UZ encampment - Garlin Mushroom Caves

Magora is the only one in the cave with you, save for an enlo scribe that came with Ullr Lightbane.  He is recording what you discuss on a sheet of mushroom paper.

When you mention True Stone, "Bingling, you and your charges found True Stone?  Are you sure?  That is a rare mineral.  Few have ever seen it."

When confirmed, "do not speak of this outside of this cave."  Turning to the Enlo, "you as well, and blot it out from your notes."

"But Great Mistress Crag Spider wanted a full report," says the Enlo.

"Then you can give it to her in person, but no one else is to hear of this."

The writing of the Enlo fascinates Bingling.  Uz writing is chewed into stone and felt with the hand.  The eyes of the Uz were not made for human writing.  This Enlo wears something over his eyes and knows how to write the way humans do.  You know that human merchants do something similar in their business.

Bingling wistfully wishes he had the eyesight of the Enlo (or Magora), but he is happy as Uz. Argan Argar smiles on those who trade services as well as goods, and it is good that some are Value for this skill or that.

Bingling has noticed that this Enlo seems to have high status among the Enlo.  No Uzko would be deferential to an Enlo, but the way the other Uz looks at this one, you suspect that it is under the protection of something powerful.  The mention of Crag Spiders gives you insight as to who its patron is.

As the humans scurry about doing human things and showing yet again that they are the children of that thing called Time, Bingling enjoys the Sacred Week re-living of the eternal.

He pays more attention to the stories and dances now. He will also seek someone (asking Magora first) to repair his mace and shield, and to make sure that the Strength matrix still works aright.

Sacred week has not begun yet.  People are getting prepared.

Both Magora and Zelda are preparing Story/Plays for the sacred time ceremonies that will include the Garlin family.

Magora in particular is preparing the story of the Dawn from the Uz perspective (the return of Yelm to the Surface).  (This is critical to the mythology of Xentha).

Zelda is preparing the story of the exodus from Wonderhome.

UZ encampment - Garlin Mushroom Caves

Bingling returns to the Mushroom Caves.  Zelda and the warriors are preparing for an evening patrol.  Even though this is not their land, they have their orders to keep Magora and Jelmine (in general) safe.  It is the will of the Fire Witch.

Ullr Lightbane is meditating, which is not unusual.  His assistant, Ink Finger, is no where to be seen.

Magora is sitting in front of a small shrine meditating.

Bingling calmly sits near Magora to wait for her to finish, nodding his head and touching his chipped tusk in respect to her. He whiles away his time dreaming of dance steps.

When Magora breaks her meditation, Bingling nods again. If no one is nearby, he speaks quietly.

He starts with Darkspeech. "Desola gathers stories of the Green Age. Idovanus asks that I ask you of the same."

He then switches to Tradetalk. "Ask Magora what she knows of the spike and the earliest tales of your people.  Since she was once human, and would have been taught about the Green Age as a child, she may have learned more about the early history of your people than others of your kind."

"Such odd questions Bingling."

She pats the ground next to her, "why don't you sit and we can talk."

"I am curious as to why Desola and the Lunar official are both asking about the Green Age, but you are right, there are stories.  Zelda may have more than I do, as Xentha is not Uz, but a force of the world.  Like Kyger Lithor, Xentha is descended from the Darkness Rune directly."

"The Lunar is correct that I know the stores of both the Earth Tribe's Green Age and the Uz before Hurt Place.  The Ages though are concepts created by the God Learners as an attempt to map the Mythic Past."

"Since Darkness was the first element birthed from primal chaos by the Celestial Court, and since Earth covered darkness to protect it from Fire in the Sky, those of Darkness are the oldest of all.  Wonderhome was a place of peace for the Uz, and this did not change until the Sun fell into Darkness.  All but the most primal Darkess had to leave the home created by Earth, and flee to the surface.  With the absence of light from the surface, Xentha was 'born'.  Xentha had existed prior to this, but her purpose was fulfilled at that time."

"As with the stories of the Green Age, the Darkness went through namings.  Naming began before Fire was birthed, so the most primal names are known only to Darkness, and one entity in particular."

"Does this help Bingling?  Is there more  you wish to know?"

Sitting next to Magora, Bingling nods.

