The marble stairway is worse for wear, and cramped for humans, requiring movement single file.

Creston holds back, so he can cover the others with his bow.

Pock moves down just in front of Brodd, with his sling readied all the while.

Leohart will tuck into the middle.  One day, he hopes to not have to worry about that, but he isn't there yet.

Alietra goes down first, keeping eyes and ears open for anything out of the ordinary.

The knight gives Alietra a few yards lead, then follows the thief. "Any sign of the vermin?"

Pock and Brodd follow Einhard down the stairs into the unknown, Brodd was glad he had a new friend.

Leohart follows along, as observant as he can be.

Alietra stops and then raises her hand for Einhard, Brodd, Leohart and company to pause.  She points to the archway at the bottom of the stairs, looks back at her party, and tries to mouth the word "goblins!" without making a sound.  She then quietly steps down a few more stairs to try to get a better view.

Inner Monologue: "As a barmaid, we had our silent ways of communicating - it would be really useful to discuss with this lot!"

After peeking through the archway, she looks at her companions and holds up two fingers, points indicating the direction, and then readies an arrow in her bow.

She looks at her party members in a way says, "ready?"

Leo nods back.

Alietra takes a deep breath, pokes her head around the corner, and fires an arrow.

The pair of goblins look up in surprise as Alietra's arrow sails past one of them.

Leo pops around the corner and uses his wand of Magic Missiles to launch an attack on the one who doesn't have an arrow sticking out of him.

That would be either goblin, but just as one of them starts to lift his blade the crack of your magic missile lifts him off his feet and slams him into the far wall, after which he crumples to the cracked stone floor in a lifeless heap.

Seeing the thief fire an arrow, Einhard draws his sword and charges forward with his shield leading the way. He felt a strong compulsion to shout a strange battle cry. "Leeeroy Jenkins!" One of the goblins was hit by arcane energy and collapsed to the ground, so the knight swung his sword at the other.

As the party starts advancing  down the East passage, Alietra's ears pick up the scraping of steel against stone somewhere down the South passage.

Raising a finger in warning, Alietra takes a step ahead of the others and listens intently.

After a moment she returns to the others, whispering low, "It sounds like someone might be sharpening a sword down there, Not quite sure how far ahead. Should I scout ahead?"

Without awaiting a reply, she goes low, crawling slowly forward trying to get a sense of the distance in the echoing of the cave. If she spots anything, she will stop, then slowly move backwards. Either way she will not go more than twenty feet ahead of the party.

The passage South goes to the 20' limit Alietra set for herself, then. judging from the echoes, snakes West another 20', then curves North in a large U shape.

Seeing that we can advance this far without being seen, she will return to the party and suggest they move to that point.

If she succeeds, she will scout out another twenty feet, trying to gauge by ear how far away the noise is coming from.

Leo will keep pace with the team.

Einhard follows a few paces behind the thief with his sword and shield at the ready.

Pock keeps on behind his comrades, stone at the ready.

From the curve, you guess it's another 20 feet of tunnel, then sounds echoing from a chamber another 20' beyond that.

Feeling the party close behind her, Alietra creeps forward far enough to see what is making the noise.

In the darkness you peek around the corner just long enough to make out the baleful glow of multiple sets of goblin eyes before any of them happen to stare in your direction. Five of them, you're pretty sure.

Using hand signals, does her best to convey what she has seen. The 'five' part is easy, for goblins she gestures low to the ground, and big eyes. As that is what they were chasing down here, it should be obvious.

Then she mimics the party rushing them, then shrugs to see what they think about the idea...

Alietra fires an arrow at one goblin, wounding it severely.

Einhard charges in, and the goblins easily jump to the sides.

Creston's arrow nails one goblin in the neck with deadly accuracy, and it crumples to the floor.

Steering clear of the charging figures, Alietra aims at one of the side goblins, the one she already wounded would get first priority though. Over-correcting to avoid a comrade however, her arrow flies off harmlessly.

"Better to attack before they can prepare." Einhard begins pursuit of the fleeing goblin.

Pelting after the others, Alietra curses her bad luck and that they were facing the Jesse Owens of goblins.

Einhard turns the corner just in time to see a stout iron door slamming shut, accompanies by the loud thump of an iron bar laid across the inside.

Placing her bow behind her back, Alietra examines the crack in the door.

"Could you hear which end the final sound came from?" she asks of Einhard.

Does she have anything that would fit through the gap between the wall and the door that she could use to try and lift the bar from this side?

I see Alietra has 12 iron spikes and a hammer in her inventory. Attempting to jimmy the door open would, of course, take a rather long time make a heck of a lot of noise echoing through the stone passageways.

Not what I was trying for actually. If you read my previous post you will see I am trying to see if it would be possible to lift the bar from this side thru the gap in the door. Perhaps with a sword, or dagger?

Keeping true to the Jenkin's Strategy for Up & Coming Knights, Einhard steps forward, kicks the door open, and charges in to the room, expecting a horde of goblins waiting to be cut down by his mighty sword.

Gotta love a prima donna!

