Sarlacc for thought

Captain Gregorious Fhrumpinhime was a decent captain all in all. Though he left most of the piloting to his flight officer Zenna, he was meticulous about keeping the ship repaired and in order for the next cargo run. He always had a safe deal on the run, and though these were not the most lucrative of deals, all the crew members on the Hard luck got paid. Which was the most important thing. There was even enough to keep a maintenance fund for both the ship and the droid and even add a few modifications all of which he did himself of course.

But for all his decent qualities Gregorious was a nervous and sometime cowardly man. It was with great trepidation that he had taken the "easy" cargo run to Tatooine from the rodian. It had disturbed him when the ewok cabin boy Jubjub, had "accidently" discovered that the containers on board were filled with spice, and it had shaken him to the core when upon investigating the now open crates Brannexx the ships weapons officer had found a personal holo message to the salacious crime lord Jabba the Hutt himself.

So when the Hardluck exited hyperspace in tatooine system, and X2 the astromech manning the sensors beeped that an imperial Super Star Destroyer was currently in orbit around Tatooine, poor old captain Gregorius lost it. He panicked slamming his fist down hard on the the cargo-bay door override button, venting the damned cargo and almost the Galley and logistics officer Jett, into the dark voids of space.

Gregorious's fears in the end, were unwarranted, for as luck would have it a YT1300 blasted past the SSD, and with a far more interesting quarry at hand the empire had little time to focus any attention upon your small freighter. But the damage had been done. The cargo was now lost to the voids of space, and without enough fuel to make it to another system there was no choice but to land on tatooine, where Jabba's cronies were sure to be waiting to collect his cargo.

Sure enough after touching down upon the planet Some gangsterous looking toughs arrived to collect the cargo and the discussion was a short one with Grigorious informing them of the lost cargo and that it couldn't be helped. The toughs left and Grigorious said to you all that you wouldn't be collecting a cargo here in fact you all would be leaving as soon as the ship was re fueled. This was not to be. Before the refueling was finished 3o gangsters turned up and in a most unceremonious manner hearded you all into the back of a hover truck at blaster point.

You were taken into the desert many miles from Mos Eisley, to Jabba's palace. Where you all became a guest of Jabba's dungeons which was a far cry south from any of the most derelict establishments any of you had stayed in. When finally you were all dragged before Jabba in his throne room, Captain Grigorious was a broken man. Though he pleaded forgiveness for dumping the cargo Jabba had little pity upon him. Pressing a button on his throne a trapdoor opened beneath your venerable captain dropping him to his doom for in the pit a Rancor awaited it's evening meal.

Your captain dead Jabba turned his attention to the crew, his intention to sell you all as slaves to recoup some of his massive losses from the cargo Captain Grigorious had dumped. If it hadn't been for Jetts quick wit you all would have been on the slave docks right now. Instead you now had to pay back the giant slug the 100000 credits that Jaba said he is owed for the cargo plus a Vig of 1% a month, or you would be fed to the sarlacc. Not the best deal, but you were all still free.

Jabba's men returned you to town where you found amongst the captains things a few credits each, enough to pay for the fuel and maintenance on the ship + docking fees. In a somber mood you all (accept the droid) find your selves at the cantina toasting your previous captain and reminiscing how each of you had come to work on the ship. The captain had done each of you a favour, a solid, a good turn, and now none of you could repay that dept.

Zenna; Grigorious had taken you in as a teenager, a street rat with big dreams of the stars. You soon became a better pilot than Grigorious. He would often sit in the co-pilot's chair telling you all he knew of space as you flew.

Brannexx; On the run and with options rapidly running out, it was Grigorious that got you off Corellia before you could be caught and sentenced to death. After that he gave you steady work though he didn't have to.

Jett; On the run from the imperials blaster lost by the wayside. It had been Captain Grigorious who had taken you in and like brannexx got you off world, he even offered you a way to continue earning an income Bar to Bar, Cantina to spaceport all across the galaxy. You suspected he had a thing for you but if he did he never pushed the point he paid you well for your honest work on the ship and provided a quick exit when needed.

Jubjub; You would be Dancata Fodda now if it wasn't for a chance encounter with Captain Grigorious upon your home moon of Endor. Having landed to do some minor repairs upon the moon, it was pure chance that he came across you trapped by the beast about to become lunch. He had scared off the creacher with blaster fire placing you in a life debt to him for saving your life. He took you with him to the stars where you have seen wonders you never thought possible.

X2; The Captain found you floating in space, he cleaned you up, and since then you have been an integral part of the ship. He worked you hard but treated you well it could have been much worse for a droid. you could still be floating in space not receiving monthly oil baths.

