Sanuzi and Tamarkorda arrive back at the Inn and proceed up to Gulk's room.  Recasting Spirit Sight, they can see Sandien's Fetch standing guard over her body.  You now realize that around Gulk's body is a sphere of darkness.  This could be her Fetch, or something different.

Sandein's fetch speaks to the two apprentices.

Good.  You have brought the Ancestor Ring.  There are two that you will need.  There is one braid of red hair bound by red and black beads.  This is for Serena the Ever-Laughing.  She was touched by Eurmal, and they may need a trickster to help them.  The other is brown hair bound by golden beads.  This is Venast Crow-Shadow.  He was a shaman of great strength, and one who has willingly helped Sandien in the past.  He will know if you need to do something on this side once he has seen what it is that has happened.  Finally, one of you can leave your body.  I will show you the way to Sandien and the little child of darkness.  This is all for you to decide, but be careful in dealings with Serena.

Tamarkorda confers with Sanuzi in an undertone taking in the scene around Gulk and Sandien.

Garik heads over to the lunar fort and chatting with his friend at the inn. He will be listening around for anything he can overhear and understand. Meanwhile, he will be bargaining with the innkeeper for selling him some clear wine.

The gossip is mainly from the soldiers, who typically grumble about the increased guard duty due to these demon attacks.  The one thing that worries them is that the north road, closest to Snakepipe Hollow is unusually quiet.

Anasan, the owner of the inn, and an initiate of Etyries, is more than happy to trade for clear wine.  As you negotiate, you over hear Anasan's wife and children gossiping about the Lunar Enlo being ill.  Yasmin, Anasan's wife is worried that if the Enlo dies, it will bring the wrath of the Spindle Hag.  Hofal, Anasan's son, is more worried that they would face the wrath of the Imperial Preceptor.

Anasan has a number of things to trade, from mushroom ale and cordials, herbal cordials, a few troll items, and some very fine pigments.

Sanuzi begins a song of losing oneself on a journey, only to find that the journey itself was the destination all along. It's a terribly intricate song, at times jaunty, at times melancholy. As he sings, Sanuzi grows more calm and concentrated.

After the long song is over, Sanuzi begins his spell to travel to Sandien.

Tamarkorda's chant helps Sanuzi to drift out of his body.

Sanuzi's loyalty to Sandien gives him strength as he enters the Spirit World.

Sandien's Fetch appears to the young spirit talker, and points off into the distance.  Sanuzi sees a silver path extending from the fetch toward an empty horizon.  This is when Sanuzi notices that he is on a barren plain; a view of the spirit world he has never seen before.

The Fetch's gesture helps Sanuzi understand that this was the path Sandien took, and so he begins his journey along another silver path.

Quickly the Fetch disappears from view, and it is easy to see that without the path, Sanuzi would have no sense of direction.  As he walks, the spirit-speaker notices another path coming into view.  Another silver path, but this time giving off a faint red glow.  The two paths intertwine, with Sandien's path overlapping the reddish one.  He realizes quickly that this must be Gulk's path.  As he steps on the intertwined paths, he notices that the world around him becomes red tinged, but that the light has illuminated a landscape that is not as barren as one would thing.  There are shadows of trees and grass, shades of animals and birds, figments of people going about their daily tasks.  The paths lead past all of these.

Eventually, the path reaches a hill that looks vaguely familiar.  Walking up the hill, Sanuzi has a sense of having been here before, but he does not remember it.  The path continues up the hill, and goes into a large cave about 2/3^rd the way up the hill.  The cave is large, taller than four men standing on each other's shoulders.  And it is dark, a darkness that has never seen light.  The way becomes difficult, as if the darkness resists the motion of Sanuzi.  But he persists, his loyalty to Sandien driving him forward.

Sanuzi does his best to take it all in and remember for next time, if there is a next time. He imagines Tamarkorda's chant as a sort of wall of words, some of the rune-like symbols forming hooks from which he hangs little images of this spirit realm. As he remembers a given part of the chant, he hopes, he will remember a part of this world.

