the starting items are not "bought" they are issued to you by the government when you volunteered to face the unknown threat. if you don't use a shield you would not be issued a shield, if you are someone that dual wields or throws weapons, you would be issued a second weapon in place of the shield. this game has very little buy/sell of equipment. physical currency does exist, but the primary "currency" that will be used to get better equipment is your reputation. when you need/want new, different, or better equipment you just trade in the equipment you have for the equipment you want. if a wizard selects a wand for his "weapon" and fully depletes it, he just turns in the expended wand for a new one. you are issued the equipment that you NEED to do your job well, if you can demonstrate that you need MORE equipment to be able to do your job then you will be issued the equipment.

But it is up to each character to define what those tools actually are. Dont get hung up on the location of the body that the equipment is worn/used. Focus on the fact that you have 14 "tools" and each has a value up to 15,000 gp (equivalent) This message was last edited by the GM at 04:36, Tue 23 Nov 2021.

I can sympathize, one to two times a month I get heart burn so bad I can't form a coherent thought. It often brings on coughing fits, which causes me to inhale the regurgitated acid and then I have trouble breathing for 4-5 days. If you want flaws you may select them from... https://www.d20srd.org/srd/var...s/characterFlaws.htm I don't currently see a need to point out anything special or specific about feats. If that changes I will do it here.

Could you re-phrase your question, I am not sure I am understanding what you are trying to ask. The class skills for a certain class are listed with the class, I don't know of a class that doesn't.

the skills on your character sheet...I think i am still not understanding your question. Are you asking what skills are class skills? Or how many skill points you get? Or how spending skill points translates to skill ranks? Any of those would vary based upon you class that you have chosen. If it helps feel free to info dump so I can get more context for your question. I have been running/playing for so long that I take many things for granted. I appreciate every questions, keep asking them.

My character tends to play up the knight in shining armor routine, half of it is he loves to help people the other half is it leads to enemies underestimating him. Though if folks have some history his mom is(tentatively) a local kind of famous among adventurers.

If you want a custom item (an item not published in a 3.5 book) it is in your best interest to use the crafting chart in the DMG to estimate cost. The more thorough your attention to detail the easier my job as the GM is. You as adventures are being equipped for your missions by a government with very deep pockets, the only limitations on the equipment you can have are... 1) carrying capacity 2) your character's reputation. Character reputation is the biggest limitation. So if you want something...ask...if calculating the cost on the crafting chart is intimidating...ask for help. I am happy to help.

He was just starting to be a name in small circles of the Combat League. He is primarily a melee warrior as one may imagine but has a signature machete pair, when fighting in the League that obviously isn't strapped to him now. Anyone who follows the rookies would likely know that he disappointed. His mom is a juggernaut who singly took on groups of summoned monsters for holiday special events. Overpowering individuals she ranked well as a rookie and showed no signs of stopping, even pregnant with him she only seemed fiercer though she didn't fight as much. Vait just... Seemed distracted when fighting in low rankings, like his pale violet blade and short sword were good but they didn't want to be there as much. When the Dread appeared however, he had to get a few more ranks to be considered by the league to fight for survival of living kind. Apparently that was motivation enough for him as he began to slam through ranks, very near what his mother had done, until he was sponsored. Much of his current outfit is new or at least fancier than he had used in the league proper.

She was raised well out of the way of the city deep in the woods in a small community consisting of her family and several close friends' families. Her childhood and adult life has been filled with galavanting across the forest, hunting, and tree hopping, her family are what some might call overachievers so Bai and her siblings at largely competitive and skilled. Her family trades with Elves often and they live near a fairy tribe, so Bai is quite used to those peoples and that would be the most likely people she would know pre adventuring.

the farm house is un modified, and has not been repaired since the recent attack. but it has 4 walls and roof to keep weather out. you can hear local tears when they happen, it sounds like reality is being torn asunder. you are all just arriving. you each volunteered, and were asked to go to the locations (follow that road for X miles). Because the previous residents died and the farm house is near a road that allows the team to respond quickly in many directions. currently the government is not tracking any hoards, but they are still working at building information networks. the expectation is for the party to be the eyes and outer defense in the event that hoards begin to form. so start with introductions, and go from there.