As you all down yet another drink a Devaronian approaches your table. He doesn't introduce himself instead inviting himself to sit down, saying,

"I have a delivery request from your debtor. You are to transport 1 tonne of cargo to corellia collect payment and return here. For this you will be paid 8000 credits. You are expected to be back within a 4 weeks the details of the delivery drop point are on this data stick. I wish you luck and I wouldn't be venting this into space unless you want every bounty hunter in the outer rims looking for you."

He nods drops a data stick on the table, gets up and leaves.

Meanwhile back at good old docking bay 86. X2 you are polishing your grav sled when a weedy human and 2 gramorians show up with a flatbed trailer upon which is a sealed cargo container. The man gets out of the cab and shouts at you.

"Oi Droid here is the cargo where do you want it?"

Not wanting them in the ship you indicate on the grav sled (at least then you can get rid of it if needs be). The gremorians move it to your sled and they all leave. Leaving you with a cargo crate and your crew all "drinking" at the cantina.

Brannexx sat with the others, drinking. His liquid poison was something called a "Hutt Brewsky". The bottle's label showed a picture of Jabba the Hutt waving. Leave it to Jabba, to find another way to make a profit. Muscle in on a local brewery, and slap a  new label on the bottles, and everything was clear profit.

After he took a long pull from the bottle, he regarded his companions."Well, it could always be worse, shipmates. We could of ended up in the pit with the late lamented Captain Fhrumpinhime." But even as he said those words, he felt the loss, for the Captain had been good to him.

Zenna leaned forward as the Devaronian spoke. She tried to put a name to the alien. She didn't pick up the data stick until after the Devaronian left. "You're right there, Brannexx. We could be worse off. But I never would have thought that we'd fall so far... so fast." She picked up her drink, a Yelsain Ale. "Let's have a drink to our Captain Fhrumpinhime. We should go back to the ship and see what's on this data stick."

"I have a bad feeling about this," Jett said, as the data-stick slid across the table. With her hallikset in hand, she played an ominous-sounding riff to underscore the moment with music, before breaking into a bittersweet and crooked smile. "But when have I ever let that stop me."

Then, she raised her third shot-glass of the night, "To the Captain." Prior to joining this motley crew, her own escapes, from Imperial entanglements and otherwise, had always been close calls. But not since she first boarded the Hard Luck had they cut it so close, however. And without a proper sidearm, she'd had to talk their way out of it, rather than shoot her way out. Unfortunately, the Captain's luck had finally run out. Jett was glad hers hadn't... yet.

Sure, she had felt Gregorius' eyes on her, several times, but he'd been a gentleman about it. Or at least fearful. Lucky for him too. If he had tried anything, all he'd have to show for it would be a black-eye and broken ribs. Gregorious was not without his faults, but she could tell he was trying. This time discretion had proven to be the worse part of valor.

Another life lost. One hundred large owed. Yikes. Still, they'd lived to fight another day.

"Better the devil you know,"
she says in toast, loudly enough to make sure the Devaronian hears it. "Than the devil you don't," she finishes with a flourish, before downing the shot.

May his spirit rise. TO Grigorious!

Shouts the Ewok half pissed on some purple beverage that he thought was berry juice. his hand snakes out to grab the data stick just a little slow due to the drink. Zenna picks it up, leaving Jubjub smiling cheekily at Zenna, turning on that Ewok charm.
Jubjub says,

"Digo nug gohung Te Zenna. Chocho UgDrag bo hig nan."
You are right Miss Zenna, Back to the skydragon.

Jubjub looks around as they leave the cantina his eyes peeled as always for shiny things of interest carried by others that he could acquire if they are not perceptive enough. Seeing nothing of note he returns to the docking bay with the others.

You all return to Ol’ 86 to find X2 inspecting a large crate 3m x 1.5m x 1m weighing 1 tonne that has been dropped off by some goons. The crate is made of a shiny dark grey plasteel with rounded corners and metal clasps at the front. Some glossy black paint has been used to cover what may have been identifiable marks on the crate. The crate has a simple electronic locking mechanism that requires a 4 didgit code to open.

As they left the bar, Jett cast an eye around the cantina, particularly toward sussing out the proprietor. With this place in particular boasting the rare, (relatively) honest reputation in what was otherwise a Huttese den-of-sin planet, she looked for the being who might be the owner — or at least someone who could say yes.

Everybody on this rock must be tired of the Modal Nodes by now, no? Should they return here sooner rather than later, picking up a gig might help — at least, to ease her mind, if not put a few more credits into her pocket. Especially with most of their incoming earnings soon to be jettisoned out the airlock of debt, on the regular.

