Three Days Later (0.1.0)
After three days of waiting, the group assembled back at the fort around the completed archway. It had now formed into a foggy portal and a few dozen burly warriors wielding axes milled around the place, moving debris, shoring defenses, and cleansing the place of the foul remnants of the hag's inhabitance.

When the group arrived, rather than meeting Morien, they were met by a blonde man in a goatee wearing full-plate armor and looking somewhat out of place amongst the others. He greets you with a smile. "Greetings, I am Avalon the Grey. Lord Morien told me to be expecting you. He is currently resting but told me to answer any questions you may have."

Tavi had gone missing one night during the last three. The following day there was a pile of monsters just outside of the fortification, Tavi being found having made a den out of the monsters. He spent half the day an absolute wreck having lost himself.

However, on the new day he ran right past the dandy man and started writing down the runes, their order, and every last detail he could about how they had been placed for use.

Avalon bowed and gestured to the archway, ignoring that Tavi had just run past him. "This is a gateway to Isla Muerta. It has the power to give new flesh to the spirits of the dead. Einherjar and Valkyr who fall in battle may opt to revive here should they find their way back.

It will also serve as a source of reinforcements to garrison the fort.

as for 'where to now', I have not been made privy to that information."

"Then why are we here?" Erin asked in frustration.  "We've been just sitting here, doing nothing for days!"

She hadn't come back after three hundred years just to camp and stare up at the stars all night.

Tavi rolled up his new portal lore scroll. "We have been Mustering for three days. During this time we have been setting up a number of things. In my case, I found out about the riders and learned where Feather Tits the Witch is."

"Though when Morien wakes up he and I need to have a long and potent heart to heart conversation. I may have to give him a bop."

Wisla looked over at Erin. Finally losing her patience with the other women. She had been avoiding helping and actively hostile for days. Now she was complaining about having nothing to do, "Sitting here doing nothing? Have you been so blind and lost in your own prejudiced to notice what has been going on. Arashi, Erikur and myself have been training the village in self-defense and bringing up people to be leaders. You could have helped us there. You could have come here and aided Morien in the creation of this portal or in repairing the fort while he worked. Perhaps you could teach people to deal with battlefield wounds in the town. You may have been able to aid Tavi in his search for information. You could have at least discussed the issue with me and see what could be done. You chose do nothing. So I turn your question on you; why have you returned? To complain about how you cant participate in fixing the problems while others do it for you!" The half orc balls her fist as she pulls her temper back in check. Fighting that internal racial drive to fight to prove who is right. Closing her eyes as she pulls the rage back there is nothing to kill here.

As Wisla lost her patience, Morien finally emerged from within the fort. He stretched and yawned. With his helmet off, it was plain to see that he was still weary from his work.

However, he made no move to interrupt Wisla. Instead, he took a seat on a makeshift stool he had been using to work from and observed for the time being.

Arashi frowned when Wisla chastised Erin. He too was becoming restless and shared Erin's frustration. Training soldiers and short non-lethal duels was far from his purpose and the conflict eroded his undead soul. He put a calming hand on his General, "We all have different needs that bind us to this world. None of us knew what we were coming back to when we were called back." He paused to let his words sink in, "Erin was chosen, like all of us, for a reason. Place your trust, if not in Erin, in our Frost Lord."

Erin didn't argue with the woman.  She realized half-orc's weren't known for their wit and subtlety.  Instead, she turned to the Dreadlord and hoped he had something productive for them to do.

Morien stood, seeing the situation resolve itself. "In order to do battle with a numerically superior foe, we will need to fortify any gains we make. It will make no difference if we kill a few enemies and leave, only to have them return afterward and slaughter everyone.

Nor will it benefit us to ignore the people themselves. Reaching out to the people we encounter and helping them, even if it is in small ways, may open paths for us that would be otherwise closed.

Combat is essential to war... but it is far from the only thing we need to accomplish."

