[Act IV, Scene II] The Guardhouse

As the party moves along the trail, Gorn rides up. "There's a pretty disturbing incident ahead on the road. There's a merchant cart turned on its side. One of the wheels was still spinning when we came upon the scene so it's fairly recent. The horse that was pulling the cart is gone and there's a large stain of blood and remains of a horse bit and bridle laying there. There are massive bloody footprints in the road." he explains, then, "It might be wise to spread out and not move forward as a group on the road."

As he turns to move back towards the scene, "Also, Travis has moved off the road to keep an eye out so be careful as you move forward."

"Spreadin' out makes the beast watch more'n one direction at a time." Durek explains to Brodd. "Plus, it keeps a single kick from bootin' three or four of us for half-a-league off the road." He hefts his axe and looks to either side of the road as if expecting trouble.

Amalrik opts for the right side. He waits to see if any of the sneaky ones come forward, Travis and Gorn have done their share in warning us. Not sure if they're continuing to stay up front. Amalrik pulls his sword out, quietly.

Around that moment, one of the sneaky ones came forward.    She gave Almarik a thumbs up at how quietly he'd managed to draw his blade, silently mouthing the words: 'that was good.'

As she was already on the right side of the road, she didn't have reason to switch, and began making her way forward as stealthily as was possible.    Her thoughts were far from quiet, however-

Hells!  What leaves giant footprints and eats horses?  It's gotta be an ogre, or something of that sort...

Will scout up ahead along the right side of the road.

In reply to Gorn (msg # 3):

"So noted, thank you Gorn.

Spread out and stay alert...if we come across the beast surround
it if single but beware they may have a reach.

Take it out from a distance."

With that Einhard moves the group cautiously forward.

Jarvak clears his throat.

"I have enjoyed traveling with you all, but here is where I must say goodbye.  Clark Sparrowheart was one of the outlaws I am tracking, but with the chaos and manticore he got away.   I must continue to pursue him.  Will see about getting a horse here in town and I am off to chase him.   Hopefully we can meet up again."

Jarvak spends a moment to say goodbye to everyone and takes his leave.

OOC:  Thank you all, has been fun.

A short distance away from the party, unseen but could still be heard by whomsoever had been listening, a female's voice had screamed quite loudly a singular word.

"EXEMPLAR!"

While no one in the party could see what had been going on quite yet, Lady Starshell had been standing a few feet away from a massive creature with her sword brandished and getting ready to charge head on into battle.
