S1E2 - First Impressions

What Zindra found was that CEC ship models had well earned their reputation for being mechanic-friendly. Access panels were easy to remove and replace, wiring and components were spaced out well enough to manipulate without much trouble and to see what she was doing, things were actually labeled, and in Basic, no less. It was going to be a breeze to get to know this ship.

[Zindra has 4B to use on rolls regarding this vessel, spent however she likes. Think of them like bonus dice you can drop into a roll, and I'll even let you add them in after seeing a result if you don't like it.]

S1E2 - First Impressions

"Actually, yes.  I am lightly wounded from a fight earlier.  If you could heal me..." he responds to the medic droid.

Once that is finished, Iaarkahr toggles the ship-wide communicator, "In typical Jalmac style, we weren't actually crew, just 'passengers'.  He probably thought he could get away with charging us for working for him somehow.  All that to say that the droid doesn't consider us qualified to know what's in this crate so is anyone able to, um, persuade this droid that we are, in fact, crew?"

"Right..." Bril responded to the droid as he listed to Iaarkahr over the comms.

Pinching the bridge of his nose, Bril closed his eyes in thought for a moment before speaking to the droid again, "Captain Jalmac was called away on urgent business. He outsourced this run to me but gave little instruction. I am temporarily Acting Captain, what do I need to do to for you to follow my instructions?"

It seemed doubtful that Bril's lie would affect the droid but maybe it would give them an idea of how the little impromptu mutiny could fully commandeer The Silver Thorn.

"I'm more a fix-em type of girl than a sweet talker" Zindra admitted in response. "On the bright side, the ship looks, well, shipshape. And it should be all very easy to maintain."

The pilot droid turned to face Bril again, giving a genial nod as he responded

"Acting Captain? All you'll need to do is set the new crew information into the ship registry and you'll be all set! That'll involve some paperwork at a port, and we've a few set as potential destinations as it stands anyway, so I'm sure you won't have issues for long, sir!"

The medical droid gave a calm acknowledgement of Iaarkahr's request and quickly took to an examination, cleaning and dressing the wound. Some local anesthetic was involved, and it wasn't long at all before the wookiee felt much better. The stress from the day's adventures was already starting to melt away.

"Good to know, good to know." Bril responded to the droid and began to make his way out of the cockpit, "Uh, thanks for the info."

It didn't take Bril long to find the rest of the crew in the med bay, "According to the droid piloting this thing, all we'd need to do is get our names added the the ship's crew registry and they'll listen to us. It just takes some paperwork at a spaceport."

Looking over at their newest newest addition, Bril asked, "Any chance you know how to skip all the paperwork and make that happen, Zindra?"

Re: S1E2 - First Impressions

The pilot's chipper voice opened up on the ship's intercom.

"Hellooooo sentients! I'm RX-14, your pilot this solar cycle, and it's my pleasure to inform you that our next stop is the planet Yadolag. We should be arriving in about two standard days, and I'll make sure we arrive safe, sound, and most importantly, timely. We're a business ship, after all, and time is credits! Right?"

"Please stop." Apparently the medical droid wasn't as excited about having access to an intercom system as RX-14 was.

[We've got some in-game downtime, so if there was anything you wanted to take care of, this is that opportunity! After any doing things or confirmation of being ready to go, we'll hit orbit around our destination and get to see where that golden exclamation point of Main Quest goodness leads us. :D]

Re: S1E2 - First Impressions

"It's not important if you can't," Bril smiled easily, "We'll just grease the right palms when we get to Yadolag and it'll smooth sailing from there."

Yawning, Bril stretched his arms high into the air, "I'm spent though. Getting in a speeder chase with the cops'll do that to you. I'm gonna get a nap."

The twi'lek's eyes were already looking droopy as he made his way to the ladderwell down to the bunks on the lower deck. Bril's head disappeared for half a second before popping back up, "Let's play some holochess later though, sounds like we've got some time to kill."

After the offer to game, Bril headed straight for the bunk he'd claimed on their initial voyage.

OOC: I don't think Bril's got anything to do during the downtime besides resting up to prepare for the next bit of chaos. He'd just play holochess with any willing opponents and hang out in the cockpit to get a better feel for the Thorn's controls. Nothing too exciting.

Re: S1E2 - First Impressions

OOC: Iaarkahr will likely spend his downtime making solid weighted sticks and a training dummy and learn how to hit things even harder and he's willing to give a pointer or two to anyone interested.  Not sure if he should take Bril up on his offer of the game of holo-chess however.

He does get rested up in anticipation of his next adventure.

"Have a nice rest!" Zindra said, chipper and cheerful. "Holochess sounds nice."

"I wish I'd brought more clothing" Zindra mused. "I don't think the captain's stuff will fit me."

