Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

In reply to Dungeon Master (msg # 417):

Whispering to the party she asks, “Everyone listen for a moment. If you know what might be making the noise beyond the door, please tell us. Otherwise try to be ready for anything.”

With a confident smile the priestess of Pelor speaks to the warforged warrior, “Ballast, could you please join Fenris' side before anyone opens that door.”

With her shield in one hand Cumarinda calls upon her god to Bless them all just before the door is opened.

OOC: Preparing to cast Bless just before the door is opened.

Brankx, still A little dark at Fenris and his attitude, forgot that at the sounds.  He narrowed his eyes, grasping his staff tighter, his mind going over spells in his mind.

Ballast will move to join Fenris.  Once Cumarinda gives him the nod, he'll try the door.  If unlocked, he'll throw it open.  If locked, he'll bash it open!

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

The barbarian opens the door. Inside in the center is a pile of rubbish. Several bags are torn open and barrels knocked over. Rats move about. Its hard to tell how many of them. Some of them run out of the room by the groups feet. Fenris slams one down with his foot, smearing it against the ground. He grunts. The smell is rather retched.

Brankx, seeing the rats (And the squish from Fenris), as well as the smell, was overcome, and what little contents he had in his stomach, came up.

"Damn me..." he said, wiping the bile from his beard, looking at the rats. "...either they have a problem here or somethin' died!"

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

The rank fetid smell from the room struck Cumarinda and her face twisted into pinched sour expression that some might say looked cute. She rapidly shook her head back and forth, then blinked twice before her face returned to its commonly pleasant appearance.

"Good Lord, that smell is foul! Something must had died in that room!" she exclaimed.

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

The group doesn't spot anything odd. It does seem retched and it looks like something is making a nest in the center of the room. The rats move about, squeeking at the group but they are so small they don't seem to even want to harm them.

Brankx, froth still in his beard, wiped his mouth with his sleeve and raised his eyebrows. "Foul smell is an understate girlie!' The dwarf burped, still a little green, but shook it off.

He watched as the warforged advanced, ready to cast a spell if need be

The young priestess of Pelor raised her shield as she saw the two huge rats leap from their nest to attack Ballast. "Unggghuh! Now I see what foulness causes such a stench! Fenris help put those rats down now!" she commanded while raising her shield.

The dwarf, out of instinct, raised his hand and cast the first spell coming to mind, shooting arcane bowls of energy wars one of he rats.

One of the large rats die by the dwarf's missiles. When the cleric orders Fenris to attack, he looks at her, eyes narrowed and he grunts. The elf moves from her, and watches the rat. What is he doing?

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

Ballast had been startled by the rat, and was curious at Fenris' actions.  The barbarian had never lacked the will to fight, so perhaps there was a reason why he didn't now.  Ballast drops his sword for now and reaches out with one large hand to try to grab the rat by the scruff.

OOC: 20:14, Today: Ballast rolled 25 using 1d20+10.  Touch Attack to initiate the grapple. I know I'll draw an AoO and that's fine.
20:15, Today: Ballast rolled 26 using 1d20+10.  Grapple check. For when it becomes relevant.

Cumarinda looks at Fenris with an expression of surprise and incredulity. She starts to speak but is interrupted by Ballast's actions. Looking between Ballast and Fenris she asks, "What is going on here? Why are we not destroying these foul rodents that have attacked us?"

The barbarian stares at the cleric. He shakes his head, and looks at the nest then at the cleric.

Easily the fighter is able to grab onto the rodent. It hisses and bites but can't get a good shot at the warforged.

Ballast shrugs and tosses the carcass of the large rat aside.  "You did not attack, so I thought there was a reason why.  Perhaps there was something different about the rat I did not see."  Ballast leans over to see if there is anything of interest in the nest.

An expression of surprise crosses the young woman's face as she studies the nest. She nods and turns back to address Ballast and the others. "Oh now I see it. There's a hole down there. It looks to me to be just wide enough for the large rats but too small for any of us."

"Well, none of us will fit there, so let us go another way."

Ballast takes a look around the room for another door, in case he missed it in the scuffle with the rats.  If no door exists, he'll say, "Let us go back to the main room to take the next door."

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

There is another door which is closed and the one they came through. Fenris stares at the cleric and starts to check the room. He grabs some old barrels and puts then near the nest. Finally he finds one that might fit the hole and goes to stick it down there probably in a attempt to seal it up.
