Re: Chit Chat

Welcome Rinthor.

Yes, the sheets are locked down once they're finalised. So far they're open as we've been obtaining items and gear but they should be locked soon.

So the party is growing!

Thelonius - Hoplite (leader)
Tarrano - Rogue
Esparam - Wizard
Titus - Hoplite(?)
Eldon (NPC) - Bard
Illia - Cleric
Rinthor - Warmage?

Looks like we're going to have a spellcasting-heavy team!

Lots of firepower plus 2 heavy tanks and a sneaky rogue! In liking this mix.

Thelonius is a Imperial Hoplite

Titus is an Imperial Legionary

Both are types of hoplite.

Re: Chit Chat

So you may notice some stuff deleted.

I am cleaning up the site a little and updated the NPC list.
In respect for creative ownership I have deleted characters not in use at all and not needed for the story-line at all.

Also new players can now have intros.
We can use the ship as your intro. You can already be on the ship headed to the same region.

Re: Chit Chat

Hello

So I finished some clean up on threads. :)

Now its time to rmail those that have not logged on in more then 24 hrs. And I'm not counting the weekend so by tomorrow if I don't have any post from some players I may NPC them for a bit or if those players don't come back to post I could play them out of the adventure.

At the moment every player has a chance to post. They can interact with the dock master, now the captain or their character might want to do something at this point. If there is nothing of interest even post a thought in IC of what they are thinking like they are not interested. :)

Also a player can pick their intro at this point like already be on the deck as a passenger or on the docks looking to get on the ship.

Nice, one ,.... I don't roll int. she has a 25 Dex, that's due to the special ability of Candy gobbling. It only takes effect 2 days a year.

Re: Chit Chat

As something that may give us additional ideas on how to run our combats. I still think it should be everyone before monsters go in what ever order, monsters go, everyone after monsters go in what ever they post in.

LonePaladin:
Here's another way that might work, if you have the right players: make all the mechanical bits visible on the surface.

When a fight breaks out, go ahead and roll initiative for everyone. Unless someone has an ability that is used during an initiative roll (and to my knowledge, there aren't any in 5E), or some way to alter their roll, there's no reason to have to wait on all the players to roll their own.

Consider grouping enemies together; if there are four goblins and a bugbear, you might want to just make one roll for the goblins and have them act as a group.

Post everyone's status in a table, using the Easy Table. (You can find how to make them in the Help page.) Keep it simple, just list every combatant in order with their AC and hit points (and maybe saves) and a section for any status effects. This way everyone can see who is in what shape. Don't bother hiding monster hit points, that just slows things down.

Whenever a player posts their action, they should be able to tell success or failure immediately because you've posted all the enemies' defenses. Let the players roll everything they need to write their actions up, including enemy saving throws. Have them post the results, and copy-paste the table at the end with the effects added in.

If they do it this way, and post frequently enough that everyone can post in their initiative order, then each player knows the current state of the fight when their turn comes up, and you don't have to worry about conflicting actions or people left hanging because they don't know if they hit or not.

Re: Chit Chat

In reply to Tarrano Grazlak (msg # 176):

So I have no problem with LonePaladin recommendations.

I thinking grouping is fine. I do separate groups based on weapon types and conditions.
Showing all the stats is also ok, as long as player use the description rolls properly. I will not accept some making a roll and its low and they say it was a skill check to hind a bad roll.

I will say that there should be some order to avoid players going to far ahead in the action so I would stick to my round base set up so not to get confused in the middle of a fight.

Re: Chit Chat

In reply to Narrator (msg # 177):

Yeah it was just an idea on what additional ideas for us to try. I agree there should be some order but I really think if you have it set like this saying PC's 1,2 rolled higher Init's then Monsters 1,2, but PC's 3,4 rolled lower then Monsters 1,2, but still higher than say Monster 3.

So you would have in what ever order the players post in but still following the groupings based upon init rolls.

PC 1, PC 2
then
Monster 1,2
PC 3, PC 4,
Monster 3

Re: Chit Chat

In reply to Tarrano Grazlak (msg # 179):

Yes thats the way I like doing it.

I think It allows for more action and better roll playing.

I mean if you take out the leader in round one I don't see  the rest sticking around for the rest of the fight but a commitment it given by making the rolls, and it would be kind of cheating to say after the rolls they run. Or if the rolls where good stick around for some pot shoots.

See what I'm getting at.

Sharing info is easy, but I don't want to explain by the rules why the goblin has a 22 a/c, ALSO this gives away stuff like "he must have a magic ring or something. Which now every greedy player goes for the dead body searching it until they find what gave that goblin a 22 a/c

Re: Chit Chat

In reply to Narrator (msg # 180):

I understand that and in at a table that is much easier to "Hide" then in PbP and continue with the pace to keep things fun & interesting. The nature of PbP is why providing the basic stats is reasonable to make it so players know if they hit or if their spells work or don't work and can write it in their description of actions. And I do agree, the rolls need to be labeled properly in the actual roller so that you know what and why they are doing something.

IE: Attack Goblin A, or Spell at Goblin B/C due to AoE, etc.

Re: Chit Chat

Personally, since I know you like to provide players with challenging fights, I don't expect monsters to be simply taken from the Manual with no modification. So a 22AC goblin wouldn't necessarily make me tick. It could be it has higher than average AC, or a masterwork armour (that gets destroyed during the fight?), or it uses Combat Expertise, or whatever.

I suppose story and challenge are above rules for me, and I don't mind bending the rules to benefit the story.

As for labeling rolls, I believe so far everybody has done so, so this shouldn't be an issue.
However, I wonder if I can roll saves for monsters if I have the stats? Say Esparam casts a Colour Spray, should I wait for you to roll, or can I roll the saves? (then again, I might need to wait for you anyway to know who I (can) hit with my spells)

Re: Chit Chat

I really think we are all on the same page. There will be a fight sooner or later. I dont see an issue so far. I think as long as everyone logs in and posts timely a fight show go smooth. We we can get a round in every 1 to 2 days that and the average fight is about 5 round we should be ok.

That not to say some fights will be 1 round and others epic.

I'm still getting the feel of playing this character. At first I was going to play an entitled and arrogant warrior but I'm liking a more diplomatic way of playing him so far. Barring his youthful brashness of course.

And looking for updates

Hello

So a quick update

I had to drop one player today :(. And one player showed interest in that same type of character so I moved it over and will reach out to him so he can take over that PC. If not I will run him as an NPC, I like his design.

A second player I sent a message last week request to come back. If I don't get a reply in next 24 hrs I will drop that player also.

I will do exps over the next 24hrs and we can update sheets - and move on to the next part of this adventure.
