Death and Reanimation (Prologue)
They said that Death was a warm blanket of nothingness.

They said that Death would take you into the Realms of the gods.

They said that Death was a natural part of life.

 They Lied.

Death was a stormy grey landscape filled with howling winds and the ever present pall of despair. Your ectoplasmic body found itself tied to whatever object you held most dear in life and it took phenomenal effort to move beyond those boundaries for more than a few days.

The newcomers to this grey wasteland appeared in Nurseries, buildings that were linked inextricably to death. They grew from large, ectoplasmic "wombs" over the course of a day and would sleep for... varying lengths of time.

Most of those here wished they could return to sleep... but there is no sleep for the dead. Not here.

.
.

And then a voice called out to you, managing to make itself heard even over the eternal storm. "Do you wish to return? Will you fight with me?"

Those who answered "Yes", found themselves wracked with unimaginable pain for a brief instant before opening their eyes once more in the world of the living.

Death and Reanimation (Prologue)
Standing over each person is a man in blue full plate, who offers you a hand up and another hand around your shoulders to steady shaking knees. His helmet is off for this work and you can see the face of a blonde haired, blue eyed man. He looks a little pale but he smiles at you with sad eyes. "Welcome back."

Death and Reanimation (Prologue)
Looking around, you find yourself in a destroyed city. The stink of rot, death, and smoke assail your nostrils and you hold your breath, only to find that you can do so indefinitely.

Some of you know this city. It was Arelisia, the stronghold of the Magic College... but now it is a collapsed ruin. Bodies lay strewn in the streets. Tortured, butchered, and partially eaten... and those were the lucky ones.

The guards lay stacked and skewered on spikes with the bones of their extremities lying partially consumed on the ground beneath them. The roads were slick with blood and other, less identifiable fluids.

...and, as you orient yourself in this new, blasted Hellscape, Morien releases his grip on your shoulder and makes his way to the next body.

Death and Reanimation (Prologue)
Wisla spread her legs to try and regain her balance like a newborn doe trying to stand. For a few moments she is unable to speak the devastation around her is heinous. Finally she sees the broken body of Agatha the youngest of the children she had fled with. Fled to safety and this is the result. She falls again to morn the little girl. The half orc women weeps even if she is no longer truly capable of it and that lets out a war cry of pained anguish. As she does raven wings explode into existence upon her back. She finally sets the little girl down and takes up her great bow and rises she turns to the one who brought her back hair seeming to now be that of burnished gold rising and stretching her new wings she looks at Morien, "What must I do? How can this be stopped? How can i make sure that children stop dying to these monsters?" Few of her orcish features remain, the tattoos she scared into her own skin remain and the lower tusks have become sharp lower Canines.

Death and Reanimation (Prologue)
Arthur stood with the man's help. It was a unique sensation, he thought as he unsuccessfully tried to make his body work. Standing, unblinking and unmoving, he thought this must be how it feels to be trapped in one's body. The thought passed as he searched his memory for raising undead... "Yes, this feels right." The sound even surprised Arthur and he ran his tongue around a dried out mouth. The head jerked sideways like a dog cocking to hear better. "Ma... Master, what needs doing?"

As soon as the words left his mouth, the environment triggered memories. The Magic College, where he had made his headquarters to research the Chaos Winds. "You need me... I remember now. A terrible thing was changing Magic's raw essence, I was learning, trying to control the uncontrollable. All thought I was mad, maybe I was but there were so few of us with the knowledge that anything was happening. I tried to warn them, by all the Gods, I tried to warn them. None would listen..." Arthur's body gave out as the flood of memories of a former life and emotions grew too heavy to bear. Falling to his knees, he simply wept at the world's demise.

Death and Reanimation (Prologue)
As Wisla touched Agatha's body, the child's brief life flashed before Wisla's eyes, her best moments and her worst. The time she stole a sweet cake before dinner and the time she helped stand up to a neighborhood bully... and then the sensation passed.

Morien looks down at the child that Winsla had set down before kneeling to pick her up. "The road ahead will be long... and we may very well see more tragedies like this before things get better."

As he walks, Wisla can see that he has been stacking corpses on what looks to be an unlit funeral pyre. "But there is a way to stop this madness."

He gently places the young girl on the pyre, lights it, and makes his way back into the misery to find yet another. He pauses by the corpse of a mage and places a hand on his shoulder. The gem in the clasp of his cloak shines brightly for a moment and he, like Wisla, rises.

He pats the mage on the back reassuringly, though his hands feel as though they were made of ice. "The winds and hordes of chaos CAN be stopped."

He looked at Wisla. "But I cannot do it alone. You will be my Angel of Mercy."

He squeezed Arthur's shoulder before letting go and moving on to the next corpse. "And you will be my sword that crush the forces of Chaos that threaten this world..."

"...and together, we can take back our world."
