Awesome.  Sounds good to me.
Here's my updated character from the Final Characters thread:
https://drive.google.com/open?...UUXqu-rwGnnA1WOF162b
Different than the one at the top of this thread. Same points just removed extraneous skills.

Lane launches himself into a Heroic Charge to close the distance between the combatants. When he gets near, he snaps a kick out at Baogang.

Used Heroic charge to close the distance between them with no penalties.

16:34, Today: Vulco1 rolled 7 using 1d6+2.  Kick damage, if done.

What's the hex equivalent in distance measure for GURPS? is 1 hex equal to 1 yard? I need to know in order to figure out my best option here.

Translating Derrick Range to 'Thinking in Hexes':

Range 1 (Reach 1) is 'hex to hex'.  If my maths are right, you're standing next to each other.

I agree with EvilEyore

I can't find it directly in the book but I think a hex is a yard or a meter.  In this case a yard.

But, it works in yards too. I moved 6 yards, with reach "1" I can attack 1 yard away.  It has "C"lose Combat reach as well so I can also attack within 1 yard.

Using the yards and stuff, you can find this in Reach section of the Character Book on page 269.

Lane (Kyokushin Karate) vs Baogang (Tia Chi Chuan)

Baogang makes good use of the Tai Chi Chuan principles of spiraling motion and yielding force, pivoting and stepping to the side as Lane comes in and lightly clearing the kicking leg away from him and up with a hand, hoping to unbalance his opponent with a Cloud Hands parry.

20:32, Today: Dblade rolled 14 using 3d6.  Judo Parry Roll, 13 +2 (Sideslip Retreat) +2 (Feverish Defense) -2 Riposte Total TN 15 -1 FP

20:59, Today: Dblade rolled 11 using 3d6.  Attack 1: Leg Grapple. 16 +1 (Evaluate) -2 Deceptive Attack Total 15.

Edit: Got called away before I could roll and add in Baogang's first attack. Pretty sure Lane can only Dodge, as it's a Leg Grapple, and his dodge is at -3 from the Riposte.

Break down this Riposte for me please.  The way I count it, your parry is 11 (like on your sheet), +2 for sideslip retreat (What is sideslip retreat?), +2 for feverish defense and -2 for riposte. That means Parry = 13.

Then the dodge penalty is -2 because that's what you paid for the riposte, right? Or am I missing something.

Lane (Kyokushin Karate) vs Baogang (Tia Chi Chuan)

Sideslip retreat (p.124 of MA) is an alternate form of retreat used to move to a side instead of backwards, I'm using it with Baogang instead of the normal retreat so that he's still in range. With Judo because it's a mobile retreat it gives a +2.

Baogang's ordinary Judo Parry is 8 (16/2) +3 (standard) +2(Enhanced Parry) for a total of 13 not 11.

+2 from Sideslip Retreat (15,) +2 from Feverish defense (17)-2 from Riposte (15).

The additional -1 is because, as stated below, the Leg Grapple attempt was done as a Deceptive Attack which further reduces your defense.

Attack 2: Baogang utilizes his leverage on Lane's leg to try and take him down.

12:52, Today: Dblade rolled 9 using 3d6.  Quick Contest: Judo for takedown. 16+3 (Leg Grapple) 19. MoS 10

Lane uses the best of grappling skill, ST or DX to determine MoS, but his bonus from Arm ST and Striking ST don't apply.

Also seeking a clarification: If Lane doesn't go down, due to either winning the QC or Immovable Stance, can Baogang let go since those are technically reactions happening on Baogang's turn and letting go is a free action?

Re:  Lane (Kyokushin Karate) vs Baogang (Tia Chi Chuan)

Sorry, two more questions in addition to that one; How are you getting two attacks in? The way I read it, riposte gives me a penalty on my defense Pg 125 of Martial Arts., but it doesn't give you an extra attack. And you can't use it with a deceptive attack, which is where I thought the second attack came from.

And from my read of it, Grapple is one attack then you do another to do damage.  Or is that wrong? Pg. 370 of campaigns says subsequent turns.

I'm just trying to figure out where you bought two attacks for this round.

The Immovable Stance entry says that against a Judo Throw, it goes straight to a Quick Contest Characters pg.201, if the active defense doesn't work. It looks like against Judo Throws in particular, Immovable Stance isn't a "skill succeeds/skill fail" thing.

I don't think quick contests have an critical fail conditions, because of the Margin of Success thing and it doesn't mention critical fails.

I do not believe that initiating a grapple and following up with a takedown on the same turn is legal. Its a similar situation to arm locks. Also, how did you get the rapid strike penalty down to -1? you have trained by a master, yes, but that just gets you down to -3.

EDIT: oh, flurry of blows. Be aware that one is 1 FP per attack, and its nice to state it explicitly.

For the record, I'm not a fan of either rule.

Re:  Lane (Kyokushin Karate) vs Baogang (Tia Chi Chuan)

it does say that under the rules for Takedown in Basic, however under Grappling and Multiple Attacks on page 128 of MA it says that you're able to perform multiple grappling actions that would normally take a turn provided each are rolled as a separate attack? It also specifically mentions you can grapple and make an instant follow-up. Throws from Locks have been specifically called out as not part of this on SJG, but I haven't found anything saying so for Takedowns.

Also, regardless it was a Leg Grapple attempt. Which means Lane has to use his dodge to defend, not his parry, with the -3 from Riposte.

I believe the rules say that the retreat happens simultaneously of the attack, so Lane is technically the same distance from you that he started at until the end of the round. So you can finish your attacks.

At that point he'll be 1 yard away. Unless Baogang takes a step and follows Lane.

Re:  Lane (Kyokushin Karate) vs Baogang (Tia Chi Chuan)

Baogang falls back under the fierce onslaught, deflecting each of the powerful strikes. Against the last punch he makes another unbalancing Cloud Hands Parry.

19:58, Today: Dblade rolled 13 using 3d6.  Judo Parry Roll,13+3 (Retreating)+2 Feverish Defense -2 Riposte -2 Multiple parries TN 14 .-1 FP.

19:56, Today: Dblade rolled 12 using 3d6.  Judo Parry Roll,13+3 (Retreating) TN 16

Baogang then attempts to seize on the unbalancing by seizing Lane's wrist on the last punch and whirling him into a throw on his outstretched arm.

Edit: Forgot the penalty for Multiple parries after my second Judo parry, but still make the roll AFAIK.

Are you talking about that roll with the immovable stance? That wasn't an attack maneuver, I was just wrapping up the missed kick roll that you reminded me of, to make sure I wasn't on my back this round. And the kick was from the turn before you took your step and evaluate, so I think it's legal. Or am I missing something?
