CHAPTER THIRTEEN

We return to our story as something has just made a huge hole in the wall. The open sky can clearly and easily be seen on the other side... WHAT DO YOU DO NOW?!?!?

CHAPTER THIRTEEN

It didn't take long to figure out what had probably happened, particularly if your brain ran on super speed: whatever The Cogstinator had done likely sent the lot of them into this alternate dimension where 'bad' was 'good' and 'good' was 'bad,' at least in as far as superheroes and villains were concerned. Delancey and the others were probably 'bad' guys then, though she didn't know if they counted for that supposed morality flip. Given the guns pointed at them, it was safe to assume they were at least dangerous, for now. Somewhat more certain was how the "White Lynx" was probably also a sort of villain... But what did that mean for Ch'rava? And the Brin Monarchy? What would an evil version of them look like? Or would the morality flip have skipped them over?

Still, those concerns could be considered more in full later. Right now, there were guns, an unknown helper in this rabbit lady, and a hole in the wall. And Ms. Rabbit wanted them to run? As fast as they could?

The speedster could do that.

Like a bolt, Lynx flashed away, electrical sparks flying as she disappeared through the new hole.

CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Twist flashed through the crowd of agents doing her human rubberband thang, depriving them of their weapons as she serenaded them with a jaunty R&B earworm. "Hey ya'll, prepare yourself for the Rubberband Ma'am! You've never seen a gal like the Rubberband Ma'am! You're bound to lose control when the Rubberband starts to jam! Rubberband Ma'am starts to jam, moving up and down 'cross the land! Got the people all in her wake. Everything prolly seems outta place! Just move it, just move, move, move it, just Rubberband, Rubberband Ma'am! Get down, oh, get down low!"

17:19, Today: Twist rolled 8 using 2d6+2 with rolls of 1,5.  Hold Them Off (Drive Them Crazy). I pick one: 'you take away useful items from them'. That would be their firearms! ^_^

CHAPTER THIRTEEN

This was what Cosmic Girl was afraid of... they had ended up somewhere else. Well, it was getting her out of a geography test, so maybe it was for the best.

As the White Rabbit person gave instructions, and she was able to grasp what was going on with a very different and irate Agent Delancey, she did not need telling twice. Her Cosmic Aura flared around her, and she vworrppped out as fast as she could go, which was really quite fast indeed. She was not as fast as White Lynx, of course, but hardly anything was. But it was fast enough to get her at a distance from trouble.

Re: CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Cosmic Girl and White Lynx went outside. Inside were still Twist and Goodwill... but the agents were all suddenly disarmed, thanks to Twist, standing with a pile of rifles at her feet...

(Goodwill: is Scraps there? Or did we leave him back at home?)

Outside, Cosmic Girl and White Lynx observe that they're still on Plum Island. A Plum Island... And there's a big prison... But it looks different-- more steel, more round circles and less concrete and edges and corners. Got a big hole in the wall now, though.

New York and Manhattan look the same-- except the tallest skyscraper is new... It's really tall. And sinister-looking.

[Let's just leave Scraps at home for this.]

Goodwill looked at the tall, evil-looking skyscraper.

"That can't be good," he said. They clearly weren't where they'd been a minute ago. Were they in the universe that this 'Echo' person called home? "Somehow, 'run' sounds like a good idea, though."

He turned to Twist.

"Need a lift?"

Twist literally and figuratively extended her hand to Goodwill. ”I’m usually content to just get my swing on, but it’s good to see how the other half lives.” She let her arm play out some as Goodwill took flight, pausing long enough to taunt the agents with an insouciant finger-wiggle before snapping out through the gap in the wall in Goodwill’s wake. ”See ya around, boys!”

CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Not bothering to skid to a stop, Lynx continued, running at lightning speed in evasive maneuvers across the water back toward the city. It seemed that the forces of 'evil' had worked to craft a new building? It certainly looked intimidating enough, but if she were going to trust this white rabbit, she would run as far away from the island as she could. And that meant leaving it altogether. Hopefully, it wouldn't be too difficult to meet back up with the others later.

When Goodwill and Twist rejoin Cosmic Girl (well, you know, kind of below her) on a beach outside, the woman in the blue costume with the rabbit logo (insignia?) shows up too. She doesn't just appear... more like you can see her coming a'runnin', but it's hard to see her, like light is partially phasing through her body (but not entirely). It makes her a little transparent-- until she shows up again. "We should get to the city," she says. "Or at least off this island. Could I ask for a lift?"

CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Cosmic Girl bobbed down and floated above the goup, her aura shimmering purple and green, casting a very strange set of moving shadows around them all. "I'd be happy to take you myself, but I am not sure how my aura would interact with you. I do not know if the laws of cosmic energy are the same here - wherever we ended up! Besides, Gil is a lot stronger than I am!"

It was a good thing that her shimmery nimbus kept the shade of her face hidden. Using Goodwill's real name was a little slip of the tongue, perhaps. But she was still a teenager, and it was not unreasonable to presume that she had developed something of a crush. He was a few years older, strong, handsome, and a heroic figure. Plus, he had a Superdog, and nobody was immune to that sort of clincher! Whilst she was still very much able to focus on her work, she did contain all the raging hormones of a sixteen year old girl. All mixed in with the raging torrent of force that fuelled the universe. It was quite a lot to deal with.

She looked towards the city, and the unfamiliar - yet somehow also familiar - variation of the skyline. "Maybe I should scout ahead? We don't know what sort of reception we are likely to receive, and we have to assume someone is going to call ahead to get a rather angry welcome ready for us. It's a shame we don't have Scraps with us. His nose is far better than mine when it comes to spotting trouble!"

CHAPTER THIRTEEN

"I can take two passengers," Goodwill said. He noticed that Cosmic Girl had called him 'Gil' (which was fine, since his identity was public) and wondered what that signified. Probably just a slip of the tongue, he decided. He actually appreciated the note of familiarity between the two of them, though. He liked Cosmic Girl.

He liked her liked her. But there was that age difference to consider. He quietly sighed to himself and put the thought aside.

Positioning himself between Twist and Bunny-girl, Goodwill placed a hand around each one's waist. If each one rested a hand on his shoulder for stability, he'd be able to fly the three of them without trouble.

"I can show you where to go," says the woman in blue. "We have a secret lair set up. Do you know the Harlem River Lift Span of the Triborough Bridge? Whether you do or not, there's a rusty-looking door there, like a door on a submarine, that leads to a tunnel that widens as it goes... it leads under Manhattan..."

So... Did that mean there was more surveillance in the city now? And Mayors? Certainly it was rather interesting to see what might be different, but perhaps this area wasn't the safest to stay around in... The masked hare had told them all to flee, but maybe they'd still be around near the island. She could do a pass, if only to try to get back together faster—

An explosion?

Lynx's head darted over to the south where that booming sound had come from. She really should just ignore it... There was every possibility that it was some construction work demolishing something and, besides, if the Lynx in this world was meant to be a villain, her cover as a hero counted for nothing. Not to mention the fact that her group was on some important world-shattering business, so whatever this was had to be small potatoes compared to that. And it wasn't like the others would ever even know. It was only sensible...

White Lynx shook her head and took off running to the south. Sure, she wasn't technically a hero... But there was a chance someone needed help. As far as Ch'rava knew, there was no one else coming to help, and she simply could not stand by and let that happen. Screw sensible!

When she gets there, Tetsubo, the big scary guy with the iron club, is fighting the police. The explosion was a police car he smashed.

Except... wait... It's NOT the same person. This is a big scary WOMAN with red skin and horns growing out of HER forehead and glowing eyes. "Come on! You think you can stop me?! No one stops Agent Devil from making a divers-- I mean, from destroying public property!"

She's creating so much chaos, the police barely have time to aim their pistols. When she spots one trying it, she deflects the shot with her iron club, and then smashes whatever the cop had been using for cover...

So... Unless it was mere coincidence that the club-wielding Agent Devil looked very much like a female Tetsubo, it appeared that morality wasn't the only difference here? Unless she'd misunderstood something about the oni in her own universe; it was difficult at times to keep track of what was meant to separate gender in humans. Who knew, maybe that meant the large, evil-looking building was the result of some other shift between the realities.

In any case, that wasn't the important part here. Tetsubo had been, to all of Lynx's knowledge, a villain, so that would mean miss 'destruction of public property' over here would likely be more on the heroic side...

And what was that she'd said? 'Making a diver?' If she assumed that Agent Devil was trying to do something good here, she could read that as 'making a diversion,' but it seemed silly to just run with an assumption on any stranger's moral compass. Still, despite all the chaos, it didn't seem like she'd actually hurt anyone yet... But with guns waving around and explosions going off, someone needed to be concerned about safety.

