Re: Puddle Jumping

Ayare begins to move to intercept Kukai.  She shakes her head at the thought, but despite a lifetime of being too weak to accomplish anything, she is oddly now in a position to do just that.  She looks at her scrawny arms as she runs and wonders if her strength on this plane would allow her to lift the Buddhist.

Doburi strikes the spirit again, and while a glancing blow, it non-the-less makes an impact.

E6, too focused on his fight with Doburi, does not realize that 4 of his brethern are down.  He trades blows with Dobie and makes more of a mark.

E7 growls at the taunting ninja.  He is well aware of how the battle is going.  Try this human!  He casts a spell and a 1' diameter ball of iron coalesces in front of him and shoots at Hiro-matsu.  Hiro, Average your Spd and Wil Saving throws and roll.  If you fail, take 18 damage.  If you succeed, take nothing.

E2 attempts to get up again.  He fails once again.

Re: Puddle Jumping

Takeshi chants and the air around the Spirit dims his energy.  E6 looks haggard but continues to press on at this point.

Totsu strikes twice on the prone spirit, continuing to chip away at the creature.  It is, however, still up.

Arashi sends a bowel-raker into the back of E7 and takes it down. (Hiro is free to act if he wishes, having delayed his action).

Yasashi observes.

E2 tries to rise again and fails again.

E6 looks about for escape and sees himself surrounded.  He attacks Doburi in an attempt to create a hole to run through.  He misses.

Yasashi turns to Arashi.  Let's get Kukai together.  I will heal you as you go.

Takeshi PAP is up.

NOTE: While Kukai is no longer at the center of the heat emanation, moving toward him will cause damage.  The closer you get, the more damage the heat does.

So I'm not sure but looks like I take 18 points of damage. unless there are other bonuses in play.

Hiro doubles over in pain as he is struck dead center, he moves into to ruthlessly make sure the spirit is dead.

Re: Puddle Jumping

Yasahsi delays to surge ahead with Arashi so he can heal as it goes.

Doburi attacks and his electricity finally shorts the spirit out as it falls to the ground.

Ayare uses her Sumai skill finally.  She rushes the last spirit whom is prone, and jumps high in the air, coming down on him with her knee.  Her faster speed on this plane gives her an added boost.  She does not kill the spirit, but he is unconscious.

=-=-=-=-=

With the heat, it becomes difficult to get Kukai - and that is part of the reason he is in such harsh shape - he is constantly barraged with heat and his endurance is used just healing himself slowly.

With Yasashi's help, however, Arashi can get there, take the heat damage as well as his healing, and get Yasashi off the field.

Takeshi continues to watch for any problems that may arise as the group comes to the realization that they have won Kukai... for now.

"Thank you for your help Doburi, it was good to have you here. If you ever have need, call upon me."

Just about out of magical power, Takeshi is ready to get out of here as soon as possible, though he will miss the feeling of physical power that it brings him.

The group gets Kukai away from the area as he slowly recovers.  No new threats show up at this point so Doburi bows to Takeshi, grins at Totsu, and leaves.

Takeshi, thank you for spending your power taking the enemy down, now it is my turn.

Does anyone need healing?
Yasashi has a fair bit of power left and would like everyone at full power just in case.  If you take him up on it, let me know how many you were down so I can track his power.

Totsu loudly says

I assume we do not want to leave any witnesses, or is someone going to want to try to question this guy at some point.

Totsu will Grab the unconscious guy and put him in a choke hold and wait to see if anyone wants to question the guy.
Bcs for jujutsu is a 15. Go ahead and roll if needed.

OOC:  if no one tells Totsu to stop he will choke the guy or snap his neck to kill the guy. Whatever is quickest to do.

If we are quickly moving ahead Totsu would motion Yasashi to heal Hiro and he will tell Hiro know he will watch while he gets healed.
Then Totsu will pick up his bow and make his way towards Yasashi to get healed after he has taken care of Hiro and Kukai.

Totsu is down 14 points

Re: Puddle Jumping

Takeshi hears Totsu's words about the last remaining spirit. Perhaps they do know who is behind this. At least we could find out his superior...

