Re: Cowboys and Indians: Charge!

Earnest takes aim at the far rightmost spear Comanche (11,0).

Ben crawls forward (2,0) and leans out taking a shot at the spear wielding Comanche (8,2), then ducks back under the wagon/behind the wheel.

Daisy leans up and fires at the spear wielder (-8,2) and bow wielder (-7,2) side by side right in front of her and then drops back down...

OOC:  My bad, for some reason I thought Mari had asked you for combat rolls for her and was waiting for that... I have no idea where I got that idea.

21:13, Today: evileeyore rolled 11 using 3d6.  Ben Pistol 10 (skill 15 - 2 pop-up - 3 Range).

A miss unless you don't count it as a "pop-up" attack because of lack of cover (not sure how much cover being under the wagon would give, if any).  Note, despite performing Pop-Up attacks, since Daisy has "Cool Under Fire" she doesn't suffer the penalty as long as her foes are within 12 yards.

21:23, Today: evileeyore rolled 13, 7 using 3d6,3d6.  Daisy, two shots Pistol 14 (at Bow) and Pistol 13 (at Spear), (skill 18 - 2 Range) and (Skill 18 - 3 Range).

21:24, Today: evileeyore rolled 4, 1 using 1d6,1d6.  SAPLE check, 3 or less.

21:26, Today: evileeyore rolled 8 using 1d6+2.  SAPLE Round, no exp follow-up; 1d+2 pi+.

21:28, Today: evileeyore rolled 3, 1, 3 using 1d6+2,1d6-3,1d6-2.  SAPLE Round with exp follow-up; 1d+2 pi+, 1d-3 [1d-2] cr ex follow-up.

Re: Cowboys and Indians: Charge!

The bow wielder that Daisy fired at took the bullet right below her breast and groaned in pain, but she managed to keep herself on her horse. She was badly wounded now though.

Daisy's target carrying a spear fared worse. She screamed in anguish as blood splattered the mane of her horse and fell, dropping her spear.

OOC: Since the Spear Wielder at (8,2) made her dodge, it does not matter if Ben would hit or not, but of course this should still be decided.

Daisy's targets both failed their dodge though.

Mari rolled 8 using 3d6.  Dodge Spear Wielder at (8,2) (10).
Mari rolled 11 using 3d6.  Dodge Spear Wielder (-8,2) (10). -> She takes a total of 14 damage.
Mari rolled 14 using 3d6.  Dodge Bow Wielder (-7,2) (10). -> She takes 12 damage and did already lose 6 HP before.
Mari rolled 7 using 3d6.  HT roll unconscious Spear (-8,2) (12).
Mari rolled 4 using 3d6.  HT roll unconscious Bow (-7,2) (12).
Mari rolled 14 using 3d6.  HT roll major wound Spear (-8,2) (12).
Mari rolled 7 using 3d6.  HT roll major wound Bow (-7,2) (12).
Mari rolled 1 using 1d6-1.  Spear fall damage.

Re: Cowboys and Indians: Charge!

Ok, I just realized stopping the horses and dismounting them are not a single action. Dismounting is a change posture maneuver, while stopping the horses is a move action.

The horses will stop moving on their own once they reach the wagons. Dismounting them before then will take an acrobatics or jumping roll, which the characters don't have*

riding the horses in and attacking from horseback is also an option.

are you sure you want to spend two actions to stop the horses and dismount at close range? I don't think Eyeeore's actions change depending on that result. feel free to revise the actions of the lancers.

Sorry, I should have noticed that and posted this rather than encouraging Eeyore to make his post.

*note to self: jumping/acrobatics is a core skill for cavalry.

Re: Cowboys and Indians: Charge!

That's no problem, we're all learning here. :)

I'll stick with the actions of the Indians. It might not be the best way to go, but they are not the most professional warriors either. So they take too long to get down from their horses, that happens.

Re: Cowboys and Indians: Charge!

Unmounted bow wielder (4,86) continues running.
Unmounted Bow wielder (6,60) will start moving, following Earnest. As soon as she can, she gets an arrow ready.

The Archer at (-7,2) made her HT roll and readies an arrow.
Archer at (20,20) shoots at Earnest. Her skill is 15 -4range +1Acc = 12. She would hit for 1 imp damage (I guess that is covered by his DR).
The Archer at (0,16) continues to ride towards Earnest and keeps aiming.

The Spear Wielder at (-14,8) grits her teeth and gets back up on her feet. (She made her HT roll.)
The Spear Wielder at (-8,2) dismounts.
The Spear Wielder at (-5,3) dismounts.
The Spear Wielder at (0,-2) stops her horse (she also made her HT roll).

These two got reversed somehow.  Ben shot at and missed (8,2), Daisy shot at, hit, and rendered unconscious from wounds* (-8,2).  See msg #161 for reference.

If this would change things for Mari, I'm fine with her revising her moves.

* Figuring just to swap the rolls from (8,2) to (-8,2).

Ben leans out and fires at the one dismounting next to him (0,-2)...

Earnest at (17,18) and is down 12 shots. His horse is moving (-7,-10) each turn. He will pass next to the bow weilder at 8,10 this turn at high speed.

* She can reduce the range of the shot a LOT by waiting until they pass each other. However, both of you are moving at 12 yards/second in opposite directions, and it the speed and range table, so you can't reduce effective range to less than 24 yards. It seems the parthian shot is best done at the same speed as your foe, not riding either away or towards them.

Mari:

A Crouch can be performed as Free Action at the start of a Turn, you can still Step freely even in a Crouch (other Move options are restricted though).  So the spearwoman could perform an Attack Maneuver, Crouch, Step, and attack.

Maneuver choices are important to note (to prevent arguments later about whether you All Out Attack, Attack, Committed Attack, Defensive Attack, Move and Attacked, etc; all of which change your defensive capacity), though it appears all your Maneuvers were Attack Maneuvers (which leaves you with normal defenses).

Note, Daisy is actually "Crawling" or "Kneeling", as she couldn't go from Prone to 'Crouching' (Standing in a Crouch) in one Change Posture Maneuver, likewise Ben is Crawling.  (This matters as it penalyzes their defenses)

Waiting for derrick's ruling on Cover vis-a-vis the attacks and if Mari wants to take the opportunity to attack Ben.

And yes, all attacks are simply Attack maneuvers, no All-Out Attack anywhere.

Re: Cowboys and Indians: Charge!

Move and attack is also an option (though the Comanche have mostly already moved into place). Noting maneuvers is a good idea. Defaulting to simple attack maneuvers is probably the correct response to not noting them, but it would be nice if we don't have to.

Cover rulings...

Daisy is kneeling behind a fairly short wagon wall. That should expose about half of her body, for light cover and -2.

Ben is under the wagon, and he's not especially near the edge. For someone crouching to attack him, I'm going to call it Medium cover for -3. Attacking him without crouching will be essentially attacking blind, at least from the front side of the wagon.