15:15, Today: Jett rolled 11 using 4 dice with the WEG Classic system with rolls of 1,5,{Wild}2,3.  PERCEPTION check: see who seems to be in charge of cantina.

***

Once they make their way back to Docking Bay 86 and laid eyes on the new delivery, Jett walked over to X2 as the astromech inspected the crate.

Seeing the lock, Jet gave the crate a light tap with her knuckles. "That's it, huh? Well, now I'm curious. I mean, we have to confirm the condition of incoming cargo and all that, right? Make sure nothing happened in transit that they can pin on us?" She crouched down next to X2, nods toward the lock and whispered, while spinning her finger, "Work your magic, X-2."

But Brannexx had just made a good point, "Definitely switch it up. I mean, Z's the de-facto Captain now, right?" she asked. "So... is running with the theme too obvious? From Hard Luck to... Miss Fortune, maybe?" Jett joked.

Then Jett looked up at the YT-2400, a share of which was now hers. It was a hot-rod compared to the bulky Aurore-class freighter she'd grown up on, though for Preigo's Traveling World of Wonder shows, the Dug ringmaster always dolled the ship up with bunting and lights so that it served as a serviceable circus stage.

Jett never thought she'd even be with this "new" crew long enough to begin thinking of calling the ship home, but now here she was...

Brannexx had no real experience in how to run a merchant ship, but he had seen the late Captain in action, so he had a rough idea. "One of us can check the star port computer here and see if anyone needs a ship to take a cargo and the same for a couple of passengers to our destination. Now lets get this crate into the cargo bay,and lock it down."

As the crate is dropped off, X2 chirps off a message over the comlink to the others, letting them know someone dropped off cargo, then left without telling him much of anything.
As the others arrive, he indicates the cargo on the grav sled, His series chirps and warbles seems to indicate a distaste for the potential of the cargo, and of the one he knows is probably their employer.  A small crane lifts the droid up into the driver's slot, the Captain having had the grav sled modified so that only an astromech could pilot it.  He drives it up into the cargo hold.

"Am I the only one interested in secrets and lies?" Jett sighed aloud, while privately resolving to see if she *could* see. See in. See if X-2 would be willing to somehow... X-ray that mystery crate. But that could wait.

"Hey Z," she said, calling after Zenna. "Oh wait, I meant, Captain Kern, sir. M'am, I mean," Jett said, tongue-in-cheek. "I can canvas the cantinas, after seeing if the local HoloNet feeds have any leads on desperate, but deep-pocketed souls who may be in need of safe passage." Then Jett half-smiled, "But don't worry, I won't tell them we can't provide the 'safe' part."

And at least the second mystery would be easier to solve. Having caught up to Zenna — and once she'd gotten the latter's full attention, Jett made an elaborate show of raising two fingers. Then she pointed at her own two eyes, before swiveling those fingers around to point at the data-stick. "Mind if I join you first?"

X2 lets loose with a series of beeps, chirps, warbles, and whistles that go by quickly.  It seems to have something to with paint, welding, and the coolant tubes running along the celing of the cargo bay.
The commlink translation, however catches it all.
We need to paint it to match the interior, with lettering naming what we want them to think it is.  We can weld it up by the coolant pipes to make it look like they go inside.  We say there was a problem with overheating and we had to provide additional coolant to the engines.
X2 can use the grav sled to hold it up there for welding once it gets repainted.

A part of the ceiling looks a bit lower, what appears to be a freshly painted coolant tank, with pressure gauge next to the appropriate blinking lights on a control panel.  They way the trio placed it, the pipes seem to be connected to it, but it can be easily removed from the metal brackets holding it in place.
The astromech gives a long, low whistle of appreciation at their handiwork.  One of his manipulator appendages comes out in off of a "High Five".

Jett gave X2 the side-eye for a moment, as she shook her head. Then she glanced and gazed about the cargo hold, trying to spy the now-concealed cargo container... to no (apparent) avail. Starships had never been her thing, and so she found she'd not fared too well in this hunt.

As Jubjub chirped something at her, Jett smiled and sighed. She'd been able to suss out the gist of his words most of the time — the Ewok's use of Stardragon for starship, for example, was particularly endearing. Jett often had to resist the urge to squeeze the little murder-bear whenever it spoke.

"It's true, ye olde industrialized, shipbuilding hub — lousy with spacers claiming they're the next Han Solo. And even though somedroid, who shall remain nameless, refused to run a scan just in case the contents didn't match the manifest, the official index we saw isn't anything shocking — if it's true that is, which is all I wanted to know — for our sakes and our own good!" Jett said, before sticking her tongue out at X2.