"Wait Totsu, if there is time for questioning we will want him alive. Let us resolve our healing and a quick discussion with Kukai. Can you tie him up?"

Takeshi waits for Kukai to gain his senses and begin conversation. First, if there is anything that we immediately need to know about his capture, perhaps he knows who is behind is abduction. Second, to see if he knows anything of Sasumi Michizane. During this, Takeshi watches Kukai's gestures and listens to his verbiage, trying to ensure it is him and not a further trap, though it seems unlikely.

Re: Puddle Jumping

Away from the heat and torture, Kukai ever-so-slowly starts coming to.

He is a bit bewildered and takes time for his mind to shift from the safe haven he created for it, to the current timeframe.

Eventually, he as as many questions as you do.

I remember the attack on the mountain.  I went to aid in the defense of the monastery and was circled and drug down into the mountain - into the fires.

I vaguely remember them anchoring me here, and then trying to keep my mind focused on defending itself rather than coherent thought.

Who they are, and why they attacked, is a mystery to me.  They are clearly Kami - and this is clearly one of the many Shinto Hells.

All the more reason to get to Nippon.  To brazenly move against the Buddhists in this fashion means they plan to strike the entire island soon.

Arashi speaks, and Kukai considers a moment.  We can, perhaps, invoke the Buddha.  It is possible the Buddha would intercede with the Kami of this hell and negotiate the release of a spirit.

He looks around, seeing Yasashi, and Takeshi, and adds, Friends.  You came to get me at great peril.  Who sent you?  What has become of the monastery?  Who led this attack?

Let us get away as fast as we might.

"Kukai, an update of things that have passed will be forthcoming. We must first take care of the two immediate challenges:
1: Rescue Sasumi Michizane if possible.
2: Bring our prisoner to consciousness and question him.

Kukai/Yasashi, Please help us decide which of you will perform which task. Then we will leave this place. The rest of us will keep guard."

Takeshi looks around and realizes he is giving orders to his betters, many of them in fact.

He bows low to Kukai, Yasashi, Arashi, and Totsu.
"Forgive me for my enthusiasm and brashness." He keeps his head low until direction is given.

If the Kami is questioned Takeshi will use Fetters of Truth to force the truth.

07:32, Today: Takeshi Oshiro rolled 9 using 1d20.  Fetters of truth on Kami, BCS:18. LoS:2

Re: Puddle Jumping

Seeing Kukai still out of it, Yasashi speaks up:

It is a balancing act we must perform now.  We are about to Invoke Buddha, in a Shinto hell, to help us release a Shinto woman from that hell, while at the same time interrogating a Kami, after foiling a Shinto kidnapping of a Buddhist priest.

We are searching for a Buddhist spirit whom has worked with Kami before, and is sympathetic to them, while at the same time willing to call in a significant favor to overlook our current activities.  Failure for the Buddhist spirit in negotiating might merely bring a powerful Kami's attention to what we do here and force another battle.

Arashi-san, what is your priority?  Releasing Kukai from this hell?  Gathering information about the Kami's involvement in our world politics?  Or saving the girl?

Because the only way I can see doing all three is likely to send Kukai back first, likely with the more martial of us, leave the spirits here as 'gifts' to the Kami we beseech, and myself staying behind to invoke on behalf of the girl and negotiate.

Doing other, I feel, would endanger Kukai and the groups release.

The more we know of the Kami's motives and goals the better we can negotiate this conflict.  Lastly Sasumi's redemption seemed pivotal to Cawti but perhaps it could be attained at a latter date; If Iam to prioritize. But I want you to proceed how you deem best.  But if you think you can pull off all three goals then please proceed with your plan."

Sounds to me like the first thing we should do is get Kukai out asap so I say we focus on this and discuss the rest while we are working on getting Kukai out.
How far do we have to travel to get to a point to get Kukai out?
Do the people who need to get Kukai out have the power to do this now or do they need to rest? (I look at Yasahi and Kukai as I say this)?
