Character Discussion & Creation

This thread is to discussion characters and start creation on your character. All players are asked to help with any new player joining us. Players should not discuss the setting in detail or the current campaign unless its directly part of the creation process.

Once a firm decision is made on a character it should be moved to the character sheet. I will need the name chosen so I can give you the rest of the access of RPoL's wonderful hosting tools available to us here.

I have a HTML sheet that will be used. If you are not familiar with this I can simply do this for you (when done with your creation) and also help show you how to use HTML. Once this is done it will become finial for the duration of the character.

Once you have chosen a Region, House and Character Name your Discussions will be moved to that Group and you will be able to discuss more about your ideas in the House Planning thread, - So that the information can stay within your chosen group.

YOU CAN NOT PLAY EVIL CHARCTERS

The character you create most be able to join the group as a whole or in some way. At some point players may choice to venture off for a solo or separate into more then one group. This is completely OK.

Evil for now will be defined as characters with social disorders that they can not control their actions or loyal servants of some type to darkness or the underworld.

I understand this is a tuff topic so we can use the open discuss thread to work on this more and I will change this post to reflex the same.

So far one player has picked a Hoplite - Imperial Warrior
This is one of three home brew classes for the Kalamar game and players can pick from

https://sites.google.com/site/.../alt-classes/hoplite

Also if a player would like to be nobility they can take feat Noble Born free
just remember that you can not be the first born with rights to take over a house or thorne.
Also you can not pick the imperial house.

Character Discussion & Creation

In KoK players are heroes and their stats reflect the same. This means that a player is better than average and there stat should reflect that, normally a player character will have a stat no lower than 10, but to keep the game from becoming high fantasy no higher than 20.
The player has a few chooses for stats, they can use the 17 down format or roll 4d6 keeping 3 anything lower than total 10 becomes a 10. In all cases a 2 for 1 rule applies. 2 for 1 rule applies to all form of character creation to allow the PC to mold his or her character into the vision that he or she wants without mega-gaming.

What is the 2 for 1 rule?
After placing a number (regardless of which form used) to a stat, you may subtract 2 points form a stat to add 1 point to another, all racial and character creation modification cannot total greater than 20. Or go lower than 10 without OK form the GM. Racial adjustment are done last, and still follow the Min of 10 and max of 20 for any stat.

Some more info on the 17 down format.
You can also use the 2 for 1 rule.

You can place the numbers on any stat (17,16,15,14,13,12) you can make your intelligence 17 or charisma. Also you if you want an 18 just take one stat and lower by 2 and increased a different stat by 1. (This is the 2 for 1 rule).

You should make what you want. Yes, I think most will be in service or have served. To be a lawful citizen requires service and to be a noble you are required to serve so if a player takes the free feat they do have to add military serve to their history and background.

Kalmaran is a stated sub-race of human.  As far as a deity I will be worshiping the Kalmaran version of the Eternal Lantern (Dirasip).  Using the D&D conversion of Pelor for The Eternal Lantern I will be going with Healing an Sun domains.

Which brings up a problem with domain powers.  The Sun Domain allows for a greater turning of undead.  Yet the Healer does not show having the ability.

FYI

I have a info for gods from D&D to KoK on the game website

I have changed things so it reflects real world religion. In real world there were many names for the Greek gods as they were similar to the roman

ie Aries the god of war, who to the Romans was Mars

Deity known as The Eternal Lantern is Lawful Good, favored weapon is the mace, symbol of the deity is a half of a sun shining over the horizon, and divine focus is a shiny emblem bearing a half sun. Pelor is the same god in every way Pelor is like saying Jehovah to a Catholic.

there are Showing 476 names of D&D gads from several game worlds and system all can be translated to this game as needed.

I don't think it would apply at all

If he is a true hobgoblin then he wouldn't care about if the court recognized a claim in his world he has what he has earned. No one can take it away become it becomes part of his honor.

A title is actually worthless in his eyes. No one can be born with honor it has to be earned. So he would actually think that all the nobles who did not see combat are week and even in some cases lesser then him. Regardless if he is called "lord" or anything similar its meaningless.

And they run a chieftain structure so in his circle again its not relevant. BUT if he has been in human culture all his life then he may not even know his heritage so that up too you.

Re: Character Discussion & Creation

In reply to Narrator (msg # 70):

Yeah that was why it was bothering me. I couldn't see how it would effect him really. Unless the humans recognize him as the chieftain's son and creates some clout for him. But he as a hobgoblin would look at them and ask why they do not fight (earn) for their rights to be called a lord, chief, king or what ever noble title they want to take.

