OOC THREAD

So, Flash Bang,

1. You're an Alien Daredevil, is that right? If not, an Alien What/Alien Which?

2. As an alien, what do you look like?

3. Which planet are you from? Your options are:

--Mercury (rocky and hot)
--Venus (swampy and wet)
--Luna (Earth's moon, still in orbit where it used to be... its orbit around the sun is a bit unstable, though)
--Mars (desert)
--Asteroid belt
--Jupiter (gas giant with ancient floating cities)
--Saturn (details to be established during game play)
--Ouranos (once known to Earth as Uranus) (details to be established during game play)
--Neptune (wet and watery)
--Pluto (dark and icy)
--Planet X (details to be established during gameplay)

OOC THREAD

Flash is actually from Titan; the largest of Saturn’s many, many moons.

Titanics have a similar, bipedal appearance to humans, but are very different physiologically.
Their green, hairless skin and larger cranium (complete with antennae) quickly distinguish them from humanity; as do the second, smaller set of arms.   Their primary arms grow from the top of the torso, from the shoulders (like humans have); but a secondary set of arms grow below that.  While not as functional as the primary set, neither are these arms vestigal; serving more of a utility function.   Used in body expression, and holding items, for example.
Titanics evolved from the ubiquitous insectoid life forms that proliferate Titan; filling many of the niches that mammals held on Terran earth.

This Alien is definitely a Daredevil at heart.    Flash was a famous, and very popular, athlete on Titan, having competed in, and mastered, many of the Tatanic sports.
He’s generally a friendly (and sometimes ‘goofy’) guy, who takes ‘having fun’ quite seriously.

‘Flash Bang’, of course, is not his native name ... but it is, in the human tongue, a good enough similarity.  And it is often joked that it resembles his athletic and thrill seeking nature: they way he can, and often does, explode into action (like the traditional flash bang grenades used by many military cultures across the solar system).
... and, OOC, pays homage to ‘Flash Gordon’: that 50’s icon of the Atompunk genre).

ALIEN ORIGIN:

1. Yes.

2. I'd forgotten that we need to work with the "Alien Origin" part.

That move is NOT how I planned "raise two of your stats by 2 points" to work.

How it should've worked is this:

Distribute these scores:

16 (+2), 14 (+1), 13 (+1), 10 (0), 8 (-1)

And since you're an alien, raise two of these:

16, 14, 13, 10, 8

by 2 points, and one by 1 point.

The modifier chart is:
18: +3
16-17: +2
13-15: +1
9-12: 0
8 and under: -1

Forceful:
Agile:
Insightful:
Confident:
Charming:

Sorry, but I'd forgotten that I shouldn't've just skipped the basic numbers for an Alien character.

UGH. I meant 11 to be 10. I edited and changed it as soon as I noticed, but you'd already grabbed the 11...

One more try should do it...

Robot, what'll your other half be?

--Agent: The ultimate super-spy. Good at recon, stealth, deception, and manipulation.

--Commando: The Soldier. Good at tactics and shooting.

--Detective: Strong-willed, insightful master of forensics, investigation, the criminal underworld and reading people.

--Explorer: Experienced traveler of the solar system. Expert in all things alien, especially animals, monsters, and strange ruins.

--Flyboy: Male or female—an expert pilot, driver, and astronaut.

--Professor: Master of all the sciences and a whiz with technology.

--Warrior: The hand-to-hand combat and melee weapons expert.

Robot
--Detachable Flying Head: Send your head off to do something while your body does something else. Your heady and body can perform two different actions at the same time. If you get any special bonuses, you must choose which move to add it to... before you roll.
--Internal Repair Systems: This allows you to add 1d4 HP back-- even if you've been knocked unconscious. (But the GM gets to escalate things afterwards if he wants!)
--Robotic Strength: Something useful happens because of your Robotic Strength: [+] [+]
--Precision Sensors: Something useful happens because of your Precision Sensors: [+] [+]
--Energy Transfer: You move energy around in a useful way... [+]
--Electro-Net Interface: Something useful happens because of your ability to interface with the solar system's Electro-Net (internet)... [+]

