To Phandalin and Beyond

Quests:
1. Deliver wagon goods to Barthen's Provisions. 50g reward
2. Return stolen goods to Lion's Shield Coster. Unknown reward
3. Escort Sildar to Phandalin. 50g reward

The rutted track emerges from a wooded hillside, and you catch your first glimpse of Phandalin. The town consists of forty or fifty simple log buildings, some built on old fieldstone foundations. More old ruins-crumbling stone walls covered in ivy and briars-surround the newer houses and shops, showing how this must have been a much larger town in centuries past. Most of the newer buildings are set on the sides of the cart track, which widens into a muddy main street of sorts as it climbs toward a ruined manor house on a hillside at the east side of town.

As you approach, you see children playing on the town green and townsfolk tending to chores or running errands at shops. Many people look up as you approach, but all return to their
business as you go by.

Sildar smiles and looks to the group. "We have returned to civilization. Phandalin doesn't have much to offer compared to the big cities, but it's welcoming enough. I'm told the Stonehill Inn is the best in town; quaint, but good food, good ale, and decent beds."

What luck! We are in need of all three. After we deliver the wagon goods to Barthen's Provisions and return the stolen goods to Lion's Coster, we'll dine at Stonehill inn. What will you do Sildar?

OOC Stonehill inn is probably a good place to ask around about Echo Caves and Cragmaw Castle

I’m glad we finally arrived Sildar, I’ll stay with you and the wagon until it’s unloaded and then I’ll head over to the Stonehill tavern, I need a drink and good sleep!

I'm with Talin. I'm eager for a warm bath and some entertainment at this reputable inn. I'm sure there will be a few patrons interested in hearing about our heroic tale. I'll switch the names of course, no need to draw attention to ourselves after all.

In the center of town stands a large, newly built roadhouse of fieldstone and rough-hewn timbers. The common room is filled with locals nursing mugs of ale or cider, all of them eyeing you with curiosity. The proprietor is a short, friendly young human male who also eyes you with curiosity but after a a quick glace over the party his smile returns and he greets you openly.

"Welcome! Welcome to Stonehill Inn. I am Toblin Stonehill, very happy to serve you. Are you here for a bite to eat? Drinks? Comfortable accommodations?" He informs you that there are six rooms available for those who are interested.

Sildar steps forward and takes one of the rooms for himself, then Toblin looks to the rest of you.

Teranthvar feels quite soiled.

I need a hot bath and a hearty meal. I'll take a room sir and a dish on your recommendation to eat. Thanks.

Teranthvar begins humming to himself getting into a mood of frivolity. He checks to make sure he's got all his gear, takes a deep delightful breath of smells coming from the kitchen, and waits to be taken to his quarters.

Following quietly behind Dakath pays little mind to the conversation till an inn is mentioned.

"Seems a good place for day or two rest and as you have said maybe a lead or two."

"Rooms are normally one gold piece per night, with food prices separate." He gives a list of food options and prices, as below:

quote:
Buckwheat Porridge, Mug of Ale (3 cp)
Stewed Sausage and Watercress, Tankard of Stout (9 cp)
Boiled Beetroot, Mug of Perry (5 cp)
Boiled Eggs and Beetroot, Tankard of Bitter (10 cp)
Boiled Lamb and Dried Cabbage, Tankard of Ale (12 cp)
Pottage, Mug of Beer (4 cp)

"As for recommendations, that depends on what you prefer. If you want flavor, I'd go for the sausage. If you've been without food for quite some time, the pottage will stick to your ribs nicely. The lamb is filling too, but some folks find the aftertaste of lamb to be a bit unpleasant, so keep that in mind if you've not had it before."

Toblin, great to walk into your fine establishment and meet you. I'm Xander, this is Teranthva, Talin and Dakath. We are tasked with escorting goods to your fair village and rooting out goblins and banditry. We are looking for Echo Caves and Cragmaw Castle. Do you know of anyplace around here by these names?

Afterwards Xander will try and buy his room and board with a song. He'll play the pan flute and conjure a marienite fairy no larger than Xander's palm with prestidigitation. The melody is like a honey sunrise, the puppet dances.

By Popular Demand
You can always find a place to perform, usually in an inn or tavern but possibly with a circus, at a theater, or even in a noble’s court. At such a place, you receive free lodging and food of a modest or comfortable standard, as long as you perform each night. In addition, your performance makes you something of a local figure. When strangers recognize you in a town where you have performed, they typically take a liking to you.

In reply to z Toblin Stonehill (msg # 8):

Teranthvar mulls it over.

Yeah, the porridge and ale sound filling. I'll take it!

After being taken to his quarters Teranthvar has a nice hot bath and returns to eat his meal. While enjoying the performance he starts writing down an account of the adventure, more focused on dramatic story telling rather than accuracy.

He thinks then porridge is quite good and he is satisfied. He also is a light weight with alcohol and feels a little tipsy after one ale.

Thinking the party is done for the night, he orders a second ale.

Toblin shakes his head in answer to the two locations he was asked about, "Can't say that I've heard of either of those, I'm afraid."  He seems a bit more excited about the entertainment, and asks for a quick demonstration to verify you are skilled, then agrees to trade the room and meal for your performance.

"Pip, Trilena, let's get some of those windows open and see if we can draw a few more ears. Hopefully some of those ears will be tied to dry throats or empty stomachs." A young boy and a woman, who each share similar facial features, set to opening windows. The boy says something you can't quite hear, but you catch the word 'dad' and seems to be directed toward Toblin, indicating this was likely his wife and son.

A female barmaid named Elsa delivers Teranthvar's drink, "You've the look of adventurers about you. We have a retired adventurer living in town, old Daran Edermath. Enjoy!" She smiles and then returns to her station.

With his question answer, disappointingly so, Xander proceeds to start up his performance. He did quite well with it, and had both the patrons and the staff moving or singing along.
