(IC) The Village of Korthos

Following Fenris and Brankx, Fin paused as the village came into sight.  He likewise felt the enthusiasm which the wizard expressed, but something seemed OFF about what the rogue could see.

As the other two started walking again, Fin remained still and hissed under his breath, "Are you sure you just want to go walking into that village?  Given what we just went through, wouldn't a touch of caution seem ... I don't know, warranted perhaps?"

The dwarf, despite his intelligence, didn't think that the village might not welcome strangers, and with the thought implanted in his mind, he paused, and turning, looked at fin. "Guess Ye be right. I think the ordeal and seeing th' ships got me excited. What do Ye think?"

A grunt comes from the barbarian. He glances at the dwarf and changeling, shrugs and goes back to watching the village. He then starts to head towards the village cautiously after all the groups been threw.

Tired from their trek to the village, Fin thought for a moment and then shook his head.  "It's probably just my imagination running wild," he said with a bit of a grin.  "I'm thinking what you're thinking," he said to the wizard as he followed Fenris, "and hopefully that ship will be able to take us either back to where we started or away from here."

"Anyway,"
he continued as he walked, "just the sight of the ship seems to suggest the locals are accustomed to seeing strangers, so the danger is likely minimal."

As the group enters the town, a young woman approaches then from the graveyard. She looks to be rather upset. Coming outside, is a elderly man rubbing his chin. He looks to be human and goes over to them. Before she can speak, he nods his head."Welcome to Korthos Village. I am the mayor. What brings you here?"

The dwarf looks at the others with a smile, then speaks to the human. "Thanks fer your welcome. My name be Brankx, a humble practioner of the arcane, and my friends here are Fin and Fenris. We were setting sail on a ship a few nights back when we were attaked by a dragon, We awoke on the shore not long ago. I can honestly say, yer village is a sight. Would apreciate a place to stay, a meal, and a drink. "

He looked around the town with a smile. "Quite a beauitful place ye have here. perhaps ye can help us....do ye know anything of a dragon in th' area?"

The mayor rubs his chin and the woman sighs as they speak. He raises a hand to her to wait."There be a good place to stay at the inn and a meal. But may cost you. I will pay for it but I ask of you to do some things and to deal with that dragon. There be a mage that can aid but he is some distance off. An' you will have to deal with somethings happening in the crypts below this village. Oh and aid for someone within that's injured. What say you? Will you aid us? We got few guards now and this place does need a helping hand."

The barbarian grunts, watching them. He glances at the woman, who has her head lowered to the ground.

The dwarf looks at Fenris and Fin, clearly waiting for any indication from either, but turns and speaks to the mayor again. "We have little gold, but if ye willing to pay fer a meal and lodging fer some jobs, i'm all fer it. I can't speak fer the others here though."

He sighs and looks at the mayor in his eyes. "But first....Tell me of this wyrm, th' mage ye speak of and of these crypts."

Fin listened quietly as Brankx and the mayor exchanged pleasantries.  The mayor's offer of lodging in barter for some work also interested the rogue and so he nodded his assent when the wizard looked his direction.

"Also," he quickly interjected when Brankx was finished speaking, "we'd like to allow the woman to speak.  Go on," Fin encouraged her, "what say you?"

The mayor speaks."I heard it lies upon the mountain, some distance off. In a cave but none has seen it and returned. Now iffn you will aid us, we have something that protect this place from it."

He nods to the woman and she speaks up."My family owns the crypt. Strange things had been heard coming from it. But hard to make out what. I've been there some time in the past and it was quiet. If you do not mind would you check it out?"

Brankx sniffs and looks at fin. "Wyrms are a lot ter mess with. We will need help on that overgrown lizard." He scratches his chin. "Maybe that mage can help us. Me bein' a magic user myself, I wouldn't mind talkin' to him anyway.....professional courtesy and a possible ally and someone I can trade with" Brankx learnt quickly that most magic users were willing to trade in magic, something he could use.

Looking at the others, he shrugged. "But if th' wyrm keeps his distance from Ye town, I suggest maybe we look into Ye crypt first"

Fin nodded his agreement with Brankx's assessment.  "I have little interest in confronting a dragon given how spectacular our last encounter on the ship went," he said with a wry grin, "but I think we could barter room and board in exchange for having a look into this young lady's family crypt."

