Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

Brankx, blinking in the light, couldn't believe the restorative powers of the room....The brief rest and he felt like he'd slept for days. Quickly reading his spellbook, he realised that some spells that were inscribed by his master also made sense now, and utilised the opertunity to memorise one.

Once that was done, his focus went to the items, taking out the belt for safe keeping he placed it with the rest of the stuff and analysed each. He sighed and started talking.

"This belt is unusual....it seems to effect ones gender and changes it. The boots aide in climbing....an elvish trick I believe. The goggles enhance Ye senses. The gloves I'd recommend fer someone nimble....they will enhance skills. One ring enhances someone's judgement skills, one their charismatic outlook, and th cloak aids in overall hardiness."

He looks at the group.

"Th staff is quite a piece of work....suited fer necromancy spells. Dark stuff. As powerful as such a staff is, I'll not use that as it dampens all spells not if necromancy."

<OOC: the items are as followed

Belt of Gender Bending
Boots of Climbing +5
Goggles of Alertness
*+2 to Spot and Listen
Gloves of Dexterity +2
Ring of Wisdom +1
*Gives +1 to Will Saves
Ring of Charisma +1
Cloak of Resistance +1
+1 quarterstaff of necromancy. +1 to necromancy spells, -1 all other spells>

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

Ballast:
"It is good to have another native.  But why risk yourself down here with the dangers of the sea devils and other monsters?  We are doing this because our ship wrecked and we need to pay for our passage and upkeep.  Are you in need of gold?  Or is this for... fun?" Ballast persists.

Dimble smiles a bit at the line of questioning, "A bit of both I would say. Apprenticed to an apothecary I do not earn much, but also a family member took up the adventuring life for a while. I know it be a dangerous life, but hearing their stories of friendships forged and obstacles overcome, well I wouldn't mind that as well...so in a crazy way maybe some fun as well."

As the light fades he blinks his eyes, talking a bit excitedly, "See that is what i am looking for, something beyond the mundane"

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

With her arms crossed the woman introduced as Cumarinda silently watched and listened as the gnome came into to join the rest of the party.

She is a young human female wearing the robes of a priest of Pelor over a chain mail shirt. She is of medium height, with wavy hair with the texture of silk and the color of fire, wide brown eyes, and sun-kissed skin. Around her neck, she wears a wooden holy symbol of a smiling Pelor secured by a simple cord.

She silently eyed the newcomer, only pausing to look away when she felt the full restorative power of the room and hearing Brankx's descriptions of the magic items they had discovered.

As Dimble settles back adjacent to his belongings, Cumarinda uncrossed her arms and approached him. With a heartwarming smile and a bright, cheery voice she spoke, "I apologize for not introducing myself before. I am Cumarinda Imbrex, a skilled cook, and devoted servant of the Great Sun God Pelor."

While extending her open hand, she continued, "Well, I think we may have discovered and destroyed all the evil that was to be found here. I prey to the Shining One that it be so. If not then worry not, I can bring to bear all the skills I have been taught along with the healing power of the Sun Father."

The elf definatly doesn't seem to like the gnome. He snorts at him, moving to 'protect' the cleric from danger. Fenris looks at all the new gear but doesn't reach for anything. He looks at the belt and then the gnome."Test it."

Having returned to checking his gear, pulled out a little owl out of its resting place in his pack and perched it on his shoulder. He had not batted an eye at the mention of the found treasures, he was not here when they were found so could not stake a claim.

As the young lady approaches him and speaks Dimble turns around to greet her. He is surprised by the sudden actions of the elf. "I would shake your hand but it appears your friend still does not like me. I get the lack of trust he has as well," he locks eyes with the barbarian, "but to ask someone you do not trust to put on an item obviously we do not know the full repercussions of just to prove themselves is a most uncouth and cowardly thing."

Looking back at the young woman, "Not much reasoning with him is there?" He slowly looks between her, the elf and the belt as if weighing his options, "I mean if he wants to see what I'd look like as a female, a simple illusion would do that."

The wizard gets up and looks at Fenris. "Fenris....leave him be. With Fin doin a runner on us, we need someone with keen eyes and skills."

He walks over to the elf and takes the belt from his hand, narrowing his eyes. "What Ye thinkin! Magic isn't something Ye play with. " He puts the belt in his pack, as well as strap the quarterstaff to it, and picks up the cloak.

"Let's keep movin. Cloak, you can come, but until Ye prove Ye worth, people will not trust Ye. Down here its deeds, not words. Keep Ye eyes sharp and have our backs and Ye will be fine." He looks at balayst and Fenris. "..and you two remember this when the gnome saves us from a trap, ambush or somethin'. He may be new, but down here with things like mummies and water demons, WE need all the help we can."

The dwarf shoulders his pack, mumbling. "Damn me....the Cleric is th only sane one!"