Agent
--Infiltrator: As long as you are in disguise, using a cover identity, or are being stealthy, you can add +1 to any roll. The GM can threaten your cover or stealth by introducing threats like “Suddenly, they see through your disguise!” or “Suddenly, you're caught in the act!”
--Covert Ops: All of your gear is concealable and silent.
--Primary Target: Coordinate your allies against a threat. Until the threat is defeated, you and your allies do +1 hit against that threat. (Use on only 1 threat at a time). (But when you start using this, the GM gets to escalate things afterwards if he wants!)
--Micro Gadgets: Something useful happens because you have Micro Gadgets. [+]
--Disguise Kit: Something cool happens because you have a Disguise Kit. [+]
--Hologram Projector: Something useful happens because you have a Hologram Projector. [+]
--Spy Drone: Something useful happens because you have a Spy Drone. [+]
--Rocketpack, Wrist Communicator, Goggles & Gas Mask, Utility Belt & Med Kit: Something useful happens because you use one of these! [+]
--WEAPON: Raygun, Electro-Blaster, or Turbo-Rifle: Something extra-useful happens because you have one of these! [+]

"flash-bang grenades" are a thing; they exist to make a very loud noise and very bright flash to deafen and blind people without too much damage (unless it goes off right near your head of course).

NOW THIS IS NOT THAT BIG A THING because if Flash has souped HIS grenades up or something, then who am I to argue? Just thought I'd point out that normally "flash-bang" grenades are not designed to be able to blow a hole in anything...

Well, my golden rule is: so long as the rule applies to everyone, its fair.

I guess, letting players pick the stat that suits them best will make success more regular ... which speeds up scenes (including combat).

But, it does blur the lines between appropriate skills ... and will lead to players feeling they can negotiate upon such matters.  Sooner or later, someone will suggest that their ability to tell if someone is lying is based more on 'Charm' than 'Insight', because charm is all about social intuition as well as projected emoting.

Then again, at the moment, you haven't delineated 'Moves', and which stat to use for each, so maybe you want to leave this as ambiguous, and allow players to use the stat that best fits their narrative (ie which stat matches what they are describing).

They would have a right to try arguing it, but I'd say no, because Charm is for what you're putting out there, and Insight is for what you're picking up on that's incoming.

Wasn't my intention... I simply felt that everything was clearly delineated.

Except this one thing.

So...

CID said: "use Forceful for shooting destructive weapons."

I said: "I'm okay with that as long as we do it every time from now on."

Hmm... I just noticed that, at the end of the Character Creation post, I DID talk a little about the rules:

quote:
Shoot
When you take aim and shoot at an enemy at range, roll+Agile.
✴On a 10+, you have a clear shot—deal your damage.
✴On a 7–9, choose one (whichever you choose you deal your damage):

--You have to move to get the shot placing you in danger as described by the GM
--You have to take what you can get: -1d6 damage
--You have to take several shots, reducing your ammo by one

Of course, the "ammo" part is arguably dumb, because it's just a holdover from Dungeon World, and I wasn't really gonna do "ammo" here...

But it does show that I'd already set up shooting as an Agile thing... (and then I forgot I'd set it up thusly...)

So... does this change anything? Or shall we still use Forceful for destructive weapon use...?

And re:
quote:
Flash Bang, remove the plus symbol next to your Ray Gun...
Guys, you can attack (Forceful) or dodge (Agile) or try something else...)
Must I?
It was a narrative use of the gun, not mechanical: I didn’t claim or use the +1 bonus for the equipment on that roll.

Flash Bang, another thing that could be done about the two "rabid" robots attacking is you could DEFEND CID('s body):

Defend
When you stand in defense of a location, item, or person (including yourself), roll +Forceful.

On a 10+, hold 3.
On a 7-9, hold 1.

As long as you stand in defense, when you or the thing you defend is attacked, you may spend your hold, 1-for-1, to choose an option from the list below:

■ Redirect the attack from who/what you're guarding to yourself.
■ Halve the attack’s effect or damage.
■ Grant an ally +1 forward against this enemy.
■ Deal half your damage (rounded up).
■ Hold them back
■ Draw all attention from your ward to yourself

When you go on the offense, cease to focus on defense, or the danger passes, lose any Readiness that you hold.

Okay, CID, you've escaped the bomb, but the tunnel behind you has now collapsed.

