1st Session: Character Creation
Okay, we can start hashing out characters here.  Everyone has been added as their only or first choice of Hunter archetype.  As of now we have:

A Divine
A Monstrous of alien origins
A Spooky Russian psychic
Mr. Twist, an Expert from the Bureau of Esoteric Lore

If anyone would like to change their archetype, let me know.  Since we have a wide variety of Hunters, I've reserved The Professional as a GMPC as a handler for the group.  I've set up a character sheet for each player that can be filled in.  Let's get to work building some hunters...

Hey all! I'm your Russian. I think I was part of a psychic spy program, but once I got into the states something... happened. Maybe my handler got eaten or somesuch, I'm not sure. But I'm with the group now, and learning more about the... various bits of misinformation I was told about lands outside Russia.

I'm going to go with the name Suri (angelic name: Suriel).  She's a woman, with placid eyes, in a perfect suit (skirt suit for the era).

Suri played by Jessica Raine.

Ratings: Charm-1, Cool+2, Sharp-1, Tough+2, Weird=0

Moves:Angel Wings: You can go instantly to anywhere you’ve visited before, or to a person you know well. When you carry one or two people with you, roll +Weird. On a 10+ you all go where you wanted. On a 7-9, you don’t quite manage it. Either you are all separated, or you all appear in the wrong place.

Soothe: When you talk to someone for a few seconds in a quiet voice, you can calm them down, blocking any panic, anger, or other negative emotions they have. This works even if the thing that freaked them out is still present, as long as your voice can be heard.

Lay On Hands: Your touch can heal injury and disease. When you lay your hands on someone hurt, roll +Cool. On a 10+, heal 2 harm or an illness, plus they’re stabilized. On a 7-9, you can heal the harm or illness as on a 10+, but you take it into yourself. On a miss, your aura causes them extra harm.

Gear: Flaming sword (3-harm hand fire holy)

Mission:You have been exiled. You must work for the cause of Good without drawing attention from your brothers and sisters, as they are bound to execute you for your crimes.

1st Session: Character Creation
Type: Monstrous
-Name: [Not sure yet]
-Look: Man, Energetic aura, greaser’s outfit.
Charm-2, Cool+2, Sharp=0, Tough=0, Weird+3

Breed: He Was A Teenage Alien.

Curse: Dark Master (sort of). The Species all get their instructions in the Plan, telepathically. He just doesn’t listen.

(This frustrates “Mission Control”, but if he listened, there’s a major chance he’d have to obey, too. He also somehow doesn't give his position away by sheer disinterest.)

Natural Attack: Claws, +1 harm. (His hands "knurl" when he's enraged, and shift back elsewise.)

Moves:
Unholy Strength
Unquenchable Vitality.

Gear:
Brass Knuckles

Basic Story:

There is a species of aliens- intelligences vast and cool and unsympathetic, with minds perhaps even greater tham man's but just as mortal, who have had generations of "Changeling" sleeper agents. They have a Plan, which has gears turning slowly but surely against us.

He was one of them. His parents- his loving mother and his father a highly-placed Government official- adopted him as an infant (ie, they're not his birth parents). He was a sort of preternaturally well-behaved Child of the Damned-type. But you know what? Among other things, Rock & Roll music “Corrupted’ him. (Every concerned parent was wrong, except his!).

So far as we know, unless he's playing a VERY long con he has somehow, essentially, broken the psychic grip the "Masters" have on him. Basically by being a JD.

To him, most of the world is divided up into things that are “Cool” (things he can do) and things that are “Dumb” or “Stupid”. (things he can’t.) He has super-romanticized ideas about what being a “Juvenile Delinquent” means- real greasers aren’t philosopher-kings of the street, like he seems to think they are.

He can’t go back to his old life, but he doesn’t want to help with “the stupid Plan”, either. So, he rumbles with monsters for The Agency. Sometimes he gets beat up trying.
(He’s basically Greaser Worf, with a tiny bit of Ash.)

1st Session: Character Creation
Hi everyone! Here's what I had in mind so far :

Charm : +1
Cool  : -1
Sharp : +2
Tough : +1
Weird :  0

Look : Man, Stern face, Tailored clothes

Moves
I've Read About This Sort Of Thing: Roll +Sharp instead of +Cool when you act under pressure.

Precise Strike: When you infict harm on a monster, you can aim for a weak spot. Roll +Tough. On a 10+ you infict +2 harm. On a 7-9 you infict +1 harm. On a miss, you leave yourself open to the monster.

Haven
Lore Library: When you hit the books, take +1 forward to investigate the mystery (as long as his- torical or reference works are appropriate).

Armory: You have a stockpile of mystical and rare monster-killing weapons and items. If you need a special weapon, roll +Weird. On a 10+ you have it (and plenty if that matters). On a 7-9 you have it, but only the minimum. On a miss, you’ve got the wrong thing.

Panic Room: This has essential supplies and is protected by normal and mystical means. You can hide out there for a few days, safe from pretty much anything.

Gear
Cold iron sword (2-harm hand messy iron)
Juju bag (1-harm far magic)
Magnum (3-harm close reload loud)

1st Session: Character Creation
I love the idea of a greaser Worf, and Suri, who are your people? I have a feeling that soothing voice of yours is going to come in handy with my (as yet unnamed, still working on it) character from time to time!

I'm probably going to go with this stat block:
Charm+1, Cool=0, Sharp+1, Tough-1, Weird+2

The agent was supposed to be an infiltrator, and thus, they do know how to be sociable and the like. They're very into the American scene, largely because they were taught to fake it, but it really caught on with them. (Maybe a little Rock-n-roll corruption there, too, Monstrous!)