Lynx scanned the area, looking for anyone else caught in the crossfire or about to get hurt, ready to rush in and get them out of harm's way.

Actually, surprisingly, no one else is in danger. It's almost as if Agent Devil is secretly trying to go out of her way to make sure that she's only serving as an inconvenience to the police department, specifically.

Lynx continued to scan the area for a moment longer, but if there was no one in danger, then she didn't exactly know what to do. Assuming Agent Devil was just making a diversion, then this wasn't really the most important thing going on here. And her working to avoid injuring anyone certainly pointed towards her actions being good. Lynx could
try
to assist in this endeavor, but interfering could make the situation worse...

But at least it could also give her a better sense of how 'White Lynx' was seen in this world.

In an instant, she flashed into the fighting, choosing a spot that seemed relatively secure for the moment while also making her entrance exceedingly obvious to both the police and the club-wielding oni, ready to dodge away again at a moment's notice. Either they'd ignore her completely (in which case, she'd might as well run back toward the island to check on the others) or she'd get some kind of informative response. Possibly in the from of a bullet or a smash from the iron club.

Cosmic Girl looked in the direction of the bridge. "I know the spot. I am worried about Lynx, though. We really mustn't get divided! And if we are seen as our opposites here, we'll have every law enforcement agency in the country after us. Even the military."

She was under no illusions about her own capacity to be a weapon of mass desctruction. She had been groomed into that sort of role, after all, ever since birth. On their own Earth, she used her powers for good - or at least for the definition of good that the government decided upon. But here, if she was her own opposite, there might be a version of her out there, blowing up buildings and planes with a degree of malevolent enjoyment that was quite terrifying. She knew how much damage she had done when she had accidentally misfired, and knocked down buildings. Applied deliberately, this opposite Cosmic Girl might be a genuine flying disaster.

Unless... unless she was working for the government here, too. And they were the ones who were wicked. That was perhaps even worse...

Agent Devil turns at the flash of white. "Ah-- Ah... uh... um... You're not the Crimson Comet... Who the heck are you?"

The police point their guns at White Lynx, but they don't fire or even shout anything-- they also seem confused.

"--Oh!" says Agent Devil, seeming to realize something. "Oh!! Um, uh... You must be another hero, here to stop anyone who wants to overthrow the Mayors' totalitarian rule of the city! But... uh... uhhhh... And... and that means I'd better take my leave, because if you're here, hero, it means one of the Mayors is sure to show up soon and start helping you deliver a beatdown of a rebel like me! So if you're on the side of totalitarian martial law keeping this city in its iron grip, as usual, you'd... you'd better not follow me...!"

And with that, Agent Devil charges south, barreling through the blockade of police cars, smashing them aside as she runs. The cops scatter momentarily, so no cars fall on them. (None do.)

At the far end of the block, Agent Devil turns to see if White Lynx will follow, kind of giving her a C'mon, dammit look.

Meanwhile, the woman in blue, Twist, Goodwill and Cosmic Girl arrive at the submarine door under the Manhattan side of the bridge...

Well that was certainly helpful, as responses went. Nice little briefing on the situation, assuming she could be trusted, and a perfect little role to play. And Ch'rava knew a thing or two about playing roles.

"Halt, you fiend! I can see through you and your words! None shall disturb the city's peace on my watch!" With another bright flash, Lynx burst off towards Agent Devil at breakneck speed, shooting off sparks of electricity from her hands... at where the oni had been a moment ago such that she was in no actual danger of getting hit. "You won't get away from me!"

Hopefully, by saying she could see through the rebel's words, she'd gotten across that the message was received. And if not? She could always apologize once they'd gotten out of the officers' earshot.

Re: CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Cosmic Girl nodded to agree with Goodwill. Racism was not really on her agenda. Her parents were highly progressive. Her mother was the first woman in space - even if it was top secret and nobody was allowed to know. That's how she got her powers. Suffice to say, if you're pregnant (even if you don't know it yet) being exposed to a burst of cosmic radiation outside the Van Allen Belt is a really good way to cook up a superhero.

So she was not given to judging people on looks, or gender.

"Professor Norwood? Oh, you better believe we know him! Our Norwood is a total lunatic. He creates all sorts of dreadful experiments. He doesn't care who he hurts. He attacked me... with a toaster!" In fact, it was several toasters. Flying killer laser toasters. If Norwood here was as skilled as the one back home, but was also sane, and working for the good of mankind, he was probably an amazing person to have on your team.

