One page after the YT-1300 is the YT-2400 which meets your qualifications, and is in your price range, and may be sufficiently not-the-Falcon to avert certain disaster.

Each of the other books has smaller ships which may be suitable as well.

You know, with all the information there is to keep track of in this system, I'm surprised nobody ever came up with anything along the lines of, I don't know...

some sort of ...like...sheet, thing?  Where you can write down...all the details...of...your...character?  *shrugs, glances at her character details tab, glances at the GM*  Totally weird concept, right?  I think we're just supposed to memorize stuff :)

:P

I tend to not use the Character Sheet section of the Details page for my games. Especially in games like Edge of the Empire, where transparency is more important than in D&D style games where you can generally keep your sheet private and still work well as a team, I encourage the use of the Character Description to store your character sheet information.

Well, for starting ships I can offer a few suggestions.

Wayfarer-class medium transport from the dawn of rebellion book. Plenty of space for crew and passengers, plus cargo capacity. Not fancy but in the right price range.

Incom A-36 Pathfinder scout from Enter the Unknown. $ crew and 4 passengers but almost no cargo. Good scout though.

Ghtroc 720 Light Freighter also from Enter the Unknown, 2 crew and 10 passengers, plenty of cargo, tough as can be and handles like a brick.  :)

E-9 Explorer, a long ranged scout, 4 crew and 4 passengers, a small cargo hold, also from Enter the Unknown.

I personally like them all.

All the Star Wars games I've played, and not once have I crewed the Ghtroc. Wanna paint one blue and call it the Hidden Halfshell. Maybe paint "Cowab'unga" on the side. That's Vocce for "victory from shadow".

In all seriousness, those are all good ships. I've had my eyes on the Nova Courier, Starlight-Class, and the YT-2400 too. I was originally thinking about the HWK-1000, but it's a tight squeeze for everyone, and I'm not sure flying a ship that's supposed to have never seen production is appropriately low-profile, but then I shouldn't assume that's such common knowledge in a galaxy of millions of starship designs.

Also, I've listed in the game system thread that because we have a party of 6, everyone will start with a base of 5 Obligation.

The Starlight-Class looks the coolest. Ideally we don't pick a flying brick but if we do I'll make it purr.

I agree. It's been one of my favorite ships for a long time now. My only concern is... why the heck does it have such a weird price? Everything else in the game is stuff like 100,000, 90,000, 120,000. Then you've got the Starlight-class at 69,995. ??? Bonkers.

Oh, for those of you not quite settled on a backstory, feel free to discuss that sort of thing here. You might be able to develop ties with other PCs and create shared NPCs, rather than feeling like you need to make your heroes in a vacuum.

So let me see if I have things right so far.

Bril - A smuggler pilot, stranded on the planet after a deal went south.
Bryce - A gunslinger cop, formerly a criminal.
EnygmaSoul - An intellectual slicer.
Finlos - I like that wookiee. Iffy between Bodyguard or Marauder build, right?
Kra - Jawa mechanic.
seraphmoon - Twi'lek falcon-puncher.

Bril and Bryce pose a challenge: why is the cop working with the criminal instead of turning him in?

If seraphmoon would like to do a Twi'lek Marauder for fisticuffs, Finlos might consider leaning toward the Bodyguard and be our ranged heavy. In a world of blasters, it helps to have the biggest one. (I mean, long as you can take it places with you, and not have guys like Bryce stopping you all the time to see your license.)

What's Kra doing so far from home? And has this Jawa learned to speak Basic, or do we need a translator droid (which would need to have olfactory sensors, as half the Jawa language relies on pheromone control)?

As a tinkerer Kra could totally have built his own translator droid :P

Bril is only a petty crook at this point. His one smuggling job fell through so he's not even really a smuggler yet. That being said, necessity makes for strange bedfellows?

And I can't be the only crook! Slicing has got to lean more towards the illegal side of the spectrum and honestly how useful are muscly types that don't get their hands a little dirty from time to time?

EDIT: Also I think I've got my sheet all done and up. The background is pretty barebones still so I'll probably add more specifics down the road.