My Dark Side tags are definitely Secrets and Pain, though I'm still trying to choose the third. Lust, Rage, and Soul-less all sound like interesting RP hooks.

As for powers, I'll be shooting for:
Telepathy: You can read  people’s  thoughts  and  put words  in  their  mind.  This  can  allow  you to investigate  a  mystery or read  a  bad  situation without needing  to  actually  talk.  You  can  also manipulate someone without  speaking.  You  still  roll  moves as normal, except people will not expect the weirdness of your mental communication.

The Big Whammy: You can use your powers to kick some ass: roll +Weird instead of +Tough. The attack has 2-harm close obvious ignore-armour. On a miss, you’ll get a magical backlash

And I'm thinking for the third either Tune In or Hunches. Hunches seems more immediately useful, but Tune In seems more fun to play.

Well, the Agency (we can sort out which) picks "cover names" for people like him by picking a Biblical first name and a surname from this month's issues of TV Guide. So: Ezekiel ("Zeke") Nelson. H

is Earth family's classified, his alien name is "stupid" (ie, he cant pronounce it, so it's dumb.)

I should point out that the Worf similarity is that he over-romanticizes the culture he identifies with and gets beat up a lot. :)

If she needs a last name to fit in, I like the alliteration of Smith, so Miss Smith if that's how we're being listed.

And I suppose she struck a deal with the Dept. of the Exterior?

Right.  I haven't figured out exactly why she's been exiled, yet, nor just how long she's been down on earth.  I could easily see her as having been a nurse in WW2, hiding in plain sight.

Re: 1st Session: Character Creation
Okay I've been doing some thinking and writing.  I'm going to make a call that Miss Smith, Mr. Nelson and our Russian comrade all fall under the auspices of the Bureau of the Exterior based on their respective backgrounds.  It also explains why they have more normal names as opposed to code names like Mr. Twist and Mr. Galahad, the Bureau has provided them with cover identities so they can operate in normal society.

As far as background info for the characters, some suggestions you can take as you will...

Miss Smith: My go-to for angels on Earth is that God gave the angels free will millennia ago so they would have all the benefits of Man.  Some stayed loyal, some rebelled with Lucifer and some chose to stay out of things.  The one's that stayed neutral were banished to Earth, as they didn't rebel, they didn't Fall.  I guess it all depends on how long you want her to be operating in the mortal realm.  If want her to have come to earth more recently, I really like your idea of a nurse operating during WWII.  Perhaps Heaven ordered non-interference during the war, 'Let Man chose his own course', and she rebelled against the command seeing the horrors of war.

The Russian: First I have to ask if she speaks with an accent, or she's trained to the point of sounding like an American.  A Russian accent during the Red Scare could cause problems ;)  As for a background hook, how about she was sent to America for the purposes of espionage and her handler/partner was defeated/killed by agents of Majestic 12.  They sensed her reticence and 'turned' her in the parlance of spies.  As I said in my PM, the Russians are ahead of the Americans in the psychic sciences and they wanted an asset of their own.

Mr. Nelson: You have the completest background of any character, I don't really have any suggestions.

Mr. Twist: You have the least complete background of any character.  Any idea how he came into the services of the Bureau of Lore and Esoteric Knowledge?

We're almost to the point of Introductions and delving into the the History of the team and seeing how everyone is connected.  I'll reserve my introduction of the GMPC for last and let everyone else decide how they are connected.

So everyone know what they are getting into, I've posted a 'cold open' to the first mystery so everyone knows what they are getting into and who they are working for.  I hope you enjoy it.

That background works just fine. The handler was named Grigori, and used to joke that he was actually Rasputin. Take of that what you will.
Ms. Scarlet (A 'red' name if ever there was one) speaks English without accent. She was supposed to be a spy, so they trained her well. The thing is, they had to keep her full of -some- lies about American society, out of fear she'd jump ship immediately.

Re: 1st Session: Character Creation
This is how I imagined Twist joining... any and all thoughts are welcome

Mr. Twist is the son of a prominent scientist (or perhaps an agent?) who mysteriously vanished several years ago. Growing up, his father told him fanciful tales of creatures and realms beyond the mundane - they were presented as children's stories, but the details stuck. Twist was willed his father's journal, a book filled with cryptic notes and messages regarding his findings and work. After discovering there was more to his father than ever suspected, Twist became obsessed with finding the truth behind his missing father. Whether through his own efforts or simply by possession of the journal, he caught the attention of agency recruiters, and has been a company man ever since. With a code name inspired by the Dickens novel, Mr. Twist still seeks the reason behind his father's strange disappearance.

I certainly think it makes sense that after sitting out WW 1, she vowed to not do so again.  Primarily she's a healer.  Sure, all angels have divine weapons, and she can (and has) wielded her flaming sword to smite evil, but after His decree, she's chosen to change the course, and that's heresy.

Cool, I like both Mr. Twist's and Miss Smith's backgrounds.  Plenty to work with there.

So we are off to a good start, once Miss Scarlet is complete, we can start working on team dynamics.

Quick question, any preference to the 'home base' being Los Angeles or Las Vegas?  Both are intriguing during the time period, just wanted to see if anyone had a preference.  Feel free to chime in.

Kind of a toss up. Maybe we can break a tie by thinking of 50s "Atomic Horror" movies set in each.

I'll start. ;) LA has "Them!", Vegas has "The Amazing Colossal Man".

I think I'm going to go with 'soul-less' and 'tune in'...

...anything else I'm missing at this point? (Sorry if I'm missing something obvious. It's been a really long day).

I'm good with either location, leaning slightly towards Los Angeles, as I'd love to play out Scarlet's reaction to coming to Vegas for the first time, should we go there (fascination vs. disgust over 'western decadence')
