Re: OOC Thread
What sort of sucks is my character is very much a brawn build with heavy armor fighter. The loss of Brawn effects bonus damage and resist rolls. Also, dazed so my Difficulty is increased by 1. Considered doing swift actions, but with the dazed effect which I would think would clear since some time has now past(If so let me know and I will edit action to represent this).

I think Vardis you understand my pain since you are dazed too. LoL

That's an important thing to know :-)

GM, what range is the Knight from Omilitis for purposes of mental attacks?

GM, can Vardis still make an Insight roll to get info from attacking Bakrin, in addition to making my regular post?

In any case post from me coming soon after I mull Vardis's available options!

Re: OOC Thread
The Knight is at the front, hence at close range.

If anyone makes that Insight roll I asked back there, I will treat it as if it was made then. But I would rule that any consequences of it are now too late to address since the troops have attacked and you realised whatever there may be to realise a bit later.

I forgot my laptop power cord at the place where I was at last night, so I have to go get it tonight. I may not be able to update today depending whether I can get to the cord or not.

Re: OOC Thread
Ok made my combat post, now for some questions:

-Can Dual Wielding only be used from momentum generated during a combat round, and not from the bank or from adding to Doom?

-I rolled 2 Effects, but my weapon of choice the Broadsword has a static quality (Parry) which doesn't need to be turned on and off by an Effect. Does that mean I don't get to do anything with my Effect this turn?

-I didn't make Reaction (Defend/Parry) rolls yet, should we make them during our turns so as to speed things along, so if we are attacked the GM can use our Parry rolls i applicable?

-What is the purpose of the Regain Guard minor action? Defending/Parrying is a Reaction, so I don't understand what Regain Guard is useful for; unless it allows you to circumvent the Doom spend of making a Parry as a Reaction?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Re: OOC Thread
Vardis, Did you spend any Momentum? Really helps to post what you spend so we can track Momentum Pool.

From what I read, it is just a standard swift action spend which can be done from pool.

From page 115
Dual Wielding. When using the Swift Action
Momentum spend, if one of the characterís Standard
Actions that round are different types of attack
(Melee and Ranged, Melee and Threaten, etc.) or use
different tools (two different weapons), the cost of the
Momentum spend is reduced to 1.

On the Guard Pg 123
A character has Guard automatically if aware of an
attack, standing or crouching, and able to defend. Guard
can be removed temporarily if the characterís defenses are
overcome. A character can take the Regain Guard Action
in order to regain this defense.

When a character makes an attack, the gamemaster
should compare the Reach of the weapon being used with
the Reach of the opponentís weapon (opponentís choice).
The defender is assumed to be keeping the opponent at
bay with the preferred weapon. If the defender has Guard,
then the Difficulty of the attack increases by one step
for every point the defenderís Reach is longer than the
attackerís, increasing from Average (D1) to Challenging
(D2), for example. If the defenderís Guard has been lost,
the attacker gains one bonus d20 for every point of Reach
less than the defender, having slipped past the defenderís
weapon or shield.

Guard is important for the reason Harek stated above. It can be taken away by a Momentum spend by an attacker. If you have your Guard taken away and you have a reach weapon, you are at a significant disadvantage.

GM, per your last IC post, waiting for you to finish updating your post before continuing my verbal assault on the Knight.

I'll post again hopefully early tomorrow. Bogged down by awful family troubles.

There is something else that I wanted to discuss. I seek suggestions on ways to speed up combat on PbP. There will be very many throughout the campaign, hence...

Re: OOC Thread
It is designing the conflict in a manner that there are significant challenges without having massive numbers of enemies to fight.  In one of the games I am playing many of the foes are Minions, so the amount of actual attacks generated is manageable with amping the scenario with a couple tough bosses.

Hard line to walk in what is to much or to little

Re: OOC Thread
Which leads me to one key thing: bunch up your minions in groups like the rules allow. That way a fight with 20 enemies is really a fight with four.

EDIT: FYI, I will be offline Friday-Saturday because I'll be out camping with my son.

Harek Hafgrimsson:
From page 115
Dual Wielding. When using the Swift Action

No, the text specifically states you need to spend a Swift Action Momentum spend, and in Swift Actions right above the entry on Dual Wielding it states:
quote:
Swift Action Momentum Spend. By spending 2
points of Momentum from a prior skill test (even
one from a Reaction), the character immediately
gains an additional Standard Action. The Difficulty
of any test associated with that extra Standard
Action increases by one step.

So my question remains: Does the Swift Action momentum spend (in order to use Dual Wielding) need to be generated in combat via a Skill test or otherwise, or can it be used from the party bank? I mean, if I generate momentum earlier in a skill test I can't really save it in a personal pool, I have to bank it, so I think I could use a momentum from the bank (or by generating Doom) to get a Swift Action to use DW.

Here is what I answered earlier. The primary difference is reduction of Momentum/Doom cost

Yikes! Sorry to hear about it, Talesmith!

The rest of this week will have reduced posting. My wife and I are taking my daughter on a college visit to a school 8 hours' drive away, so I will be on RPOL only occasionally Thursday-Sunday. Next Monday should be back to normal.

Hope your RL gets better.