He packs up the gear and looks at the group. "If that's all th places, let's get out of here and see that mayor. He'll want to know about th demons and th undead" He looks at the gnome. "Earn Ye way and do right by us and Ye will become on o us. Until then, Ye have to accept Fenris's mistrust....and hear me, if Ye betray us, Fenris will be the least of yer worries."

He looks at the others. "Try play nice." He looks then at Cumarinda. "May pelor help us both!"

The barbarian slams his hand against the wall, the blood starting to ooze down it. He stares at the dwarf, eyes narrowed and then back at the gnome. Sheathing his sword, he grunts and lowers his eyes after he looks at the cleric. His eyes go to meet hers and he paints his face with his blood. Freaky. He crosses his arms, seeming to calm down slightly and stands near the cleric waiting for her.

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

Shaking her head and looking over the group she briefly frowns, then takes on a more authoritative look as she addresses them, “By the Sun Father's beard, let us all work together to leave this tomb and step forth back into Pelor's shining light!”

First she turns to Fenris, speaking patiently and smiling while tenderly bandaging his bloody hand, “I am grateful for your strength and willingness to defend us from harm. We also appreciate that you keep from harming this strange gnome who none of us knew from before. Please continue to have patience with him while we all make our way out. Play nice and you will be rewarded afterwards my Fenris.” She ends her words to him with a gentle hug before turning away.

Turning to Brankx she says calmly, “You speak truth and reason, two languages that aren't always heard no matter what tongue they are spoken in. Thank you for your insight and your gift with magic.
As we agreed before we should use these items wisely until we leave and then offer them back to the woman whose family owns this crypt. I trust you to care for the items that we don't take for our individual use. Thank you, Brankx.”

Turning her attention to Ballast, “Thank you for staying with us, I hope we can count on your strength and sturdiness in our future quests. I believe that you are here for a good reason and I would like you to continue to stand with us.”

Lastly she returns her attention to Dimble, “Before you came, there was one with us who had similar skills to you who we trusted, fought and bled alongside. With no warning he seemed to vanish, leaving us concerned that perhaps something foul befell him. Then our searching revealed his note to us explaining that he had simply abandoned us.” The young cleric looked at him with a sorrowful gaze, “There were so many evil creatures both living and undead found in this tomb I think you can imagine why someone might find trusting a stranger, even one with a good explanation, a little difficult.” With a reassuring look and a slight smile, she added, “What my dwarven friend says is good advice, patience and a willingness to do what is right will help earn our full trust.”

The barbarian tilts his head like a puppy dog. Seriously you tell someone that does bad things to be nice and expect it to go well! Ha! He follows the group to the entrance and they look around for the woman who sees them. The area is slighly cold but not unbearable and its cloudy. She approaches them, giving the barbarian a odd look as there's blood on his face."So what was causing it all?" She looks as if she was crying, the whole situation must have made her nuts.

Brankx leaves the tomb, breathing a deep breath of fresh air. Even though dwarves favored underground, that kind was not what he had in mind. When the woman approached, he looked at her. "Easy lass....we found somethin that caused her stories."

He looked at the rest of the group, then the woman again. "We found several water demons, Sahugain Ye call them, searching th place. They were up ter no good, creating undead. Maybe their purpose was to use em on th town, or fer some other reason, but either way, th demons and undead are no more."

He put his hands in his hips. "We also found some items of power down there...without them we would have been sorely pressed. But as it is yer family tomb, Ye have first right to them."

The woman who looks like she's about to break down nods her head. She looks at the items, tears on her face and shakes her head."Keep them. If you can use them to defend Korthos so be it. As long as my family's remains are intact I am fine with it. Was anything changed or anything worse then what it was? I can have the bodies removed if any. As much as I would like to take the items and put them back within the crypt...." She lowers her eyes."The mayor has other things you can do. And as I can tell you meet Cloak?"

The barbarian watches the woman, with blood on his face. He grunts, crossing his arms."Keep them?" He looks puzzled. Family heirlooms should be kept in the family."Heirlooms. Feel bad." Really?

Brankx listens to the woman, and when Fenris added his bit, the dwarf nodded. "What he says is true. Any items that are dear to yer kin, Ye should keep them. Any that aren't we will use ter keep Ye town safe. Some o the dead were raised by th demons...they may be yer kin or not. Other than that, the rest remain undisturbed."

He looked at the group, then back. "Help will be needed to remove th demons."

He sighs then looks at the woman. "Is there anyone here that deals with magic...an arcanist or merchant?"

Cumarinda brushes herself off and with an affectionate smile warmly hugs the woman, holding her close and speaking sympathetically, "We understand the bonds of love and family attached to these honored heirlooms. As our brave and smart dwarf friend has said we brought them to you because they belong to your family. We also know that neither you nor your ancestors would want them to become tools used by evil."