But maybe he was just as nuts, doing something equally barking mad. At this point, she would believe just about anything.

Usagi. An appropriate name.

The idea of being trapped in a reverse-world was very daunting. With her abilities, she was always equipped to survive in a bad situation, but when she was not zipping around the sky, blowing up villains and the like, she was more or less in the care of the government. Oh, yes, she had her parents of course. But their home, and every aspect of their lives, had been constructed to protect her identity. Without them... she would be totally lost. She was capable of shooting beams of energy from her eyes, and could cause a sonic boom over Brooklyn on a good day with a favourable tailwind... but she had no idea how to live in the real world.

Your host grimaces. "I'm afraid that things are the same as far as that goes. If everything were the opposite, Manhattan would be covered with trees and grass, except for where Central Park should be. The Statue of Liberty would be called something else and would be at the north end, things like that. No, I'm afraid that the biggest difference is just that people who have decided to be good and resist temptation in one world have decided to be bad and to give in to temptation in the other, and vice versa. There are other things, sometimes-- name changes, gender-differences in individuals... but the ways in which people choose to be evil are, sadly, the same-- more or less the same stereotypes, more or less the same prejudices."

She leads the way through the tunnels further, to a (familiar) door. "All right, the professor is through here. Everyone have your... calm and friendly faces ready...?"

(EDIT)

White Lynx zips to the bridge, finds the door in question, opens it and closes it behind her, and zips through the mostly-familiar (it smells better than in the other universe) corridors until she spots her friends. "Ah, welcome," says the woman with the rabbit symbol. "Ah, I was just mentioning that Professor Norwood is through this door-- and that he's very nice and meek and not-evil in this universe," she adds quickly. "In fact he's very easily alarmed, so let us all smile at him in a reassuring, calming way, if that's all right...?"

The woman nods, and opens the door.

On the other side is a laboratory-- and Norwood.

But he's not the same man you knew. He looks the same... but different. He's wearing glasses, for one thing. For another, his body posture is different-- kind of hunched over. And he's wearing a white lab coat.

When the door opens, he looks up, startled. When you all enter the room, he kind of tries to hide behind some electrical zappy-things.

"Um. So... do they know the plan, Usagi? No?"

"They do not. There has been no time until now. Would you like to explain, or shall I?"

"...You try, please."

"All right, professor." She turns to the rest of you. "As you doubtless already understand, those who stand out as heroes in our world are villains here, and vice-versa.

New York City is ruled over by the Mayoral Council: Crimson Comet, the Green Dragon, and the Black Mummy. Their powers are-- in that order-- lightning speed, fire-breathing, and invulnerability and prehensile black bandages.

All of them are versions of people that I met during my short career as a powered hero in our world of origin-- again, respectively, Silver Streak, Scorch Scale, and Pint-Sized Powerhouse."

She looks uncomfortable. "I... thought that that's who would appear where you four appeared. Have Silver Streak, Scorch Scale, and Pint-Sized Powerhouse quit, or retired? I... hope that they weren't killed in the line of duty? Do you know?"

Re: CHAPTER THIRTEEN

White Lynx:
"And I don't believe we'll have any problems with assisting you in this. What has the good doctor prepared for these Mayors?"

The plan is revealed, and discussed:

--the Crimson Comet: Usagi was expecting to get Silver Streak, but having White Lynx will work just as well. Someone else should serve as a distraction, and then White Lynx can run up and hit the Crimson Comet with a ray gun (it's got a short range, less than 10 feet). It should neutralize his powers for at least 24 hours. Usagi suggests that Twist might be good for the distraction.

--Green Dragon: This is magical stuff, so that's hard. The plan here is to use a special flashlight. Flash it right in his eyes, and it should put the dragon spirit inside in control. That'll be more dangerous power-wise, but the dragon's not as smart/clever as the villainous young man who's normally in control. The dragon spirit is easier to trick... Norwood has invented an Ice Gun that might be able to freeze Green Dragon once the dragon spirit is in control. The plan that gets worked out is for Goodwill (since Usagi's teammates Pint-Size Powerhouse and Scorch Scale aren't available) to try to flashlight the dragon, and for Usagi herself to have the freeze-gun ready.