I'm going to hold up on what happens next to your head until I find out what's gonna happen next back in Cavern 42 itself.

But I do think we should discuss:

1. Do your body and head know what's going on with each other while they're apart?

2. Is there any complication you want to tell me about that starts happening the farther they get from one another? (If not, fine, but if not, complications involving that are gonna  start happening if you miss or half-miss any rolls from here on until the two are reunited...)

So... I'm getting from this...

1. That your body and head do know what's going on with each other... but not perfectly... more like just the most basic information...?

2. Not sure about the answer to number 2 yet... it sounds like you're saying... that the communications between head and body can be hacked and eavesdropped on without too much trouble if one is aware what to look for...?

Ah, I misread point 2.
I would say there is a lag in their updating between each other the further the distances involves.
I was considering there to be increased difficulties with the drone (as the torso is the "platform" so to speak). Maybe penalty if the really large distances are used.

If you want to mean hacking for eavesdropping and other stuff gets through the firewall easier, the is fine by me.

I think, in this system, answers to these questions need to be focused on the ‘Move’ they are associated with.
And the Move needs to be focused on the effect.

Anything that creates harm, damage or such needs to be a Forceful Move.
Anything that controls the environment, or avoids harm needs to be Agile.

Otherwise, your going to end up with so many ‘exceptions’ and rules for variants, that the simplicity of this system will be void.

Insect communicate mostly with pheromones.   Scents and smells are their 'thang'.

Maybe Titan's have their olfactory glands in their craniums, and those faculties are more advanced and extensive than humans.

So, maybe:
Titan's receive a +1 bonus to Insight rolls when scents and pheromones are involved.   This allows them to better understand the emotions of humans and other races, or pick up faint hints about their environment that might otherwise go unnoticed.
Additionally, any race of being (including Titans) who can communicate using controlled pheremone abilities, can have basic conversations in this manner. Essentially, it is an alternate 'non-verbal' language (in much the same way body language can be used to communicate basic concepts).

AH HA. Yes, that certainly helps. So basically, if I'm on the same page as you now, like this:

--Insightful: NOT for affecting the environment, unless it's for trying to operate a computer or a machine which has the power to affect the environment.

--Charming: NOT
for affecting the environment, unless it's for trying to convince someone else to do so for you.

--Forceful: For changing or moving through the environment in a destructive way.

--Agile: For changing or moving through the environment in a NOT-directly-destructive way.

--Confident: For anything not covered by the first four above. (Probably mostly for dealing with things within yourself, like not succumbing to Panic Gas or maybe to resist psychic assault or stuff like that...)

Does that seem right?

Ah ha! Yes, good reminder.

+1 to Insight rolls that involve olfactory clues, which may often, though not always, be "picking up clues involving people who are biological, and not robots."

OKAY SO NOW HERE'S WHAT'S NEXT:

An INTERLUDE

Here's what the game says about INTERLUDES:

It's time for a short interlude scene.

--An interlude is a brief bit of roleplaying or narration...

--An interlude is a chance for the players to narrate cool stuff, roleplay with each other,
recover from the action, and—- most importantly—- set up Questions to be answered in the next part of the game (Suspense!).

When you do an Interlude scene:

--Include your PC, plus another PC and/or an NPC.

--Say where you are  (your spaceship? The local Danger Patrol Headquarters? A really nice hotel room? The initial scene of the crime? Somewhere else?) (or ask for ideas OOC) and what’s happening when the scene starts.

--Roleplay! Reveal your relationship with the other character(s).

--(Optional) Introduce a clue, plot point, or possible future threat.

--Refresh up to 3 [+] (put the plus marks back so they can be used again)

--Get up to 12 hit points back

Think of it this way: The first action scene is an in media res slam-bang thing, but we don’t know why it’s happening exactly.

Then, we get the first interlude. The players will introduce little moments and ideas, which the GM can use to shape the Suspense scene coming up next (you'll see).

Tread lightly! Don’t resolve a bunch of stuff yet. The Suspense scene to come will revolve around several unanswered Questions that you’ll “fight” using investigation actions. But feel free to introduce leads and elements during the Interlude that the GM can use to create Questions for the Suspense scene.