"Contact's name is Nilo De-Sub," Jett watched the eyes of her comrades as she said the name, just in case a flash of recognition rose to the fore. Toward that end, she thought on her own past travels, both with Preigo's Traveling World of Wonder, and by her lonesome. Did the name set off any alarum bells, either by itself or by association?

While you are all looking at the screen there is a chime of incoming mail. You’re tender for transport of 500 barrels of Dilarium oil has been accepted. This will take up 125metric tonnes of cargo space filling the ship to almost capacity. It will net you 2000 credits after refueling costs or 1500 credits if you take up piracy insurance on the cargo. The supplier can have the barrels to your docking bay by the morning tomorrow.

Looking over after hearing the notification of an incoming transmission, Jett tapped her chin as she read. They'd be nearly at capacity already, but...

"Hey, we might be too full a boat already, but... a few extra credits never hurt anyone and I bet a few folks lying low at the cantina might be interested in getting to Corellia, on the sly and in a hurry, or at least somewhere along the Corellian Trade Spine that wouldn't be out of our way."

Her hand fell to her now-empty holster, and she swore under her breath. That was a problem that needed solving too. "So... anyone want to come with?"

Once Jett sees Jubjub volunteer so quickly, it makes her want to squeeze him all the more. And the fresh doubt in her mind re: their contact's inexperience is assuaged... for now.

Jett faux-formally salutes the bartender, before stopping at an edge of the bar where she can at least see trouble coming, whether it's only annoyingly-amorous or actually dangerous, sober, inebriated or somewhere in-between. "Shot of Corellian whiskey, if you please."

Before she downs the drink, Jett says loudly enough so that it's audible to those that might want to make the jump to lightspeed, "Can't wait to get a bottle of the good stuff on Corellia proper." Then she winked at the bartender, "No offense."

Then she lifts the shot-glass to Jubjub, then does a quick sweep of the room, toast raised, "Won't be long now anyway."

Jett wasn't used to coming up empty, but she *was* pleased to return the Ewok's thumbs up when the little guy returned with good news. She was glad to see Jubjub come through, when at first it seemed like the Ewok was just wandering off to snatch up shiny objects. Glad, that is, until she parsed the Ewokese enough to realize it would be a Bothan passenger joining them.

While Jett didn't have any first hand experience dealing with the Bothan Spynet (that she knew of), the fact that their reputation preceded them sort of suggested they weren't great spies, paradoxically enough. Hiding in plain sight was one thing, but this might be another. And that other thing was that she'd specifically heard rumblings of the Bothans' willingness to aid the Rebellion. And suddenly, that convinced Jett to keep her doubts to herself -- for now.

"Nice," she said evenly to Jubjub, scruffing his fur. And with luck, it might still turn out that way.

The ship is half loaded when the Bothan arrives sporting a blaster on one hip and carrying a duffel bag. He greets you all with a very posh English accent,

“Greetings I am Gruf Bergin I booked travel with the little furry fellow. As agreed here is 250credit as half payment for my journey. Where can I stow my things?”

Until then, Jett would head to her quarters to compose a few new verses on the hallikset — and to see about replacing her lost blaster. With this crew, she was sure they'd need some sharpshooting sooner rather than later....

You lift off from Tatooine. An hour into the cold voids of space the way is clear for you to plot your hyper course and get underway. Zenna is at the helm plotting her jump course, and due to a lack of suitable personnel Jubjub is in the copilot seat pressing what he is told to press. X2 is at the sensors and Brannexx is just doing the last checks on the laser cannon, all coming up green of course.

Jett exists her cabin intent on talking to Zenna about the passenger you’ve acquired. She bumps into the Bothan exiting the engine room he looks at her sheepishly saying,

With Jett and Gruf sharing opposite sides of a wall, she wanted to be sure her new neighbor — however temporary — wasn't up to no good. And make sure he wouldn't get them into trouble. The crew was already plenty good at that already. Case in point: Jubjub serving as "co-pilot". Still, they hadn't bounced too close to a supernova, nor been sucked into a gravity well... yet. So, so far so good. And the Ewok seemed fast on the uptake in terms of tech. Zenna knew what she was doing.

Before Jett was able to talk to Zenna about their new passenger, however, she stumbled upon the Bothan doing *very* suspicious things. Hmmm.

"Galley's not in there, I can tell you that much," she said, before extending her hand, "I'm Jett. I know I didn't formally introduce myself earlier." She also offers a florid, overly dramatic bow and wave of the hand. "But you know what? I could go for a bite too. In fact, I'm kind of *always* hungry. Here, let me show you the way."

