Maric's furious now: Attack 15, Damage 12

Maric is thinking unkind thoughts at this point - his bite is true, though he's not sure if it broke the skin or not. Fortunately he's recently had his tetanus shot...:p

"Mother Fu....!" Betty gasps, the rest of the statement lost as a wracking cough shakes her body, desperate to get air into her deflated lungs through her likely heavily damaged ribs. The rage-fueled resistance to damage her frail body usually provides was completely ignored by the accursed mage's attack, making her, of course, even more angry...

She is reduced to guttural growls as her lungs recover, and she slashes out at the mage once more.

Redbrand Hideout

Maric's fangs flashed toward the wizard again, but once again they met only the white shield of magic that the mage summoned up between them. (Miss)

Beatrice in her fury, ribs aching, plunged her rapier straight through that magical barrier once more and it sank into the wizard's chest. She felt it slide between bones and blood coughed out of the wizard's mouth to reveal he was deeply wounded. (max damage, 12, to Glasstaff)

Morgan and Talin finally catch up to the others, lungs heaving, finding themselves close enough to actually join in at long last.

They were not alone in that, however, as Three Redbrands come rushing in from the west, also apparently drawn to the sounds of combat. Seeing their apparent leader involved with two already, and two more closing in, they rush toward the wizard to bolster his defenses.

Glasstaff's eyes were wild after taking the damage that he had, and though he seemed relieved to hear the approach of the Redbrands, the concern outweighed the relief. He reached toward the Redbrands and his form seemed to stretch upward and bend toward them for a single moment before he broke apart into millions of particles of mist that flew through the air to land and resolidify behind them. "Redbrands, stand firm!" He barked the order, pulled a flask from the satchel at his side, and downed the contents as he wiped the blood from his lip. He seemed a bit more invigorated from the potion, but the expression on his face was still serious concern.

Redbrand Hideout

Maric, frustrated at the wizard's defenses, goes for a nearby redbrand instead. He got a mouth full of armor for his efforts, doing little more than annoy the man. (Miss)

Beatrice once again finds her aim to be far more precise than canine. She stabs at the man with murderous rage, and nearly accomplishes just that as blood gushes from the man's wound at the base of his neck. (12 damage to R1)

Morgan cautiously moves forward, eager to engage but warry of the mercenaries.

Talin, nearly exhausted from all the running, came to a halt and leveled a hand toward the enemies. A blast of energy flew forward, but the heavy breathing made his aim off just enough that it slammed instead into a tree. (miss)

Redbrand 1 retaliated against Beatrice, standing firm solely because his leader stood nearby. The strike was true as the man put nearly all he had behind the attack. Beatrice took that pain to fuel her rage even further, but deep in her thoughts she realized that blow could have been her last. (8 damage, reduced to 4 because of Rage)
22:32, Today: Psynister rolled 18,8 using d20+4,d6+2.  Redbrand attack.

Redbrand 2 moved up to engage as well, aiming for Maric. His strike sank into the fur, but little else. (miss)
22:34, Today: Psynister rolled 10,8 using d20+4,d6+2.  Redbrand attack.

Redbrand 3 clearly wanted to close in with someone. The wolf seemed to scare him a bit, making Morgan the more ideal target. Glasstaff had told them to stand firm, however, so instead he drew a dagger from his belt and threw it at Morgan instead. The dagger met only shield, and was easily deflected.
22:36, Today: Psynister rolled 6,3 using d20+4,d4+2.  Redbrand attack.

Glasstaff repeated the same gesture he'd done before, holding a fist toward Beatrice. The three magical bolts flew from his hand, slamming firmly into Beatrice's chest. The halfling fell back, lying on Maric's back for a second before sliding off and tumbling to the ground. (10 Force damage to Beatrice, making her Unconscious)
22:38, Today: Psynister, for the NPC Glasstaff, rolled 4,3,3 using d4+1,d4+1,d4+1.  Magic Missile.

Redbrand Hideout

Hers is a world of stars and pain and a whiteness tinged in red. Visions of her life swim in and out of focus as she falls, ever slowly, to the ground. Much of it is a blur - some happiness, some sadness. Anger. There was a lot of anger. And then, exile.... Still, she found as she fell towards the ground, that she regretted little of what led her to this place. The people were kind, it seemed, if annoying.

The memory of Maric - as boy-Maric, not wolf-Maric, tall and wild and annoying and handsome; annoyingly handsome - filled her vision as the white and red faded to black...

She hit the ground, hard, and gasped at the impact. Somehow, the air rushed into her lungs instead of out, her eyes flew open as a spray of blood spewed forth from her mouth, but she LIVED!