--the Black Mummy: the idea is for Cosmic Girl to pour a jar of special liquid on the Black Mummy that should cause her to lose control of her bandages, leading to just a ball of black yarn that can be rolled into a special metal holding box to imprison her. In case there's any trouble, Agent Devil will be standing by to try to help (and to help roll the black ball and slam the lid on the box, if the plan is successful).

Lynx's eyes locked onto the doctor. "They were passed on to me from another super. Not Silver Streak." Technically true in that she did indeed obtain them from another super powered individual, alongside her appearance and name. She wasn't entirely sure how the real White Lynx had gotten hers, but it wasn't as though most heroes would be particularly forthcoming about their abilities' origins, so she should be able to get away with a lot in that regard.

Although... given that her universe's Dr. Norwood had that trident in one of his lab areas, there was a chance he knew some of the mechanics around the power transfer. If this Norwood had worked in similar areas...

No. Too risky. Ch'rava allowed her eyes to drift away from the man as she dismissed the idea. Usagi and Twist would both be coming back to their universe and neither of them knew the truth yet. If either of them were going to have a problem with an alien scout replacing one of their many heroes, her cover could very well be blown.

"But... was there a chemical catalyst, or was radioactivity..." He shrinks back from the intensity of White Lynx's gaze. "Well... from what you say... it certainly shouldn't shut off your powers as it should for the Crimson Comet. But without more information, I can't guarantee what would happen. So... "That seems fine. Good, even," says Usagi. "It's fine if Green Dragon pays attention to you-- we want him to look at you, long enough to shine the flashlight in his eyes. It's me he shouldn't see-- until it's too late."

Re: CHAPTER THIRTEEN

"That does sound a better plan to me," Cosmic Girl reflected. "I tend to glow a lot as  well." She held her hand up, and it was engulfed by her cosmic aura. "Great for pleasing the crowd, but terrible for stealth."

She then considered options. "Since have some time to kill, a little rest, some food, and some television might be a good idea. We need to know a bit more about this universe, and watching some current affairs and news might be good research." And if she caught a few cartoons as well, she would not be at all unhappy. Provided they were not awful.

The news right now is full of how Agent Devil tore up a block of the city and smashed up some (empty) police cars, along with a mysterious hero in white with powers similar to the Crimson Comet.

Local politics are also very careful to praise the authority of The Mayors and to criticize Washington D.C. as not being as good as running the country as The Mayors run the NYC area.

There's also a clown, Knickerbocker the Clown, who hosts a cartoon show for kids. The cartoons are slightly odd-- they're most like the old Fleischer-Brothers cartoons from the '30s, with songs and animals singing and very elaborate moving backgrounds. But some of them are pulpy, Flash-Gordon-Buck-Rogers stuff. It seems to be the hot new thing, at least in kids' entertainment: retro-pulp, pulp-futurism.

Many of both kinds of cartoons are sort of surreal, dream-like, almost psychedelic.

Re: CHAPTER THIRTEEN

The plan mostly figured out at this point, Lynx pealed off. Cosmos was very right in that they needed to know more about what all was going on. At first, she'd gone for some of the newspapers around the area; after all, that was the news source she'd grown most comfortable with on Earth. But once she'd heard on their televised source about the 'mysterious hero in white,' well... She couldn't help but be curious about what all the news sources had managed to figure out from her brief 'debut.'

Cosmos watched the shows with a growing sense of bafflement. This was not what she expected. These were not the Saturday Morning Cartoons she loved, nor were they the current affairs shows that her parents insisted she had to watch, to better understand why she had to protect America and the American Way Of Life.

She did not like them. Oh, the pulp was all right in its own way, she supposed, but that sort of thing had gone out in the Forties back in the home universe. She was also a little disappointed that they did not have the music shows she liked. A musical revolution was going on back home. It seemed that this place did not have the same sort of values - and it did not produce the same sort of music.

Oh boy, that Ricky Nelson... sigh... this place did not know what it was missing!

White Lynx can't find any non-NYC newspapers. All the ones she can find are just sucking up to the Mayors. Seems that non-NYC newspapers aren't allowed in Manhattan.

She also notes that there are heavily-armed checkpoints at all roads leading out of the city, and lots of very armed guards at the airports, train stations, and docks. This island is run like a prison or something.

The news is all wondering whose side this new white-suited speedster is on... has the Crimson Comet started an intern program or something?

