OOC Chat - Game Setup
All right, guys! Welcome to the game.

A few topics to get us going:
  • Social Agreement (frequency, taking time off, game duration
  • Game thoughts
  • Character choices

Social Agreement
==================

Game limits
-------------------
I'm fine with an adult rated game (think rated-r, not rated X). If there are any topics that you'd like not to be included or that should happen 'behind the veil' (not focused on during game time) or that are sensitive for you, we need to know.

Also, let me know if we're getting into any territory like that so I can be sensitive to it.

Posting Frequency
------------------
Let's decide on how often we plan on posting. I think I can realistically update 2x/wk on average. Let's say Sunday and Wednesday. So you guys could check the feed for new material on Monday and Thursdays.

Does this work for you? Think about realistically what you'll be able to do after the excitement (although not enjoyment :) ) wears off, not idealistically.

When do we want to start the posting schedule? Next week, as we work through getting the game going or is later better? What about Thanksgiving?

The scenario I plan on running, 'V' is for 'Going' viral, I think would normally play out in one or two 4-hour sessions. Translating that into game speak, I think a generous estimate would be that we'd finish in about 1-2 months, but I'm really just estimating here. I can check my old game here and try to see some actuarial data.

My style
----------------------
I also want to share that game with you. A different system, but you can see my writing style and how I handled that game and make sure that it's okay with you.
link to another game
Let me know if you can't access it.

Your style
-----------------
I personally like some description rather than bare bones. You'll figure out how to describe how you bring in game tags to give your characters bonuses and such on actions as we go.

That said, I'd rather a post than no post.

We can also chat about how to keep things moving by adding anticipated rolls and such so there are fewer bottlenecks and less back and forth.

A note on language... let us know if we need to about how your English is. Everyone seems good, but we're happy to help if something's unclear.

Getting to know you
----------------------
Let's say a little about ourselves just so we know a little about each other. I'll do this below after the rest of this intro stuff.

Character choices
------------------
I believe there are six characters to choose from.
I have the PDFs here:
https://drive.google.com/drive...ccpleegS?usp=sharing
Pick your poison. Choose one. First come, first serve.

I have more info about the game, summaries of actions and things here:
https://drive.google.com/drive...VphFqP24?usp=sharing

Prior knowledge
------------------
You don't need any. All I need is for you to choose a character. You don't have to look at anything else. I can help out.

How to Play Play-by-Post game
-----------------------------------
Check out some of this info---it'll help the game run more smoothly
https://www.reddit.com/r/rpg/c..._you_run_playbypost/

FUN
---------------
I enjoy this. This system is cool. I've done Fate and some other Indie stuff. Really enjoy it. I'm really looking forward to this guys. I rarely get to play face-to-face because of work/family commitments, so this is what I do instead.

=======================

I've run out of time.

Pick your characters! :)

Talk soon...

I was checking the characters in the pdf, im interested in taking the salamander if no one else wants it, also, im good with those days, read over the other game you were in, i like your style. I think we'll have fun with this, haven't read anything about the campaign but i have gone over the city of mist manual, never been in a play-by-post game, so i hope i can do it right.

In reply to CrisFounder1 (msg # 7):

I'll take Flicker, if no one else is desperate to play her.

As far as content, I haven't had a chance to read through your other game, but I'm okay with a mature tone as long as we remain considerate of other people's race, gender, sexual orientation, etc.

I'm a stay-at-home dad, so my posting schedule will vary based on the needs of the day. Overall, twice a week should be very doable. I do have some family coming to visit over the next few weeks for Thanksgiving, but I don't think that would be a major problem for me.

I do have some experience with RPGs (including games based on FATE and Apocalypse World) and have had a few play-by-email campaigns both as a player and a GM.

I think that covers everything. Can't wait to get started!

Great, guys!

I want to give Noboriryuu until Tuesday to pick a character.

In the meantime, any questions?

BTW:
Name's Brian. I am a high school art teacher in Florida. I've got 2 young daughters (2 & 6).

Game-wise, I've played mostly Fate, but also some D&D (various editions). I've also played Fiasco and a number of other Indie games, but usually just one-shots. I've got no f2f group now but may develop one soon.

Nigel, what games did you play/run PbP? What was the experience like?

Cris, what's your background, gaming and otherwise? Also, don't worry _at all_ about 'doing it right'. If you have fun, you're doing it right. And we'll help you with any questions you have. Play-by-Post is a great, somewhat different, way to enjoy RPGs.

Again, I'm psyched to run another game.

I did have one question about Flicker: she has a Theme based around computer hacking. What kind of technology level are we looking at for this (if it even matters)?

As mentioned, I'm a stay-at-home dad to my 3-year-old daughter. I just moved to Tennessee a few months ago, and I've been struggling to find a local gaming group.

My experience with PbP has definitely been mixed. We had a long-running D&D 4E campaign which was predominantly online, with a face-to-face meeting every few months. It was great! Some of the best RP work our group has ever done. I also had a fun mini-campaign using the World Wide Wrestling system (based on Apocalypse World).

On the other hand, I've had some games that just fizzled out, including an attempt at Fiasco that burned out in the middle of the first scene. It seems like player enthusiasm makes a huge difference, so I'll do my best to keep mine high!