Oh, I didn't mean to imply that you're the only crook, just the only one who's given me a solid backstory involving your life of crime yet. However brief that chapter of your life may have been so far. :P

But Bryce has Dutybound as an Obligation, and I'm taking that to mean things will go very badly if he doesn't turn you, in particular, in. Because of the having a solid backstory re: your life of crime and such.

In reply to The Force (msg # 31):

At this point I'm think I'm fairly settled on the Marauder.

Ladies and Gentlemen, meet Iaarkahr, Wookiee Marauder extraordinaire.

Larger and bulkier than most wookiees, which is saying a lot, Iaarkahr is sparsely equipped yet still found the funds to purchase and wield a vibro-axe taller than most humans.  He is one of the friendliest Wookiees you will ever meet but he sees combat as a personal challenge where he aims to be the best.  So far, he is not wrong.

There's more, but it's late here and I really should get some sleep.

Hmmmm, language wise it would be easier to just know basic; on the other hand having a translator droid gives us an NPC to play off of and would be useful with Iaarkahr around. I doubt we all speak wookie and jawa after all. I am going to vote droid. And of course he would build or repurpose the droid. The built in slicing tools and lockpicks? From a previous owner.

As for why and how I left Tatooine, that is a combination of several things. Kra has a strong sense of wanderlust and curiosity about what is 'out there' which has made him a touch more adventurous than the average. In addition he is inclined to actually try and build and improve the items he scavenges, not just repaint and sell them. He is driven to create and improve. That made him more likely to wonder and be useful enough to find a ride to do so.

That is the basics.  :)

Well, law enforcement work with Criminal Informants quite often to start.  Many times they will stand on the sidelines while a minor crime is committed so that a larger enterprise can be stopped.  Also I would imagine if his law enforcement group was in charge of patrolling an entire sector they are given a bit of leeway and discretion in their operation.  So unless one of the party members came up on a warrant that was served to him, I don't think there would be much of a problem.  Pretty much like having a Bounty Hunter in the party if you think about it because anybody's name can come up on that Bounty Hunter's list.

I want to say if you both want like the hand-to-hand sort but want different specializations, I think the Bounty Hunter Gadgeeter has a lot of close up Talents like Stunning Blow, Disorient and Point Blank.  Granted the Marauder is the undisputed champ of melee, but it's a thought.

At the same time one of the great things in this system is the ability for each character to be entirely different from each other despite being of the same line.

What kind of droid were you thinking of? Something akin to one of the roughly humanoid 3PO-style units, or something more miniaturized, similar to the M-TD series of belt-clippable translators?

Any idea how he got away from Tatooine? How does his clan feel about his departure? How does he feel?

That's true! I was envisioning Bryce as being local police, at least to start. It might be easiest having him either as a Sector Ranger or as having been deputized by one already: "You're a criminal? And you aren't in jail already? Perfect, I need your skills. Welcome to law enforcement."

Gives him license to go offworld already, rather than needing to get permission later on. Plus it means traveling with a crowd like this is just part of the job, rather than a truly unusual circumstance. What do you think?

Seraphmoon's initial character pitch was for a twi'lek Marauder with a dip into Doctor for Pressure Points, to really dish out the Strain. To get all mechanical, that'd be 30 XP to grab Doctor, then 40 XP to buy down the tree to Pressure Points, plus extra XP to beef up the Medicine skill for bonus damage. Going Gadgeteer would let you skip the XP spend for a second specialization and only take 25 XP to hit Stunning Blows, saving 45 XP for other things.

Of course, you could take that 45 XP and spend 30 to dip into Marauder, then start taking Talents from there to beef up your punching. (Or start Marauder and dip into Gadgeteer for the same deal as you would with Doctor, but skipping the Medicine skill.) I rather like Gadgeteer because my person-punchers tend to pack shock gloves. :D

That said, yeah, I see no reason you can't both go Marauder and contribute plenty of goodness to the group. And by "goodness" I mean "very sad people who formerly wanted to kill your squishy friends."

If you do both go Marauder one having a bit of a doctor flair would be very distinctive.
