Re: (IC) Old Cannith Ruins

Brankx watched as both fenris and ballast coukd not open the gate and narrowed his eyes. He suspected the area magically warded, and if it was, then the mage was here.

"Hold fer a moment ye two...i want ter check something."

Brankx then mutters in his dwarven language in hopes that he can find something out.

<OOC: casts detect magic on the magical grate in hopes of learning something that can open it>

He looks at the valves. "I believe these valves may open th' door. should we try first?"

Ballast nodded.  "Go ahead.  We were going to try the path of least resistance first, but if we can get through elsewhere, that is fine too.  We are all equally uncertain what is in here."

Re: (IC) Old Cannith Ruins

Brankx looks at the gate, his brow furrowed as he walks up. Even though both ballast and fenris tried the gate, the dwarf walked up and shook the gate.

The dwarf stood there, staring at tbe valves with a glare, when a smile came to his face.

Placing his staff beside him against the wall, the dwarf clapped his hands and rubbed them. "Longbshot...but let's see if this works." he muttered.

Closing his eyes, he chanted some small phrase in dwarfish, a slight shimmering appearing on the other side of the gate.

"Damn me." he said as he went to work.

<OOC: casts mage hand on the other side of the gate and will manipulate the valves

Hope this works!>

Re: (IC) Old Cannith Ruins

The mage hand goes to move the lever but it cannot no matter how much the dwarf tries. Even with a different angle, it doesn't budge. He tries to move all of them one by one but gets the same thing.

The barbarian waits for a moment, watching the dwarf try with the magic. He glances at the cleric, eyes narrowing but then looks back at Brankx.

The dwarf cursed at the failure of his attempt. Picking up his staff gruffly, he waved the others on, following quietly, obviously a little grumpy it had no effect at all.

Re: (IC) Old Cannith Ruins

The sewer area stops some distance off. It leads to a underground river that ends in a small lake. It gets rather cold and some ice lies over parts of the lake.  The area above is about 30'. It looks cavernous. The gate the group came through slams down, blocking their way out and it looks like there's no other way to leave.

Cumarinda put her hands on her hips and looked around, with a slight look of annoyance."Well, that's interesting. I guess we'll have to find a way across or maybe around this lake. Any suggestions?" she asked brightly.

Brankx, one of the last through the entrance, jumps at tbe slamming of the gate. He looks at it with a glareful look. "Oh, you son of a....." he clenches his fists, as he looks atound the room, anger in his eyes.

He closes them for a moment, breathing deeply, then opened them, calmer. "I doubt goin' back will be an option. forward is th' way...we just gotta figure out how!"

Ballast stares at the water, the looks back at Brankx.  "Can you make a spell of light on a rock or my shield or some part of my body?  I can explore the bottom of the lake, but it would be difficult without light."

Re: (IC) Old Cannith Ruins

the dwarf looked at the exploding water and groaned. "First th' dirtpile outside, now this...make me think this fool doesn't want to see us."

Stepping forward, he reached into a pouch and began chanting. A small bead of red energy soared out towards the water beast, detonating just before it hit it. The dwarf clapped his hand as the fireball detonated. "Been wantin' ter try that fer a few days now." he said with a smile.

"Lets not make it easy for the water monster to drag us into its home. Keep defending yourselves but we should move as far from the water's edge as possible!" she quickly shouted to the others.

Cumarinda tried to remember if she'd come across a creature like this in her magic studies.

Re: (IC) Old Cannith Ruins

The fireball hits the water creature head on. It turns its attention on the dwarf and moves towards him, not caring about anyone else. It swings one of its fists down upon him, with its reach! It misses its mark.

The cleric ponders what the massive creature is, keeping her distance.

Fenris growls, gripping his weapons and going into a rage! He swings his sword twice at the elemental! His attack hits its mark but hard to tell if he even hurt it but the second misses its mark!

Ballast attacks and misses but he is flanking now.

Brankx grimaces as he bears the brunt of the water beast's scrutiny, but moves backwards so it is out of the water. As he moves he chants, making a sphere of blue arcane energy in his palm. as he concludes, the energy splits into three smaller arcane missiles that hit the beast.

While making certain to neither be fully between Brankx and his line of sight to the water being nor closer to the water's edge, Cumarinda concentrates on using all of her skill to defend herself against the creature.
In a hope filled voice she shouts "It's a water elemental for sure but it can be hurt my magic and enough blows against its! With Pelor's grace we can defeat him!"

The magic missiles hit their target. Gripping his weapon the warforged swings his sword, connecting. A growl comes from the berserker as he slams the sword into the elemental. He does it again as well but its hard to tell if it was even hurt. But then the water creature dissolves. All that remains is a small key and the gate slowly gets pulled back up.

The cleric of Pelor follows quickly behind Brankx and looks to make sure that both Ballast and Fenris are coming along as well. "Thanks to you all for making quick work out of that watery foe. The blades of our warriors and the spells of our mage are mighty!" she said with her heartwarming grin.

The gate is easily opened by the key. Inside there are three valves with three small areas in front. Some looked piped into eachother. It looks like some wierd type of puzzle of some sorts.

Re: (IC) Old Cannith Ruins

Cumarinda looked at the puzzle that lay before them and looked to all of the experience, training, and sheer reason that she could bring to bear on the situation.

After a few moments, she turned to the other and shrugged with a perplexed smile. "If there is some specific way to solve this it is beyond me. Maybe this is one of those times where luck is more useful than anything else. Try something and see what happens?"
