Who's Whom so far

The founder of the family is Dworkin Barimen, the creator of the original Pattern and father of Oberon.

Dworkin’s children and grandchildren are:

Oberon, liege lord of Amber and only known child of Dworkin (by the Unicorn, according to Dworkin).

His children are:

--Benedict (orange, yellow, brown), The master tactician of the family as well as the unmatched master of all martial weapons. He chose to remove himself from the struggle for the crown, leaving Eric and Corwin as the eldest surviving heirs. Moreover, Oberon declared his marriage with Cymnea (Benedict's mom) null and void, rendering all his children by her retroactively illegitimate. Benedict has had an affair with Lintra the Hellmaid of Chaos, during a brief interlude in hostilities between them. Benedict and Lintra subsequently came to blows again (not knowing she'd borne a child by him in the meantime in a fast-time Shadow), and Benedict slew Lintra, but lost his arm. He still fights better with one arm than anybody else with two.

--Dara, great-granddaughter of Benedict after his affair with Lintra.

--Osric (silver & red) and Finndo (green & gold), long-dead brothers of whom we learn little. It is suggested that they conspired to take the throne from their father, after which they were sent to the front lines of a war from which they did not return.

by Faiella:
--Eric (black & red), Corwin's elder full-brother (illegitimate because Oberon & Faiella were not married at the time of his birth). Father of Jon.

--Corwin (silver & black).

--Merlin (purple and grey), son of Corwin and Dara following a brief mid-afternoon fling. A powerful mage-- decent with a sword.

--Deirdre (silver & black), Corwin's sister. Mother of Ariadne.

children of Clarissa, known as "the redheads":
--Fiona (green, lavender, purple). Sorceress of the family. Mother of Jade.

--Bleys (red & orange). Disappeared during the fight to help stop Eric's coronation when he fell from a high place, but he had Corwin's cards on him, so...

--Brand (green), manic depressive megalomaniac sorcerer who made Faustian bargains with the forces of Chaos in order to gain power, apparently able to move anywhere in Shadow by willing it, without using a card. By the time of the final conflict at the Courts of Chaos, he is no longer quite human, even by Amberite standards, and is quite insane.

--Rinaldo, also known as Luke, son of Brand. He and Merlin both studied at Berkeley and then worked with a computer company Grand Design. King of Kashfa.

by Lady Moins of Rebma:
--Llewella (green, lavender, gray), was born of an affair Oberon had with Moins. She is older than Brand and younger than Bleys: Technically illegitimate, she was legally adopted by Oberon to spite Clarissa after their final divorce. Llewella removed herself from the presence of her family, and lives in Rebma, though she stood with her half-siblings in the final confrontation at the Courts of Chaos.

by Rilga:
--Caine (black & green), who killed Brand, and was killed by Brand's son Rinaldo in revenge.

--Julian (white & black), a hunter with a calm manner and biting tongue. He is usually found guarding the Forest of Arden in Amber, with his hell-hounds – beasts out of Shadow who are quite capable of ripping bodies, and metal, with their teeth. Father of Ballad.

--Gérard (blue & gray), a trusted brother, the strongest man in the multiverse and called "the best of all of us" by more than one sibling and half-sibling. His loyalty is not, however, backed up with excessive cleverness.

by Dybele:
--Florimel (green & gray), known as Flora, a beauty legendary in many Shadows and also in Amber itself. Mother of Lance.

by Kinta:
--Coral, a princess from a nearby shadow called Begma, a result of Oberon's secret short liaison with the wife of a Begman diplomat. Married to Rinaldo as part of a treaty between royal families.

by Paulette:
--Random (orange, red, brown). After the final battle at the Courts of Chaos, the Unicorn chooses Random himself to succeed Oberon. Random's passions before this were gliding and drumming and playing cards (not necessarily in that order).

--Martin, son of Random by Moire's daughter Morganthe. After walking the Pattern in Rebma, he wandered in Shadow until he encountered Benedict, who became a mentor. Brand later created a card for Martin, using it to summon him to the Pattern enough that he was able to stab Martin, using the blood Martin shed to damage the Pattern and allow the forces of Chaos to threaten Amber.

Others:

--Vialle, a blind noblewoman from Rebma whom Random is forced to marry. This was intended as a punishment for Random's affair with Moire's late daughter. Random would be bound to stay in Rebma for a year, and Vialle would gain status as a noble of Amber. To everyone's surprise, the marriage worked out well. She is artistic, creating sculptures by touch, specializing in busts of the Amberites. Vialle gives Luke/Rinaldo her protection in the form of her ring, ensuring that the vendetta against him by Caine's supporters will not be allowed to proceed.

--Laurence: castle librarian.

--Ezra Braithwaite: an old man who is a (city) expert on heraldry.

--Trent: Usually guards the dungeons.

--Eudoxio: Julian's green-and-black falcon.

--Viola: The horse Random most often rides these days.

--Volsk, a captain whom Prince Benedict and Prince Julian leave in charge when they're not at the castle

--Fenton: the best weaponmaster amongst the guards, the person who does most of the training of new guards

--Rian: former personal assistant to Eric

--Rory: Rian's strapping young nephew

--Odile: a(n adorable) castle servant who's gal-pals with Jade

--Aymer: A manservant of the castle who has played messenger on occasion. He's dating Emmaline, a baker in the city.

