Re: OOC thread. #2

If two or three months have passed, one thing Kevin will have been doing is delving as much as he's able into the occult/supernatural.  He still sees Belial/D'Spayre as the worst threat to the team and he very much wants to find a counter to that threat.

Bloodrager and the rest of the team would probably become fairly familiar with Kevin's Darkforce powers and know that he can use them to fly via wings, shoot blasts of energy, teleport, create a field of Darkness, create a skin-tight force field around himself, create simple, non-moving, non-curved objects made of Darkforce and see in the dark.

In terms of skills and knowledge, Bloodrager would likely classify Kevin as a Rogue/Thief.

What Kevin won't share a lot of (unless it's somehow pertinent) is his past.  Comments he's made indicate that he's done work for a shadowy influential man named Devereaux (no known relation to Deedee) and that his first disastrous run-in with Belial occurred in Miami.

Re: OOC thread. #2

In terms of switching characters, I've found it's better to run to something instead of away from something.  There's a person I knew from paper/pencil/dice RPGs.  Great GM.  Excellent storyteller.  Fair rules arbiter.  Great at characterization.  But our group came to dread those times when someone else was the GM and he was a player.

Because he just could not seem to light on a permanent character.  Two, three maybe even one session after bringing in a character, he'd switch it out for something else.  So, our party ended up as Kevin the Rogue, Steve the Mage, Bob the Cleric and Placeholder X.

The next time your friends run a game instead of the usual GM, build the revolving characters issue into the premise.  Kevin, Steve, and Bob are given a contract from a mercenary company to train up their new recruits... one at a time :)

In reply to Mortis (msg # 139):

It's all kind of moot now.  He moved about 1000 miles away a couple years ago and the group broke up.  One reason I'm on RPoL is that I no longer have a live group to game with.  Also, I have full-time job which screws with my schedule.

Re: OOC thread. #2

Ok as a side task, Since we're starting to clear up some things If there are Side quests / training your character are attempting to do, Study, Discuss, any bonds you think character should have then we can take care of that in PM's

Just let me know. Kevin yes i did make a note about the Magic aspect for Kevin,

I am trying to stay on top but currently failing.
Work has been booming and starting now to work on a project on expanding our warehouse we have had VP's come over to discuss options and what not. this is the busiest I have been here and it isn't quite slowing down.
I am not giving up on the game, But my time is lacking and I hate that some side development for the characters is suffering.
Thank you for your patience and sticking around.

I promise to keep trying to have you guy's entertained.

I'm sure that Bloodrager would be game to try (emphasis on try) to help Kevin with working on learning magic, but given how odd his own is plus his illiteracy I don't know much use he would be for the project.

In reply to Bloodrager (msg # 142):

That might be interesting.  I will say that Kevin is probably unsuited to work Bloodrager's type of magic.  He's probably just too self-centered to channel clerical magic.  And I don't mean that he's selfish, exactly, though he can be.  It's just that Kevin tends to rely on his own strengths and skills.  The idea of appealing to some god/force/power/etc to do something for him would be alien to Kevin.

During downtime, Alison will try to see what else she can get Kevin to believe, always approaching him with a totally straight face:

~ "Hey.  The socks they issue us here -  I can't wear them.   I can only wear green socks.  My religion mandates that."

~ "The magical pantyhose that gives me superspeed has been shredded!   I don't have any more powers!"

~ "I flew so fast, I ended up in Asgard.  I met Odin.  And, he wants me to lead this team - so you'll have to step down!"

Just kidding!!    I know, when you type something out, it lacks voice tone, facial expression, etc.     Sometimes intent or meaning isn't so obvious.  ^_^

"Oh, that's too bad," Kevin said, teleporting away and then returning with a plunger.  "I guess that makes you team housekeeper then.  BTW, Darwin tried to use the toilet while she was an elephant again.  It's pretty clogged.  Go get it."

Opinions time: Could someone who feels nothing no joy no sorrow no anger no fear no despair no pain no pleasure go insane? Keeping in mind they have live their whole life this way so they have no frame of reference . It's not like it was stripped from them and they realized what they lost.

In reply to Taskmistress (msg # 155):

I'd say that they already are insane at that point.  For one thing consider that since they can't feel those emotions/sensations then they also can't really have empathy for those who do.  They lack a basic shared experience with the rest of humanity.

On another message board somebody posted this gem:

quote:
The new mother was in bed for 12 hours during labor, how much more rest does she need?

Roll that around in your skull for a bit and ponder the utter lack of consideration within it.  The person you describe, Taskmistress, is this to the power of a 1000.  He's probably either a psychopath, severely autistic or both.

Re: OOC thread. #2

We often stereotypically think of psychopaths as raging, scheming destroyers or killers, as so often depicted in movies.

But, as I understand (and I'm no psych major, though I play one here) the crux of it is being amoral and unable - I mean like completely - to empathize with others.

They aren't quite unfeeling -  they still feel things such as anger, resentment, envy and jealousy.    That's why some of them are dangerous.

Anyway, a severe emotional cutoff doesn't = stability, whatever it's cause.    It's a detachment or mask for other underlying issues.      So, it is entirely possible for someone like that to 'go insane.'      Which probably means something has overwhelmed them, or punched through their defenses, to trigger what lays beneath.

Someone like that needs professional help, of some kind.     Psychopaths and similar are often intelligent, talented, or even gifted people, in some way.    Like anyone, they deserve a chance to be helped, not labeled or reviled.   But, you do have to be careful in dealings with them.

In reply to William Naslund (msg # 157):

His Rmail told me he's taking a break for a bit.  Figure plot-wise we can leave him at the base and if he comes back he can just take the second Quinjet to join the rest of us (even if he can't fly it, figure Jocasta can autopilot it for him).

On a semi-related topic, I really love Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider Man.  I can imagine Kevin telling him, "You know, there's an increasingly good chance that I'm gonna pat you on the head in a condescending manner."
