Re: Cowboys and Indians: Charge!

Ben hollers, "WOOP! Got one!"and aims again. This time at another bow woman, to the left of the one he had been aiming at.

Aim at the 4th from the left, or the second from the left with a bow.

Re: Cowboys and Indians: Charge!

The mounted archers keep aiming at their targets while they continue the charge. The spear girls are still taking all out defense and charging towards the wagons, although some eyes are watching what Earnest is doing on their flank.

The slightly wounded archer is running forward on foot.

the orders to Laith have been received, and she'll be sauntering forward at 2 yards around until instructed otherwise.

No, I mean...

* I suspect a copy paste error.  Unless there's a reason Laith stopped dead in his tracks for one turn?  ;)

Yes, a copy paste error. I see now.

Earnest is at (58,68), moving forward at 12 yards/sec.

My bad, I've had food poisoning since tuesday so I've been out of it.

Daisy takes her shot, but misses.  She then drops down low behind the wagon's side (in the bed) and sets her rifle down.

Earnest takes aim at the rightmost spearwielder's horse.

20:07, Today: evileeyore rolled 13 using 3d6.  Daisy shooting at injured horse, Rifle 11 (Skill 13 - 9 SSR* + 6 ACC + 1 Bracing).

* Range -10, +1 SM.

Re: Cowboys and Indians: Charge!

Earnest cracks off two shots missing his target but the bullets continue down the line of comanches†...

Daisy scoots left in the wagons bed, while while fast drawing her pistols.

OOC:  † But who does he he hit?  And this is why charging lines learned to stagger...

For reference, every horse and rider down the line takes a chance of being hit on a 9 with both bullets, starting with the horse and rider next most in line, and continues until both bullets either hit a target or miss every target.

03:49, Today: evileeyore rolled 11 using 3d6.  Earnest's first shot, Ranged Rapid Strike, Rifle 9 (Skill 16 - 7 SSR + 3 ACC - 3 RRS*).

03:49, Today: evileeyore rolled 12 using 3d6.  Earnest's second shot, Ranged Rapid Strike, Rifle 9 (Skill 16 - 7 SSR + 3 ACC - 3 RRS*).

* -6 Ranged Rapid Strike, + 3 for Flurry of Blows, spending 2 FP.

03:58, Today: evileeyore rolled 15 using 3d6+1.  Earnest potential damage, first shot, 3d+1 pi+.

The idea was Daisy was dropping down out of sight... are the wagon sides too short to give complete cover?

Re: Cowboys and Indians: Charge!

The archers aiming at Ben and Earnest now let their arrows fly, while the one who had aimed at Daisy cursed since she lost her aim. She waits for her opponent to show herself again.

The two rightmost spear girls and the archers who aimed at Earnest will now turn and ride towards him.

OOC: Since the two rightmost archers are aiming at Earnest, I am assuming they have each fallen back from the line a bit to keep line of sight on him. If that is not the case, both lose their aim because the spear girl on the right blocks their line of sight now. I'm going to assume one is 1 yard behind the line and the second is 2 yards behind. Derrick, if I'm wrong, their attacks should be ignored. This would also mean they are not in bounds for Earnest's two bullets flying down the line.

Mari rolled 7 using 3d6.  Archer attacks Earnest (10 = 15-7+1+1).
Mari rolled 5 using 3d6.  Archer attacks Earnest (10 = 15-7+1+1).
Mari rolled 0 using 1d6-1.  Damage 1 (1d6-1 imp).
Mari rolled 2 using 1d6-1.  Damage 2 (1d6-1 imp).

Both would hit Earnest, one for 2 damage, the other for 4.

I just noticed the range mod should be -8, but both would have hit just the same.

Archers shooting at Ben:

Mari rolled 15 using 3d6.  Archer attacks Ben (7 = 15-10+1+1).
Mari rolled 13 using 3d6.  Archer attacks Ben (7 = 15-10+1+1).

Both miss their target.

I started rolling for the unintended targets, and assuming the two archers are out of the line, a spear girl would be hit. Does she get a dodge?

Earnest twists out of the way of the first attack, but gets hit by the second attack.

OOC:
Mari:
Mari rolled 7 using 3d6.  Archer attacks Earnest (10 = 15-7+1+1).
Mari rolled 5 using 3d6.  Archer attacks Earnest (10 = 15-7+1+1).
Mari rolled 0 using 1d6-1.  Damage 1 (1d6-1 imp).
Mari rolled 2 using 1d6-1.  Damage 2 (1d6-1 imp).

20:48, Today: evileeyore rolled 8, 13 using 3d6,3d6.  Earnest Dodge 10, 2 attacks.

Second attack, 2 damage - 1 DR = 1 damage.  It's impaling, so it's 2 injury.

quote:
Both would hit Earnest, one for 2 damage, the other for 4.

First... it isn't damage, it's injury if you're multiplying it by the wounding modifier.

