30 sounds about right then.  Go with it.

In case it wasn't clear wounds are cleared away and all that.  Mental and physical scarring remains to whatever extent you wish.

Bennies reset to three for the beginning of the next chapter, with the following caveats:

-There is now a Legend Chip in the Pot.  Adjust rolls accordingly.

-Theme Song Contest!  If this game were a TV Series, what song would you play behind the opening intro?  I'll give to Thursday for entries to be posted to the OOC.  Then we'll vote for the best.  That person starts with a spare Blue Chip.  Anyone can get a spare draw by writing up a description of the intro.  Y'know.  For fun.  If you like.

Given this game's fondness for classic rock, I see something heavily rock-inspired. Now, I've gone down a rabbit hole of listening to tons of trailer music -- there's this group (I think it's a label, rather than a single band) that produces short trailer music bits for various genres. It's called Gothic Storm. And they have several albums that would fit right in. So...

quote:
INTRO

Music starts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9832CYIw48

~Doot-doo, doo-doot-doo, doodootdoo-doodoodoot-doo~

[Close up on The Dog, as it rolls down the shattered highway of the post-apocalyptic south, and then Kelly's image is superimposed upon it]

~DUNT DUNT DUNT!~

[Rapid flicker of images timed to the beat, focusing on Kelly as she swings Connor at various cultists, weirdos, and that oil monster from the very beginning, are superimposed upon the image of the Dog rolling down the highway, all while her actress's name appears on screen]

~Doot-daa, doo-doot-daa, doodaat-doo-doodoot daa~

[We keep focus on Kelly. These images are less action, and more just snippets of her moving, turning, and ending with her looking at the camera while smiling. After this sequence we fade into images of Dean.]

~DUNT DUNT DAA!~

[This time the focus is Dean as his actor's name appears, again in action mode to the beat as he bursts out of ambush, as well as him taking shots, with at least one image of him in "psychic invisibility mode," the special effect the show uses to indicate his powers are "on" to the audience]

~Doot-daa, doo-doot-daa, doodaat-doo-doodoot daa~

[Again the focus is Dean, in less "action" poses and more "show off the actor in motion," ending on Dean looking smoldering and intense, before fading into Fletcher]

~DUNT DUNT DUNT!~

[Fletcher's sequence is him activating various gadgets, again with some flickering special fx that indicate "magic stuff is happening" to the audience while his actor's name appears]

~Doot-daa, doo-doot-daa, doodaat-doo-doodoot daa~

[More Fletcher, again in "actor show off" poses instead of action movements, ending with a shot of him looking intrigued before fading into Harry]

~rrrDNT DNT DNT!~

[The images of Harry, with his actor name below him, all either scenes with him maneuvering, or scenes of him taking hits that bounce off the shiny chrome of his torso. This last sting ends with a shot of him giving a thumbs-up to the camera as the beat fades to black for a brief moment, before...]

~DHAAT-DHAAT DHAAT DHAADHAADHAA!!~

~DOOT DOO DOODOO DOO-DOOT DOODOODOOT-DOO!~

[The final shot is of the four of us standing on the road in front of the dog, striking heroic poses, while beneath us the title RIGGED appears in large letters. In the background, atop the Dog, are a number of the supporting cast, including Pru and Crowboy manning the .50 cal.]

~DHAAT-DHAAT DHAAT DHAADHAADHAA!!~

~DOOT-DOO, DOODOODOOT-DOO, DHAA-DHAAT-DHAAT DHAADHAADHAAT!!~

[Finally, we zoom in to the cab of The Dog, where The Driver sits, laughing maniacally as the camera goes into an extreme close up and we fade to black. The last sound we hear is the trail end of his laughter before the sequence cuts.]

Re: The Dew Drop Inn - OOC Chatter Part 2

lmao Harry wins

But for the sake of making the effort, I see it going one of two ways.

The first is, The Network Takes it Too Seriously:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5ISBJc1wFk

Similar to The Walking Dead, the introductory sequence is highly saturated, overexposed sepia toned still shots of iconic items wielded by the various characters, but the characters themselves are not depicted.  However in a somewhat original twist, they're all set up as if marking a grave, implying each of the characters dies this season.

Kelly's shot is first, given she literally has a signature weapon.  The sword is thrust into the ground with the tabard draped over it, a rosary entangled in the hilt.  The location is unremarkable wilderness.

