Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

Brankx holds up his hand in apology. "While i have some coin, master, me coin will not stretch that far yet. But it does me heart goot to know ye have such skiils in alchemy. Fer now i will take me leave, but rest asured, i will be back.  And if ye need anything...exotic materials, thyen I can keep me eyes open fer ya. Fer now, I will leave ye good elf, but will be back, I promise ye."

with that, the dwarf leaves the apothecary, a thoughtful look on his face as he travels to the inn

"Don't understand women." The barbarian seems confused."Fine." Fine with what? He walks by the cleric, still looking out of it.

The young cleric quickly wipes away her tears and says a small prayer before catching up with the barbarian. "Most men don't. Some don't even care to try" she says under her breath. Turning her full attention to Fenris she smiles again and says, "We are supposed to be gathering rations for our next trip. So lets find a merchant who has what we need. And I'll be happy to do the talking so you don't have too. Hmm... maybe we can find some herbs and spices to make our meals better."

The shopkeeper rubs his chin and before the dwarf leaves, he does speak."So got something for trade then?"

Cumandria/Fenris: Outside (Main Square)
The barbarian stops and looks at the cleric."I hunt. No need to find food. What we need I can get." He seems serious about this and shrugs."What do you need?"

Ballast: Boat Ramps
Two young boys that look human walk along the boat ramps and stop as they see the warforged. They tilt their heads and walk up to him."What are you?" It sounds like a odd question.

An odd question, but one that amuses the warforged.  "I am a warforged.  I was created by magic in a magical forge.  I am a person, like you, but I was created in a different way.  I repair ships and I am good in a fight.  Would you like a little wooden boat?" Ballast asks, and hold out one little boat to each boy.  "I am called Ballast.  What are your names?"

"Well we need travel rations, in case we are some place we cannot hunt or gather the food we need. I'd also like to get some spices so I can better cook the food we can hunt or gather." the young priestess said with a smile. "Besides, if we find a good baker we can get tasty breads with honey and fruit."

"A belt that alters genders? Rather interesting. I will make a deal. Belt for potions and I can make you some scrolls." It seems like he is getting the better deal on it but its hard to tell.

Cumandria/Fenris: Outside (Main Square)
A grunt sound comes from Fenris."Tavern. Find baker." Oddly he doesn't look at the cleric and keeps moving but lets her keep up as he looks around. He stops a elderly woman."Baker?" The woman steps back, watching this rather gruff warrior staring at her."Come come." She mutters and heads into a small home.

Ballast: Boat Ramps
The boy takes the boat and looks at it, and holds it out to the other boy."Billy and Bobby. We're brothers." Billy stares at the warforged."Can I get another boat?"

Brankx had a furrowed look on his face...he suspected this elf was a shrewd man, someone who could bargain.  But Brankx himself had no use for the belt.

"he have a deal master elf...th belt fer potions an some scrolls." He holds his hand out to shake the elfs hand with a wry smile.

"...an th offer get rare materials stands. Ye give me a list and I'll keep an eye out fer ya and bring then next I'm back"

"Are you a Harbormaster, Billy, who needs many ships?" Ballast asks in return.  It makes a few more strokes on its current carving.  "Or perhaps instead I could carve the name you give your ship on it for you."  The warforged's face is immobile, but it tries to put a bit of a smile into its tone.

Brankx smiles....the elf was shrewd but fair, someone he could work with. He reached into his pack and retrieved the belt and handed it over, then picked up the potions, making sure to pack them safely.

"time he shall have, my friend. we are about to help your mayor on another task. May your skills bring you good profit, my friend."

He shakes the hand of the elf and leaves the stood, heading for the inn.

"That I can do."  Ballast carefully carves each boy's name into their boats as he talks.  "The ship I was on was attacked by a dragon, and my companions barely made it to shore on the wreckage.  I sank straight to the bottom, because I am very heavy and do not swim well.  But I don't breathe like you do, so I was all right.  It just took me a while to walk along the sea floor to get here, as it is dark down there."

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

The wizard gains what he wanted for now and heads for the inn. Meanwhile, the barbarian and cleric talk to the baker. Or more like the cleric. Fenris doesn't say a word and stares outside. The baker agrees to give the group six loaves of bread and a variety of nuts and berries before they leave and head for the inn. The warforged makes the small boats, speaking to the 'harbormaster' and then leaves heading for the inn as well.

Inside its a decent inn. There is a set of steps leading upwards to several rooms which are visible from the main hall. In the center is a bar with a large brick area probably for food and another what looks like a chimney straight ahead for warmth. It seems rather quaint. There are several tables and chairs. The mayor looks up and waits for the group to enter.

Ballast says to the boys, "I wish your ships a good sailing, and yourself a good day."  It being the appointed hour, he'll brush himself clean, put away the remainder of his blocks and his whittling knife, and go into the inn.  Spying the mayor, Ballast will go and find a good place to stand, being as a wooden chair would snap under his immense weight.

"Mayor," he says in greeting, and pulls out his new shield to inspect it.  "I was salvaging in the harbor and found this shield in a wreck that had sunk about three hundred feet off shore, perhaps a year ago.  Do you recall what ship that was?"

Brankx walks in as the warforged speaks with the mayor. He sits to the side, looking at the shield with narrowed eyes. To survive salt water for a year and show no sign of rust was unusual. "Nice shield Balayst."

He looks at the mayor and smiles. "I be sorry fer speaking so bluntly earlier....Ye have done me right in th town, and shouldn't judge Ye on one persons views....even if they be grieving." He holds a hand towards the innkeeper. "An ale to warm me bones master."

After arranging with the baker to return for the goods they've agreed on, Cumarinda brings Fenris with her to the meeting with the Mayor.

She takes a seat silently beside Fenris and waits patiently for her fellow party members to finish their individual business with the Mayor before she speaks.

Taking a deep breath, the mayor speaks."The man that was hurt is in a coma. My brother. We do not know who harmed him but I feel it was the Sahugain. We had a crystal that protected Korthos from danger but it was damaged and is not whole anymore. I know where the locations could be. Theres two I know of. There is also a mage and I believe he is in the ruins hiding out. A good man but perhaps he lost faith." He watches the group."I know I have asked for many things but will you keep helping us out? I believe by finding the crystals it and bringing them back will be enough." He watches the group."There is also a storage area and no one will go inside."

OOC Took this from a previous post. Probably overlooked.

Ballast asks to clarify.  "I am willing to help your kinsman; just tell us where you suspect the crystal to be.  And what do you know about the mage?  His name, his rank, his schooling or talents?  Are his magics protective and defensive, war magic, or of another sort?"

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

"Which do you want to know? The crystals, the mage or the storage area? The mage is the most important who could tell you where the crystals are. The location of the crystal could be in the ruins about a day away where he may be and it would be greatly appreciate if you could get him to come here. We have a crystal here but it is broken. The two are link-the mage and the crystals as he made it. He would know possibly where one may dwell. As for the storage area in town it is the closest but no guard will go inside and one who is in a coma cannot answer the questions." The mayor seems worried."He's a mage. He has no rank and I do not know what he can do. Lars Heyton is his name. You visited the tombs and his ancestor named them from him. Because of the crystal being destroyed, the village will slowly turn to ice and everyone will die. He is a descendant of the famous Heyton bloodline of Korthos Village who has protected the island for many generations but since left the village as he felt we were ingrates. His ancestors aided us in the past and they once lived here many years back. All of his relatives were either killed or passed away and the only relative is the woman whom you met. She knows little of him."