Jett uses the gesture to (hopefully) switch on her comlink without the Bothan noticing, while allowing Zenna and the others to hear the following exchange. "And I'm not a flyer myself, so I can see how the engine room might look like the galley. How'd the engines look by the way? They up to spec? You an engineer or something? Pilot maybe? I mean, I'd be curious too, I guess."

16:39, Today: Jett rolled 11 using 4 dice with the WEG Classic system with rolls of 5,{Wild}2,1,3.  Sneak.

22:47, Yesterday: Jett rolled 12 using 4 dice with the WEG Classic system with rolls of 1,5,1,{Wild}5.  PERCEPTION: Further investigation!

Jett cracked a smile, a little incredulous at the Bothan's lucky parry. "And here I was, going easy on you."

When Graf tries to take his shot, Jett moves to grab his gun-hand and twist —

— angling the business end of the blaster so that the Bothan points at himself when he fires. "Deflect this."

Twist it so that Bothan shoots himself when he fires, Brawling -1D multi-action.

"I'm going to put some distance between us." Zenna said as she turned the Hard Luck into a vector away from the approaching starships. She turned on the communication array to speak with the other pilot, Comander ThakU Marr of the Rebellion. "Commander Marr. I don't know much about your rebellion, but you're acting like a bunch of pirates. I don't see a difference when you're trying to hijack our cargo. We're just trying to make an honest living."

The string of words scrolling on Zenna's display as X2 lays out a torential downpour of electronic sounds would absolutely shock the pilot with their vitriol, obscenity, and blasphemy.  If she had time to actually read them.  A mixed up tirade of swearing from languages she would not even expect the little droid knew, it finally ended with the words:  I will try to fix the hyperdrive.
He tries to access memories or programming he has had no call to use for decades.  And fails.  Miserably.  It seems they were completely wiped from his memory a long time ago, when he was reprogrammed.

Another long string of curse words scrolls across Zenna's screen, accompanying the long string of vehement sounding noises coming from X2.  In fact, those words can actually be heard through the translation of the coms in a flat electronic voice that somehow seems to convey the violence behind them.  And it seems likely there are some words in a language none aboard have ever heard.
With the fighter right on their tail, and Zenna juking and jinking wildly to avoid being hit, X2 decides it might be best if he stay right where he is for the moment and attempt to get the shields up.  Frankly, right about now, he feels he would be more useful in the turret.

ThakU who had just been flying straight at the Hardluck and firing his lasers suddenly finds himself under fire he pulls hard left trying to evade the onslaught, straight into Brannexx's field of fire. His Q-8 star fighter takes a direct hit from the laser cannons manned by Brannexx.

ooc a break down as a refresher for you all:
Brannexx fires using all his dice (one of the advantages of having a gunner). ThakU as a reaction takes an evasive maneuver as he is still taking his action he loses one dice from his firing lasers action and one dice from the pool of die for his evasive maneuver.

As he hasn't taken a FULL reaction evasion, which would of required him to  drop his action to shoot. The result of his reaction roll therefore replaces the difficulty rather than adding to it. In this case he flew straight into the line of fire, and brannexx hits him. Please note this because his Diff to be hit was 14 he took a risk and it reduced to 8.

now he rolls his hull:

07:40, Today: EP01, for the NPC ThakU, rolled 10 using 2 dice with the WEG Classic system with rolls of {Wild}5,5.  Hull.

When Brannexx rolls his 4 dice damage we will see how he fairs...

EP01:
Searching the Bothans bag you find a tracer device which has been activated and a cred stick with 300 credits on it and clothes.

"Kowakian-monkey-lizard-kriffing son of a —" Jett cut loose a string of creative expletives, upon finding the tracking device.

Of course, the Bothan having such a device on him made sense in hindsight, especially with how the Hard Luck got hit at *just* the right time. Far enough away from Tatooine to set the stage for an ambush, while also close enough for the pirates to pull off a hit-and-run without getting stranded in deep space.

If she can (and if it didn't require any specific codes or passwords), Jett turns the tracer off — knowing it might come in handy later on. She pockets the credits too — to split with the rest of the crew, of course. With those items in hand, she heads to the cockpit.

"He had a tracking device on him too — which figures, since whoever those guys were, they were on us pretty fast."
Then she pulled out the Bothan's remaining 300 credits. "And I figure he owes us at least this much too, maybe it can go toward getting a Tech to patch up this bird."

"I'd rather not backtrack too much, so if either Zee or X2 can 'fix' it for now, great" she says.

"But if the hyperdrive’s too far gone, I'd rather we get a move on tracking down a Tech."

Neither of you would know which wire goes where to fix this, but you both located the problem.