Now that is settled though, not considered Noble born. Need to finish up my character.

Re: Character Discussion & Creation

I noticed a comment earlier in the thread about a free feat for having served. Does anyone have a link to that, or can confirm it? If so, is it conditional (from a small list or the like), or is it just a free feat from the overall list?

You can change out the druid's name as Catweazle :)

Re: Character Discussion & Creation

Player Characters can have the below feat for free. NPC's or others need to use their class feat and normal creation to pick this feat if they are nobles. Keep in mind to have a tile it is not required but without the feat the social position can be challenged in game.

Noble Birth [General]
You were born with a silver spoon in your mouth, and raised from a young age to represent your family and your social caste.

Prerequisite: Born into a Noble Family

Benefit: Diplomacy and Knowledge (Nobility and Royalty) are always considered class skills for you. Also, if you gain the Leadership feat you receive a +2 to your Leadership score.

Special Notes: In the Kalamar Empire, to be a lawful citizen and receive the rights that come with citizenship you must serve in the Imperial Army. Proof of serves is required in the form of documentation when service is completed. Without citizenship one is subject to the mercy of those who are. Nobles are not exempt from service and have the greatest to loss since land and titles are links to citizenship. This requirment is only in Kalamar and its city-states.

Re: Character Discussion & Creation

Just checked my old 3.0 KOK book.  So change of gods and go with Lord of Silver Linings.  Thus for domains I will be taking Healing and Renewal.

Sun is a good domain for fighting undead.  The other Domains for the two gods with this domain did not cover healing.  To me healing is far more important then fighting undead.

I ask because there is a healer class (not sure which book)

Also I do remember a player as a healer/ class cleric that had stuff vs. undead and healing.

FYI

I'm almost done with the Capital and related Kingdom information.
I have started the intro and it will be ready very soon for opening IC posts.

I will add a few more threads like an OCC and the secret "lord & ladies" thread. I will explain more about these thread soon.

So once I have character sheets and info posted and ready we can officially start.
Please keep in mind that we most have the core ready if you what to post. If not ready by Monday that's fine but the other players will get to begin. and this mean you may have to wait for an intro.

Lets set a dead line excluding my royal mess up with a deleted player :(

That by Monday all character sheets will be done and IC will open to start.

Keep in mind if currently in service they supply primary, secondary weapons, a shield and armor for the class.

if you did not service but come from noble class you may have your pick

if both most-likely you will have what you need and  then some

if you over do it you will be declined like bad credit LOL

Re: Character Discussion & Creation

The Healer class you have listed on the site has nothing about undead.  Changing over to a cleric only requires changing class name and a feat.  I only took this class because personal experience always lead to the need of healing.

I admit I am slow on doing descriptions and history.

If the party wants I can change classes to a fighter or a ranger.

I should have my sheet done.  Unless the GM finds problems.  Except for if he gets armor and a weapon for being part o the Imperial Army.  That should be it.  If the party starts running to a lot of undead then I will take the Turn Undead feat.

I do not have the book the Healer is listed in thus do not know if Turn Undead is a class feature.  On the site it is not listed as a class feature.

Some UPDATES

I have a few website(s) which are linked off the main site.

Each adventure group gets a website and I move the information from rpol to that site and pretty much keep forever.

I'm a natural "Pack Rat" :)

Google has sent a notice that at some point soon, ever classic website will be converted to the new site set up.

I don't like the new set up but its free and its google which tends to be safe. I have noticed it looks better on the phone and on the ipad. I will spend about 2 hrs a day teaching myself the site and updating the website.

At some point the site will go private again so you will need to request access once its ready.

I will start the new site for this game "Imperial Army" -unless i use a mods name. And should have it fully up and ready by the time the intros are done, and/or when we finish the 1st part of the adventure.

I am still checking sheets and it will take some time.

FYI
No combat until I confirm all sheets. Once finished I will lockout sheets until next part of adventure. Players can update sheets based on my call and not in the middle of a sense. Magic needs research, skills need training etc etc.

If you want to see advancements I recommend RPing your character learning new skill in game. It helps and make for great storytelling :)

I checked Tarrano's character sheet and made some edits:

1. Shortsword damage changed from 1d4 to 1d6

2. Starting HP's is 24 not 10. Con + Con bonus + max class HP's. So its 16 + 2 + 6 = 24 HP

But if it's 10 a pound, then yeah, I'd be heavier. Though this wouldn't change anything considering I'm way over light encumbrance anyway, the STR barely covers basic equipment. Esparam needs a bag of holding or a horse/donkey for sure!