He half turned toward the portal. "This portal will allow us to travel to the kingdom of the Einherjar. For now, that's where we're going. If everything goes as planned, I'll be able to tell you everything soon."

He motioned for the group to follow as he stepped through the gate.

The Frost Lord stepped into the portal and the monk followed.

Arashi still had a few questions; How were these creatures made? Were they under someone's control either directly or indirectly? Shouldn't their free time be used more efficiently, perhaps to hunt down hordes while their master is otherwise occupied?

Perhaps his questions would be answered in time. For now, he would simply see where this path leads.

On the other side, the group immediately noticed that the portal was far more impressive from this side. Blocks had been placed, forming steps, and the archway had been reinforced and decorated. Even though it was unfinished, warriors labored on completing the structure as crowds gathered to cheer the arrival of the group.

There was no mistaking the storm-blasted landscape and the ever-bleak skies of the Land of the Dead. However, unlike in most places, this place had been turned into a fortress-city, with stone buildings built as high as the weather would allow.

It seemed almost as though a civilization had formed here.

Morien waited until the group had passed through the portal before addressing them. "Take care here. If you die in the realm of the dead, I will not be able to revive you."

Morien the raised his hand and waved at the cheering mob. They parted for the group as they walked and Morien led them to a building that looked to have been constructed from marble. The grand stairway led to an even grander entrance, which led to what appeared to be a feasting hall of enormous proportions, likely with the capacity to fit thousands.

Morien placed a gauntleted hand on one of the pillars and paused before wiping the dust off and continuing past the hallway into a stairway that led to a balcony overlooking the grand feasting hall. There, attached to a circular mechanism upon a dais, were three thrones. One was composed of bone, one of ice, and one looked to have been made from recycled weapons.

Morien took off his helmet and turned to the group with a sigh. "Welcome to Valhalla..."

Tavi walked up to the portal, heard the cry of a peacock, and walked the fuck away. If he crossed over that barrier to the land of the dead they would be attacked by the Witch army in no time. Good warriors, he may have, but that bitch had an endless flock of spirit birds.

He hopped down off the building and called back to the man with a goatee. "Watch the portal, if you see a peacock you need to kill it."

He had a ritual to do.

"Before I was killed the first time, I  left instructions to have this transported to the realm of the dead should anything happen to me. These..."

He gestured to the thrones. "...are the Thrones of Divinity, the very seats of power of the gods. There are 12 in total, ruling over all of the aspects of mortal lives. The reason the world is in the state it is in currently, is because the thrones sit empty... but, more than that, the Thrones empower each other. So, each throne becomes more powerful with each one that becomes active.

Once this place is functional, Valhalla will serve as its own pocket dimension and mobile fortress, allowing us to travel the world as we please. It will also serve as an afterlife for the Einherjar that are stranded here... and, with any luck, I will one day be able to open the gates to the Outer Planes once more.

Unfortunately, for now, it is just a building. Until we repair the Arcanthis reactor, I can only tap into the most basic functions of the Thrones. Fortunately, I have someone who owes me a favor and I think I can get her to tell me where I might find replacement crystals.

Now comes the time to make a decision. I can come with you and meet my old friend, or I can remain here and see which functions I can get to work."

He turned to address the group. "So I'll ask you. Do you believe you are currently up to that task?"

Jessie looked around as everyone pondered the question. "Well, I'm the newest one but I think that if we all travel there, we should be able to handle it without you. That way, you can concentrate on getting your thrones to work. Not to mention you'd be able to bring the boys back with relative ease anyway. It's a win win.

"I know what I can do, I've seen some of Arashi's technique, and I'm truly under the impression that Tavi COULD fight if he WANTED to. I don't know anything about the rest unfortunately. All in all, our rag tag team should be able to make due with what we have. "

Arashi appeared from the portal and took in this new world with wonder. Perhaps in his earlier state he was far too distracted with anger and self pity to notice, or maybe his soul never reached this world; so bonded with his weapon that he refused to move on from the world. Either way, this was the first time this monk had seen this land and it had a strange desolate beauty of its own. He felt a pang of nostalgia well up as he made his way through the fortress city and pushed it away. Instead he focused on the inhabitants and openly sized each one up as he passed them.