And yes. Jett you have heard of spaceport speeders they do repairs. Or you could try and have a jawa come do the work you will need to guard him or there won't be an engine left and watch out he doesn't take X2. Other than that there is sure to be someone on tatooine.

"Though speaking of whom," Jett said softly to herself. No disrespect to the dead intended of course, but there might be something in the Captain's quarters that might be able to bail them out of a jam. If not their current one, then maybe something that might be of use in the future.

I will have a look at the hyperdrive.  I have the schematics, I might be able to do something to repair it, scrolls across the screen, then X2 disengages from the droid slot and heads back.
Rolling intonthe engine room, the astromech gives a long, tapering whistle at the sight of the torn out wiring.  He gives a series of sounds that seems suspiciously similar to the expletives translated from his speech earlier.
He rolls up closer to the damage, his tool-laden manipulator arms extending from his chassis.  Luckily, the electronic tool needs for most vehicles are pretty much the same.  He moves in, schematics in the forefront of his processor as he slowly and carefully sets to work.
He is going to make an extended attempt at the repair, adding rolls as they head back to the planet.

Some dirty clothes, 1 pressed flight uniform. There is a photo of Grigorious and some others you don't know, looking closely one even carries a lightsaber it must have been before your time. Quietly moved by the romantic (as well as seemingly ominous) sentiment of the note, Jett inspects the telescope more closely as well. Though because of its sentimental value to their late captain, she leaves it in the room. She gathers that the medals are... Clone War medals? Before her time, but given the context of Gregorious' other belongings, it seemed to make the most sense.

She leaves, still carrying the orb as well as the harmonica and arrives in the common room to see Brannexx taking a swig of beer.

"You know, kind of a shame Gregor didn't share some of the old war stories with us. I mean, we knew he was kind of an old softee already, but a bit of hopeless romantic too, huh? And hey, thanks for the keeping the Bothan's friends off our tail. What do you think we should do with him, once we get back to Tatooine? Obviously, we're not too keen on tangling with law enforcement or bucketheads. So... do we just drop him off at the cantina all trussed up still, and be all, 'next time, it'll be a one way ticket, pal!'"

“Command, this is patrol 34 we have come under heavy fire in the old wreck square and need backup NOW!!”

You can’t hear the radio response but you can only assume backup is coming.

Now he changed his tone of voice to a casual tone, this was an interrogation tactic to lessen the tension of the subject. “It matters not to me if you are Rebels or just pirates. Far be it from me to care how someone earns their credits. I only care when they try and make them at my expense. So, are you of the rebel alliance, or just a pirate? Where did you come from, and how is it you picked on the Hard Luck?"

"I do work for the rebels alliance and my job was to get passage on ships holding needed cargo then disable them so the cargo could be retrieved. That was it.

The alliance places  a number of agents at different outer rim worlds like tatooine. Worlds where needed supplies are exported, here it's important oils processed and used in starships. When I find a ship with a cargo of oils I contact the alliance and they send a fighter and a Tug. We take the sip with the cargo and tow it to where the needed cargo can be offloaded.

Then usually if the ship occupants cause no hassle, they are given their ship back and sent on there way. Usually no-one gets hurt and these big export companies always insure their loads so no-one loses out the alliance gets what they need the companies still get paid and the crew transporting their goods keeps their ship they can just get another load and move on.

When that little fury shipmate of yours came into the bar looking for a passenger on your ship carrying exactly what we are after, it was just business as usual to try to get passage onboard. He was so eager to give me passage I didn't even have to bargain he took what I offered straight away. Ya see it was just business as usual ol' chap."

Dragenn listened to the Bothan tell his tell. As far as he could tell, it had the sound of truth to it.” You know, I heard your rebel alliance is attempting to restore the old Republic, throw off the tyranny of the empire, etc, etc, and so forth. I submit, to you, committing acts of piracy on those you claim to be fighting for, leaves a rather negative impression."

Brannexx then produced a pocket knife from a pocket and snapped it open to expose a small but very sharp blade. “I further submit, by your alliance doing what you attempted on us, you prove what the Empire’s propaganda spews forth with. Your alliance are criminals, outlaws, creating chaos where the empire provides safety and security. Your piracy proves their point, and drives those like us into the imperial embrace.”

He went to cut the bonds but then hesitated.” You are as you claim, or just using the Rebel alliance as a cover for your piracy. Either way, think twice before you and your friends come at the Hard Luck again. We have a couple of surprises we did not even get a chance to use, as it was over to fast… Perhaps next time, if there is a next time.”  He smiled then, in a not so friendly manner.