After moving her limited possessions in to one of the rooms, she busied herself curiously examining every aspect of the ship, and pestering the droids with questions about the ship.

Re: S1E2 - First Impressions

[Everyone recovers 4 Wounds over the course of the voyage. Normally I'd roll for the doc, but I don't wanna, so I'm just doubling natural healing. Everyone also recovers full Strain, back to 0.]

There is a flash of white light and the tone of the ship’s engines drops several octaves as the Silver Thorn emerges from hyperspace. Below lies the dark green world of Yadolag. As you work out the best way to descend to the Nebat spaceport, the slim silhouette of a starfighter bursts from hyperspace barely a kilometer from the Thorn's position. The crew has seen this craft before, as it regularly docked at Tarawa's spaceports. It belongs to a Kubaz anamed Thwheek who often runs errands for the Fines Family. The craft banks around and begins to slow, cruising toward you on an attack vector.

Over the intercom, that familiar voice plays again.

"Greetings sentients! This is your pilot speaking, and if I could ask for a hand up here, we do seem to be under attack by an unfamiliar vessel. I'm very much not a combat model, so a co-pilot would be appreciated. And if you'll notice, I have turned on the Fasten Safety Belts alert, as we could be experiencing some severe turbulence in just a few moments. Thank you."

[21:21, Today: The Force, for the NPC Thwheek, rolled 1 success, 3 advantages using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 2A.  Cool for Initiative.

Thwheek gets a 1 for Initiative. Everyone roll me Cool and we'll get an order set up. It's time for sound effects in space!]

Re: S1E2 - First Impressions

[Combat is starting at a distance of Far. Thweek's Dunelizard has a Silhouette of 3, so attacks against it will roll with 2D.]

Thweek throttled up the Dunelizard's engines on an intercept course and opened communications. A high pitched voice came through the intercom, consistent with the kubaz species.

"Greetings, unfortunate friends. I am Thweek, a humble collector of valuables. Today, you are the valuables. You are cordially requested to surrender yourselves and your ship, to be safely brought to Tarawa for summary judgment for the crime of theft of the named valuables. Failure to comply will result in further unfortunate circumstances for you."

[Thweek changes distance from Far to Near, and now it's a PC's turn. Whoever wants to fill the initiative slot may do so.]

Re: S1E2 - First Impressions

The pilot droid's message already had Bril rushing to the cockpit when the second voice began playing over the Thorn's intercom. Bril mostly tuned out the kubaz's threat, instead responding to Zindra as he hurried into the cockpit, "On our way to Tarawa I would man the other turret while Jalmac was flying. You've got my blessing if you'd like to takeover though."

Once Bril reached the cockpit, he pointed with his thumb and told the pilot droid, "Scoot!" Bril's hand were already working the Thorn's controls before his butt even hit the seat. Luckily the throttles were still full from dropping out of hyperspace, Bril pulled hard on the yoke, manuevering the Thorn into a sharp U-turn and flying directly toward the enemy spacecraft. Hopefully the rapid change of course would catch the smaller fighter off guard and they could end this fight before he had a chance to react.

OOC: Saying the Thorn's speed is 4
Maneuver: Fly (Close in on the enemy craft. Near to Close)
Action: Gain the advantage: I think it's based on Thweek's speed rather than his silhouette so let me know the roll you'd like for this.

Thwheek’s Custom G1-M4-C Dunelizard
Silhouette: 3, Speed: 4, Handling: +1, Defense: 1, Amour: 3

His current speed is 4, as he's preparing for an attack run depending on the speed and content of the Silver Thorn's response.]

It's on page 234 if you need to look it up but as long as I rolled that correctly The Silver Thorn is basically immune to the disadvantages imposed by either spacecraft using evasive maneuvers. And I'd used the advantage to give a boost to the next gunnery check.

[Welcome back! After a year-long absence, it's finally time to get things moving again! While we get our character sheets updated for Saga Edition, I'll be giving Thweek the turn he's waited so long for. And in honor of your rolls under the FFG system, you'll be getting quite a few circumstance bonuses because of all those advantages rolled.]

The Dunelizard angled its attack run as cleanly as the Silver Thorn's crew would allow and let loose a string of deadly shots! None hit their mark, and the two ships screamed past each other. Thweek let out a brief curse in his native language and started coming about for another strike.

[17:12, Today: The Force, for the NPC Thweek, rolled 8 using 1d20+6.  Attack Run -2.

Even without Bril's circumstance penalty on Thweek, he was nowhere near hitting the ship. Initiative passes on to Bril'kairn! Because Thweek just used the Attack Run action (basically Charge but in a vehicle), he now has a -2 penalty to his Reflex Defense until the start of his next turn. This is a great time to strike back! If anyone has any questions thusfar, please let me know in the OOC chat. We have a whole system to catch up on, and characters in the process of being made.
