Chapter 1: It starts with a Giant?

Region: The Morrow Highlands
Location: Idodale, Tavern: The Grasping Giant
Date and Time: 3rd Elfin of Fara, Midday
Weather and Season: Warm and Sunny with a Light Breeze (Spring)

The City of Idodale is the largest among those claimed by Lord Bastion Morrow with a population some say exceeds 25000 souls. It's a fairly peaceful town with the Restian Way protecting it's southern borders, and the green hills surrounding it providing ample terrain for watchtowers to warn of any beast or army that would approach. The center of the city houses the Lord and his family in a large fortification of wood and stone, and is the largest structure in the town. The streets of the town are mostly paved with only the occasional dirt path down an alley way or newer expansion. Buildings are made of timber and stone, and are often more utilitarian than decorated.

The Morrow Highlands are home to some of the heartiest and down to earth folk in the entire kingdom, and Idodale is no different. Most vendors will haggle either coin or trade goods despite the economy of the city running mostly on silver coinage. A room at an inn in the city will on average go for 2sp a night, a plate of food and an ale would cost you 8cp.

However our group of adventurers has spent the last several days having been put up in one of the nicer inns in town, near the keep, The Humble Lantern. Their expenses having been covered for three days by decree of one of Lord Bastion's advisers, a man the group knows as Malcom Bedwinner.

Malcom is a tall man, with a wildly long beard and scars down his forearms. He carries himself as a warrior and advises Lord Bastion on matters regarding matters of lucrative business. He had hired the group to explore an uncovered tomb of unknown origin near the outskirts of the city. He had guaranteed finders percentage of anything that was recovered and returned; and indeed a chest containing a decent sum of gold, gems, and some ancient scrolls and writings were found deep within the tomb. They were brought back to Malcom and as promised you were each given a percentage and the rest was added to the coffers of the Lord.

However, the last few days have not been kind to the coin purse between the gold spent on carousing with the townsfolk, the repairs to equipment, new equipment purchased, and other miscellaneous expenditures. You find yourselves in a tavern in one of the more modest districts of the town, having lunch and making preparations for your next objective.

OOC: This is how we will begin, as I had mentioned this will be a sandbox game in a sense. There are various things to do here and afar that will trigger storyline's. You are at this point beholden only to yourselves, save for Darvan who is a Knight of Lord Morrow and would need permission to travel away from the city. I know this is a typical "You start in a tavern" but my hopes is that it will give you a chance to introduce your character to the game, and then will quickly get rolling towards an objective. Allons-Y!

Chapter 1: It starts with a Giant?
Fingering his coin purse idly Tarron swings his boot off the table and sits up straight, addressing his comrades, "My purse is feeling a little light today fellows, I think it's time for us to take on another job."

"Today?" He chuckles, "Mine have been light for a while already! That last job did not pay out as much as I have hoped."

Ventrio has a small knife in his hand that he is juggling as he speaks.

Darvan nurses his wine slowly, moderation being one of the hallmarks of his discipline.  He consciders their current fortune, or lack there-of.  It would not do for a Knight in the service of Lord Morrow to remain idle.  "Do you know"  He asked in his burnished baritone voice.  "if there are any other ventures near by, that we might try?"

"I take it that the job you intend doesn't involve honest work."  The dwarf cuts a slice of the morning's bread and lathers it with butter.  "You know, I wouldn't be surprised if Master Bedwinner has some more work in mind for us.  What with the way we've been catered for these last days."  Mason shrugs, "Most folk will cut a group loose after their service is paid for; not put them up at the local inn."

"I don't know of anything nearby at the moment, but I've a knack for finding out if that's what we intend," he nods at Darvan's question.

"If by honest work you mean manual labor, no I don't. I didn't mind working for Bedwinner, though ideally I'd like a higher percentage."

"I'd prefer to not go crawling though a dusty old tomb again if possible. Or at the very least, a tomb that is not filled with creepy crawly like the last one."
Ven shudders as he recalls the memories of their last adventure.

"Hmm..."  Mason bites thoughtfully into his bread and butter, "Well, my father always told me that the best way to learn  whats available was to stick an ear out and see what folks are talking about."  He gestures around the common room at the inn patrons.

"More like than not, if something is in need of doing, the folk what live in the area are going to be talking about it.  Whether its a group of monsters moved into the area, a tomb or dungeoun in need of delving, or even," the dwarf flashes a quick smirk, "new construction in need of skilled labor."

Chapter 1: It starts with a Giant?
The tavern is beginning to get a bit busier as folks come in for breakfast and to meet up with other members of the community for a variety of reasons.

A young lady has been serving your table since you arrived and she returns, "Can I get ya lot anythin else?" she smiles at Darvan, "...maybe another glass of Wine?"

From behind her, at the entrance of the Tavern, a group of 8 walks in together. They all appear to be wearing a uniform of sorts, with brown breeches, a white cotton shirt, suspenders, and a leather apron. They sit down at a table and one of the men in the group begins calling for barmaid to attend to their table.

Ven stabs the knife into the table and starts to twiddle his thumb as he leaves back on his stool. "Welp maybe we should go to Bedwinner. Some work is better to no work in my book."

Ercan, the priest of Obad-Hai was a young man with well-traveled, weatherbeaten look.  Everything he wore and carried was either shabby or looked hand-made.  During the expedition to the tomb, Ercan had not said much but had proved himself capable as a healer and warrior.

Now, as the morning sun glinted off the windows of the tavern, the priest frowns at his breakfast plate.  He was unused to cities and their trappings, even the idea of paying someone for a meal was something he was still learning about.  Ercan longs to be outside and among the trees.

"I'm interested in more work too," he says softly.  If Bedwinner had nothing, he would be content with simple travel down the road.

"No fair maid.  Thank you."  He replies, his tone neutral but polite.  "I will ask Lord Bedwinner if he has anything further that we might assist him with."

Re: Chapter 1: It starts with a Giant?
The young lady noded at Darvan, "Ok then, my names Esmer, holler if you need anythin'" she turned and bounded off toward the next table, seemingly happy to be doing her job. She stops in at the table where the 8 uniformed people had sat and takes their drink orders then makes haste back to the bar to get their beverages.