Dean's shot is next and is even less subtle:  a pre-War grave with his boots and rifle leaned against it, suggesting the character is buried in an already occupied grave which makes no sense but it does kind of look cool when you're just looking at it for a few seconds and that's what counts.

Fletcher's shot is more like an ofrenda or other such memorial as opposed to an actual grave.  It's in the gas station of the first encounter scene, set upon a massive rolling toolbox, his various effects scattered about artfully, as if he were working on something there, was killed, and his effort abandoned and left for some scavenger to find.

Harry's is the last and it ends on what looks like his trusty shotgun, broken open and unloaded, on top of a pile of debris that looks like it was once a big black semi-truck.  The shot suggests some kind of incredible damage like the whole thing was destroyed by a massive explosion.

In between are even quicker cuts, showing the guitar sword-axe laying in an overgrown field, we get an old inexplicable photograph of Delilah with her Colt SAA lying atop it, the Ma Deuce rusting in a dilapidated barn, Crowboy's machete lodged in a fence post, the face plate of the Iron Man armor laying in the desert sand...

It's all very dramatic.

Or:

The Network Desperately Panders for Ratings and Also Tries to Cut Down the Production Costs By Making The Intro Too Long

The theme music is completely incongruous with anything in the actual show, but involves a lot of guitars and screaming.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTzkxNbb_tc

And sure why not, it's in Japanese too.  But it's not animated.  It is however 90%+ CGI

All of the characters are given inaccurate depictions.

Harry has continuity errors between shots.  Sometimes he has the saw arm on his left, sometimes on his right, sometimes he's shown with two mechanical hands, it's completely inconsistent.  The angle is always low to make him look as tall and wide as possible.  He's constantly shown wielding flamethrowers and mini guns he never actually uses in the show.  Also, he has a robot dog that assists him in these sequences that doesn't exist in the show.  But he he has probably the best overall depiction, inaccurate as it is.

Poor Dean and Fletcher both get it pretty bad.  Both are airbrushed all to hell and body builder body doubles are composted in as much as possible.  This has the result of making them look like they're played by twins.  It's also clear the network doesn't understand either character at all.

Dean is regularly depicted as charging into massive brawls bearing all kinds of prop weapons that look like sci-fi prop versions of real weapons, like some impossibly chonky bull-pup shotgun with three barrels and a chainsaw bayonet attachment.  He never seems to actually hit anyone or aim at anything, but he's constantly firing these weapons and enemies are just falling down around him.  He is show in in a single shot crossing the fingers on either hand across each other and firing a badly animated jet of fire at a legion of black clad soldiers, who never show up in the show either.

If that wasn't bad enough Fletcher gets it worse, the network really doesn't understand his character at all.  He gets one shot where he drives into the frame and does a dramatic drift in an expensive sports car with a sparkly pearl white paintjob.  This car never appears in the show.  Otherwise, he appears at every transition since every transition is an explosion with Fletcher in the foreground.  In these shots he has a very expensive laptop or mobile device with the brand and logo clearly visible (it depends on who paid the most), implying he somehow caused the explosion by hacking, though this technology does not exist in the show and it also makes no sense whatsoever.

And that's all you see of these three, they only exist to fight and kill and drive fast cars and make things explode.  There is nothing else.

Kelly doesn't fare any better though.  They get a model with the same hair color to stand in for her, but it's obvious the model has no idea how to hold the prop sword much less swing it convincingly.  In each shot the model's hair is immaculate and she's been lightly coated in baby oil.  Kelly gets an action shot near the start that depicts all the other characters pinned down, and she single handedly saves them effortlessly with fight choreography that's even worse than Dean's, randomly flailing the sword as CGI robots are torn to shreds (the network only ever lets Kelly kill robots because they can't show blood).  She gets one more action scene where a random raider grabs her forearm and she falls helpless like he has the strength of a thousand gorillas.

Every other time we see her, she's posing for the camera with the sword:  in one shot she's in her underwear, in another she's lying suggestively on the hood of the car Fletcher drove in on, etc.    Also somewhere in the middle of all of this, Kelly and every other female character (they only get this one appearance and it's hard to tell who is supposed to be who because they use models as stand ins) are in wet bikinis washing the Dog and the shot cuts away just after Kelly makes eye contact with another of the women who fans think is supposed to be Delilah and it looks like they are about to kiss each other.  Naturally absolutely none of this is in the show.

