[IC] Jaunt to Bright Republic

For any modern 21st century human, the Bright Republic would probably be the least bizarre of any of the countries to visit, with a roughly comparable standard of living to modern countries, though the country didn't do quite as much importing of completed goods*. To the citizens of this world though, it was more like an acutal Atlantis.

From the taller mountains, you could turn your telescope to the isles, and though the curvature of the earth would prevent you from seeing the city itself, the light coming off the place was a constant issue.

Bright republic warships were rare outside of the republic itself (large scale portable theotechnology being ruinously expensive) but they were essentially modern 21st century warships compared to roman era quadramenes or (at best) Renaissance era sailing ships.

While they traded for raw materials readily, those same sailing ship never actually landed at the Republic - for trade, the BR maintained oil rigss that also served as trading ports, and had a small island off the coast that housed traders.

The island itself, while one of the most well populated regions in creation, wasn't all city - relying on just fishing and imports for one's foodstuffs would have been madness. The island was peppered with farms and green belts, carefully established to nurse the ecology of the island along.

The Bright Republic had a temperate climate, but it was somewhat chilly, with the regions heavily inland approaching tundra conditions (though it was usually too dry for snow). Nature parks were just large enough to allow limited access to camping in safe environments.

The cities themselves though, were the draw.

Giant spires of concrete and steel, the residential blocks and commercial skyscrapers extending as high as the grand architectural achievements of the other nations. The people walked it's streets and used public transit to get where they were going. The citizens walked freely, free of fear, their eyes glued to the small G.Jaws as they made their way across the republic. Most of them wouldn't have stood out in a modern city.

Of course, the fact that a few of the wealthier of them sported cyberlimbs and other implants sort of made them stand out, but most of those who were wealthy enough to own such gear had their own private conveyances.

Burning Records, being a fairly large company had a number of offices. Each of the major cities contained a facility, of course, with it's corporate HQ in Awatto. They also had an artists retreat in Lion's Gate to the south where their artists worked, and a few technical research facilities by the Northern Wasteland Territories.

(Note: The Bright Republic uses the smallest military population of any nation. Their island itself is pretty safe, and their navy and the shore guns are unchallenged.)
