Hey everyone! So yeah, to ease strain on poor, beleagued Lorraine, some of you get to be twins or triplets! Let me know here or in the PMs who wants to be a twin. :)

Hello everyone. I'm planning to be one of the middle set, 24-ish or so. Will have more details and such when I nail down the character a bit.

I posted the following description for Erica, but I emphasize that it's TENTATIVE: I am happy to adjust her to make room for everyone else's preferences.

<<
Erica is 26 years old, the oldest daughter of Corwin and Lorraine.  She's 5'9" with an athletic build, and has her father's black hair and green eyes.  She's not always talkative, but she can be charming whenever she wants to; she's a good actress and will be a good diplomat.  (Corwin has been heard to say that she's politician like her namesake.)  She prefers to be everyone's friend, though she won't bend over backwards to do it.  She's often curious but tends to study widely rather than deeply.  She enjoys swashbuckling in Shadows where she knows she can get away with style over substance.

Her colors are green and black; her device is an upright sword with broad feathered wings, black against a green field
>>

Also: I tend to have time on my hands (I'm disabled), so I welcome PMs from anyone who would like to create shared backstory with Erica.

Also also: Mr GM sir, how are we handling Trump decks?  Have Corwin and/or Oriana created enough for everyone?  Or are we begging a PC Trump artist to splurge on Named and Numbered?

Heya!

I recall that Marian had petitioned to be eldest. Unless, that is, you two were twins and willing to share that distinction? :)

As for Trumps well. Merlin taught Oriana, and she created the Trumps for the family. Just to make it easier, I'll give her Named and Numbered so she can make enough decks for everyone and have a few spares in the Castle Camelot and Castle Tolemac in Nolava. :)

Marian is welcome to it :), unless it ends up making better sense for us to be twins.

PS: Yay free Trump decks!  Thanks!

At what age(s) were we allowed to walk the Pattern?  (Was it the same age for everyone, or did Corwin make individual judgments?)

I think Corwin would make individual judgment calls instead of setting a blanket age. Some kids mature faster than others.

Erica was probably ready earlier than average, but would that mean she was ready at 17? 19? ??  How old was Ori when she Walked?

I suppose that I am the last to make an introduction... Greetings hooomans, I am Thor, the all-wise Owl.  The Avatar of all Owls throughout Avalon and Shadow alike.  I accept morsels of raw meat as homage from those that seek my favor.

I've decided that I my preference would be the twin of the youngest girl in the family.  The youngest boy, who has always been ok with the girls dressing him up like a doll when they were younger, to the point that he always felt like he was "one of the girls" (not because he's gay, he's not, it just fits into his imagery of the character).  He's young enough that he's not yet walked the Pattern, but has always had an interest in changing who he is, and how he looks.  (As family, you would know that he's focused on Shape Shifting rather than Pattern, and the owl is his creation.).

So welcome again to all the new faces :) As our Narrator mentioned, I've asked to be the eldest sibling.   As such, I'd have probably helped teach some of the younger siblings and may have gotten into trouble (doubtlessly) with some of the older siblings.   I'd be keen to work in some shared background with you all -so if you're up for it, PM me please.

PS - I've an updated description if folk are interested.

So for my own education, what are the ages of people? Oriana is 30, but she's not a child of Corwin and Lorraine. She's Merlin and Coral's daughter. Corwin met Lorraine four years into his reign in Avalon, so that gives a range of 26 years for your characters to all be born.

I'm still sketchy on the timeline, so let's start assembling a calendar.  If Corwin carving his Pattern is Year 0, you're saying that Lorraine became Empress in Year 4?  And it's now Year 30?  That means Marian is 25, give or take a birthday, so Erica is younger than I guessed (which is fine), and I think Tamlin might have to be also.  We haven't heard from Tara at all yet (naughty naughty), but unless she wants to mess everything else up, Caitriona is the youngest and I guess Kierahn wants to be her twin?  So:

0: Corwin carves the Pattern.
4: Lorraine becomes Empress.
5: Marian born.
6: Erica born.
7: Geoffrey born.
8: Tamlin born.
?: Tara born.
~13: Caitriona and Kierahn born.
30: Now.

So that's draft #1; what needs or wants fixing?

Marian could have been born the same year as Lorraine becoming queen, I guess... but yeah, Kierahn and Caitriona are twins. He beat me out of the womb by 14 and 1/2 minutes... not even a whole quarter hour!

Oh, and unless the years need to be shifted around to account for everyone, I think that we would have been born about 14, give or take the time of year.

Tara wasn't posting because she was waffling on a name change and didn't want to confuse anyone.  :)  She's named Branwen now.

I'm fine with the timeline as written, though I suspect there might be more time between year 0 and year 4.  Corwin spent however many years locked up in Chaos after he drew his Pattern, he didn't draw it and then start ruling in Avalon right away.

Just because Corwin was years in Chaos doesn't mean Avalon was going at the same speed. He may have kept things on his Pattern extremely slow until he could get there full time.

Sure, if he had control over it from that far away, or had control over it at all, really.  He sort of just drew the thing and then immediately never saw it again until from his perspective several years had elapsed.  Could be either way, it's just a thing the GM might want to clarify.

Though I'd be curious, if there was a sort of "pre-regnum" interval where Avalon existed but before Corwin got back around to visiting it and ruling it, what it would have been like during that time.

Looks fine. What's the age of majority in Avalon and when would normal people be expected to have big events (marriage, starting apprenticeship, eligible for conscription and the like)?

That's a good point. Time flows would be different.

I picture it as something like this. Corwin makes the new Pattern right near the end of the Patternfall War, meets Merlin for the first time and tells him his story. At some point thereafter he gets grabbed by Dara and locked away. Avalon was recreated from Corwin's heart at the same time he made the new Pattern, and ruled by a council of the Knights of the Round Table, all of whom believed that Corwin was their rightful king who would return one day.

Corwin escapes Dara's trap when the ghost created by his Pattern switches places with the real deal. The pattern ghost then dissipates after Corwin has had time enough to escape to his universe. Corwin comes to Avalon, discovers that it's the first Shadow of his new reality, and claims his throne as King. That's Year 0. Because time in Chaos and Avalon are different, years passed for Corwin while imprisoned while time passed in Avalon at a different rate.

Age of majority in Avalon is 16, since life expectancy is a lot shorter in a medieval realm. Major life events are marriage, apprenticeship, birth of a child, death of a loved one, and death.

Bah, 7th birth, by then they practically fall out... "Oh... oh... here he comes!  There he is, oh wait, something else also fell out...".   :P