I was looking for a more "rock" or "metal" version of this https://youtu.be/wum6WIeJw_M which apparently doesn't exist, and that's the closest I could find.

I'm unsure about visuals, but I could see it being done in the style where they generally just use the instrumental and then the pertinent bits of the chorus.

Harry - I'm so happy to know there is a band that specializes in theme songs for shows that don't exist.  I'm not surprised they exist, but very happy to know that they do.  And so fitting. Good visual accompaniment too! Fantastic. Take your extra chip, sah.

Kelly - I dig both choices, but wow what different feels.  The visuals in the first are spot on and great stuff.  Instantly see it.  The second, I can picture it just as well and it made me hate those imaginary producers.  I assume the network is Fox and that they will air the episodes out of order, then cancel it 5 episodes in for poor ratings.  Still only get one chip though, overachiever.

Fletcher - I did not know that song!  I really like it.

I will give Dean till Thursday and hope he manages to find the time to join in if he wishes to.

In the mean time, I'm not really in the contest, but this was the song that inspired the contest:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoRkntoHkIE

Harry behind the wheel, Kelly in the shotgun seat, Fletcher and Dean in the back of the cab.  Song crackles in through the radio.  Everyone calmly nodding or tapping along to the beat while staring disinterestedly out of windows or do other mundane tasks...  very sedate... with the apocalyptic landscape rolling by outside.

When the chorus cuts in, fast cut to scenes of high octane action and violence timed to the gentle music.

Then back to the calm, bored cab scene with everyone nodding along to the song again as the Dog rolls on down the highway...

It's not that the shows don't exist, it's that this group specializes in music for tv and movie trailers, as well as creating collections of sound effects and audio cues and other bits of sound design. They aren't the only group around that do this, either -- there actually quite a few groups who work in this space. Hollywood is a hungry beast.

Don't wait for me.  Would have no clue anyway.  I'm partially tone deaf and so music really has no bearing on my life.  Outside of stuff before the 90s, I don't know it all.  I only know the earlier times as could still hear normally (even then I wasn't exactly a music buff).

Haha, yes, this exactly

They badly produce and mismanage and mis-promote it without watching as much as single episode and then wonder why it fails

Dean!  Totally understand and just thought it would be fun.

Make your votes for the intro theme you liked best!  And, with permission, I'll add it to the Game Description.  Remember, your vote grants a creative player a Blue Chip!

In the event of a tie, I will do my best impression of Greg Davies and just Taskmaster the results.  If you don't understand this Taskmaster bit, sort your life out.

Also!  Everyone been able to make their character Advance?  Any changes to note?  Any equipment you feel that they might have picked up in Lockesburg?  Those folk would be willing to part, within reason, with quite a lot for you Big Damn Heroes.

I certainly hope everything is straightened because the next episode starts THIS WEEKEND.  Be there!

Character sheet is updated as far as the advancement goes.

If anyone needs stuff there's probably enough scrap and such in Lockesburg that Fletcher could make it if nothing else.

I seem to remember someone bringing up suggestions at some point (some talk of a shield maybe?).

For Fletcher, I'd like to expand his improvised armor to cover additional locations.

As for a vote, like Kelly mentioned, I think Harry gets it.

I have been as well, Dean.  And it will happen again!

No worries.

I'm good with calling it for Harry as well!  Take your Blue Chip and thanks for educating us on the unsung musical workhorses of Hollywood behind the scenes.  A creative job that I had never really thought about.

Also, I am great with Kelly gaining a Fletcher-craft Shield.

Sweet! So that means I start with 5 chips total, then? the 3 normal, the extra draw from the description, and the blue from winning the contest?

Chip Rolls: 12:18, Today: Rusty Harry rolled 5,5,9,23 using d36,d36,d36,d36, rerolling max ((5,5,9,23)).

Also, permission granted to use the description I came up with (with any edits you feel necessary to make) for the game intro.

I suppose it's too much to hope there's any replacement ammo to be scrounged up for the Ma Deuce, but I'd like to acquire some if available.

Harry! - Yes!  Five chips.

As for .50 Cal ammo...  You also have the battlefield site that could be scrounged...  TexArcana support... and the grateful citizens of Lockesburg.

