Ballast waits for Fin to finish his statement, then his shoulders shift as if in a sigh.  "If you cannot unlock it, than I can try to force it open," he says.  "I did not bring the chest here for decoration.  It seems a strange and inconsistent thing in a tomb, for there was no coffin."

"I should hope it wouldn't come to that," Fin said to Ballast as he dropped his backpack to the floor.  The rogue removed a small case of tools and went to work on the lock.

The chest gets opened up by the rogue. Inside, there are two scrolls, a short sword, a pendent and a dagger.

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

Ballast reaches in carefully and extracts the scrolls and pendent, passing them to Brankx and Cumarinda.  The dagger and short sword he brings out and lays flat on his broad palms for Fin and Fenris to peruse.  Both were very small weapons for him; his body alone could be a weapon if he lost all else, so they were likely better off in other hands.  "Likely magic things to the magic-users for their learned opinions.  This sword and dagger have any use for either of you?"

Brankx looks at the items, and looks up. "Hand th' dagger and sword here boy."

He lays the items out in front of him, rolling up the sleeves of his robe, and begins chanting softly in dwarvish <OOC: Casts Detect Magic on the items>

He then, after the cleric, looks at the scrolls to determine what they were.

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

After she and Brankx examine the two scrolls, Cumarinda asks to take one, leaving the other to Brankx. "I would like to hold the Protection scroll for later use unless you feel that you need it." she says to the dwarven wizard.

Addressing the party as a whole she adds with a smile, "I have no interest in either sword nor dagger except to see that they do not end up in the hands of evil."

Brankx looks over the items, not suprised by the results. "Seems all o' them have magical properties. Th' dagger, sword and pendant I'll need to identify them."

Brankx hands the scroll to the priestess with a nod.

Fin smiled inwardly as he watched the cleric take the scroll from Brankx.

He looked at Fenris and said, "I could use either the short sword or the dagger, or neither.  Completely up to you, my friend."

"Let us go and find what is making noise down here.  Can we get through the magical wall?" he asks of the others.

Tilting his head, Fenris goes to gently grab the hand that's waving at him."I did not grab it. He did." He seems rather confused by this and glances at the warforged. The man grunts and looks at the group before turning and heading up the other area and up the steps near the gated area that is where the chest was found.

The rogue then turned and followed Fenris.

Brankx, staff in hand, stores the scroll in his pack determined to study it later.

He looms at cumarinda with a smile.  "ye may not get used to it lass, but these lads tend to be a bit eagre borderin' on recklessnes."

The dwarf shrugs....for a mage he was a little reckless at times, but only slightly...and nowhere near as reckless as his warrior kin could be.

The dwarf looked at fin and ballast. "i'd prefer to identiftly th' properties of th' items before ye use them, but I'm not ye mother's so just watch yeself. ballast...when we get time i want to check th' pendant out....their magic can vary. the weapons tend to be mostly th' same."

"Unless there are words carved on it to speak, which I shall not, I will not go wishing upon it.  If it is passive protection, all well and good, if anything more lively...  I am a tough being.  Now, what about the magical wall?  Can we pass it, or do we go down?  I like the magical wall for protecting something they do not wish us to see, like things which make noise.  Or the noise-makers could go underground if they are simple cowards.  If we cannot pass the magical wall..." Ballast looks at the two ways Fenris found, and points to the right.  "Always go right first.  That way you remember which way to go."

Fin shrugs his shoulders.  "Being a crypt, it's likely that many of these passageways will connect or double back on each other," he said, "but Ballast is right:  the magical wall is probably hiding something someone doesn't want anyone to see."

The barbarian picks a area and heads down it, not arguing with the others. He opens the door into a small room, about 30' by 30'. In the center, much like the other area is a coffin that is open. Standing in front of it are two sahugains, with four bodies lying on the floor. All the ones on the floor look old and not alive. Their bodies are decomposed. THe two sahugains are chanting.

She'd followed Fenris to the doorway of the 30 x 30 room. As Ballast charged in she called out to the rest of the party. "Ballast is in need of help, he's going in against two more of the fish-prests and they are already casting some kind of spell!"

Standing aside long enough to let the others pass if they wish, Cumarinda stepped inside the room to the left side of the door and prepared to channel her god's power against evil. "By Pelor's beard I will see you and your evil destroyed you, foul creatures!" she shouted at the sahugain.

More fish people? Fin thought to himself as he watched the warforged charge in.  It must be these foul things making all the noise down here.  The rogue calmly drew an arrow from his quiver and nocked it.  Pulling back on the bowstring, he took careful aim at the sahuagin not engaged by Ballast and released.