Brannexx stood to his feet, turned the heavy blaster onto the kill setting, and let the Bothan see him do it. “I am going to now cut your bonds; you will stand and walk several paces in front of me toward the airlock. We are dirt side, thanks to your stunt. Cause me no grief on our way to the lock, and you are free. Attempt anything and I will burn you down.”… He sliced the ropes then backed up towards the door, blaster pointed at the Bothan.

As he joins the others, his optics focus upon the newcomer.  A Jawa?  There is a series of beeps, chirps, warbles and whistles emitted by him that could be easily mistaken for his earlier rapid-fire use of expletives.

X2 reaches out with his manipulator arms to take the belt.  With a couple of deft movements and precise "eyeball" measurements, he soon has the belt adjusted to fit the fuzzy organic's waist as closely as possible, for a belt meant for a human or similar-sized humanoid.  As for the vibroblade, there is nothing he can do.  The hilt is made to fit the energy cell it takes, and the energy generator it powers, to a precise size.
He gives an apologetic warble as he hands the weapon back over.

"Hey, short-stuff," Jett said, giving a thumbs up to the Jawa. "Glad you and my friend Jubjub managed to make your way back here. So! Uh, life debt and all that, right? We helped you out of a jam and now you helped us out? Because... well, let's just say, we're waiting to cash in on a big job and credits are a little tight right now — but I have good news. Great news even."

She pointed vaguely to where the captain's cabin was. "We are a man short — and you, sir, seem like the short-man for the job! Whatta you say, I mean, I'm sure big Z will sign off on it, but how do you feel about a stake in this beautiful hunk of junk? See the stars. Get off that dustball."

Then Jett drew her blaster, spun it a few times with trick grips before re-holstering, "And you know, you won't have to worry about bucketheads giving you a hard time with us around. Plus that little astromech, X2? He loves company. Loves it. You guys will be best pals. Trust me."

The agreement is made and Hex gets to work fixing the hyperdrive within an hour it is fixed and checks are showing green. You blast off from tatooine, as storm troopers enter the docking bay. Soon you are at a safe distance and once again setting in a hyperdrive course you jump without issue into hyperspace.

For 10 days you travel uninterrupted along the plotted hyperspace root. and soon the warning light comes up letting you know that within the next few hours you will be arriving at your destination. The journey has given you all time to practice new skills, read pop up kids books or drink beer whatever takes your fancy.

Exiting hyperspace you all are astounded at what is before you a massive space station around which orbits a number of planets. Ships of all shapes and sizes are docking or leaving.

Across your radio comes a squeltch followed by a female voice.

*Sqeeltch.. "Copy the Hardluck we have you entering Star-port space, prepare to be scanned. State your business and docking requirements."*

OOC-11:02, Today: EP01, for the NPC Spaceport, rolled 29 using 7 dice with the WEG Classic system with rolls of 3,6,6,5,5,{Wild}3,1.  focused scan.

During the hyper travel the ewok will read his pop up book again and again, he will have Jett, Zenna, Brannexx, and even X2 read his favourite stories to him until they are jedi’ed out. He will cut a broom in 2 using the handle as a light sabre and run round the ship pretending to be a Jedi warrior. Besides all these antics he will pester Hex about the utility belt he needs it a different colour as he doesn’t want imps stopping him as he has one of their belts and also can he attach the sheath for the vibroblade which is like a sword for the little guy. Re: Sarlacc for thought

After the ship jumped safely into hyperspace, Jett felt more confident, not only in their latest cargo run (finally) going smoothly, but also in the mutually-beneficial deal they'd brokered with the Jawa.

That the "fine print" of a stake in a ship included certain debts might not have been the fullest disclosure, and X2 might not have liked being dangled as bait, but if they hadn't gotten a move on fast, things probably would've gotten a lot worse faster.

Jett spends some time over the 10 days working on her music, with her singing and hallikset probably audible through the corridors. If she winds up with a song she likes, she'll test it out at the next cantina gig she comes across:

17:09, Today: Jett rolled 23 using 5 dice with the WEG Classic system with rolls of 4,6,2,3,{Wild}6(+2).
Artist: Singer/Songwriter 4D + either preparation bonus or double-time bonus of +1D.

Jett also reads Jubjub a few stories from his Jedi book, though she quickly grows tired of the same tall tales, spun various ways. Only so much good a lazer sword could do.

She approaches the Jawa about perhaps upping the power output of the DL-18 as well. With the blaster's rep for easy modification, she hoped that Hex could get it so that the DL-18's bolts could punch through stormtrooper armor without issue.

"Hey, thanks for patching up our hyperdrive," she said to Hex, sincerely, before holding out her blaster. "You think you can crank this up to 11 without it blowing up when I pull the trigger?"

Once the ship lurched back into realspace and she heard the hail, Jett jumped on the comm, hopefully not to Zenna's chargin.