Connection to many other planes are limited or non existent. I am reinventing the entire history as we go. But as a general guide line ... If a form of magic can be used to better people's lives ...I has. Take spells like trap the soul...serving as a form of suspended animation until the cure for a disease can be found. I encourage you all to add to the history by redefining things in the best light, in ways that make things benefit the world...it may even be appropriate to rename effects. Even small things like telling barrels to pour...think about all the insignificant things a character could take for granted...or why they don't. What does a "plummer/electrician" look like in this society... someone has to maintain and build all the fantastic magical infrastructure.

The lack of bad things happening has led to a slow but significant accumulation of dragon shards, the largest of which is often built into the foundation of buildings to enchant the entire building...or in airships, and the drive engine of lightning rails trains. Dragon marked houses are quite large and typically live in the same regions of the world, but individuals freely move when new opportunities open. House Thuranni exists and is full of skilled preformers and actors (Broadway, Hollywood, and Bollywood) As odd as the house affiliation is they also excell at finding and moving (or in some cases removing) wild animals when they get too close to civilization. Serving as both conservationist and big game hunter guides. House Deneith, the House of the Sentinel, still serves as the force that keeps everyone safe. Setting forth laws relating to fire and work place safety, and what magic should or should not be enchanted and or stored together. House VOL manifested and while small, is comprised of, constructs, deathless and undead. They serve as a means to do extremely hazardous jobs. Mine collapse response...gas leak repair... underwater welding and recovery...etc

Forcing them to do something they don't want to do is a "bad thing". Bad things don't happen. So... The implied alternative is that there is some form of fair compensation, and that the binding is a volunteer process on the part of the elemental. Much like volunteer military service is in the real world. The main reason weapons exist are... ...1) keeping wild animals away from civilization. ...2) harvesting of food. ...3) re-enactment societies (Renaissance festivals) ...4) collectors and museums. I would rather answer questions now then later. But let's do that simultaneously with in character roleplay.

House Cannith has probably not changed very much, since the House of Making is still making things. House Lyrander and Orien are still doing their things, with the Mark of Passage working the lightning rails and the Mark of the Storm dealing with Airships and Sailing vessels. If there was still a split within House Philarn, it probably would not have resulted in Thuranni showing up at all. House Deneith serving as a private law enforcement would make some sense, but that would still imply that there were still villains working in the background of things, so perhaps the veneer of a lack of scarcity is just that, only skin deep. Perhaps only Cannith knows how precarious the balance truly is, and they are just expertly managing it. Or perhaps Khyber is still a threat, just perfectly contained for centuries and likely will continue to be contained, if not by Deneith then by the Gatekeeper Druids. House Vadalis, my personal favorite, is probably more focused on moving hostile animals to animal sanctuaries appropriate for them in addition to their animal husbandry practices. House Tharashk is still seeking out the dragonshards, but their roles as expert bounty hunters is probably a bit diminished, or more for finding lost items/people. House Medani probably helps with that as well. House Sivis, Jorosco, and Ghallanda probably have not changed at all, due to their practices focusing on Paperwork, Healing, and Hospitallity in general. House Kundarak probably doesn't need to make prisons or banks, since no one needs to worry about stealing and crime is very infrequent, if it happens at all. However, they would still be the ones making the secured storage devices to keep magic items safe. My thoughts on the matters at least. How close are they, since I'm sure we all would know each of the Houses and what they do on the surface level? I could be entirely wrong as well, but this is the stuff I love in Eberron in the first place.

It raises questions like, what is EXPERIENCE points really? Are they just key localization of connected memories? Does one have to get a fuzzier memory if they enchant items... You know the stories in general of everything you've done, you remember key actions and skills(hence levels) and could do it all over again... But do you remember the angle and bevel of tablet in the second story of the library?

Not an unreasonable assumption, though though the mental flexibility required, would make that something that requires skill and training...of if it is to be a one way trip some significant adjustment to the new "body" and how to control it it is also possible that an air ship pilot is a druid that can wild shape into any elemental they wish; and self-bind and unbind at will from elemental ships.

