Cumarinda Imbrex:
Dungeon Master:
I'll shoot out a post tonight to introduce Coin.
Anyone see the old Charmed shows?

I did! I was a fan too, but only really of Holly Marie Combs and Alyssa Milano. The change from SD to Rose Mcgowan made the show better for me. I also loved the nightclub and the musical guests.

I think another arcane type and another fighting type would be a good idea, when possible.

So Faolan is like Chris.

Why not both? Maybe a bastard sword? It can be used one-handed for longsword damage and two-handed for greater damage.

Re: (OOC) Chat Area Part 2: Welcome

Maybe just a MW buckler and great sword (adamantine, special)
Cold iron Morningstar

I think the -1 to hit is a good trade to boost AC +1

Anyone like something better than?
One very nice weapon
Adamantine 3k
Holy SurgeDMG2 (2000gp): 2d6 holy damage against an evil creaure as a swift action charisma bonus times per day.
Sudden StunningDMG2 (2000gp): Stun enemies for 1d4+1 rounds, with a save DC based on your Charisma, charisma bonus times per day.

Well got to make it masterwork, add in adamantine (3000) add in +1 magical bonus (I think 1000) and then the 2000 gp to the weapon so its about 3000+ gold per weapon. Where is holy surge located? So its up to 6000+ for a magic weapon.

Re: (OOC) Chat Area Part 2: Welcome

It bugs me they call an arming sword a "longsword." A longsword is a two handed sword. Except for in dnd.

Arming sword and langswords are the same thing and no, a longsword isn't a two-handed weapon. Its one handed but can be used with 2 hands. It doesn't really apply to you Coin :)

Falchion and Greatswords are definatly 2 handed swords. Longsword can be both but is uses with one hand. Bastard swords are exotic because they can be used with 2 hands or 1 hand and can use a shield if you got the exotic profiency.

With the lack of feats Forge, you'd be better off with say a longsword/shield combination (or any other light or medium one handed weapons) and another two handed weapon (greatsword, falchion, some sort of spear, maul, ect).

EDITED: Though it makes little sense as a bastard sword can be used in 1 hand or 2 hand but does more damae (shrugs) yet it seemed to be shorter. I think that got swapped. I don't think it really makes much of a difference and I think it was lumped together for longswords, lumped together for bastard swords, ect. I view a bastard sword as longer so say in Game of Thrones, I think Jon used a basterd sword not a longsword but its pretty mull and void.

Re: (OOC) Chat Area Part 2: Welcome

My favorite source is Shadiversity, as far as informal sources go. I find his info usually checks out, and he's entertaining as well, and has integrity.

If you think of it, it makes sense that a two handed sword is longer than a hand-and-a-half sword, just like your link says. For those more familiar with dnd than real world weapons though, I can totally understand the preference for dnd. People generally favor the first version of something they are aware of.

It wasn't a bastard sword getting switched with longsword by accident in dnd, it was the arming sword getting dropped and longsword moved to fill the arming sword by accident in dnd. Probably skipping bastard sword because it had already been set aside due to the special rules for changing handedness. But that's just a hypothesis.

In any case, I'm making my own system, so I've been paying close attention to such issues, so I can fix them in my system. Reworking weapons is one of the segments I'm currently working on.

Re: (OOC) Chat Area Part 2: Welcome

Honestly I know nothing of weapons. Pathfinder does it better to a degree. I think they just kept the basic system in DND and said the heck with it even if they weren't 'right' so to speak. I don't really care, to be honest. If you want say a arming sword, cool. IMO its just the same as a longsword anyways. Greatswords are a bunch of different swords. I'm not the best person to argue with nor the correct person to argue with about this subject. And I don't think the DND people really care so its a losing battle.

I'd be interesting in the game your coming up with.

Shortsword > Longsword > Bastard Sword > Greatsword. Simple :)

In real life my knowledge of using “cutting” weapons goes…
……Bokken, knife, katana, machete

Probably better to learn principles and go from there obviously blunt weapons have different mechanics

Re: (OOC) Chat Area Part 2: Welcome

Go with a Maul. Big hammer. I'd say its not a exotic weapon and does the same as a Greatsword but does blunt instead.

Think it is in Complete Warrior:
One Handed Weapon (can use it 2 handed)
1d10 Damage
15 GP
x3 Crit

I'd say for a 'Great maul'
2 handed weapon
2d6 damage
Say 50 gold
x3 crit

Don't have to though. Ton of weapons to choose from.

Re: (OOC) Chat Area Part 2: Welcome

Fair warning, my system is very much for those who appreciate casual simulationism.

One of the big changes I'm making to weapons is to make weapon reach and speed and damage type the big factors to consider with weapon choice rather than dmg. Shad's video on weapon dmg echoed my own feelings on the matter, not perfectly but pretty closely.

In any casem I'm a big believer in avoiding any situation in which a choice can be reduced to a single value that most, if not all, players chase as the sole important value.

Rating weapons entirely by dmg output for example, is something to be avoided.

I avoid it by making dmg types significant, and by making an inverse relationship between multiple important factors, namely speed and reach.

Speed affects initiative checks (which I use differently) and parrying, while reach affects to-hit, but a general trend is that bigger weapons have lower speed, higher reach, and sweep attacks and similar. Dmg is generally pretty similar, with higher dmg coming from certain designs, such as single edged curved blades. Still in progress and being researched though.

One aspect I'm adding is force, which can knock people over, crush them, etc, and is the big advantage for hammers and maces. Early stages on this.

Re: (OOC) Chat Area Part 2: Welcome

Sorta sounds like Skyrim. Big weapons move slow, got reach. Smaller weapons like swords you swng faster do less damage. Daggers do the least but you get a lot of attacks. Same principle really.
