 Indeed!

Sorry I've been a tad absent. Been dying of man-flu for the past few days.

Don't worry about it.

Going to write up the new thread now. Sorry it's so late I have just got back from a sporting event.

Yes I like sports, just revoke my nerd credentials now...

So exactly how many guns are we going to buy? And how many rounds of ammo? I can definitely afford the one inchers, though I'm not sure how the airship crew would feel about us just slapping them on

Arthur has not let on yet that he has Maxim Quick Firing 1-pounder pom pom and mount as well as ammunition for it and a Maxim MG with mount. I will let you know now should it make a difference in what armaments other decide to purchase.

Yeah if you brought them you would need to smuggle them aboard as this is simply a merchant ship getting you to Karkarham!

I gave final decision on what weaponry you require to Stark. Overall unless you bring heavy weaponry I don't think it will make a big difference.

Also I assume you are going to train the Martians to act as some form of guerrilla force rather than take the Belgians head on. Which would probably make heavy weaponry a lot less useful.

Though it really is up to you guys.

In reply to GM (msg # 102):

I was thinking of the armament needed our own craft that we purchase in Karkarham.

Re: The Gentlemen's Club - OOC Thread
Yeah, I figured we'd shape them up into more skirmishers than line infantry.

And I think it was less us buying our own airship than booking passage on one--they're pretty expensive

In reply to Arnold Putnam (msg # 105):

I thought it was passage to Karkarham and then we were purchasing our own ship to move the armaments. Is that not correct ?

Re: The Gentlemen's Club - OOC Thread

That is indeed correct, as is the intention to train skirmishers at the far end.

 As for weapons...

Deployment for a soldier with a magazine-fed bolt-action rifle's around a hundred fifty rounds per. I'd say we might well want to get up in that vicinity, even though we'll be taking single-shot breech loaders.

Add a small number of good modern rifles for a cadre of double-hard bastards, or at least our own crew. They'll need easily double that ammunition or more.

Throw in the rifling bench and minie ball moulds so we can improvise local weapons at need.

Then we need weapons for the ship - the big pom-pom's a damn' good start.

Re: The Gentlemen's Club - OOC Thread
So how does a hundred breech loaders and ten bold action rifles, with a hundred rounds ammunition for each, sound? I just need to know how much money I'm spending, or I can just mark it down as "assorted weapons and ammo" and deduct a few hundred pounds.

Re: The Gentlemen's Club - OOC Thread
Gents, please pardon this, but I need to point this out and for the last time, The bolt action rifle proposed is state of the art for the British army in 1889, It has been in service less then five years. If the Raj of Mars does not care if we have obvious British connections, all fine and good. But if our merry band wants to obscure the British connection, Martini Henry rifle is a good weapon and they are all over the place. Could be purchased anywhere.

Ok, I had my say and will not bring it up again. Thank you for hearing me out.

Re: The Gentlemen's Club - OOC Thread

 Oh good grief, I wasn't proposing Lee-Metfords!

Just a standard bolt-action jobbie like the Lebel, the Mauser 1871 or even the Manlicher 1886... But yes, a very cogent point.

Re: The Gentlemen's Club - OOC Thread

Not at all, that's the job of a sergeant... I'm minded of the apocryphal story that a test for officers consisted of the question 'how do you perform task X', to which the accurate answer is some long-winded essay but the correct answer was 'Sergeant, do X' and perhaps some pointing. ^_^