"I am a leaf on the wind" Would people in general have, a base AC of 8 rather than 10 because they are less careful, or penalties to saves that they have NEVER had to train with? Maybe just their FIRST 3 are penalized, like having to roll to tie sandals and toggle cloaks... I think though that basic dressing is still a thing people do. That or we would have brought with us the tools of every day life. Those tools may look different but I wouldn't leave my house keys behind or my cell just because I go camping. I think it might be quiet the opposite. Since people are ALWAYS seeing things as learning experiences. ...base ac would be 12 because while they many be less "careful" people in general learn from and teach each other about how to move safer when around dangerous situations. ...saves would be also get a +2 circumstance bonus for the same about reason and being a member of a society that is surrounded by oversaturated magic.

I don't know ...are you...? This game while weird and based upon a crazy concept...only works if the players are having fun. So discuss the PROs and CONs, then make a decision. This message was last edited by the GM at 03:43, Thu 16 Dec 2021.

CONs -Characters are already built -Stat allocation has been set -HP have been rolled, so if you would have a higher HD, could be problematic -All this really just means more time. PROs -Characters would reflect these dual natured training described above -Power level of the game would increase -Potentially more fun after headache of rebuild is complete -Can choose second class to better define characters without multiclassing I just wanted to keep it short and sweet, since I do recognize that we are still technically in Session 0 in the thread and have more wiggle room.

As an example I would say I have to keep the half fey and bard but would be able to move the bard to the other side of the gestalt. But still need to stay with my original concept. That said I am good with group decision.

As far as plot goes, it makes sense to me that the average person could be more powerful due to the factors mentioned, but it could also make sense that since there was no danger and magic items supplied everything that the average person was far weaker and advanced magics never even developed. I don't see strong evidence for the circumstances of this plot to necessitate a drastic shift in the power of the characters in either direction, especially when we already benefit from our kingdom having way too much time and putting that time into magic items which are accessible to us.

However, fixing magic items usually require spells to do it, not just some handwaving or tricking the magic item. It doesn't usually cover the actual fixing either. Warlock and Artificers with their ability to mimic spells for making magic item don't make only a UMD roll, either. They make the UMD roll to mimic the spell, then a separate roll for the actual item creation.

Class specific items are simply dormant as the classes haven't been around. Museums and such might have them, classes may not be something people can recognize though. All the world is likely command word items that would be generic to task. Made from schema and creation patterns that nearly anyone can use... 1 time a day. I think the factions and houses can't exist as people with anything more than dragonmarks for power. Generic magic weapons and armor are sought after by those in the Fighting League for both style and effectiveness. When this threat happens though, teams would form and people would have likely only been able to field a few teams confident and actually capable of fighting back. Depending on the frequency of the tears and their nature, it might be as little as hours before anything not in a big city might be overrun. Though that might take as much as years for the dead to spread far for significant damage to outlying areas to be noticed. It might be months before people even accept that it is really happening to the world.

something more like how the renaissance festivals and SCA... https://www.sca.org/ ... keeps the traditions of the middle ages alive in a novelty sort of way. ...or how there are still blacksmiths and cobblers in our real world...but they have gone from an everyday occurrence seen on every street corner ... to a rare specialty one must travel or go searching for.
Artie Alternate, 4 posts Fri 31 Dec 2021 at 03:47 |
Are you really in rural no where if you have half a day walking access to a Circle and can teleport to any major city virtually any time?
NO-BODY GM, 299 posts this is a paradox I always lie Mon 3 Jan 2022 at 19:08 |
Teleportation circles large and small are integrated into the mail and mass transit system of the world. but the persons that mass produce the actual circles...that is likely the only thing that individual is good at. Most long distance transit needs are met via the lightning rail system, airships, teleportation circles. Short distance transport down the block or across town is largely handled by carriages drawn by horses (mechanical and organic) as well as arcanely enchanted vehicles and "pathways" through the city that give commuters the ability to fly when "on the path". for reasons of keeping some things simple the population is not significantly higher then "cannon" ebberon. But when it comes to the "boundaries" between cities there is enough instantaneous travel options between cities and towns that a person could visit every town/village/city without actually stepping foot outside any of them long enough to truly understand the distance being crossed instantaneously.