Stepping tot he side, outside of the new room, Alietra allows the others who wish to, to barrel past.

Gorn, not wanting to rush in, but not wanting to see his companion die at the end of goblin spears, follows the knight.

Looking back at Brodd, Pock grinned at his friend in a way that he believed communicated the precarity of their situation. Then he went on behind the others, stone ready in his sling, ready to kill if there be killing to carry out.

The party ran into what was once an impressive marble chamber, now humbled by time and neglect.

A long waist-high marble counter stands at the opposite side of the chamber, with metal poles inserted at 5' intervals. Tatters of banners are strung between them, rotted far past the point of identifying.

A figure is crouched behind the counter, with a crossbow braced at the ready. And the very moment Brodd unleashes his sling stone, the foe pulls the trigger.

The missiles fly past each other. The quarrel hits the edge of Brodd's shield and goes tumbling.

Brodd's humble stone, however, is guided by divine Unity, and triumphantly meets with the hobgoblin's forehead, ending his career as a marksman.

The room is now deathly quiet. A cursory examination reveals there were only two hobgoblins in this room. One of them is rather short and  scrawny for his kind; he may have been the "goblin" that escaped into the room before.

"Many thanks, Good Brother," Alietra says to Brother Brodd, grateful for his prompt healing. She pockets the offending dagger, then searches the room.

A few random search rolls. 09:09, Today: Alietra rolled 32,59,97 using 1d100,1d100,1d100 ((32,59,97)).

The dwarf shrugs at the Hobgoblins, interested as always more in the stonework and architecture.

21:23, Today: Dwarghar Stoneblood rolled 1 using 1d6.  detect construction tricks.

Dwarghar pieces together in his mind how this chamber must have looked. There are dirt-filled holes in parallel lines leading to the counter that must have held wooden or metal poles, possibly strung with ropes or chains into several lanes. He can even point to the indentations in the floor where visitors were queuing for centuries.

The counter was set for human height, but a couple steps at the end of each lane could make it easy for a dwarf to take a look at the dusty surface. And these dirt-filled lines in the marble counter...a quick jab at one with a dagger picks away the dirt. Just the right size for a silver piece.

Dwarghar looks side to side to make sure no one is watching, he reveals a silver piece from his stash and tries putting it in the slot...it's probably a waste but his curiosity propels him.

"Well, no dying yet, all. We've got some things to do, yet." Pock was, of course, entirely ignorant of his comrade, the dwarf Dwarghar.

Alietra searches the bodies, having found nothing searching the room.

There's a sound of metal on stone, then a rolling beneath towards the center of the counter, then the sound all adventurers know: the distinctive CHING of a coin falling into a pile of its kin.

Brodd starts to look over the counter for the coin collection pile.

In addition to the substandard armor and weapons goblinoids carry, the larger hobgoblin has a long, rusty key hidden on his person.

He exclaims to everyone with a fierce joy in his eyes.

The Dwarf continues his investigation looking for the right place to swing his hammer or pry with his wrench.

Gorn keeps watch so as the party is not surprised while examining the statue.

Pock fell in alongside Gorn.

"So, Gorn. Did you spend much time in places like this before we all joined up? I sure didn't."

Following where you remembered the rolling sounds led to an d the clinking sounds, you find a keyhole on the opposite side of the counter, smack dab in the middle.

Being a careful sort, Alietra will check for traps before trying the key. Convinced there are none, she turns the key.

Alietra finds no traps. She inserts the key and turns it. A chute drops down from under the counter, spilling silver pieces all over the floor! (5,000 of them since I'm certain you're going to collect and count them all)

Collecting and counting them all, Alietra can't stop humming.

"How many shares, do the ones who didn't come along get some?" It isn't greed but curiosity that makes her ask.

Some would say full, some would say none.  I think it depends on whether or not they are benefiting us, such as watching our gear, or healing up.  It also depends on if they are even still there when we return.

She shrugs, it matters not to her, but she would like to get moving on.

"Should we bag it all now, and split it later? We need to be careful not to dawdle too much."

She glances about to see if there are any obvious other entrances to the room.

"I like coin, but yes, I think I prefer the open air, Gorn. I prefer the inside of a good tavern to the open air, though." Pock took himself to looking around the room for low things, accessible to short folk like himself and goblins.

"Any big strong men feel like toting these coins, so we can move along? I need to stay agile, myself."

I don't mind carrying some or even all if need be - Dwargar begins lifting and packing the coins if agreed. then he realizes he can't carry them all.

Uhm yeah I can carry just over 1.200 coins so we'll need three others to carry the coins.

OOPS having just read the encumbrance Dwarghar can only carry 1200 coins of treasure at this time.

The knight sighs in disgust. "Reduced to a link boy, am I?" He grabbed a sack and filled it with coins, huffing and puffing the entire time. "Next time we bring servants to carry things." He trounced off after Alietra hoping there would soon be more vermin on which to take out his frustrations.

"You shouldn't have developed such strength if you wanted to avoid heavy lifting, Einhard." Pock fell back in with his friend Brodd.