Locations, enemy groups, weird objects, found evidence, NPCs that you force to talk... all good fodder for the Suspense scene coming up. If you want to jet off to Saturn later and meet with the Ring Knights (or something), now’s the time to lay that groundwork for later.

Also, larcen13, the player we lost was a Robot Detective, so I'm just a teeny tiny bit hesitant about you making a new Detective.

Also, Flash Bang is an Alien Daredevil (but I think he might not mind if anyone else were an Alien as long as it wasn't the same type as him (a dude from Saturn's moon Titan). I wouldn't mind, myself...

I've made this post so everyone can compare notes so we all make sure we don't get the exact same thing... I kinda want variety...

Confident is for:

1. Using psychic or mystical powers, IF one has them

2. Resisting things like psychic or mystical powers or anything else that might attempt to affect you in a non-Forceful way, like hypnowheels, subsonic mind control music, panic powder, etc.

3. Anything that doesn't seem to fit into the other categories

Insightful is for noticing clues, using computers, repairing things, jury-rigging things to work slightly differently, reprogramming things, researching things, trying to figure out what someone who doesn't speak the same language is trying to tell you, figuring things out.

Denton was once a bad guy. No, literally. He was a smuggler and strong arm for a criminal syndicate. But, he saw the error of his ways. It's probably available for most of you to read as a matter of Partol policy.

Any who.

Denton Quade
Two-Fisted/Warrior
Black uniform with red flame highlights. And cool shades.

He excels at hand to hand, sports, and making a fool of himself. He can land a ship most of the time without crashing it, he occasionally puts 2 and 2 together to get 4, and he does know enough about science to not mix pure oxygen with pure hydrogen in a space habitat.

He usually carries cigars. They look big and authentic, but are really cheap synthetic smokes without nicotine that smell good. Its a distraction, keeps his hands moving in the face of threats, lets him look cool and unperturbed. It lets him find an opportunity to make a move in the face of danger.

And it looks cool with the flames and shimmering lenses.

cue is for bar-b-cue or pool cue, think you are looking for a stage prompt or a clue to move forward or a signal from the director, a.k.a. a queue.

all joking aside, it has been enjoyable. sorry i came into it late. Denton is a former bad guy, he has a few insecurities around those people who are good guys for goodness' sake. it wasn't how he was raised, so he hides the insecurities with bravado, arrogance, and violence of action.

besides, marriage to a good woman! How could he ever live up to those ideals? He doesn't recognize most of them.

I mean as long as we're correcting, the GM's initial usage was right. 'cue' spelled that way is in fact used to mean prompt or signal used to indicate the start of a new performance or scene etc. The 'queue' spelling you used refers to a line of people waiting for something, or sometimes a particular hairstyle from Qing Dynasty China. =P

But yeah I think we can shift scenes.

Apparently, t’is the season to be jolly.
Personally, I’m too overworked during this season for anything but tired.  :-p
Truth is, I’m very lucky to be surrounded by loved ones; so whinging aside ....

I hope that the season brings great joy to you all, my friends.

However, the season isn’t always ‘merry and bright’ for everyone.
If this is a season of sorrow, loss or great stress for you ... if you are struggling ... please do find help.   At least talk with someone you trust about your pain.  Hell, send me a Private, and we can chat.

Personally, I encourage everyone to remain aware of others’ feeling during this time; and be conscious of how our words and actions affect others.
I really do hope that everyone finds some happiness this season ... and, if possible, bring some love and light into the lives of those around them.

No need to apologize. But if it helps, I'll try to pull back on my being so obvious about it still not being my turn when the fact should be obvious.

Example: When I say "each of you roll now" and one of you does, I won't (continue to) post "now I'm waiting for the other person." I'll try to just let it continue to be obvious that it's not my turn yet. I wasn't trying to hurry you up... but I can see how the fact that I posted something really obvious made it feel that way...

1. No penalties.

In fact, the Warrior (that's you) has this:

Warrior
--Fighting Spirit:
When you hurt your enemies, you are filled with a surge of energy. When you do 7 or more damage in one hit, you get lost 1 HP back. When you do your maximum damage, you get 2 lost HP back.

You have other "moves" you may CHOOSE to activate at certain times, but that one's automatic.

