100 years ago when i was in college. I had  an arguement ( a few really)  with my science   prof.

 he said the Universe was  finite, i said  it  couldn't be, because of the expanding thing, he just talked abou a few days before.

 I drew  a tiny dot on my desk, and said  " this is the  Milky way...i walked over to a hot chicks   desk... and said..'what's over  here?' then i went to the   window .and pointed to the next Buiding,"what's over there?'... and then asked,' what is  in  Utah' then the Moon, the  Jupiter,  ect ect...

he said... 'I don't   know"...and i said..'Correct!"

we had a burnout there  who just held his head and said, " Whoaaaa...that's frying  my brain , man" ( of course it was fried a while ago!)

  The prof  was embarrassed,  I loved it. Students loved it , because the prof's ego was pretty big.

now, as  i read and watched  more Movies,  and though about things, we have to understand  how far out from where the  big bang  was( or whatever started this whole thing) so..we are, where we are at..right now. Any aliens  our there, who could come here  would have to be , with in the  first Billion of so Lightyears from the center.... they would be well in advance of us... 2023 here  for us as  thinking people... would be  5203 to  them( or more)

so..yeah evolution  would  kick in, different paths taken.. i have in my game, people of different  levels   that we  find, some  we 'raise up'

That's the neat thing  about SCI-FI, we can mold  our  games/stories  as we  want them

Yup. There's also a HUGE amount of the galaxy we would never get to perceive on Earth, since solar systems actually travel at fairly respectable speeds (our own solar system travels at 200 km/s). So there are situations where two systems are moving away from each other at a relative speed exceeding the speed of light, meaning the light from its star will never reach Earth.

Then there are also a bunch of systems whose light have yet to reach Earth given the sheer distance involved (the light from their initial 'birth' has yet to reach us), stars that have already died and we don't see it yet, systems we can't see because there's a black hole between us and it etc. etc. This is also what would make it incredibly hard to find a stable method to travel to an unknown solar system, even the next one over can have pretty severe differences in the stars one could perceive from its vantage point.

It's fairly interesting stuff, i agree.
