Death and Reanimation (Prologue)
Wisla looks at her hands taking in her new power to see the life of those who are dead. She looks back at the bodies and joins Morien as he picks up bodies and moves them to the fire. She touches each body before picking it up. Carrying it to the pyre and speaking about the good each person did. Focusing on the greatness of each one. The first time she cannot or has trouble lifting a body she uses her magical skills to increase her strength. Each person lifted and placed spoken well of. She pauses on a valiant warrior, "Sir, this man might be able to help us if he is willing." Looks to Morien so he can restore this one as well.

Death and Reanimation (Prologue)
She'd thought Pelor had called her back to service.  He didn't.  Morien said that her Lord was gone.  They were all gone.  The Gods had abandoned them.  They were alone.  She was alone.

Erin, Sister of Light, would not accept that!  Morien may have raised her up again, but he was not all knowing.  Pelor would return for them.  This was a test of faith.

She would show Him they were still worthy of his love.

The dark haired woman with the longspear followed Morien at a distance.  A worn wooden symbol of Pelor hung from her neck.  She wore a jacket over chain shirt with a light mace hanging from her waist.

This place was much different than where she'd been raised.  She'd awoken in a crypt, her name carved into the stone where she lay.  These new ones had just been lost, their bodies lying in the street.

How did he know the worthy?  Who would fight to inspire the return of the Gods?.

Death and Reanimation (Prologue)
Morien looked at Wisla and nodded. "Then ask him. Your touch binds you to the soul of the fallen. Speak to him, as you would if he were still alive."

OOC: this is a power of the Valkyr as well (just one that is story only). The next person to join this thread can be brought back by Wisla.

Erin's reanimation had not been quite as kind as Wisla's and Arthur's. While searching for the unburied dead within the crypt, he had found her holy symbol. She had wished to return and he granted her that wish... but the things she wished to protect had long since been ground to dust.

The prayers she prayed had gone unanswered and she had not taken his revelations well, considering who he was.

Death and Reanimation (Prologue)
The brief, simple speech seemed to rouse the young mage. He slowly ceased his weeping lament and began steeling his resolve, "Yes, it is not too late. Your sword against the Chaos hoardes. It shall be so." As if for the fist time, Arthur realized the others were being animated also. He began shuffling around trying to put a rhyme or rhythm to who is being reanimated and whom is not.

Death and Reanimation (Prologue)
Waldo peeked his head out of what was the old smith. "Oye! Enough metal here to make a number of things. The dragon is eating the lot like a snake so its going to take a moment. Did you want me to grap the Fuel as well or do you have some means of heating metal?" He looked back into the shop. "My left arm for an arcane forge rod."

Looking back, "Hey, you found some pretty ones. Before too long it will be more social and less 'loot everything of value'. All things in due time I suppose."

Death and Reanimation (Prologue)
"Why are you raising us, Dreadlord?" Erin finally asked.  It had taken a while for her to get her bearings, she'd been dead such a long time, but her brain was catching up now.

"How can we succeed where your legions failed?"

Wisla places a hand on the corpse and speaks, "Please come back help us stop the destruction of the world." Imagines in her mind her hand reaching through to the world of the dead and offering to pull the person back

Death and Reanimation (Prologue)
Arashi's time within the void was quite unpleasant. Left to stew with his own rage and shame for what he felt was a lifetime. He spent much of the time obsessing; both over the weapon that led him to this state and his own predicament. He was too far gone to meditate and he couldn't wield the very object that he was so fixated on. If only there was a...

"Please come back help us..."

Arashi reached for the words but hesitated; did he deserve a second chance?

"stop the destruction..."

He was taught that the action's in one's life culminates when they die.

"of the world."

Wait, destruction of the world. The monks needed him and he would do his part. He reached out again and seized the words.

Arashi rose to his feet and immediately collapsed. He felt his hands gripping his sword once more and his heart soared. His mind was ablaze. There was so much more that he could do, so many techniques to practice. But first he had to get up from the floor.