When the Frost Lord finally began to speak, Arashi turned his head to listen. Much of what he said went over the old monk's head but he gathered the basics; they had to meet with Morien's friend and retrieve an item from her. It seemed simple enough and if the posibility of violence did rear it's ugly head, Arashi was far from worried of meeting his true death, not that he expected it would happen. When Wisla accepted the mission Arashi simply nodded in agreement and waited for further instructions.

With the majority in agreement, Morien sat down and retrieved a sheet of paper. He pricked his thumb with a quill and wrote a quick note in his own blood. "This should grant you an audience with her. Her name is Baba Yaga and she is the progenitor and true queen of all witches and hags. She is, above all others, someone who should be shown respect. Tavi should be able to guide you to her current residence.

Take care on your journey and return here when you have the crystals. I will be waiting until then."

As the group moves back through the fortress-city, they are approached by one of the spectral residents.

Could this be someone Morien simply forgot to mention? Perhaps I should say something? Well, seems like Wisla is the leader. I shall wait for her input.

Wisla takes the note to Baba Yaga and looks at her little scorpion as it tells her something that makes no sense, "We will return with the crystals when we have them." She looks again at the scorpion and speaks softly to it, "I understand if Morien says she exists she must exist. Dont call him a liar..." Sighs as the creature continues to explain how Baba Yaga cant possibly exist.

The spectral appearance is a familiar if mysterious sight in the land of the dead. She has been haunting the vicinity of the portal since it was built, mostly lurking in shadows, occasionally adressing newcomers to enquire about a child.

Zenobia is her name, some would know, and she was once a great beauty of flesh and blood. Here however shes only the shadow of her living self, a husk of her former grace, although there is still something fascinating about her.

As Wisla seems to lead the small group, she adresses her primarily. The voice is soft and eerie, with a faint and unrecognisable accent.
My name is Zenobia, and I hear you are on a journey to see Baba Yaga. She did not know whether that was a secret, and did not explain how she came to know about it.
I too was once resurrected by Lord  Morien, and sent to the land of the living to accomplish my unfinished purpose... the memory of it seems vivid, and painful, moreso than the excruciating process itself.
I wish to accompany you in this journey, for I have questions for my Queen and Grandmother. I will assist you in any way I can on the journey there, and having a witch at your side to visit Baba Yaga will be useful if not strictly necessary.

She bowed her head slightly. It wasnt hard to tell that she was making a point of being more composed and well adjusted than she usually was.

Arashi sized up the newcomer and found that his expectations fell far short. The new woman's introduction as a witch only served to change the monks monk's disappointment to distaste. He frowned; had they not just slain a witch a fortnight ago, along with bringing in a necromancer. He bowed at the new arrival, introducing himself. "I am Arashi Naru." He said simply. Child-Eater or not, it was still better than being dead. Besides, as he had said not to long ago; he would have to trust that Morien knew what he was doing.

Arashi blinked in surprise; the witch could sense his unwelcome thoughts despite his stoic and unreadable demeanor, was the Witch able to read his very thoughts? The monk had assumed that such abilities required a piece of him to perform; a strand of hair, a nail, or some such body part. Obviously this woman was far more powerful than he had believed. It was no wonder that the Frost Lord brought her back. He pondered for a moment what other abilities she possessed before he remembered that she could read his mind, or perhaps sense his emotional state.

Whoever judges others digs a pit for themselves

Again, his masters' words rang true. Arashi softened and regarded the woman without duplicity, "You have been chosen by Morien. So long as your goals do not hinder those of Wisla's, Moriens, or myself, you will have no trouble from me. The others however..." He paused, glancing at Erin before continuing, "I wish you luck, with your second chance."