"Though, the more I think about it," Fin paused, frowning, "having someone versed in the divine could likely be a tremendous help.  Any chance your town has a priest or priestess that might be willing to explore the crypt with us?"

“Excuse me, did someone ask for help from a priest or priestess. While I'm not quite a full priestess, I am a full-fledged Acolyte trained in healing and other skills who has been invested with some of the power of Pelor. Hopefully, I can serve your needs.” spoke someone in a bright cheerful voice.

Following the voice to its source reveals a youthful-looking human female wearing the robes of a priest of Pelor over a chain mail shirt. She is of medium height, with wavy hair with the texture of silk and the color of fire, wide brown eyes, and sun-kissed skin. Around her neck, she wears a wooden holy symbol of a smiling Pelor secured by a simple hemp cord.

Stepping up to join the group she nods to the woman and says "Good day, Mayor. Good day new friends, I am Cumarinda Imbrex, a devoted servant of the Great God Pelor."

The barbarian just stares at the mayor and the woman. As the cleric approaches, he turns and watches her. His eyes narrow, looking more like a wildman then a actual elf. Fenris grunts towards her."Fenris."

The mayor nods his head."I feel going down to the tombs is the better bet. Help make sure the village is safe. We have one hurt man but no one can really help him. He maintains the item to keep this place safe but no one dares to go inside and check it. As for the tombs, no one knows what happened within as she's terrified about going down there. Like I said, aid us and you will have a place to stay and meals."

The other woman lowers her head and looks like she wants to cry. The mayor rests his hand upon her shoulder.

Fenris grunts and looks at them then the entrance to the tombs.

He looks at the mayor with a gruff nod and smile. "ye strike a fair deal....rooma dn meals in return fer checking on ye crypt. I ask that anythin' found thats not belonging to ye kin be divided between us. You have my word we will respect ye kin's resting, but if we are attacked, we will defend ourselves."

He then looks at the woman. "Don't worry...we will get to th' bottom o' this. If ye know anything that can help us, would help girlie."

Cumarinda nodded and smiled at the elf barbarian after being given his name. She reached out to shakes hands with the dwarf mage with a smile, “I am pleased to meet you Brankx and you too.” she concluded offering her hand to the half-elf thief. Continuing while shaking hands with Fin, “If we are going to try to solve the problems inside that family crypt, all of you should eat drink and rest. I will prepare for our upcoming journey by gathering my equipment.”

"Ah," Fin smiled at the mayor while taking the cleric's outstretched hand, "you say you have a man hurt that no one can help, but perhaps the lovely and talented acolyte Cumarinda of Pelor might have a look at this poor soul."

Releasing her hand, the rogue turned to the woman and looked into her eyes.  "While I myself have never heard of Pelor, I believe her smile alone might just cure a cloudy day!"

Cumarinda nodded in agreement when the charming half-elf suggested that she could be of help to a wounded man that no one else could help. “Of course if my healing skills cannot prevail, it will be by the grace of Pelor that I will succeed.”

As Fin’s eyes met hers she felt her face flush slightly and her smile grew, “Thank you for your heartening words. With Pelor’s help, I will do my best to be worthy of your faith in me. May I know your name, charming rascal?”

The woman takes off to get her gear and the mayor thanks them for helping out. Inside the tavern, there is a male human standing at the bar. Its empty. There is a stairs leading upstairs and a door near the bar leading elsewhere. A fire burns in the corner. Several chairs and tables line the area. He looks up and nods his head as the mayor enters. The man rubs his chin after the mayor talks to him and leaves.

The innkeeper leans against the bar."I can give you stew and water for food and you can rest by the fire."

Oddly the barbarian doesn't follow you in.

Brankx, looking at the inn, lets out an audible sigh and makes his way towards the fire. "Stew and water will be great thank Ye." He sits at the closest table to the fire, and placing his staff and pack on the ground, he opens his pack and removes his spellbook.

Smiling at the others, he speaks. "If we be going down a crypt, I suggest we rest th' night here. I want to revise me spells a bit to better prepare for anything down there."

"Fenris, are you out here?" he said as Fin looked around for his friend.

He packed the book in his pack and looked at the innkeeper. "Food and drink will have ter wait friend...but we'll be back " He grabbed his staff and started walking towards fin. "Can Ye track him boy?"