Starting HP: Warrior gets 22.

So you're currently at 13/22 hp.

As for "acquiring" the game, Danger Patrol is/was free... but this isn't EXACTLY Danger Patrol, but my PbtA variant...

EDIT: I'll catch up on the in-game thread tomorrow...

Denton, I will now teach you to roll for yourself.

You're attacking, and not with a gun, so that's Forceful. Your Forceful stat is:

Forceful 16 (+2)

So please use the dice roller to roll 2d6 +2.

If you get a 7 or above, you're going to do damage, so, in that case, then roll 1d8 to determine how much damage you do.

Good question. I was confused too. I thought at first that Denton had grabbed a cultployee body to use as another shield from gunfire, but going back and reviewing it (just now), that does not appear to be the case.

As far as I can tell he made up a shield out of thin air. So as far as I'm concerned, it's an imaginary shield that exists only in his mind. Maybe it's something he enjoys thinking about as a self-confidence-building technique.

So, yeah, you do not seem to currently have a way through the armory door.

Don't be insulting.

From Denton's character sheet and based on the options given;
Unarmed Combat (Traditional Weapon)
Knife (Other Traditional Weapon)
Electro-Shield Gauntlet
Impact Glove
Rocketpack
Wrist Communicator
Goggles
Gas Mask
Utility Belt
Med Kit
Turbo-Rifle

so, tell me where the misunderstanding is, after you apologize. geeze man, you make it hard not to report you for being somewhat abusive to players.

Hey, four of my equipment slots are vehicles, which have had almost no use whatsoever so far.  Unless we can find the gunship hanger soon, I may have to look into picking up one of those Electro-Shield Gauntlets (if I can loot one from one of the bodies we tend to leave all over the place).  I don't want to loot one from Denton, as he is far more useful as a meat shield than a treasure chest.

The misunderstanding is that

1. I forgot about the Electro-Shield Gauntlet.

2. You never called it the Electro-Shield Gauntlet any of the times you referred to it, so I never spotted it when I looked at your sheet (does this suggest I wasn't looking hard enough? Yes, I think it might possibly suggest that).

(The above are not "take your pick," but "all/both of the above.")

3. I do apologize.

That was simply the stuff that was in the playbooks he chose.

You have these:

--(Blank)-Resistant Uniform: Something useful happens because you have a uniform that's resistant to a certain type of damage! [+]
--Smoke Bombs: Something useful happens because you have Smoke Bombs! [+]
--Magna-Grapple Line: Something useful happens because you have a Magna-Grapple Line! [+]
--Flash-Bangs: Something useful happens because you have a Flash-Bang grenade! [+]

As for the weapons, yes, everyone chooses just one of those weapons.

As for this line, though:

--Rocketpack, Wrist Communicator, Goggles & Gas Mask, Utility Belt & Med Kit: Something useful happens because you use one of these! [+]

THAT is (also) my screw-up. This is, as you may recall, an adaptation of the game Danger Patrol.

http://www.dangerpatrol.com/da...trol_beta_021910.pdf

Early on I thought that since the game made you choose one of the equipment pieces from that line as it did a weapon.

Then when someone, Buzz I think maybe, asked me about it, I went back and looked at the original game again, and it seemed like it DID mean one to get all the equipment on that one line.

If I didn't make that clear to everyone later-- and I can easily believe I didn't-- that's my screw-up.

Re: OOC THREAD

Denton's player wanted me to apologize, then said to remove him. Since I didn't mind apologizing (being in the wrong, and all), I waited to see if that might make a difference, but after I asked if it might, and he checked in and gave no reply, it seemed clear that there wasn't gonna be a confirmation.

I have marked Denton as an NPC, and transferred him to my ownership (thereby removing his former player from the game).

I have also NPCed CID and Dr. Cagliostro, although I haven't removed their players from the game. If they want this game to stop annoying them with updates, they can come and tell me themselves. Not doing so tells me that whatever's going on in their RL is a big enough deal that they're just not checking into their RPol accounts at all anymore. Ah well! That's the way it goes on RPol sometimes. Maybe they'll be back.

