Re: OOC Cantina

Just a couple of ideas to toss around.  First could say the Ranger that recruited him is an alien of some sort.  For some reason Kel Dor comes to mind.

Perhaps he was recruited for the gun fight, but when the authorities came they still arrested him anyway due to his background.  The Ranger and the Chief came in to push him toward helping on this case due to his underworld connections and his usefulness at the town.

Re: OOC Cantina

Ooo. So maybe instead of Bril and company having gotten away, they're the ones who got arrested, and now the whole group is conscripted by to deal with the problem together.

Once I get settled Obligation numbers from everyone, and a name and general identity from seraphmoon, I think it'll be time to post the opening scene.

For those interested, I've found a whole bunch of neat images that could be used as character art, particularly for Iaarkahr and seraph's brawler. (Iaarkahr's inventory perked my interest in looking up an armored wookiee. Turns out there's a bunch.)

Kra, wanna post up your character sheet to your Character Description? And how's everyone feeling about their sheets so far? Are any of them done and ready to go?

Bril isn't gonna like being conscripted but I'm fine with it. And I think mine sheet done and ready to go.

Re: OOC Cantina

I'm doing petty good, myself. Looks like things on my end are coming together, been brushing up on the rules and GM techniques specific to this game. It's been about two weeks since we heard from half the cast, though. When I was talking about maintaining a relaxed posting rate, I didn't quite mean encased in carbonite. :P

Kra, seraph, V, you three still with us?

Re: OOC Cantina

I've gotten word from seraph that life is simply very busy at the moment, but now our twi'lek brawler has a name: Odol Giruz! It's been two weeks now since the last login of our jawa or elomin, and two days since I sent PMs hoping to get their attention. I'm concerned now, but at the very least we have a party of four. Hopefully Odol can find some free time and we can figure out some more about the character.

I'd be tempted to start with just the three of us here, though it would take some adjusting Obligation (since I was assuming a party of 6 when I said everyone starts with 5. If you start with 10, you'll be able to take beefier options if you choose to take more obligation (since you can never more than double your starting amount).

Re: OOC Cantina

Alright, so it's looking like I should prepare to begin with just the three of us already ready to go, before we lose so much momentum this game dies before it begins. Odol and the others can join us later, when they're ready. Bryce, if you could fill in your total/remaining XP and your Defenses, and Bril, if you could put in your remaining XP as well, I think that'll be all we need.

If anyone has experience with this, please let me know, but my understanding is that characters with differing XP totals, as in characters coming in later than everyone else, aren't hindered in their ability to contribute to the group and have a good time compared to people who've been gaining XP longer. With that in mind, I'm considering two options: simply having people gain XP for what they participate in, or giving acquired group XP to everyone regardless of whether they join the group later. I'm leaning toward the first; while when Odol and the other two are able to make it, they'll end up with lower XP than everyone else, it'll be as much as they got for popping in late. On the other hand, I don't want them to feel less part of the group. Any thoughts?

Re: OOC Cantina

That'll work for me! I vote for everyone getting XP individually and I added a box for the unspent XP that I don't have.

Re: OOC Cantina

The game honestly lends itself well to unbalanced xp.  So it shouldn't be a problem to introduce people at a reduced xp.  I mean obviously if we are say Knight level and they are starting there will be issues, but small increments aren't a problem from my experience.

I also need to add in my two talents.  So I'll get on that.

Re: OOC Cantina

I'm in favour of individual xp.

And I agree with Bryce in that the game is flexible enough that slightly different xp levels aren't too much of a problem.  Something I have noticed is that all minions/rivals/nemesis are -not- created equal which may cause problems if the xp difference is too great.

Re: OOC Cantina

With this in mind, I've opened up the first thread! The other players can join us when they're ready. I'll track the XP of people based on presence. Should be easy enough for anyone coming in late to still be part of things.

I was reading EotE anecdotes on various forums, and one redditor was talking about having been in a game where some characters had 150 XP, and others had over 1000, and no one felt left behind. I'm taking that as a pretty positive sign that this won't go too badly.

Sorry I didn't get anything done last night.  Spent the night in the ER with my son having an asthma attack.  Will try for something today.  Once again my apologies.

Yeah, no need to apologize for emergency stuff. Just if you were mean to someone's mom or something like that. Take what time you need, and RL comes first.

Re: OOC Cantina

Doing alright, Bryce? You're up next. All eyes are on you. You have vital choices to make. The entire fate of the planet rides on your shoulders. Without your clear ability to make snap decisions that don't get the group killed, everyone will die a horrible, painful death.

No pressure. :D

(Also, to be clear, none of the PCs are in life-threatening danger at the moment. The Fines family don't want to kill Bryce because he's a family member, and they want to bring in Bril and Iaar as undamaged as possible for their processing. Don't worry, everybody, I set things up so you won't die immediately!)

Re: OOC Cantina

Well that's disheartening. Bryce hasn't logged in for about a week, either. So it looks like just the three of us. What do you think? Proceed with just you two, or should I advertise for more players and try again?

Re: OOC Cantina

Ideally, I'd like to proceed with just the two of us while you get a few new players. If they can jump into what we've got going on as soon as their characters are done it'd probably retain players a little better.

Re: OOC Cantina

Alright, I'll be in a position to keep us moving soon, and I've also found some friends in another Star Wars game who've shown interest in joining us here. In the meantime, I have removed the three players who've been gone more than two weeks, and put their characters onto myself so their data is saved in case they come back. I'm just not at my computer for the moment, so moving forward could be troublesome. I'll see if I can find the time while here, but can't make promises tonight.

Hello, everyone! I'll be making a character and joining you, although I'll be slow until Monday because I have a wedding to go to this weekend. Some of you may have known me as Jirana Narisha, a character I played (briefly) in a couple of Force and Destiny games that never got far.

Re: OOC Cantina

Welcome to the game! Unfortunately I haven't been involved in any Force & Destiny games, just several Edge of the Empire and one Age of Rebellion thusfar. I'm working my way towards the Force end of the spectrum.

And no worries about the wedding adventure! Those are pretty important to people, from my understanding. :P
