Pull up a chair and let the fire dry off the rain.

This thread is space for any out-of-character conversation. Anything goes. Anything whatsoever.

I've read the Lore thread - thank you by the way! And it seems that Lhazaar would be the perfect place for us to start. I doubt that someone like 'them' (is it possible that a changeling would have a preferred gender?) would want to be in Gray Tide as a starting point, as their actions in the war would make them feel like an outsider. They would probably be uncomfortable around other changelings who didn't take part and they would only go there if they truly needed to. They would probably be drawn to the Wind Whisperer principality because of the knowledge of airships and the possibility of making enough money to buy one, or even steal one.

Can I also say that - although we've not started the actual game yet - so far you've been an amazing GM and seem to have honed in perfectly on the setting and province that would suit my character. How long have you been running games?

Edit: Also, my Player's Handbook arrived today. I was expecting 5e but apparently what I've got is 4. Are there many differences between the two?

Haha. Thanks for the affirmation. I've been running rpgs for about 10-11 years. I started with 4e as my first ever rpg actually. I did a 4-year campaign in it, then did other games for a few years, and just last year finished another 4-year campaign in 5e.

Hmm. So, yeah, there are lots of difference between 4e and 5e. Did you order 5e and get 4e instead? I'm guessing if it was 4e it was on sale quite a bit. If you're wanting to join future games, 5e will suit you much better, since that's what's broadly thought of as D&D these days.

I could run 5e with my eyes closed. 4e will take some remembering for me, but I could do it still probably, especially in a solo game. In a full party game it relies more on grids/minis and tactical positioning than 5e. My biggest issue with 4e was options bloat, but that can be limited by just using fewer options.

Does your Player's Handbook have a lady mage and a dragonborn fighter guy on the cover? Or does it say Essentials anywhere?

Ah, I thought that might be a problem. It's the one with the mage and the dragonborn on the cover. The listing had it as 5th edition so I'll be sending it back in any case. It just means I can't jump into the game yet. Silly eBay.

I'll be ordering another one today in any case so hopefully it won't be too much of a holdup. Fingers crossed the next one gets it right.

I had no idea that campaigns could last that long. Do they necessarily have to end when characters die or people leave the group, or do you have a rough idea of how they're going to end when you start?