She LIVED!

And she was PISSED.

Slowly, she gathered herself to her feet, head reeling and world spinning. She didn't have much left, but she wasn't about to go down without a fight. The redness had been washed away by the blackness, along with the white, but she felt it returning, swiftly, like a fire consuming tinder. She smiled, crazily, at the mage - "I'm going to EAT you." her eyes flashed as she spit another gobbet of blood from her mouth, and wiped a smear across her lips and porcelain doll-like face. But first, there was another target between her and her goal. She lashed out recklessly and the Redbrand, but didn't put any conviction behind it, focused as she was on staring down the mage. Her attack served as little more than a distraction to the thug...

Maric's teeth finally find purchase, this time on the face of the Redbrand in front of him. The teeth locking in fairly well with the contours of the man's skull. He gives a shake of his head, hearing more bones than just the skull snap before the body goes limp. Maric lets the corpse fall as he growls at the others nearby. (R1 is dead)

Beatrice's eyes flutter back open as coughing up blood overcame her. It was like the impact of hittin gthe ground itself had shocked her back to consciousness. She gathered herself, and her weapon, as she stood to her feet. She lashed out with the rapier once more, but there was still weakness in her body from the shock of the previous blows. (miss)

Morgan moved forward and unleashed a burst of aggressive strikes that double the man over in pain. (R3 takes 17 damage)

Talin takes advantage of that opportunity to blast the man right at the base of his neck, sending him tumbling over before lying still. (R3 is dead)

Redbrand 1 is dead.

Redbrand 2 discounted Beatrice for the moment, and focused on the large wolf who just ate his companion's face. Whether it was nerves, fear, or something more, his aim faltered and he could not harm his target. (miss)
20:40, Today: Psynister rolled 10,7 using d20+4,d6+2.  Redbrand attack.

Redbrand 3 is dead.

Glasstaff was clearly upset by the fall of his hopeful defenders, "No! Dammit!" It seemed he had not noticed Beatrice, or perhaps he now considered Maric a higher priority. Whatever it was, he send the magical bolts once more, but now all aimed at Maric. (11 Force damage to Maric) He then moved to the south, abandoning the men.

Maric rushed the mage once more, leaving the mercenaries behind for the time being. Beatrice and Morgan also reached the wizard and the three attacked in unison. Beatrice struck from above while Maric's teeth assailed from the right, and Morgan come in low from the left. The strikes all landed at once. If the wizard had more defensive spells at the ready, he was too slow to react to so many strikes at once. Blades bit into flesh and teeth bit even deeper. With a quick intake of breath and a jerk of muscles, blood bubbled out of the man's mouth before he went limp and crumpled to the ground. (32 more damage makes a wizard go pop!)

Talin aimed for the one target he had a clear line of sight on, the remaining Redbrand. The man had turned to strike at Maric as he went after Glasstaff. He turned back to face Talin just as the blast of eldritch energy flew from the warlock's hand and slammed right into the mercenarie's face. The head rocked backward and halfway back upright again before he too fell over unconscious. (R2 is dead)

The wizard falls, Betty lets out a primal scream of fury and triumph. It is frightening, especially coming from so small a girl. Her rage was as big as the world.

The red haze begins to be replaced by blackness. She stumbles, staggering, at first, then propping herself up with her blade. Then, that falters, her eyes grow dim and lifeless and she collapses, skirt hiking in a most unladylike manner to reveal a cream colored strip of thigh above her stockings. She is bloody and bruised, her delicate clothes rent asunder in a dozen different places.

Maric rushes to her side and lays his healing hands upon her. She starts, eyes swimming into focus in a flash as the stranger dares to touch her. There is fire and a clear lack of recognition, until the healing magic begins to work, clearing her clouded mind.

"Oh. Maric." she says, feebly, but visibly relaxing beneath his touch. A peace comes over her doll-like face as her eyes flutter closed again. She reaches up and touches his shoulder, softly. "Good boy." she manages.

Redbrand Hideout

As Betty stood up, Maric said, "Nice legs." Resting his spear upon his shoulder, he added, "Are you gonna stand there looking pretty, or you gonna help divide the spoils?"

Redbrand Hideout

Betty harrumphed at his comment as she stood, feebly, and smoothed down her skirts. "I hope you enjoyed the view, I suppose."

Wait. Pretty? A flush rises in Betty's face as Maric's compliment registers, and she's stuck, unable to move, for the briefest of moments. Pretty? Pretty?!

Pretty!

A smile appears, through the scowl, and she fails to hide it. "Idiot. It's not like they're going to have anything useful."