Cosmic Girl snaps the television set off in disdain as a new show starts, "Space Patrol." It's just more rockets-and-bug-eyed-monsters-and-jetpacks stuff, but less than animation, it seems to involve just drawings of people with human mouths and jaws added on through camera trickery so that they seem to talk. Bizarre.

Re: CHAPTER THIRTEEN

--Goodwill and Usagi head to Times Square to draw out Green Dragon:

Everyone else, seeing Ultima-Usagi and a non-sanctioned hero show up, has already fled Times Square...

"I told the others I wanted to deal with you myself, Usagi--" She and Goodwill turn, and there's Green Dragon, a guy in a costume like Scorch Scale, but all green. "Believe me, Black Mummy wanted a shot, but I won a coin flip."

He's a good 40 feet away from both heroes so far...

--White Lynx and Twist head to City Hall (now located at a 50-story skyscraper on the Upper West Side) to draw out The Crimson Comet.

At the main entrance to the skyscraper, White Lynx and Twist--

--WHOA! White Lynx's reflexes kick in-- there's a red streak running right at Twist!

What should White Lynx do?

--Attack Crimson Comet?
--Move Twist?
--Just try to warn Twist, since she's kinda made of rubber and who knows if Crimson Comet can actually hurt her exactly? (Also: am I correct that Twist is currently holding Professor Norwood's special flashlight?)

--Cosmic Girl heads to Central Park to meet Agent Devil there to catch The Black Mummy...

In the (so-called) Sheep Meadow of Central Park, Cosmic Girl finds Agent Devil... No sign of the Black Mummy so far...

"A cop saw me and called me in almost 10 minutes ago, so it shouldn't be much longer..." Agent Devil says when she sees Cosmic Girl. "So what's yer name, girly?"

She could jump in to get Twist out of the way or warn her... But Lynx had a better idea. Like a flash, she stepped in, shooting out sparks that lit up the night and, more importantly, spread out and aimed just right to block Crimson Comet's path and, hopefully, box the 'hero' in.

"C'mon, Crimsy. Pick on a gal your own speed."

And maybe she could taunt him a little bit too.

White Lynx rolled 13 using 2d6+2 with rolls of 5,6.  Slow down a tick, why don't you? Hold Them Off, Confident -1 Forward.

Hold them off
When you slow down or get in the way of enemies, roll +Forceful.  On a 10+ pick 2, on a 7-9 pick 1.  Their retaliation will always be limited (-1 Stun) but you don’t stun them.
--They can’t act as effectively (-1 Stun ongoing until your actions are countered)
--Give them a choice between backing off or be stunned

(Admittedly, what I wanna do is box him in enough that I can keep the fight and Crimson Comet within a given area to make it easier for Twist to hit him with the flashlight [or for me to do that if I have it]. If that wouldn't be covered by "Give them a choice between backing off or be stunned", then I'll go with "You draw them away from people you choose" instead, with the people I choose being Twist.)

"Cute," says Green Dragon-- and he breathes fire.

But he's too far away-- I mean come on, Goodwill can fly (and Usagi can phase). Even with his ability to cover a whole area//multiple targets in flames, the heroes are too mobile for this to work.

So much for surrender without violence, then...

Then Usagi makes her move--

She becomes transparent-- phased out of being solid. But the light has temporarily-blinded her for the moment-- she's staggering around-- not crying out in pain, but blinking and rubbing her eyes. She's headed over to the corner of the building-- probably because there's a limit on how long she can stay intangible... but how will she know she's not going to re-solidify in a wall, if she can't see...?

Usagi holds up the freeze-ray. She tries to speak only just loud enough to be heard. "I can tell where you're hovering, but that's about all. You're a gray smudge in the sky. Things are slowly getting clearer, but you'd better finish this for now. Hurry, please..."

Re: CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Goodwill takes the freeze ray (which I thought was supposed to be the flashlight, but whatevs) and whips around. He doesn't give any more prompts to surrender; he just fires.

What do I roll for this?

Goodwill turns and fires--

--and misses, because Green Dragon has moved-- he's jumped up right in front of Goodwill, and he snatches the ray-gun from his hand.

Then he lands only slightly awkwardly on the ground-- and he fires it. At Goodwill.

WOW that's c-c-c-c-c-c-colllldddddd....

(Goodwill takes, mmm, just 1 stress, because it's bad enough he's lost the dragon-chilling gun for the moment...)