@GM: mechanics question - should the modifier for the Spirit roll have included a +1 bump due to Investigator

Investigator: You get +1 on all rolls that don't involve combat. Also, when you roll 12 or better when talking to people, take an extra +1 forward.

Yes

Juan (Johnny) Gonsalvez:
It wouldn't have changed the result, I'm just wondering... a +1 to all rolls seems a bit broken, no?

Yes

Obviously, this is a problem that's a legacy from the original game this experience is based on. The WHY is more interesting-- the whole game, there, was kinda broken into one-half COMBAT and one-half INVESTIGATING.

Here... that seemed... a bit... uh, what's the word I'm looking for... Extreme? Drastic? Limited?

Suggestions on how to make it less broken?

Should we make it "when actually literally investigating something?"

Or is that even a good fix at all...?

Sigh... too late... haha

@GM: When literally investigating is probably fair (or more fair than all non-combat rolls anyway).

Other playbooks that have a move that allows a re-roll or buffs a move roll all seem to have a more strict condition that needs to be met before it can be used (eg. when in disguise, when the danger gets high, when piloting a vehicle) or they have a single-use/refresh mechanic (eg. once per scene/chapter).  I think the situation/condition makes more sense then a once a scene restriction.

At first, the sense of urgency that the fact-analyzer had tried to impart to them rolled off their psyches like water off a Neptunian wave-skipper's back... Were they not Danger Patrol agents? Danger was the first word in their organization's name!

At first, that is... But as they stood in the corridor, that sense that they should get moving slowly grew... It wasn't anything they could put their fingers on, save for a small sense of "it's quiet-- TOO quiet" that began to gnaw at their conscious awarenesses...

But where?    We players have no idea what to do next, and we're looking for some direction.

Do we get any insight from our mud-map where we might logically find something?
does the machine ACTUALLY provide any hints?

or do we just say ... "We charge on through the first door we see"?

I think we have collectively decided to (1) locate the teleporter (2) kill the power (if that would offer any advantage and if physically plausible/possible) then (3) go after the witch.

Do we have any idea how to move through this complex to accomplish those goals?  I’m a new arrival to the game, but since it’s PBtA and players help create the scene, can we just write into our narratives that we know where to go and get on with it?

Okay, I get what's happening--

1. This is mostly due to the lack of a map.

2. Johnny: Yes, I would be okay with that.

3. Flash Bang: Yes, I would also be okay with that.

Tell you what-- Johnny, roll Insightful for me, just one time, and I'll do the rest.

Okay, time to take stock.

I'm not only back, my schedule is finally starting to stabilize.

But where are we?

1. I realize it can sometimes be hard to get back into a game when it's lost momentum.

2. I realize it is hard to concentrate on a game with a virulent global pandemic going on (that was most of the problem that caused #1).

SO. Do each of y'all:

A. Want to continue?

B. Want out? (This option also covers "I WOULD like to continue, actually, but I am kind of overly stressed by the life-changing effects of a virulent global pandemic going on to actually commit to doing so.")

C. Want out of this game, but want to try playing something else?

Sound off and let me know which. If it is B, there will be no hard feelings toward you on my part.

Just because the airlock needs the first door to be sealed before the second door will open, it doesn't mean suits are needed on the other side.

I understand. IRL (family needed me more because trapped in the house) is slowing me down.

Do you want me to:

--Remove you from the game and write your character out?

--Run you as an NPC but let you remain a spectator?

Yes.

There were only two cultployees in mech suits... They aren't forced to attack their friends, but they don't seem to be working right, either. They seem very sluggish and hard to control. Their drivers would probably have gotten out of them by now if they didn't provide decent armor.

I do have a "hold it together skill" to pilot a craft that would otherwise be falling to pieces.  That might help.  Or somebody can shoot the sand leech more effectively than me.  Apparently piloting and shooting is too much divided attention.

...Ya know what? I'm giving you each one more for completing chapter 1.

Add 1 point to one of your stat numbers, Buzz.

Here's how the modifier boosts go:

18: +3
16 and 17: +2
13-15: +1
9 to 12: 0
8 or under: -1

ALSO, since you're getting some downtime, each of you put three of those little [+] you marked off back. You choose which you put back...