Hello! Sorry for the late post. Firstly, thanks so much for the invite to this game. I have been desperately wanting to play for a long time. I don't have much experience with rpgs. D&D 4e for a bit and pathfinder for an even shorter time. But I have always loved the concept of making a story together and imagining the scenes as they are being described.

My name is Andrew, but you can call me Drew. I teach English in Japan. So my posts may not be super quick, but I can definitely make one within 24 hours of the update. I'll just get a feel for the routines of posting times etc and adjust accordingly :)

 I saw in the above posts that salamander and flicker have been selected. I am interested in playing Declan Lestrange, but I am flexible if it is taken.

 I'm really looking forward to adventuring and crafting a story together.

Well, so a bit about myself, im in south america, so im just starting my summer vacation, that gives me a bunch of free time after this couple of weeks, and my gaming experience is mostly in-person stuff, i've been running a deadlands campaing for two years now, participated in some DnD and WoD stuff, and played a Mutants and Masterminds game over discord some time ago, but i haven't had the chance to play City of Mist yet. in regards to the tone of the game, im okay with most things if they are handled tastefully.
well, im really excited for this, so i'll do my best

INAUGURAL POST!
=================
I posted the first in-game post. Is it too soon? Is there more you feel we need to cover first?

POSTING SCHEDULE REVIEW
========================
We /could/ consider this the 'Sunday' post. Again, here's a view of the schedule:

I post Sunday. You post Mon/Tues. I post Wed. You post Thursday/Friday/Saturday. Let me know if that works. We could switch it by a day (I post Sunday/Thursday).

Sometimes I may post early on those days. You can reply anytime after. I won't take the whole day to edit and change.

MISSING POSTS
=================
When someone misses a post, do we:
  - move on with the character DM-PCd (I play them for that 'turn'),
  - make up some in-game reason for them to not be around
  - pretend they don't exist
  - have a back-up/another player post for them

What do you think?

RULES SUMMARIES
===============
Here's a link to the Starter Set of Rules. They cover most of it.
https://drive.google.com/file/...NK_/view?usp=sharing

I'll post this in the rules thread also. Knowing some of them, or at least being able to reference them will be helpful for moving the game along.

NEW RECRUITS
===============
We may have two more players joining us. We'll work them in whenever they arrive.

Really excited guys!

Re: OOC Chat - Game Setup
Howdy guys, so excited to be here! I'm Sophia and I've been wanting to play city of mist since I first came across the game. I tend to have chunks of free time throughout the day, so in theory I could post every day, but realistically, 3-4 times a week would be more likely. But that being said, 1-2 times a week won't kill me.

As for characters, I'd love to play Excalibur. I'll think of an actual name for her by the time I make my first post.

Also, I wanted to be clear about the level of...for lack of a better term, grit you have in mind for this series. Like, if this were a comic book, would it be closer to say, Batman Begins, or Batman: the animated series?

In reply to Lady Gray13 (msg # 16):

Good question. Personally, I like Batman Begins grit better---and I think that's what the game's designer had in mind (He cited Jessica Jones and Daredevil as influences).

But it's your game, guys. You tell me.

In reply to MC (msg # 17):

I rolled my dice and got a success (hooray!). As far as making things easy to parse, should we be using specific colors or anything for highlighting moves, tags, etc.? Should we add a follow-up post after rolling dice to show the results or just trust you to look in the die roller log? Just trying to think of ways to help things run smoothly.

made a bit of a mistake on my first roll (hope i don't start as i mean to go on) but please take in account the first one, also didn't add the pluses for it, i think those, in that case, should go in your discretion MC

Also, hello to everyone that just joined, nice to meet you all

In reply to MC (msg # 24):

I'm slowly cooking up a post. Before I finalize it, can you please clarify exactly what "power" means, in terms of how move results like Investigate get resolved? Does the number of Clues given equal the total number of just the power tags used, or is it the final modifier to the roll (including statuses and weaknesses)? I think I've done it two different ways and I want to make sure I get it right going forward. Thanks!

Re: OOC Chat - Game Setup
In reply to Flicker (msg # 25):

You get the number of clues equal just to the number of power tags used. So not necessarily the final modifier.

We don't include story tags or status tags (e.g., environment, like 'rainy', or modifiers for personal conditions, e.g. '2-hurt') to determine how many clues given, although they could affect the roll overall.

Hope that helps!

(Also, if you have the core rulebook pdf, I can give you the page numbers for reference.)

Hi all. Sorry so long.

I'm not sure I can continue as MC. Even with lots of 'time off' I haven't made it back to post.

I do hope you're all having a nice holiday.

I haven't decided for sure, but didn't want to leave you all hanging any longer.

Maybe I'm just having a bad few weeks.

Apologies. You've all been playing great!

Hey, its okay, we all have bad stretches of time, and if you want to, we can postpone the game until you feel okay about it, if you don't, that's cool too, but the best thing would be to take care of yourself as you see fit man, you've been great, and i hope you have a wonderful new year mate.

I canít really say much more than what already has been. Thank you for your efforts, it was very fun to play. If you feel like picking it back up or if you just need a sounding board, you can contact me on discord. I hope that you are well and that 2019 proves better. But remember in rough times, just put one foot in front of the other. You can make it through, just take your time doing so. The same hammer that shatters glass, also forges Damascus steel. Best wishes in the New Year!
