Re: OOC THREAD

Errrrrmmmm so I'm wondering... has this run its course? Is it maybe time to pack things up and say it was fun while it lasted?

If no one replies, this will serve as one-week-notice... but I bet at least one of you replies... (of course, if the answer is "yes, let's stop," then this will still serve as the one week's notice)...

I'm still here and wouldn't mind continuing, but it would be more fun with at least one other active player.

Thoughts?

Hmmmmmm... I'm about to start a NEW game...

link to another game

...But... I guess I could try to advertise for new players... but with or without new players, this game might be continue to be kinda the last one I get around to on my list every day, if you see what I mean... you okay with that...

Uggghhhhh, I am really spread too thin right now...

Look, your offer of being fine with a slow pace is very tempting to me, but... I... I really hesitate. I really don't feel like I can keep this going with the momentum it needs...

And so, I really feel anxious about bringing MORE people into it...

Let's talk for a little bit...

...Tell me something-- what other games are you playing in? And are you GMing any?

What are your favorite genres? Do you like anything besides this genre...?

Re: OOC THREAD

I'm currently GMing two games of Numenera (science fantasy, cypher system) and have been running both over two years now.

I'm in several other games, but most of them are on hiatus at the moment (one person is GMing 3 of them and is dealing with health issues).

The other games I am in are:

Numenera (2 games, one of which is still active, although only updates about two or three times a month and I'm the only active player at the moment.  Other is on hiatus)

One game of The Strange and another of Predation (both use Cypher System, both on hiatus)

I was in another game of The Strange, but the GM ghosted.  I had started one game of D&D 5e, but all the other players ghosted.  I don't have any D&D 5e books and just used some free online resources to generate a character.  I'm only vaguely familiar with the rules.

I've run (lifetimes ago?) a game of Vampire the Masquerade with the original rules (I have LOTS of those books, plus some for Mage and Werewolf) but have no 5e WoD books.

I like scifi and science fantasy.  I like exploring.  I don't mind combat, but I know it can slow games down, esp. play by post.  I'm ok with horror up to a point (depends on content and where the violence is directed).

I know the pandemic (and some other of my life circumstances) have got me a little mentally exhausted, and I don't know how much energy I can put into learning a new system or reading through a lot of stuff for character creation.  I'm fine to learn as I go and perfectly willing to take direction on how things work.  This game had a pretty easy character set up, so that was ok (and also pre-pandemic).

In addition to the WoD books mentioned above, I've got lots of Cypher System books (Numenera, The Strange, Predation, Cypher System Rulebook-red cover) and more on my wish list.  I've very comfortable playing in that system and create characters with ease for nearly any scenario.  I'm sure I could adapt to WoD 5e rules with a bit of help (I think I had tried starting another game in that, which evaporated before it started).  I could manage D&D with a bit of help.  I've also got the PDF version of Hulks and Horrors which is scifi and a modified d20 system.  I'm not through the whole thing yet, but it is fairly straight forward so far (free on DTRPG).

Does this help?

It was interesting to read... and yet, it doesn't solve my problem (as I apparently hoped it magically would give inspiration)...

Problem: I don't think I can do this game anymore, but I also don't want to let you down as a player and I can't think of a good solution yet.

I just... I'm not... I just know I'm spread too thin, and I don't dare start this game up again.

I'll keep thinking about it...

Re: OOC THREAD

Just letting me know that it's time for this game to end is not letting me down as a player.  As a fellow GM, I know that you can sometimes run out of juice.  I know there isn't always time/energy/mental resources for everything you want to do.

You have no obligation to me.  You have run a fun game that I enjoyed playing.  If it's time to move on to something else, that's ok.

You aren't ghosting me or creating/allowing a gaming environment that makes me want to quit.  We're good.

Yeah but it still bugs me.

I SHOULD like this game still.

I thought:

--What if I played a character, myself? No. I play all the NPCs already.

--What if someone else GMed? Or we traded places, GM and player? No. Wouldn't be fair anyway.

--What if I invited Buzz's player to play something else instead? Nah, I don't think that's the right solution...

--Well, what do you not like? What's filling you with dread that you don't feel like going on?

That was a useful thing to think. I thought:

--I don't want to role-play through infiltrating the upcoming union meeting thingy. That feels boring.

--Okay then... what if we skipped ahead?

--Just sort of... montaged through that, moved ahead to something more exciting/interesting? ...That might work...

--Well, would it still seem appealing if you had to break in a new player or two?

--UGH, breaking in new player/characters... but yeah, maybe. And this is the perfect time... Some emergency happens elsewhere (Titan itself, probably) so we have to re-assign Flash... but we give Buzz one or two new partners... if anyone shows up... Yeah, that could work...

So what'd'ya think?

Okay awesome. If no one shows up, or if they show up but then drop out fast, I'll just solo-game it with you a while, or maybe I'll just make my own PC.

Reply to this, please, to "light up" the game for me for the (near?) future, to remind me to get back to this...

Well, reminder or not, here I am, back to prove that I haven't forgotten about this.

So... want me to advertise for new players now?

Choose one:

1. Yeah, GM, do that

2. Nah, let's give up on this and start playing something else

3. Nah, let's just shut this down

Your responses in the past might lead one to expect that you will choose option 1, but that was November, so I just want to make sure.

I am fine with option 1 or 2.  Nearly all of the games I'm a player in seem to be dormant due to GM disappearance, so I'm not keen to lose another.

Slow is fine.

Ah, but which? 1 or 2?

Here's something I've started thinking about recently... you could play the same character!

Re: OOC THREAD

Yes, that could work fine.  Although a fair amount of Buzz's abilities are piloting-a-vehicle related, so ... gotta figure out vehicles or a way to swap out for other abilities.

Other suggestions for possible characters for that game: A necromancer in a zombie realm, perhaps (especially if the magic of the common realm does not include that).

Extra-planar creature/person.

(look it up) Ah, I see, you said you had to go... basically right after the global pandemic hit North America. Yeah, that makes sense.

1. So you're sure you'd have time to commit to something now?

2. If the answer to 1 is "yes" ...well, as you can see from just a little earlier in this thread, Buzz and I are talking about doing something else...

Still haven't decided what I'm going to do or how, but I think I'm going to not proceed on this. I've spread myself so thin it's hard for me to even keep the other games I GM going in a timely way, let alone keep this one or start a new one.

But I do think I'm going to stop this one. Buzz, I'll PM you...
