Per's Thread
Per walks a bit closer to the man, trying to see his features and keeping watch for any sign of an ambush (roll is below). He maintains an open, nonthreatening posture.

"You had a crew working the Clocane cave. Two of them are now at the mercy of the count's justice and are useless to continue on in the work, and the others I killed." He ceases moving towards the shadowed figure. "I am very effective at completing tasks, but I like to know where I stand. I'd like to work for you, but I need to know if you are the head of this outfit or if there's anyone you answer to."

12:28, Today: Per Lamat rolled 12 using 1d20+1.  Perception.

In reply to Per Lamat (msg # 86):

The man considers this for a moment. "I suppose I can't question your competence. You have disrupted my interests, but that goes more to prove dedication, than malice on your part." He strokes his chin for a moment. "I suppose I could use you as an enforcer. Would this be acceptable? I am in charge for this area, but there are more... national figures to which I report."

Per gives the man a small smile. "Thank you."

In one fluid motion, he draws his sword and flail and rushes the man.

Don't know if I get a surprise round. Will roll as if I have one, but I'm totally cool if you nix it.

13:55, Today: Per Lamat rolled 12 using 1d20+4.  Longsword attack.
13:55, Today: Per Lamat rolled 5 using 1d8+2.  Longsword damage.

13:55, Today: Per Lamat rolled 5 using 1d20+4.  Flail attack. (That's a nat 1 because that's what I like to roll.)

13:56, Today: Per Lamat rolled 6 using 1d20+1.  Initiative.

The man staggers, and brings a short sword up at you, missing. He disengages with you and runs to the door.

Per gives chase, attempting to stop the man's escape.

Movement:
Chase down Rasputin. Get between him and exit if I can.

Action:
14:35, Today: Per Lamat rolled 9 using 1d20+4.  Longsword attack.
14:35, Today: Per Lamat rolled 9 using 1d8+2.  Longsword damage.

Bonus Action:
14:36, Today: Per Lamat rolled 16 using 1d20+4.  Flail attack.
14:36, Today: Per Lamat rolled 5 using 1d8+2.  Flail damage.

A couple of questions:

Do I have enough movement, and is there space, for me to get between him and the door? If so, I'd definitely like to do that.

Has he moved into the light enough for me to see his face? If so, would he be someone I recognize as a new person in town? I've been to the merchant, Grale's office, the 1st and 2nd floors of the manor, and the tavern. I also spent the afternoon and evening wandering about.

Would my killing time waiting for midnight qualify as a short rest for the purpose of Second Wind resetting? If not, no biggie. I need to learn to specify these things. Also, the answer doesn't affect my actions this turn. I'd attack either way.

As you bring your blade into him, he coughs up blood. Mutturing "Dlya Blekguarda. Dlya korolevy.", he expires, leaving you in the silence of the room.

Per hooks the flail back to his belt, then squats next to the body and checks for a pulse. Finding none, he wipes his blade on the man's clothing, then sheathes it. He examines the corpse for any items or clues, then gives the room as thorough a sweep as he can.

Per sniffs at the flask, takes a small sip, then tucks it away in his pack. Tossing the key hand to hand, he stares at the room in contemplation. After a minute or two, he turns on his heel and strides upstairs. Without slowing, he rounds the bar, takes the tavern keep by the collar and slams the man against the counter.

"You talk, and you talk fast. Your boss downstairs is dead." He dangles the key in front of the man's face, "What's this go to? And who else besides you two jackasses worked with Rasputin around here?"

(Sounds good.)

Per grits his teeth, then sighs and lets the tavern keep stand straight. He points a finger in the man's face.

"You watch yourself," he growls. "No more of this type of stuff. You may still have the count to answer to, but I'll let you be for now. Understand?"

Per nods, then lays two gold coins on the bar. "For the cleanup downstairs."

He leaves the tavern, walking directly to the merchant. He steps up to the stall and lays the key on the counter, "I'd like the deposit box please. Grale's orders."

In reply to Per Lamat (msg # 107):

The merchant examines the key for a moment, and nods. Rummaging through his bag of holding for a moment, the merchant pulls out a medium-sized chest. Per opens it, and starts laughing maniacally. Once he regains his composure, he puts the chest under one arm. The massive pile of platinum coins clinks, and jingles under his arm as he walks off into the sunset.