While releasing her, Cumarinda looks into her eyes continuing to speak. "We thank you and your family for the gift of those items that can help us keep you and the village safe. I'm sure your ancestors would approve. We have laid to rest all those who raised by evil. The majority continued to lay in their final resting place."
The young red headed cleric gently grasped the woman by the shoulder and added, "I believe that we have cast out all the active evil that was disturbing your families crypt, I will cast blessings upon it in Pelor's name tomorrow morning. I know you will call upon us if you are troubled again."

"Cloak, if you are willing, and prove yourself, then all is well.  Having someone disappear and new person come upon us abruptly was startling, as our healer said," Ballast says.  "What may come next will require much courage."

In regards to the woman who hired them, and asked after the state of the tomb, "I can remove the sea devils and put back what I can to rights this evening."  Ballast had no sense of smell, and previous sailors had indicated that handling the dead was not a well-regarded task.  He hoped that by just putting the approximate parts back in the approximate containers would be enough if they had missed any.  "We thank you for the use of your kin's items."

Once the woman has gone, Ballast has a question for the group.  "I have interest in finding out where the dragon that attacked our ship lairs.  It would take little for a creature like that to cause much harm to this place."

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

Seeming rather confused with everyone talking all at once, the barbarian steps back and he looks at everyone. Fenris keeps backing up a good distance.

The woman looks at everyone and she finally talks once everyone is completed."We have a apothecary and little in the way of magic unfortunatly. A few potions here and there scattered around the village. I am sorry." She looks at the wizard once more."I got nothing left to give, yet it seems you want more from me? I allowed you to keep the treasure, my family heirloms and now...." She looks rather confused on this.

The mayor arrives and puts his hand on her shoulder."Greedy?" He watches the dwarf."But a dwarf nonethless. Its to be expected. They did what was asked, and it was a mighty thing." The woman nods."I know. It is appreciated."

Taking a deep breath, the mayor speaks."The man that was hurt is in a coma. My brother. We do not know who harmed him but I feel it was the Sahugain. We had a crystal that protected Korthos from danger but it was damaged and is not whole anymore. I know where the locations could be. Theres two I know of. There is also a mage and I believe he is in the ruins hiding out. A good man but perhaps he lost faith." He watches the group."I know I have asked for many things but will you keep helping us out? I believe by combing the crystals it will be enough."

The dwarf narrowed his eyes, clearly not impressed at the insult despite the woman's misunderstanding. "I ask nothin of Ye.....in fact we offered to return all we found if it was Ye kins, so I don't appreciate being called greedy. My request fer magic or a merchant was fer my personal use...if we are to stay here and help Ye, we need to restock and prepare."

He looks at the mayor, a glare and a point. "We had a deal, and I honour that. We offered to return Ye kins gear if it was close to her heart, and then Ye accuse me of greed. I don't appreciate that after helping Ye. He stands with hands on his hips. "If Ye want my help, Ye have to understand somethin. What we faced was strong, and I ran out of magic down there. When that happens, I felt..." He closed his eyes, clearly pained, but looked at the mayor again, a steel edge in his eyes. "When I am part o a team, I do EVERYTHING I CAN to protect me kin, and when in a group like this, they are kin....even grumpy elves with attitude."

He looked at Fenris with a smile, then back at the mayor. "I need to prepare to keep us alive, and need stuff fer that. If we all agree to help Ye, then we are all in. But know this....Ye assume something of me again, or Insult me kin again, and Ye will have no more help from me."

He snorted, but continued. "I can not speak fer others, but I have spoke my mind and wait fer the others to speak"

Ballast is troubled by the woman's sudden accusation.  "You... you asked for nothing, only information," he says to Brankx, his voice colored with confusion.  "Why accuse you of such things?  We only wished to pay back our debt for aiding us after the shipwreck."  He turns his attention to the mayor.  "Such accusations are unfounded.  The woman is troubled by the disruptment of her family's tomb, but there was no need for such verbal attacks."

He nods at Brankx and the others.  "We do wish to help, but not if our help will be met with suspicion.  To my kind, suspicion often ends with dismemberment.  If the woman does not wish for us to use her family's items any longer, we will return them.  We never assumed we would keep them.  We are not greedy.  We are simply surviving on our own talents and merits."

He turns to face the Mayor fully.  "Possibly we may be able to help you with this missing crystal and hermit, but we will discuss it privately and give you our decision later.  Now is a bad time to make decisions."

Dimble had sttod quietly watching the exchanges not really knowing what to say as he had just joined these people. Finally he turns and asks Brankx flat out, "Are you speaking of restocking the components you need for certain spells? If so a good many ingredients used in apothecary works, and I am certain master Gaelen would be willing to help iyou in some way. Used to travel with my mother he did."

After a few moments pause he turns towards the mayor, speaking while the mqyor was extending his hand to the dwarf, "It is not being greedy if they actually intend to use the items to help the town. I do not know your original agreement with them, but keeping it in place, do we not see occasional ships dock that every now and then are carrying magic items for trade in other ports. Mayhaps when they do, you can make a few inquiries and see if they would be willing to conduct some trades with these brave adventurers, the better equipped they are after all the better they can help this town."
