Rules, Character Creation, and RTJ
Rules and Expections:

1: Have fun!  If something is impeding your ability to have fun, let me know in a PM and hopefully we can work it out.

2: I'm looking for a relatively fast paced game, so only apply if you can promise a minimum of 4 posts per week.  If something comes up and you won't be able to post for a while, let me know.

3: Pick a color to represent your character's speech, and use it when they talk.  OOC comments should be in orange.

4: When taking actions with mechanical effects (I.E. spellcasting, skill use,) clearly state your actions, rolls, intended results, etc in orange below your main post.  This is especially important during combat

Example:
"Knife to meet you!" Alice yelled, hurling a dagger at the nearest cultist and diving behind the altar for cover.

FREE: Quickdraw dagger
STANDARD: Throw dagger at the nearest cultist (14 to hit, 4 damage if successful)
MOVE: Move behind altar, which provides cover against the cultists' ranged attacks.


5: To keep things flowing smoothly in PbP, Initiative will be handled in groups.  All enemies and NPCs will share the same intiative, and all players who act before the next enemy turn can post in whatever order they want.  Player turns will be resolved in the order they are posted.

Example: Alice, Bob and Carol are fighting a pack of ghouls.  Their rolls are 5, 11, and 19 respectively, while the ghouls initiative is 8.  Bob and Carol each take a turn in whatever order they want, then the ghouls take a turn, then Alice, Bob and Carol take their turns in any order.

6: We will be using hero points and background skills.

7: During combat or "social combat" rounds, players have 72 hours to post per round.  After that point, the character will be on "autopilot" for the round, usually consisting of taking the total defense action, or attempting to influence the current room.

Level 1
20 pt buy
No restrictions on race and class (but see below)
Any alignment
Average starting wealth for your class
Two traits, one of which must come from the Player's guide.
All Paizo content allowed.  3rd party content by GM permission only.

While there are no absolute restrictions in character creation, there ARE a few things to consider:

1: This AP requires you to support Princess Eutropa's plans to reform the Taldor government.  These reforms include (in order of importance): Allowing women to inherit noble titles, allowing nonhumans to hold noble titles and political authority, and reforming the nation's legal codes, which are currently convoluted, ineffective, and occasionally outright corrupt.  You can support the princess for entirely selfish reasons (she IS one of the most rich and powerful people in the country, after all,) but you should be at least nominally on her side.

2: This AP is largely focused on intrigue, and involves extended social situations.  Characters without at least one or two social skills might find themselves frequently feeling useless.  Likewise, the Taldor upper class tends towards racism and classism, so less "civilized" races and classes might have a harder time influencing certain people.  I'm not saying you can't play a goblin druid navigating the halls of high society, just so long as you know what you're in for.

Biography: Tell me about your character's past.  Suggested topics include their family, what brings them to Oppara, and how they caught Martella Lotheed's attention as a potential agent.

Connections: Give me two people that your character knows, one ally and one enemy.

Secrets: Give me one secret that your character is keeping from the world, and one secret that they aren't aware of.

Two more things that might be relevant to character creation:

1) Martella has provided each of you with a 30 gp line of credit (enough for a courtier's outfit), to her favorite clothing store, Thread Rare, and enough high quality costume jewellery to complete the look.  You could also put that credit towards a noble outfit (75 gp total), which might help impress certain types of people.

2) Light and medium armor are allowed at the Gala, as are light or one-handed weapons, which must be sheathed.  Magic items such as scrolls are also allowed, though all spellcasting is prohibited without express written permission.  Heavy armor, shields, and ranged weapons are not allowed.  Familiars and service animals are allowed, so long as they are smaller than a human.
