Re: Chapter 2: The Grave of the Pirate Queen.

The crab is extremely agile dodging all of Drakul's strikes and the first two of Mog's. The barbarian's third strike was right on target though and it bit deep into the creature's shell. After that the rest of the delvers were able to kill the creature in short order.

Other than the dead giant crab the only other thing of note is a pile of bones and things in the corner of the room. The cavern narrows to a narrow passage at the other side of the room, if you look down the passage you can see it leads to another fork.

Brandaelfr digs through the pile of bones using the shovel trying to see if any of them are recent remains. He asks, "Anyone else know how to tell how long these bones have been here?"

Drakul inspected the dead crab. "I wonder if it’s any good," he said, poking into its shell with a dagger. "Anyone like giant crab?" He took a whiff to see if it smelled corrupted or something.

Re: Chapter 2: The Grave of the Pirate Queen.

It is clear from the bits of skin, meat, and sinew hanging from parts of the scattered bones these people were eaten recently. Turning the pile with the shovel Brandaelfr can see a lot of bones, it's difficult to tell how many bodies there were. Drakul can tell that the only thing extraordinary about the crab was its size; there is a lot of meat to be harvested.

A successful Search or Scrounging roll can confirm the death count and find any valuables that Brandaelfr might have missed.

As Brandaelfr dig up the bones, Fergurth begins to sort them out, hoping to find how many bodies it once was. She checks the trail as well to see if it stops or goes deeper in the cave.

Re: Chapter 2: The Grave of the Pirate Queen.

Through careful sorting Fergurth confirms that there are two dead humans as well as many fish. Tattered remains of fisherman's clothing like they saw around town are mixed with a tinderbox, the rusty head of a trident, a rubbery tentacle, a broken shortsword, and a pouch with 4 gold pieces. She can see signs that one person fled the crab room but the signs become unclear as to which way they went afterwards.

"Someone wanna grab the crab, or should we come back for it after?" said Drakul. "Looks like good meat, and a lot of it." He tiptoed down the hall a bit to find the fork. "I say we keep to the right until we hit a dead end."

"I really do not want to drag around that much meat until we clear out this entire cave system." Brandaelfr says. "I am not sure I want to eat crab that was eating people anyways. Keeping to the right sounds good to me. You are the trap detection expert."

After Fergurth confirms there are only two corpses, Brandaelfr says, "Rory and both of his friends could not have died in this spot then. We should keep moving forward until we fully explore this place."

When she gets done sorting out the bones, she looks over the tracks left in the sand. Turning to the group, “I’m pretty sure Rory is on his own now if even he’s alive. Only one person left this room so these two corpses are most likely his friends.”

"It is, of course, possible that the boy lives, especially given his reputation with the little ones from town, but I find it unlikely that he would escape the clutches of the crab only to not go for help. If he is alive, and not one of these piles of bones, he’s probably in a great deal of trouble."

Brandaelfr says, "I am not sure which one of those three could have survived. These could very well be Rory's bones, and one of his friends managed to escape the giant crab. We should take the gold with us and move on to see what else lurks in this cave system. We can split the coin equally later."

Brandaelfr puts the coin in his pack and readies his weapon once again. He follows behind Drakul as the group continues to explore.

Re: Chapter 2: The Grave of the Pirate Queen.

The adventurers continue forward, taking the right once again. The room they enter has rough hewn stone walls and wooden furniture. There is a work bench covered in tools, with some scattered on the floor as well. There is a bottle broken on the floor with liquid still spreading in a pool, as well Above the bench are wall racks for weapons and shields, though it is clear from the dusty outlines that some have been recently liberated.

Then the delvers see a trio of beings standing across the chamber from them. They are holding the weapons missing from the rack in their multiple arms, no tentacles, in fact they are standing on tentacles too! Each octopus man is holding a shield, two swords and a spear, one has put on a tri-cornered hat while another is wearing a golden necklace. The two groups have only a second to observe each other before each Octopus man throws their spear at the delvers.

Drakul, Fergurth, & Brandaelfr dodge or take 8, 7, & 8 impaling damage respectively.

“I’ll take the one on the right” Fergurth yells as she leaps to the side, dodging the incoming spear. She pulls back on her bow, it takes a little more effort than her last bow but she could feel that it was a little more powerful. Ear to ear grin, she releases her arrows at the Octo-Man’s eyes.

Re: Chapter 2: The Grave of the Pirate Queen.

Mog charges forward and attacks the right octopus delver.

Fergurth dodges the incoming spear and then shoots the right octopus delver.

Drakul nimbly rolls out of the way of a flying spear then closes the distance to the center octopus man.
Defend twice or take 7 & 4 cutting damage.

Dagrak buffs Brandaelfr with a Shield.
For the crit, Brandaelfr will get DB 3 instead.

Brandaelfr dodges the spear and charges at it's thrower.
Defend twice or take 7 & 7 cutting damage.

The delvers dodge a barrage of spears and spring into action. Several charge at their new foes while the cleric buffs. Fergurth fires two arrows at one of the octopus men, it tries to bring it's shield up but is unsuccessful and the arrows embed themselves in it's brain killing it instantly. The other two attack the delvers nearest to them in retaliation.

Brandaelfr is feeling nimble this battle. He parries aside the first blow so well that the octoman loses balance, and then returns a vicious blow aimed right at the octoman's sword arm. "Take that, you abomination!" Brandaelfr cries.

Defense:
Critical Success on Parry, defending octoman loses balance (cannot do anything, active defenses are at -2 until next turn)
Success on Retreat Dodge

Maneuver: Step and Attack
Success on deceptive attack at sword arm. Octoman defends at -3 or takes 12 cut to the arm.
