Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

The dwarf, behind the others, looks at the passages with a sniff. "At this point, either way is as good as any.....so if Ye want to go north, we can check north. If we find nothin', we come back."

From the back of the group, Fin was unsure what might have caused Fenris to pause.  Watching behind as much as possible, he simply said, "Sounds like it's north."

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

The group goes north. On each side are closed coffins and a gate to the north. A lever lies on the wall.

Fenris tilts his head, drawing his courtblade but he keeps it down and sniffs a few times. He goes over to the gate and seems to be looking around it, as it isn't solid and then goes over to the lever but he doesn't go to move it.

Cumarinda pauses, looks thoughtful for a moment, then turns towards Fin with a smile asking, "I have called you a rascal for your sweet language but I still don't know what exactly your profession is? Maybe this lever and gate are something you know more about than Fenris and I do?"

Always with the smile, he thought.  "Rascal, scoundrel, rapscallion, jack-of-all-trades, rogue," Fin answered her smile with one of his own, "I've been called many things in my day ... and not all of them untrue."  He shouldered his bow as he stepped forward to the gate.

Fin closely examined the latch mechanism.

Brankx shook his head at fin, smiling. "Ye certainly be a rogue Fin.....charmer may need to be added to Ye list too"Despite himself, he liked Fin....charismatic and friendly. He even liked Fenris, but fin was more approachable.

"I'm sure Ye skills will come in handy before this is through"

"Well, then," the rogue said, straightening himself after examining the gate, "this seems a bit too obvious, but why shouldn't something be easy once in a while?"

Turning to Fenris, he asked, "Fenris, if you'd be so kind?" as he moved his arm, indicating the barbarian should move the lever.

The barbarian grabs the lever and lowers it and the gate is slowly opened. Fenris grunts and goes on in first.

The fire hair colored cleric followed closely behind Fin, her hand briefly resting on his lower back before they entered the room beyond the gate.

Unshouldering his bow once more, Fin turned to follow Brankx and Fenris down the passage.  "Really?" he responded to Brankx as they walked.  The rogue suppressed a grin as he felt the cleric's hand briefly on his back.

"The simple fact that we're walking into a tomb without any substantial knowledge of what to expect other than the mayor's concern about 'strange noises' coming from within already has me surprised," he said.  "Whatever comes next will probably move me from 'surprised' straight to 'flabbergasted,'" he joked.

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

The group finds a closed door to the north. To the west, a set of steps lead further downwards. Two closed coffins rest on the wall on either side.

Fenris growls as he turns, watching the cleric with her hands upon the rogues back. Odd. He pulls out his sword, aimed down and looks at the door then the steps leading further down.

Brankx, raising an eyebrow at Fenris's behaviour, looks at the Cleric and rogue and shrugs. He points at fin, indicating his ear, then the door. Grasping his staff, he steps towards Fenris and lets out a soft whistle, hoping he will turn.

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

Fin approached the two coffins with the thought that he would lightly rap on one just to see if "anyone was home," but he decided against it.  Doubtful our acolyte would see the humor in it, he mused to himself as he watched Fenris pause at the door.

Tilting his head as his shoulder is leaned on, he looks at the cleric and goes over to the doorway. His eyes narrow and he shrugs, and opens the door. It leads further down a step of steps.

Brankx smiles at Fenris, nodding his head, then follows. He looks at the others with a  smile. "Always comforted when i'm underground...feels a little piece of home, given this is a crypt excluded of course"

He follows second after Fenris, his eyes and ears peeled for sounds

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

After the young red-haired acolyte of Pelor stepped in beside Brankx, she briefly turned towards Fin and gestured for him to move in ahead of her "Please feel free to step in front of me beside our courageous warrior but be careful of the rabbit meal he's carrying." she brightly asked.

With a hand on her holy symbol, she spent a moment in reverent and silent prayer, her eyes closed and her lips hardly moving. The moment over, she opened her eyes and fell into step with the others.

Smiling, Fin bowed his head to Cumarinda.  "That hardly seems gallant, me going first with you being a lady," he said in jest, "but since you insist I'm happy to do so."  He stepped around the cleric, bow still in hand.

"Of course, a dwarf would feel most at home underground," Fin replied to Brankx as he followed the wizard down the stairs.  "For myself, I prefer to have the sky above as opposed to the ground."

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

The group heads down a flight of stairs. Two torches line the walls, oddly ignited illuminate the area. As they get to the bottom, Fenris holds a hand up. Inside the room there is a open coffin but from this distance hard to tell what is in it if anything at all. Four torches line the walls in every corner. There are two skeletons on the ground that look disturbed. Standing  in front of the coffin is a sahugain. It kneels down and looks like its praying.

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

Behind the group comes a deep, heavy tread, the sound of something very weighty and inevitable.  Those who look behind see a figure they likely thought lost in the wrecking of their vessel (save Cumarinda).  Over six feet tall, crafted of wood and dark adamantine, the solid warforged known as Ballast had been considered almost part of the ship, rather than part of the crew.  Ballast had been partially literally ballast, due to his over one-ton weight, and also acted as an assistant to the ship's carpenter, affecting repairs with metal and wood.  But when the dragon had attacked the ship, there was no hope for Ballast to go anywhere on the crippled vessel but straight to the sea floor.

But from the stray bit of seaweed around the warforged's neck, it seems that the sea floor was not a problem for a being who doesn't need to breathe.  Carrying a trident and hefting a waterlogged wooden shield, Ballast's green eyes catch the torchlight as he inclines his head to his companions, pleased to see they were not lost as so many others were.

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

Brankx was a little taken aback by the sahugain praying within the crypt. Though he didn't know much, brankx knew sahugain, by nature, were water dwellers....and needed water to survive. To see one here either meant it had access to water, or something was very wrong.

He held his finger to his lips, indicating quiet, and held 1 finger up....so as he could tell he saw only the one.

When he looked back and heard the footsteps, he smiled at the appearance of Ballast. He met him on the ship, and was curious about him, but due to the warforged being so busy, had little time to talk. He knew, however, that his presence was a good thing. he nodded at the warrior with a smile.  he huddled everyone together and whispered. "There be only one, but somethin' sits strange....they usually be water dwellers. still, they be ferice."

He looks to Fenris, who was still in the lead, to act after him.

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

Cumarinda was quite a bit more than taken aback by the sight of the wicked looking fish monster in the position of holy prayer. With her eyes wide and her mouth gaping open into a silent '0', she looked at the others long enough to catch Brankx's hand instructions.

Quickly closing her mouth, she then heard the heavy tread of something coming up behind them. Quickly noting the lack of concern from Brankx, she held her peace while staring as the warforged approached.

In the huddle, she whispered to the others, "Forgive me, who is this warforged being? It seems the rest of you know each other but I have not been introduced."

She looked back and forth to each of the others while awaiting the answer.

"Ballast, ship's carpenter, guard.  Fell to the sea floor during attack on ship; mild difficulty finding shore in darkness," the warforged says, quietly as it is able.  "Is the sahuagin a foe?"  He might have seen a few of the sea devils swimming around while he had been walking to shore, but lacking the enhanced eyesight of other races, he certainly may have been mistaken.

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

Fin grinned widely at the approach of Ballast, thankful the warforged survived.  The rogue pulled the seaweed off his neck and tossed it aside.  "Glad you could join the fun," he whispered, unsure of what the group intended to do next.  "As for friend or foe, I think we've yet to decide.  Water dweller or no, why would such a creature be offering prayer in a human tomb?"

He looked at Cumarinda, hopeful she might have an answer.