"I heard the human-kin speak of the Green as a time that would be dangerous for questing, and hoping no one goes there. From what I've often seen before, telling a human-kin 'It is hot, don't touch' precedes a loud yelp by thirty or forty breaths, tops."

He tilts his head.

"I know more about fighting spirits than I do about their lore. But I think the human lore of the Primal Dark may err. Do not their one-time meddlers say that Subere and Dehore are the children of the Father of Demons, and he the child of Nakala? To me this sounds like one of their attempts to re-gnaw reality in a way to take the center of the story from others."

"If they are right... You know how hard it is to be re-born Uz. you have heard how easy it was for Rashi and Esha to be re-born Uz. I wonder sometimes that they were twins. if the Father of Demons were a twin, would that not be a mystery? Ah, I know too little, my belly cannot hold enough knowledge."

"Humans fear Darkness, or at least most do.  It leads them to thing of Darkness as evil, but it is what is there when there is no light.  Light is brought in, it leaves, but Darkness remains, such as the shadows cast by stones and mountains."

"Demon is a human word and sums all that they fear.  Think of the Dehori.  Humans see them as primal evil, but they are neither evil or good.  They just are.  Humans see Uz as evil, because weak humans not under the protection of someone stronger, are food, for those so inclined.  This is why it is hard for Uz to have a good conversations about these things with humans.  They come in with their minds cluttered with concepts they have chosen to give to things, instead of just accepting things as they are."

Magora smiles, "you have read the theory that The Father of Demons is part of the cosmic twin.  If so, then he is his own grandfather.  Of course, time is meaningly in the mythic age."

"To answer your questions, the Green Age was something that occurred on the surface of the world.  The Uz and nearly all of the creatures of the Underworld were already named.  To Uz, it is just Wonderhome.  The time before Wonderhome is where sane Uz do not venture, for that is when Darkness was named.  That is the age where Uz dare not tread.  But we do not go to the Green Age, for that would mean we would have to leave Wonderhome and walk the surface."

"So, one of Sandien's apprentices interfered with her mother.  Do you think this is a curse, or something else?  It sounds like his spirit is trapped in the Green Age, which may explain Desola's interest.  If they seek a path to the Green Age, then they may need to use the Age of Plenty, which was the grand time of the Uz before the Sun fell from the sky."

"First, I would caution against any attempt to enter the green age.  Even an accomplished HeroQuester can create unforeseen and disastrous problems.  But there are other ways of exploring that Desola may seek to use.  I know that the Fire Witch has found ways to observe the events of the mythic past without interacting with them.  There are still dangers, and many she has sent have returned mad from the knowledge she has gained."

She puts her hand on top of Binglings, and looks into his eyes, "all you will have to say is the truth.  From Darkness did others emerge, and all of darkness was named when the first name was uttered on the surface.  Desola will know what that implies.  The problem is finding one willing to open the way.  There are only two I know who could do such a thing, Zelda and Ullr Lightbane.  I do not know the powers of the Lunar Enlo Shaman, but it would strain relations for Desola to approach her.  Zelda will want something in return, and I suspect it would be the eviction of the Lunars; again, a troubling prospect.  Ullr will also want something.  His order is knew and is bound to the Mother of Darkness, so what he wants or why he wants it will not be easy to ascertain."

"Zelda and Ullr might ask too much. And Desola cannot approach Gulk. While Gulk won't approach Desola unbidden."

He tilts his head as if to gesture about, while

"Your Mistress Lady Xentha is the Night. But is not Argan Argar the Surface Darkness? I think the Enlo shaman disdains me, if not for being Uzko then for not being Lunar, but they have not yet dismissed me."

With a grin he continues.

"Not Zelda nor Ullr would approve of me approaching Gulk. Umgar would be wroth. And Kora would roll her eyes and shake her tusks at me."

A mild shrug punctuates his glee.

"Would not Argan Argar himself seek this felicitous facilitation of friendship and trade?"

"Indeed Argan Argar would seek the most equitable arrangement," she says with a smile.  "Just be careful.  You also need to remember that only a few can easily gain access to the Age of Plenty, and even this has its perils.  While mistress Xentha existed, this was not her age.  I know little of the Lunar Ways, so I do not know the roads her Goddess traveled.  Beyond Kyger Lithor, only Subere holds the keys to that time.  That is why I mentioned Zelda and Ullr."