--Emmaline: A baker at The Bronze Oven, a bakery in the city. her specialty is sweet loaves, and she likes to hold hands w/ Aymer.

--Alva Arrington: a very minor noble of Amber. Father of Ariadne.

--Isadora: one of the two female castle guards. The other (the first to be hired) is Azari.

--Malil Barash: runs the gymnasium in the city.

--Hless: a horned rabbit that got lost from his home Shadow in a Shadow Storm. His people call themselves the Lylsel.

--Bloody Mary's: a dangerous bar and grill with nonetheless excellent seafood.

--Tirilaine: the name of a tower in Arden, which itself marks a boundary between Arden and multiple other forested Shadows.

--The Golden Comb: Fancy dessert place open late into the evening.

--Emily's: for people-watching... Trent recommends Emily's, a sidewalk cafe-type place on the main boulevard.

--Statue Garden: a nice park with many statues. Not open at night, though (just to keep teens from hanging out there or whatever).

Who's Whom and What's What so far

SHADOWS:

GOLDEN CIRCLE:

* Anglesey — a beautiful island city, a Golden Circle shadow

* Cibola — a Golden Circle shadow

* Jaday — a Golden Circle shadow

* Kashfa — a Golden Circle shadow ruled by King Rinaldo and Queen Coral with some touchy history w/ Amber

* Tanus — a Golden Circle shadow

* Weirmonken — a forested Golden Circle shadow w/ another diplomatically tricky past w/ Amber

* Begma - an important Golden Circle Shadow where Coral is from. It's basically a very magical steampunk world, so they're good with 'spring-coiled things...' Their society is ruled by a prime minister, and there's also a Senate... Their society is a bit more class-based than Amber is...

* Minos - a Golden Circle Shadow where gunpowder works

* Montevalno - a dramatic Golden Circle Shadow where they like Important People and scheming

* Rebma: the underwater-but-you-can-breathe-too Golden Circle Shadow right near Amber where Jade comes from. Locations include:

--The Temple to the Narwhal
--The Palace
--The Mirror Pools
--Coral Gardens
--The Various Noble Houses
--The Plaza of Heroes

* Lambay: The most interesting documented feature of the Golden Circle Shadow of Lambay is its profusion of gods and temples. The temple district is nearly a quarter of the city. (It should be noted that while there are many gods that are worshiped in Lambay, there are apparently no actual gods of Lambay to worry about.)

Gaia - a curious little dolphin from popular children's stories/the fairy tales of Rebma who's often saved from scrapes by the queen of the dolphins

NOT IN THE GOLDEN CIRCLE:

* Ahogadaluna — near-shadow to Sefonia, marshland, giant toads, antlered foxes, pilgrimage routes, a shrine to the Drowned Moon where the acolytes raise silver falcons.

* Brécheliant — a near-shadow to Arden/a shadow Arden cuts through or overlaps, Ballad’s birthplace.
--has the black-sailed ships with hulls of pearl
--There are many little kingdoms and principalities, dukedoms and courts, all with their own way of doing things. The vastness of Brécheliant is a forest that changes as it desires, or it changes itself according to your desires
--Some of the stars in the sky are people, some are not. Some of the foxes you meet can speak, some cannot.
--There is no great central religion--at least, not in most of the civilized places, although everybody is worshipful of the Moon and the Sun, who may be stolen from the sky or decide to walk the world
--There is a magic fountain called Alberion around somewhere
--Capital city, Larismontaigne

* Faewylds — a shadow where Eric stashed his wife and kid, Jon’s birthplace

* Sefonia — "The Colonel’s" shadow with a seeming invasion of gray men (this Shadow and information was found by Ballad and Julian)

* Sonovashi: a Shadow not terribly far from Amber. It's another fantasy city-by-the-sea, like Amber, although it has multiple mountains and more windmills.

* Venerata - a shadow that sounds like a mix of Minos and Montevalno

* Cherzad - A desert Shadow. Definitely not in the Golden Circle...

* Bercarro -- There's a huge mountain and some sort of magic carriage thing that transports workers from the town, by a river, to a mine opening that starts about halfway up the mountain

Who's Whom and What's What so far

Once one leaves Amber, one CAN circle around (Golden Circle joke ha ha) and get to any Shadow eventually... But some are naturally easier to get to by heading in a given direction.

South-by-southeast of Amber: Rebma (it's technically a barely-separate Shadow!)

West and Southwest of Amber: Arden (it's technically a barely-separate Shadow!)

UP and to the north: Tir-na-nOgth (it's technically a barely-separate Shadow!)

South of Amber, more or less: Earth

Head Southwest-ish: Weirmonken and Bercarro...

Sail East-ish from Amber: Lambay, Anglesey, Begma, Minos, Montevalno

Sail Northeast-ish from Amber: Kashfa

Travel Northwest-ish from Amber: Cibola, Jaday, Tanus

(More to be filled in later...!)
