The Legion Arrives (0.0.5)
The man on the horse dismounts and the steed vanishes as though it were never there and, now that he was closer, the group could make out details.

His shining armor was accented with light blues and the blue crest bore a black rose upon it. He seemed to be in his late 30s to early 40s, with streaks of white in his otherwise sandy blonde hair and goatee. He bore several badges on his cloak (DC 15 Knowledge (Nobility) to know more).

Frederick looked nervous as the man approached. "C-count Harlen… I did not expect to see you in person."

The man Frederick referred to as Count Harlen scowled ever so slightly. "One of my major cities was burned to the ground and I received a messenger bird regarding Undead occupying the fort near Averden. Does any of that seem like something I would not need to attend to personally?"

"Well, no I just..."

"You may go, Frederick. I will be dealing with this situation personally."

He swallowed hard and turned, walking hurriedly away as Count Harlen turned to Wisla and Arashi. He appraised them both with the same stern gaze. Now that he was this close, they could each see a violet stone similar to the one Morien wore fastening his cloak.

"I heard you came from the town of Arelisia."

A small Scorpion slides out from a pocket and crawls up her body and almost seems to whisper in her ear as the general approaches. She nods and bows slightly to the count showing deference to the man that is most likely a senator, "Good Evening, Your Excellency Count Harlen, I was a citzen of Prembroke, I fled with children when monsters attacked my home to Arelisia. Upon arrival i got to see even more of these creatures brutally first hand and feel some of it to." She shudders at the memory, "They cut people up just for the sounds they make then combine them with a stone that brings them alive as monster that want to do the same. They don't care if it is women or children. They came here to kill the people of this village as well. Our group hunted them across the planes and slew the monsters headed for this town."

Harlen listens intently, his face never-changing. "Prembroke. Yes, both the fall of Prembroke and Arelisia have been tragic. I visited the sites on my way here and they were both destroyed.

Frederick sent me a messenger bird, saying that you were undead mercenaries occupying the fort nearby until payment could be made for killing a witch and the minions that had taken up residence there."

He revealed no emotion under his stern demeanor, but his hands never strayed to his weapon. He was still calm and relaxed.

As the two parties met, Arashi took his place in front of Wisla but a bit to the side so he would not distract from the conversation. His sword stayed safely stowed in its scabbard while the monk tried his best not to let his mind wonder. He looked relaxed, almost serene, but stood in a way  that implied that he was ready for combat should it erupt.

The monk watched as Wisla bowed to the noble and also nodded his head politely. He was vaguely aware that this man was of some importance; but the leader he had once served loyaly had likely perished long ago. Arashi served new leaders now, and this man was not one of them. He would show the man the bare minimum of respect if only to keep order and to support the interests of Morien and Wisla.

Arashi, far less stoic than this Harlen, frowned at the perceived insult. He was no mercenary; in his life his travels had led him to an odd job or two, but what little money he made went to food and weapon maintenance. He had not been paying too much attention to the details of the fort since the liberation. Morien said to wait, so he waited. Wisla said to train, so he trained. Still, he had a feeling that the Frost Lord had a lot more in store for this bad of lost souls than a little mercenary work. Still, it was better to keep his thoughts and opinions to himself; his presence was simply to dissuade violence after all.

Her face flickers as he says they are tradegy with no emotion. To her they were horrific brutality that would haunt her unlife and perhaps her afterlife once she finally died. She attempts to be carful, "Undead mercenaries, interesting way of put it. I dont know if I agree. We are warriors that were offered a chance to return and fight. As I told officer Fredric, I am here to destroy the monsters or chaos beasts. I never want to see children ripped apart for the enjoyment of monsters again or melted by acid."

