Ehryk:
Sort of like a Master-Blasterless Thunderdome? A wretched hive of scum and villany?
I'm more familiar with the latter, but yes. As written, it's more like sneaking around the Death Star: anyone who finds you will probably want to kill you, so you have to be invisible or it all goes to hell. But I want it more like sneaking around Mos Eisley: there are those who will kill you if they find you, but mostly it's enough to keep a low profile and rely on people prudently minding their own business. Being able to hide and move is still important, but it's not necessarily foolish to try to interact with people - just with some people.

And stay away from any Gungans!

Yeah, like I said, I'm fine with the scenario as-written, but this will make it much more rich I think. An abandoned city that attracts the scruff and survives by the symbiosis of "questions have consequences" mentality. A place where smugglers shoot first...

Does anyone have any opposition to me going paladin/Warlock instead of Blackguard/Warlock?  I've realized that I get better feat synergy if I have Divine Challenge+Warlock curse than from Blackguard vices.

No complaints here.  Blackguard always felt too edgelord for me anyway.

Re: Out of Character Discussion
In reply to Khurst (msg # 508):

That's fine. 4th Edition paladins as written can effectively be blackguards, since there are no real behavior or alignment restrictions. They don't even have to worship a deity.

So, two questions:
What is Khurst's nature as a paladin? Does he worship a deity, or a concept, or what? There's no need to research Eberron deities and in fact I'd rather you didn't. If you know about them that's great, but be advised that what's established in this game takes precedence over anything that resides in a book. The two might often be the same, but when they're not the same what we've established here takes precedence.

What is Khurst's nature as a warlock? With what did he make his pact? Is he happy with his decision, or tortured by it, or what? Is it hard or easy for him to reconcile it with his paladin nature?

Actually prefer it, honestly. Roleplaying with blackguards is dicey business.

Re: Out of Character Discussion
In reply to Dungeon Engine (msg # 510):

That works better for me, honestly.

I see Khurst as a follower of pragmatic tradition rather than a true faithful.  There's a lot of lore for the Crimson Legion turning against the great demon who transformed them into tieflings, and for tiefling (infernal) warlocks embracing the offers of other demons to get out from under their master's sway.  The Strife domain is what would be his primary sphere of influence.  Key teachings of his faith would be:
  • Sow discord among your enemies and test the loyalties of your allies.  Both can be equally fickle.
  • Use one problem to solve another.  A king is most oft usurped when his councilmen have no other projects to consume their schedule.
  • Let nothing stifle your ambitions.  Dreams are destinies that someone was unwilling to pay the cost of.

Beyond that, I don't really know much about the specific setting.  If you want to challenge his devotion, I feel he'd be willing to serve any god or gods that aren't strictly gods of Judgement, Justice or Law.  Then you can put him at odds between the commands of his order or the whispered demands of his pact giver.

How about being a follower of the Traveler?

http://eberron.wikia.com/wiki/The_Traveler

I was tossing around some ideas to make my fellow the son of an order of Changelings that were actual clerics of the Traveler and who had formed a loose society kind've like what you described. Maybe we met through that and became traveling companions.

I'm still here. My work goes on vacation at the end of the year and I've been a bit focused on that.

Assuming everyone is still on board. We probably won't get seriously started until after the new year. Is that okay?

Folks, with apologies, I'll be backing out of the game. This means you'll be losing a melee striker, if that affects anyone's planning for characters. Wishing you the best.

Aaww, sorry to see you go Tumanako.

I'm here to learn the 4e system, so whatever moves us forward, I'm happy to continue. The original premise of this game is fine with me, but I'm up for whatever.

Re: Out of Character Discussion
Okay, thanks for the feedback.

Yes, let's continue with this adventure, with the modification of the town into more of a hive of scum and villainy.

We'll say that Moya left to deal with her family issues and Tumanako went with her, leaving Ehryk and Prester to decide whether or not to carry on with the original mission.

While they played a part in some recent disruptions, no one in the town is organized enough for a manhunt, and there are other things to worry about for now. A shifter and a human (especially one with an aberrant dragonmark, if that's showing) don't necessarily come across as anything other than two more ne'er-do-wells, though neither race is heavily represented here.

Let's decide how Bucky and Khurst meet up with Ehryk and Prester. We can play it out too, but I'd like to have a baseline reason for everyone to be able to work with everyone else.

If desired, I can just state something and go from there, but otherwise I'd like to hear your input. I'll go with the first thing that is strongly stated or has agreement from another person and we can modify from there.

As for what the town is like (now that it's not just a monster enclave in which you have to stay hidden at all times) I'd also dig collaborating on that, but I'm also willing just to decide things.

Re: Out of Character Discussion
I was laid out with a nasty virus for the past couple of days, but I'm back now.

I'm happy to spur things along, if you'd like. I like to give players the opportunity to direct things rather than have me railroad them, but I know that's not always something people are comfortable with.

We've lost a lot of momentum, though, and it might simply be time to shut this down. I would probably run another game relatively soon, though my work will be getting very busy inside the next six months.

I thank you for your efforts DM, and to everyone. I enjoyed learning some of 4e. I liked what I saw, and I'd like to play again sometime. Keep me in mind if any of you need a reliable player (locojedi). Thanks again, and see y'all around the rpol tables!

I'm also getting IRL swamped, I've got family and in-laws in the hospital and haven't been able to keep up.  I really appreciate the opportunity, but I don't think I'll be able to continue.
