at 16:27 | Character Concepts and CreationThis would be the thread where we finish character generation in two steps. First, before actually undertaking creation itself with the help of some generator, give me outlines of your names, character backgrounds to some extent and such cogent details so we can get a preview of what the party will look like.
I think it well to announce how the first part of Whispers of Doom will begin. You will be coming into Khoraja, ambling into the capital itself via the Shamla Pass. So at the beginning, you will find yourselves approaching the Pass from the north. Frame your narratives so that you end up as a part of this journey.
I now announce this discussion open. Do not generate the character until we have all figured these things out. I'll post the link to my preferred generator tomorrow, foreseeably.

at 19:55 | Character Concepts and CreationI shall be playing Nemat ibn Khaldoun al-Rasheed (Blessed son of Khaldoun, rightly guided) . Born and raised (until age 10) in Akbatana, Shem. His mother died in childbirth of his younger sister, and his father, a blacksmith, was killed for a debt. When Nemat tried to save his father he was taken to serve the Black Hand assassin. As he grew older he showed potential to be an assassin himself and was indoctrinated. Years passed and he earned the name Shifrat Alzili (meaning Shadow Blade) for his skill in stealth and combat.
Months ago however, he was given a contract and failed because the target turned out to be his younger sister who was making her own way as a bodyguard of someone the Black Hand sought control over. Nemat arranged for a corpse to take his own place and left, not looking back. To the Black Hand, Shifrat Alzili died (or so he hopes they think that). Now, a wandering Mercenary, he seeks his future.
Perhaps he served Cassilda on some expedition recently?

I think I shall play a man at arms from Nemedia. Hard bitten Merc type, that earns his bread by selling his sword to the highest bidder.

at 21:56 | Re: Character Concepts and CreationI plan to take +3 Expertise and +3 Focus in Linguistics as my bonus skills option from Finishing Touches, so Cassilda will speak Corinthian, Kothic, and Ophirean (the tongues of the three foreign lands nearest to Numalia) in addition to her native Nemedian. And if the Talesmith permits, I intend to take Acheronian as well.

at 23:22 | Re: Character Concepts and CreationSince there are multiple mercenary types already I think I will go with a Barbarian from the North, either from Cimmeria or somewhere else, in the vein of Conan himself. Depending on the timeframe the game is set in perhaps Conan's legend itself set my character off on his wanderings! There are plenty of hooks offered during character generation anyway so I won't have any trouble figuring that out.
In either case it won't be hard to figure out a reason for coming in to Shamla Pass, if alone he could be coming to seek work/earn money/spend coin on food & wenches; if with the rest we could be part of a caravan retinue as guards or the like.
Until we have a character generator decided upon I'm using the books to piece together my character (but not generating him yet, just planning)