Struggling to his feet, he took in his surroundings. He was no longer at the inn. The woman in front of him was not his killer, who was likely long dead. He looked at his own belongings. Most were missing, he would have to scavenge what he could from the pile of dead he had been tossed on.

Arashi felt his old strength beginning to fill him. After checking his sword, which while the hilt had faded a bit was otherwise unharmed, he turned to the woman who brought him back and bowed humbly.

"I am Arashi Naru. How can I be of service."

Death and Reanimation (Prologue)
Waldo had been found in a workshop beneath a collapsed roof, though he had died before the destruction of the city from what Morien concluded had been heart failure. His reanimation had been a painless one and he had been more than eager to return.

While the others were tasked with caring for the dead, Waldo had been tasked with scavenging the city for anything of use. (OOC: Waldo has a plot based "infinite bag of holding" that holds the gear that everyone starts with and is handing it out as people are reanimated. That way, no one is ever reanimated without gear. It also helps with any craftsmen we may have.)

"Bear in mind, Waldo, that you should be looking for finished items before raw material. Once you've found all the equipment that is salvagable, then fill it with whatever else you think you may need."

He paused from his task for a moment as Erin addressed him. "Dreadlord? Now that brings back memories... and not necessarily good ones."

He sets himself to his task once more. "My legions didn't fail. I was betrayed... and that betrayal was the seed of all of this calamity."

"Tell us what we need to know," Erin replied to the Dreadlord.  She'd missed so much and even these recently dead might not know the true origins of this calamity begun hundreds of years before their birth.

Death and Reanimation (Prologue)
Waldo shook his fist at Morien, "The ability to make things is always more important than the shoddy work of another. If you would let me install some shelving and a workstation inside the bag we wouldn't have to worry about twenty shovels of half a dozen spades."

He set down a metal raven, gave it a small jolt and the bird started hopping around, picking things up and tossing them to an unseen creature that apparently gobbled the objects down.

He gave Erin and Wisla a bow, "I am The Toy Maker, named Waldo. Welcome to this chaotic time, it shall be most fun righting wrongs and saving people with you."

Death and Reanimation (Prologue)
Morien continued his work as he spoke. "I can no longer say for certain what state of affairs this world is in now. I have been dead as well... for about 300 years if the calendars are to be believed.

A portal to the underworld opened in the farthest reaches of the North and daemons rampaged across what was once my home. In the time of my first life, I raised an army to oppose them. I beat their forces back to the cliffs of Aarak and, with no place left for them to maneuver, was ready to drive them back through their portal.

But one of my lieutenants had fallen prey to the dark whispers of temptation and led a force of 'heroes' from the south to put an end to what they called my 'unholy crusade'. They carved their way through my Einherjar, but I defeated them, only to have my lieutenant stab me in the back while I was wounded.

I cannot say what happened thereafter. I can only say that all of this..."

He gestured at the death and destruction around him. "... is the fruit borne from the seed of that betrayal."

Morien threw another body on the pyre. "They called me 'Dreadlord' because they looked at my Einherjar... at people like yourselves... and saw only monsters."

Death and Reanimation (Prologue)
"Aren't we monsters?" the erstwhile Sister inquired sardonically.  They were abominations.  There was no life in this undeath.  She remained only to fulfill her calling.

She would follow, but not blindly.  Should it become necessary, she would be the one to stab him in the back.

In reply to Arashi (msg # 14):

When Arashi began to struggle back to his feet she offered a hand. Hoping that she could aid him in rising once more. "For now we gather ourselves and prepare to fight the monsters that did this and to care for those dead that will not or cannot return" She motions to the field of the dead that surround them she bows back politly or at least attempts to before droping to a knee and touches another man. In Simple cloth clothing, "Like this man who died to protect his daughter. A man with nothing but a kitchen knife facing those who would do harm to his family." She picks the dead man bearing him to the pyre, "I am Wisla Tin." She smiles and he may notice larger then normal canines in her lower jaw. Perhaps she was a half orc in life.