1. Just let me know when you're ready to go to Nadia's, and I'll set the scene

2. I made a Yarrislav character, but I don't know how I feel about his portrait-- it's the portrait I'm using for a villain in ANOTHER game that (as I recall) Flash is also in, but... It's hard to find portraits of pale-to-the-point-of-practically translucent skinned futuristic desk-jockeys... especially with a mustache, as Flash gave him. Any better suggestions...?

(I thought about msa203 but I just don't like the look of that guy-- doesn't remotely say "Yarrislav" to me

...Would msa227 be better...??)

I don't mind if Buzz is instead headed for the undercity instead, but why are we splitting up?

Yes, we give emergency beacons to willing pickpockets.  They trigger it if they are attacked.  We use the holographic map to navigate the city to reach them faster.

The beacons are not altered to track the pickpockets in any way.  They only send a signal or can be detected if activated.

There's not a lot like that, really. There're rectangular holes for drainage gutters under the curbs, and of course anyone could peer around the corner of a building at either of the two visible intersections at the ends of the block, but this city was designed to be easy to clean up in case of temporary emergency flooding.

Oh, and of course someone could park a ground vehicle on the street, and watch from within or behind one such, but there's not a lot of those on the street right now... What there are are low-slung cars it would be hard to hide behind, and none of them have tinted windows (no need for sun protection down here)...

Sure, why not. Sky sleds most comfortable for 1, but perfectly capable of carrying 2 (although two natives of Titan would be pushing the safety guidelines, but that's not the current situation).

Each of you has one, and they can be set to follow one another.

I've always wanted one ever since the first Hawkeye 4-part limited series.

If that doesn't seem to work for me, I may revoke that statement later.

In other news: I have been just about out of my mind with anxiety over the election, which obviously is not over.

I expect to return when this anxiety is resolved satisfactorily.

Depending on your preferred outcome, there is a possibility that is never.

No telling what the SECOND shot will do.

Also I've heard a lot of places are running out of Pfizer (which I had) and just giving Moderna. If that happens, who knows what THAT will do (although I've also heard it actually might give one better protection).

And so, I really feel anxious about bringing MORE people into it...

Re: OOC THREAD

I'm currently GMing two games of Numenera (science fantasy, cypher system) and have been running both over two years now.

I'm in several other games, but most of them are on hiatus at the moment (one person is GMing 3 of them and is dealing with health issues).

The other games I am in are:

Numenera (2 games, one of which is still active, although only updates about two or three times a month and I'm the only active player at the moment.  Other is on hiatus)

One game of The Strange and another of Predation (both use Cypher System, both on hiatus)

I was in another game of The Strange, but the GM ghosted.  I had started one game of D&D 5e, but all the other players ghosted.  I don't have any D&D 5e books and just used some free online resources to generate a character.  I'm only vaguely familiar with the rules.

I've run (lifetimes ago?) a game of Vampire the Masquerade with the original rules (I have LOTS of those books, plus some for Mage and Werewolf) but have no 5e WoD books.

I like scifi and science fantasy.  I like exploring.  I don't mind combat, but I know it can slow games down, esp. play by post.  I'm ok with horror up to a point (depends on content and where the violence is directed).

I know the pandemic (and some other of my life circumstances) have got me a little mentally exhausted, and I don't know how much energy I can put into learning a new system or reading through a lot of stuff for character creation.  I'm fine to learn as I go and perfectly willing to take direction on how things work.  This game had a pretty easy character set up, so that was ok (and also pre-pandemic).

In addition to the WoD books mentioned above, I've got lots of Cypher System books (Numenera, The Strange, Predation, Cypher System Rulebook-red cover) and more on my wish list.  I've very comfortable playing in that system and create characters with ease for nearly any scenario.  I'm sure I could adapt to WoD 5e rules with a bit of help (I think I had tried starting another game in that, which evaporated before it started).  I could manage D&D with a bit of help.  I've also got the PDF version of Hulks and Horrors which is scifi and a modified d20 system.  I'm not through the whole thing yet, but it is fairly straight forward so far (free on DTRPG).

Does this help?

It was interesting to read... and yet, it doesn't solve my problem (as I apparently hoped it magically would give inspiration)...

Problem: I don't think I can do this game anymore, but I also don't want to let you down as a player and I can't think of a good solution yet.