Secondly, where are you getting 2 on the first attack?  Zero times two is zero.  You do not round up from zero.

Thirdly, please stop multiplying by the wound modifier.  Just list the damage and the type, in this case "0 damage impaling", let the other Player figure out how much injury they are taking.  It's a bad habit.

Re: Cowboys and Indians: Charge!

The shots from the flank missed their intended target, but went on down the line of Indian warriors, who realized now why the man had performed this weird maneuver. The third spear girl from Earnest's position suddenly jerked violently and shrieked, dropping her spear and falling off her horse. The horse of the next spear warrior in line was also hit, and it went down terribly, breaking a leg. The rider on top managed to get off the horse almost unscathed and was still in the fight.

The two archers and two spear warriors closest to Earnest now turned their charge towards him. The archers reloaded their bows. The two archers heading for Earnest managed to load their bows in a second, while the other three all got butterfingers and dropped their arrows.

OOC: Regarding the damage, I went with this from page 378: "A negative modifier can’t reduce damage below 0 if the attack does crushing damage, or below 1 if it does any other type of damage."

Mari rolled 14 using 3d6.  Dodge (12) for spear warrior.

The spear girl takes 15 damage, which equals 22 injury. She is at -12 HP. She made her HT roll to avoid death, but she failed to remain conscious.

The second bullet strikes the horse of the spear warrior next to her. I'm not sure how many HP the horse has, but I rolled a HT roll anyways.

Mari rolled 15 using 3d6.  Horse dodge (8).
Mari rolled 10 using 3d6.  HT roll horse.
Mari rolled 13 using 3d6.  DX+1 roll for the horse.
Mari rolled 13 using 3d6.  DX+1 roll for the horse (break a leg?).
Mari rolled 6 using 3d6.  Riding check at -2 (13).
Mari rolled 12 using 3d6.  Riding check (15).
Mari rolled 1 using 1d6.  Fall damage.

So the horse is down with a broken leg, and the spear warrior has suffered 1 fall damage.

In case anyone wonders, while determining who could be hit I went with this sequence: 1) the rider riding the horse which was missed, 2) the next horse in line, 3) that horse's rider, and so on.

This is how the line would look now:

       S
     B
       S
b

   B
       s

       S
       B
       S
       B
       S
       B
       S

Where S = mounted spear warrior, s = spear warrior on foot, B = mounted archer, b = archer on foot.

Thank you!  I was hunting for it under impaling, and when I couldn't find it started to think it was a "houserule/hold-over" from 3e in my head.

Re: Cowboys and Indians: Charge!

I need mount rolls from the horses of the archers that are falling behind in order to fall out of line properly without their riders loosing aim.

Any actions from the bow wielder on foot?

Please make a roll to see if unconscious rider stays on her mount

The horses have 22 HP, but DX 9.

The center horse has no rider, and has stopped. (0,98)
The Comanche Line is from (14,68) to (-14,68). The number in that line will be finalize after the mount rolls.

Daisy at (-4,-1) with 2 shots down from her riffle, and has a pistol in each hand

Ben at (1,-2) is down 6 shots. He has one second of aim at the center left archer

Earnest at (58,92) down 8 shots and (provisionally) down 4 hp and 4 shock.

Without a War Saddle unconscious riders just fall off.  If she were merely stunned she'd get a Riding roll at -4 to remain seated.

So basically, the one who hit Earnest would have lost her aim. She would have hit without aim as well though, see her roll from Sunday.

Re: Cowboys and Indians: Charge!

The bow wielder that would have hit Earnest (the second bow from the right) is still in line, and her horse gets hit by the bullet that otherwise would have targeted the fourth spearman's mount in line. The rolls are reused, as the skill levels are the same.

The center horse has no rider, and has stopped. (0,98)
Another riderless horse is at (6,68)  (still in line) and is slowing down
The unmounted bow wielder is down 2 HP (8,104)
The unmounted Bow wielder is down 1 HP and prone (2,80)

The Comanche Line is from (14,68) to (-14,68).
One Comanche on the left has her bow drawn back
One Bow wielder is just behind the line at (12,66) with just her bow
Two bow wielders in the line have their bows
Seven Spear wielders are in the line, missing only the third from the right

Daisy at (-4,-1) with 2 shots down from her riffle, and has a pistol in each hand

Ben at (1,-2) is down 6 shots. He has one second of aim at the center left archer

Earnest at (58,92) is down 8 shots and has no idea he randomly shot the foe that would have hit him

Re: Cowboys and Indians: Charge!

Earnest realizing he's blown past the their flank drops his aim and wheels Laith in a hard turn (as hard as possible at this speed), moving in a tight 'J' and into pursuit of the Comanches!

Daisy pops up and braces across the wagon's side taking aim at a 'central' archer.

OOC:  Earnest should 'end' at (52,90) now moving diagonal towards the rear of the Comanche line.

Did the archer end up missing Earnest due to being shot?

And are there only 4 mounted Archers remaining and 7 mounted Spears?