Arashi nodded and watched as Wilsa performed her duties. So they were powerful warriors brought back to fight monsters. Fascinating. He turned and walked to join the rest, who seemed to be in some sort of discussion. He had hoped to help his savior, but it seems that for now he must wait.

As he approached he eyed each member of the group, trying to access their abilities. From what he could tell they were all powerful in their own right, but none had the look of swordsmen.

"Looks can be deceiving young Arashi."

Yes, it would seem that after all this time the teachings had not left him. He would meditate on that later.

Finally arriving at the group, Arashi bowed respectfully but otherwise drew no attention to himself.

Morien continued his work tirelessly. "It is exactly that mindset that brought this world to ruin. Do you define yourself by the clothes you wear?

This flesh is just a shell, a suit of armor for your spirit and you can take it off any time you wish. It does not define you... and it never will unless you let it."

Death and Reanimation (Prologue)
Erin stared off into the distance.  She wasn't going to argue with the Dreadlord of the North.  He'd given her a second chance to stop this demon horde and set things right.  He should be satisfied she hadn't killed him already.

He was right about one thing.  She was only a shell.  She wasn't hot, cold, hungry, thirsty, tired, or even breathing.  The only thing she still had of herself was her faith and her drive to push these demons back to where they'd come from.

Death and Reanimation (Prologue)
Wisla overheard the argument about them being abomination or monsters and it inflamed an old rage in her the same arguments had happened in her youth about her. A child of orcs, of monsters. She reaches down and checks another corpse this one was another potential ally so she extends her offer only this one refuses. Causing her to stumble back from the strength of that refusal. The refusal helped her regain control of that anger and instead she pulled it in word and controlled it before walking over to speak to Erin. "Excuse me can I speak to you in private over there?" Points to the man on ground that refused to return. Her shoulders are tense with controlled anger but her words are polite with a hint of compassion. She turns heads back to the body. Hoping the other women would follow her.

Death and Reanimation (Prologue)
She looks at the other women and considers carefully speaking softly but with some force,"No, I saw his potential and offered him a return to aid us. He chose to refuse. I don't know if I can fully understand your frustration with what is going on. I have never been religious or understood much in what is pious or sacrilege." She pulls pack her lips and shows what were once her tusks, "When i was alive I was the product of raiding and ravaging. Orcs attacked and killed many people. I grew up in a village where because of who my father was, I was an abomination or a monster. People told me so and the rage and anger I felt told me so. My mother never did. She told me that I was who I wanted to become. That I could use that rage and anger to protect and not destroy. I'm sure there is some truth to your opinion as there was some truth to theirs, I had a monster inside. That didn't make me a monster." She stops and takes a deep breath controlling her emotion before she continues, "Even if it is true and our existence is an abomination or we have a monster inside we cant accept that is what we are. How long can one who believes they are a monster fight being a monster." She looks down at the body at her feet the one that refused to return, "Destroying our moral and claiming we all monster may cause that very outcome."

Death and Reanimation (Prologue)
"We need to fight," the Sister agreed, rising to her feet with the help of her longspear.  "We fight to remember what it was like to struggle for breath, yearn for shelter, and overcome sickness.  Remember everything that once kept us alive.

"Our struggle for life is over.  Now we fight to preserve as much of our humanity as we can.

"Forget what we've lost and we will truly become monsters."

She looked at the woman and her heritage was slight, easily forgotten.  How would she cope now with such obvious reminders of how different she really was?

"We will see, in time, whether we win this fight."

Death and Reanimation (Prologue)
Verean shudders as he stands, the pain he felt as he resurrected still fresh in his mind. He rises to his full height, a taller and broader elf than most. He looks to Morien, nods his head, then looks around the scene and the people gathered around. "My family... They live in a city just like this one. This needs to be stopped, and I will do all I can to help. There is no question." He says, his strong feeatures darkening as he takes in the destruction around him.