Her rage building a bit as she comments on the creatures so she pauses and takes a breath. Looking around at the group around them, she continues calmer. The Count may even notice the green commander who doesn't yet know how to give a concise report he has seen before, "Initially I requested to use the fort and mines to act as a base of operation in which to battle the forces of chaos. As well as to keep some other monster from moving into it. There was a hag that was kidnapping and eating children with ogre and goblins minions. The Had and Ogres are dead. The goblins were also victims whose children were used as hostages. When Officer Fredric proved unwilling to even allow us to use the fort until help such as you could arrive, it seemed to me I needed to put the discussion in another light. In fact he insisted an abandoned ruin of a fort and an abandoned mine were important strategic assets of the empire. I pointed out that as we did a service for the empire, freeing an important strategic asset, protecting a town from chaos beasts and therefore we should get recompense for doing so. Id prefer to work together to stop the threat as allies but if we have to act like business associates to get something done ill do that as well. A messenger from town came to my camp last night offering to trade our help in training the town in return for use of the Fort. I never even bothered to produce the bill as that seemed a better means to get a real alliance. I can do so if you would prefer that however lets find a way to coordinate our efforts against these chaos beasts rather then work against each other."

As Wisla explained the situation fully, Harlen's face softened a bit and he finally smiled. "That was the answer I hoped to hear from you. As I mentioned earlier, I visited Arelisia… and, though I found signs of carnage, I also found that the bodies had all been committed to fire.

I found it hard to believe that mere sell swords would tend to the dead so respectfully. Frederick is a paranoid man, and with good reason, I suppose, living out on the fringe of civilization like this.

Monsters occupying the abandoned fort has long been a problem. Clear it out and a new monster shows up not long after, and getting the Imperial Bureaucracy to mobilize a legion is a nightmare... so I would like to thank you for your service to this town and what you did for the people of Arelisia. So long as you continue to abide by our laws and prevent monsters from infesting the place, you may use the fort and mines as long as you like."

He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. "Now, if you do not mind. I have a somewhat personal question to ask of you. What kind of undead are you, exactly? I've dealt with zombies, ghouls, vampires, and more... but I sense no evil within either of you. Even though your bodies course with negative energy, I feel neither hunger nor malice."

Wisla calms alot more as the mans stern face relaxes. She seems to be more comfortable being as honest as she can be, "I am Wisla Tin, Your Excellency. Thank you for allowing us to use the Fort and Mines. The method of raising is in some ways closer to summoning than true raising. Lord Morien called most of us. Though after he called me I proved able to do the same. There are three different types of returned warriors within our cadre. One is Lord Morien, I do not understand what he is or how he returned. The 2nd type he calls Valkyr, and I am one of those, I have the ability to send people on peacefully, see the deads greatest and worst moment in order to decide if I want to call a fallen back, and finally the power to offer them the chance to return and fight. My ally here Arashi, is a Einherjar, they are warriors called back without such power."

Harlen's eyes widen for a moment but quickly return to a more neutral expression. "So you are summoned rather than reanimated. I suppose that makes sense regarding how you can be undead and lack the normal drives that negative energy brings.

I would speak with this Morien. Is he at the fort?"

"When i left him he was at the fort. I would be happy to take you to meet with him. Would you prefer to leave at once or wait for morning." She watches him with intrest wishing she had more training in social venue. Damn her hometown for leaving her with only the skills to scare off threats. Continuing to use sincerity as her best method she can think of.

Harlen looks off in the direction of the fort. "Tonight would be best. I cannot afford to linger here for very long."

OOC: assuming Wisla leads Harlen to the Fort, the quickest path would lead near the camp.

As they depart Wisla decides to go by the camp. Since they are she decides its best to try and bring up the topic of Tavi's transformation before the general notices it on his own, "So our group has some charecters for example Arashi here is a warrior monk. Whom I saw fighting to both test himself and defend honor. I am sure he is hoping for a chance to challenge you to a duel to test himself agaisnt a war hero. I called a 2nd warrior, Tavi, who has a bit different of story. He was kidnapped by a witch in his youth who sought to use his power over words to strengthen herself. He fought and endured torment after torment curse after curse as she attempted to break his will. She never won he always fought the evil she sought to his last breath. I had hoped that the curses she layered upon him would be gone when he returned, however it did not work..."