Re: CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Cosmic Girl found little difficulty on her way to the Park to meet the contact there. After all, there were very few things around that were likely to be flying abouyt trying to get in her way, and those that tried would get a nasty blast of eye rays for their trouble. No, that part of the mission went off without a hitch. Since she had manifested her aura, even the occasional stray bug got zapped before it flew down her throat or into her eye. It was even a nice relaxing way to see the city from above. There were some very obvious differences to her own world, but it was similar enough that she would have had no trouble navigating on foot, even if some of the architecture was very strange to her eyes.

She landed by Agent Devil and held out her hand. "They call me Cosmic Girl. On account of my being a girl. And also cosmic. It's very much a functional and accurate description. I'm ready to deal with this, as and when he shows her ugly face. Seems simple enough in theory. Pour the gunge on the Mummy, stuff them into a box. Even I can't forget that plan!"

Not that she forgot many plans. But she did tend to go off book when startled. There were a fair number of exploded buildings back in her own universe that could attest to that fact.

Re: CHAPTER THIRTEEN

That was bad. The weapon they were expecting to save them from this fight was now in the hands of the enemy. Now it was a fight. Goodwill gritted his teeth, mostly from determination, but partly because he was really freaking cold, and dove at the Green Dragon in a sudden flurry of fists.

Agent Devil shakes hands... "Well I hope you're ready to deal with the Black Mummy. The thing you have to understand about her is-- Oops too late--"

Cosmic Girl turns to look where Agent Devil is looking...

Sure enough, a black-bandage-wrapped figure has come into view... she's small, though! Is the Black Mummy a CHILD? The form under there looks like she's maybe 9 years old...

Black Mummy wastes no time, but starts running at Cosmic Girl and Agent Devil... she's a little faster than you'd think a child would be...

POWWWWWW. And, he's down... but not quite out yet... He's trying to get back up...

However, he also drops the freeze-gun... and it breaks into about five pieces.

...Y'know what? Fine. FINE. It was just supposed to help, but it turned into kind of a liability. Goodwill is in the mood to beat this guy down anyway, freeze-ray or no freeze-ray... Honestly, the guy feels like he doesn't have a lot more fight left in him...

Re: CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Goodwill wanted to punch the Green Dragon unconscious, but he couldn't bring himself to do it just yet. That wasn't his way.

"Give. Up." He cocked his fist, prepared to throw that last punch, the instant it was made necessary by the Dragon doing anything other than conceding defeat.

Goodwill rolled 5 using 2d6+1 ((1,3)).

Honestly, the guy is out. His eyes are open, but there's hardly any sign of him being conscious, as such, in there.

There's a dragon in there, though. It doesn't have enough control over the body to express its anger in words right now, but it manages to express irritation, at least, through the medium of breathing fire.

"Oh, for the love of Pete," Goodwill grumbled. The body was unconscious, but the dragon inside would still breathe fire at him until Goodwill took him out, too. No longer having the freeze ray, though, all he could do was punch the guy again.

Re: CHAPTER THIRTEEN

It was perhaps fortunate that Cosmic Girl herself was little more than a child, being a teenager. She actually had no particular compunction about kicking the ass of a little brat, if they deserved it. And Black Mummy presumably did, or whatever was she doing here in the first place?

But she was not there to get into a slugging match. So she zipped upwards into the sky, aura flaring. She held the gunge container in her hands, and strafed the area around Black Mummy with her eye beams. She was not aiming to hit. She was actually trying to corral the nasty looking thing. If she could force it to a spot of her choosing, it would be easier to speed dive and gunge it.

OOC:

HOLD THEM OFF

20:19, Today: Cosmic Girl rolled 9 using 2d6+2 with rolls of 1,6.  Forceful: Hold Them Off.

Result: they cannot attack anybody they were not already attacking.

THAT did it. The body is officially out. Dude is out, dragon can no longer act, if there's anyone else in there, they're not doing jack either this evening.

"I'll contact the professor and a couple of our other operatives," says Usagi. "We've got some ideas about how to restrain his arms and legs, and how to keep him from using the fire breath. The good part for now is that they've made the city their toy so thoroughly, the police won't interfere. Watch out for Delancey's agents, though."

(I'm going to say that while you're really irritating Black Mummy, you are also backing her toward a spot of your choosing. Describe this, please...

Remember, you've got that jar of oil or slime or whatever it is that you're supposed to try to use... (or is Agent Devil still holding it for you for the moment? I could see it either way at this point))