Anyone who wishes can roll Scrounging at a +2!  If you get a Raise you get a scrounging Draw.  One of those Draws can be exchanged a King of Clubs IE 3d12 .50 Cal rounds.

But wait!  There's more!

I am going to give that Supply stuff a good solid try this time.  There should be more travel and tribulation this time.  Given all the battle and damage, but also the grateful folk of Lockesburg....  I am thinking everyone starts this Episode with their Smarts die in Personal Supply before you guys roll that Scavenging.

Kelly - D6 Supply
Harry - D8 Supply
Fletcher - D8 Supply
Dean - D8 Supply
The Dog - D8 Supply

Would you guys like to track this on your sheets separately or track it separately on the Dog info tracker?

When you make that Scavenging Roll, a Success raises your Supply Die by 1 (Or two in Fletcher's case).  A Raise, let's you draw the special scavenging card.  You can voluntarily drop your Supply die to boost someone else's.  Sharing is caring.

You can also use Survival skills out in the wilds to add to Supply.

We also had a Supply Cache (Currently at 6) on the Dog of Extra Supplies that had been built up.  These are where we'll mark out for Prudence and Crowboy's (and any other Extras that may tagalong) Supply usage.  One each at every travel Supply Check.  You can also use the extra Supplies to offset losses.  Or to boost your Supply Die for whatever reason you might need.

I also wanted to fix the Black Dog's Cargo!

Here's the current list that is WAY out of date.

-Two "new"-made fighting spears
-Two salvaged Pre-war or "new"-make knives
-Three Machetes

-.50 Cal Machinegun - 3 Rounds
-Two Hunting Rifles (.30-06) - 10 Rounds
-.45 Police Pistol - Empty (30 Rounds of .45 were Found, Del claimed some?)
-.38 Revolver - 4 Rounds
-.22 Target Pistol - 36 Rounds
-SA Commando SMG - 37 Rounds (Damaged Goods) (Harry Claimed)
-Ruger Redhawk Pistol - 0 Rounds (Damaged Goods; in the Cab) (Kelly Claimed)
-Tokarev Machine Pistol (9mm) - 15 Rounds

-One relatively undamaged dirtbike: half tank of spook juice.
-One wrecked, but salvageable dirtbike: less than a quarter tank.

WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO DO:

-All the salvaged melee weapons were handed off to Lockesburgers.

-We established there was no more .50 Cal ammo. YET.

-One Fletcher-refurbished Dirtbike with a full tank.

-DEAN - I believe he gets a Hunting Rifle (with 10 rounds) and he claimed the Tokarev (We'll say 7 rounds left)

-HARRY - I believe he claimed the SA Commando SMG (Damaged Goods) (say 20 rounds left)

-KELLY - I believe she claimed the Ruger Redhawk (Damaged Goods) (4 Rounds now, in trade for some of the other weapons)

Mark those on your sheets and I'll clear out the cargo inventory.  The rest of the pistols and such went to Lockesburg in one way or another.

In reply to Prospector (msg # 31):

So, trying the Supply check to see if I can get more ammo just through trade (I think that's what it's supposed to represent? Not sure).

14:14, Today: Rusty Harry rolled 3,1 using d8,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 3,1.  Personal Supply roll.

That's a no on that. Supply reduced to d6.

So going Scavenging for a bit in the ruins. Before I do, doing the housekeeping:

quote:
-HARRY - I believe he claimed the SA Commando SMG (Damaged Goods) (say 20 rounds left)

I did, indeed. I have no issue with offloading the melee weapons.

quote:
Would you guys like to track this on your sheets separately or

...or what? if you're suggesting keeping the Personal Supply as part of the stats concerning The Dog, I'd be fine with that, rather than tracking it separately.

Anyhoo, trying the Scavenging Roll (Notice, +2 bonus from GM)

14:23, Today: Rusty Harry rolled 3,9 using d8+2,d6+2, rerolling max with rolls of 1,(6+1)7. Scavenging

That's a raise. So I get back up to d8 Supply, and the 3d12 ammo for the Ma Deuce, yes?

Here's what we get for Ammo:

14:26, Today: Rusty Harry rolled 13 using 3d12 with rolls of 3,7,3.  Ammo count.

Not great, but good enough for some 3RBs if we face down another thing that needs Heavy Weapons to hurt.