As Sanuzi nears the cave, his focus turns to entering it carefully, tuning his senses to the darkness that seems to live here.

The cave goes deep into the Earth, but Sanuzi is uncertain where it goes.  Carefully entering, he descends deeper into the darkness.  Again, you love and devotion to your mentor comes through, and you remember her lessons on altering your senses in the Spirit World.  You embrace the feel of the darkness and it no longer hinders your sight.  The cave descends deeper and deeper, and becomes steeper, until it is a set of stairs seemingly chewed out of the rock.

Strange glowing crystals seem embedded in the walls.  Not a great many, but enough that you notice them.

The cave splits in two.  One roughly goes ahead, and you see the crystals in the wall.  The other branches off, and there are no crystals in the wall.  Your knowledge of spirits and the Uz tells you that the enlo shaman would choose the path with greater darkness, but you are uncertain.  Your senses tell you that there is great danger down both paths, but it is different.

We would (have) do(ne) it at the time that we thought it was necessary (under the guidance of Sandien's fetch).
So I guess the answer is yes - just as Sanuzi was discorporating, so that they could accompany him, (unless the fetch wanted to delay).

OOC:  thanks.  That's what I needed to know for the next few scenes.

If the fetch had other plans than them going with Sanusi to help, then I assume he/she/it would have told us.

I was referring to Serena.  You can release her for one service (what is happening now), but she won't come back to the binding item.  If you want her to come back, she will want something in return.

OOC:  I was waiting for Sanuzi to respond to the fork in the road, but I'll add something.

Venast Crow-Shadow, whose spirit looks like a man dressed in the costume of a crow, motions with his left arm/wing to indicate that the path of darkness is the one to be taken.  As you move down, the spirit of Serena, which looks like a mischievous little girl with a pug nose, seems bored.  Venast has a hold of Serena's left arm, possibly to keep her contained until needed.

Following the Ancestor Spirit, Sanuzi descends into darkness.  As he walks, he sees a number of spirits that appear to be slumbering.  These appear to be guardians of some form, but they are currently asleep.  You can feel Sandien's power in this, and you are sure that their slumber is thanks to her.  Venast hold Serena, preventing her from poking the sleeping guardian spirits.  Sanuzi has heard the Garlin family speak of these, they are some type of spirit of darkness, a demon.  But it does come as a surprise when Sanuzi sees a large cave open up where there looks to be houses and other building carved out of living stone.

In the center of this town, Sanuzi can see Sandien's power flare.

Approaching as stealthy as possible, Sanuzi sees that Sandien is fighting to free herself what appears to be an impossibly large Uz Mother.  This mother has gripped Sandien in her right hand, while in her left there is the unconscious form of another Uz mother.

Sanuzi is immediately drawn by Sandien's apparent plight and feels an urge to just rush in. Something... perhaps the snake?... causes him to pause and think. He turns to address Venast Crow-Shadow.

Wise Ancestor, Bridge between worlds, i humbly seek your guidance; Clever Serena, upon whom the Trickster shines favor, I beg a boon on behalf of my master over there, Sandien the Shaman. Is aught to be done by either of you or both that will release Sandien and the unconscious Uz from the greater one's control?

The wise ancestor spirit says...

You must distract the spirit that holds our friend, and then I can add my power to Sandien's.  Serena can grant you the use of her clever tongue and make you look like an Uz, but she will require a price.

Serena replies, ...

Yes, you must love me, caress me, and let me use your body to trick the stiff Earth priestess.

Back at the fort Tamarkorda continues concentrating on his measured chant, to express his affinity for harmony in what he understands to be a kind of healing operation that Sandien has embarked upon. Beyond the chant, he is more attentive to anything Sandien's fetch may try communicate than to anyone who may be physically present in the room..