I just... I'm not... I just know I'm spread too thin, and I don't dare start this game up again.

I'll keep thinking about it...

Just letting me know that it's time for this game to end is not letting me down as a player.  As a fellow GM, I know that you can sometimes run out of juice.  I know there isn't always time/energy/mental resources for everything you want to do.

You have no obligation to me.  You have run a fun game that I enjoyed playing.  If it's time to move on to something else, that's ok.

You aren't ghosting me or creating/allowing a gaming environment that makes me want to quit.  We're good.

Re: OOC THREAD

Buzz Corey:
Just letting me know that it's time for this game to end is not letting me down as a player.  As a fellow GM, I know that you can sometimes run out of juice.  I know there isn't always time/energy/mental resources for everything you want to do.

You have no obligation to me.  You have run a fun game that I enjoyed playing.  If it's time to move on to something else, that's ok.

You aren't ghosting me or creating/allowing a gaming environment that makes me want to quit.  We're good.

Yeah but it still bugs me.

I SHOULD like this game still.

I thought:

--What if I played a character, myself? No. I play all the NPCs already.

--What if someone else GMed? Or we traded places, GM and player? No. Wouldn't be fair anyway.

--What if I invited Buzz's player to play something else instead? Nah, I don't think that's the right solution...

--Well, what do you not like? What's filling you with dread that you don't feel like going on?

That was a useful thing to think. I thought:

--I don't want to role-play through infiltrating the upcoming union meeting thingy. That feels boring.

--Okay then... what if we skipped ahead?

--Just sort of... montaged through that, moved ahead to something more exciting/interesting? ...That might work...

--Well, would it still seem appealing if you had to break in a new player or two?

--UGH, breaking in new player/characters... but yeah, maybe. And this is the perfect time... Some emergency happens elsewhere (Titan itself, probably) so we have to re-assign Flash... but we give Buzz one or two new partners... if anyone shows up... Yeah, that could work...

So what'd'ya think?

I am fine with changing the scene and bringing in new players.  Totally cool and no rush.

I appreciate your thought process.

Okay awesome. If no one shows up, or if they show up but then drop out fast, I'll just solo-game it with you a while, or maybe I'll just make my own PC.

Reply to this, please, to "light up" the game for me for the (near?) future, to remind me to get back to this...

Well, reminder or not, here I am, back to prove that I haven't forgotten about this.

So... want me to advertise for new players now?

Choose one:

1. Yeah, GM, do that

2. Nah, let's give up on this and start playing something else

3. Nah, let's just shut this down

Your responses in the past might lead one to expect that you will choose option 1, but that was November, so I just want to make sure.

Re: OOC THREAD

I am fine with option 1 or 2.  Nearly all of the games I'm a player in seem to be dormant due to GM disappearance, so I'm not keen to lose another.

Slow is fine.

Ah, but which? 1 or 2?

Here's something I've started thinking about recently... you could play the same character!

Re: OOC THREAD

Yes, that could work fine.  Although a fair amount of Buzz's abilities are piloting-a-vehicle related, so ... gotta figure out vehicles or a way to swap out for other abilities.

Other suggestions for possible characters for that game: A necromancer in a zombie realm, perhaps (especially if the magic of the common realm does not include that).

Extra-planar creature/person.

Glad to see this pop out of the past!

I'd be willing to have another go at this game (option 1).

(look it up) Ah, I see, you said you had to go... basically right after the global pandemic hit North America. Yeah, that makes sense.

1. So you're sure you'd have time to commit to something now?

2. If the answer to 1 is "yes" ...well, as you can see from just a little earlier in this thread, Buzz and I are talking about doing something else...

I'd be more into breathing life into this, less into the fish out of water dungeon crawl idea.

Mm... and I feel just the opposite way...

Shall I presume, though, that the answer to my first question was "yes" ...?

Haha, of course, presume away.

If you choose to let this game go, no hard feelings and best of luck with the new project!

Still haven't decided what I'm going to do or how, but I think I'm going to not proceed on this. I've spread myself so thin it's hard for me to even keep the other games I GM going in a timely way, let alone keep this one or start a new one.

But I do think I'm going to stop this one. Buzz, I'll PM you...