* "Acknowledged, Spaceport control. Ready when you are. Just a supply drop, but I'm hoping we can get a little R&R in after. We probably can't stay too long and we're on a pretty-tight budget, but... anything good you can recommend?" *

OOC: if roll is needed, see below:

17:31, Today: Jett rolled 16 using 5 dice with the WEG Classic system with rolls of 2,4,6,1,{Wild}3.
Con attempt: Nothing to see here, just us smugglers.

Once the crew other than X2 (because who cares about a droid) leaves the ship 4 of the officers weapons trained upon you hold you to one side while a special agent and the rest of the security officers proceed to turn your ship upside down and inside out looking for something. They scan it thrice and search every barrel of oil, but still they come up with nothing. As the hours pass the special agent gets more and more frustrated. Finally after 4 hours and searching the ship and cargo back to front as well with prompting from the scanner crew chief, the special agent finally throws in the towel. Those of you listening carefully manage to catch a snippet of the conversation between the scan crew chief and the special agent before they let you all go.

“There isn’t anything on that ship...... the only guns ...........are personal sidearm’s .........isn’t registered . ........  arsenal ......... talking about...... your information..... shit .......... Agent Deluc........ trouble ...... minor infraction..... to stick...... nothing here.”

Says the scan crew chief. The Special agent growls loudly, anger clear in his face,

“These guys are dirty I can smell it! Cut em loose but..... man on watch. I .....,find a rat....”

He storms from the bay, and the scan crew chief comes over and says,

“Get that DL11 registration up to date, other than that nothing was found in this random cargo check. You’re free to conduct your business here. Have a good day .”

Hey turns waving his crew out of the bay. All you can think is that was anything but random.

Re: Sarlacc for thought

Having (begrudingly) seen the wisdom in not trying to conceal a weapon and in flying casual – this time anyway, Jett sauntered out of the ship to greet the scanning crew and security agents, though they seemed particularly focused on the task at hand to care. She gave a florid faux-friendly "welcome" nonetheless — an overly dramatic bow and gesture of open palms toward the ship as they board.

While the stern Special Agent — Deluc? — conducted his business in gruff fashion but ultimately came away with nothing, Jett furrowed her brow at him, with mock concern and pursed lips, ironically nodding along with his frustrated assessment.

When the crew chief finally clears them, Jett gives a click with her mouth and a finger-fun gesture, "Aye, chief. Gonna get on that registration ASAP. Give my regards to all the other randos who get their cargo checked today."

As the group departed, Jett turned to Zenna and Brannexx, "Random, riiight."

Then she walked back into the YT-2400, to retrieve her sidearm. "Flying colors, X2! That cargo's own mother wouldn't have been able to recognize it!" she shouts at the droid, "You see anything suspect while they were tooling around in here?"

Terrified the man says,

“I swear the info was good I arranged the deal myself. They have it you just didn’t find it go look again. “

The agent thinks a moment before saying,

“No. This is what’s going to happen. We’re going to wire you up and you’re going to arrange delivery of the weapons and when the exchange takes place we’ll be there to take these guys down. “

What?! But I don’t have the 88000 credits to pay these guys and after you screwed the search they aren’t going to produce the weapons without seeing the money...

We are going to need more weapons.  Correct?  I can use my sensors to better pinpoint where those waiting in ambush are located.  Thereby by taking away more of their element of surprise.  I can also monitor or jam their communications.  There is also the possibility that we can just leave, return to Jabba to let him know there was a planned ambush to just steal the cargo.  Or, we could even send him an encrypted message.

Corellia has given rise to a people famous for their sentimentality and notorious for their recklessness. "Corellia for Corellians" is their philosophy, and the system has a history of attempted secession.

The enigmatic Celestials are believed to have assembled the Corellian system from preexisting planets, using a combination of buried repulsors and the hyperspace engine, Centerpoint Station. Around the star Corell, their arrangement took shape first Corellia, then Drall, then the double worlds of Talus and Tralus (orbiting each other with Centerpoint Station suspended between them, and finally Selonia.

Drall and Selonia appear to have had native species of their own, while Corellia's Humans may have been transplanted there by the Celestials. By 30,000 BBY, the Corellian system had become part of the Rakatan Infinite Empire. The Corellians later built hyperspace cannons to link their system to Coruscant and Duro, and by 25,000 BBY they had perfected the modern hyperdrive.

Corellia kept its surface largely rural by moving starship construction facilities into space. The capital city of Coronet became an eclectic bazaar for off-duty spacers and bargain hunters, while other cities traded on the natural beauty of Corellia's beaches, mountain peaks, and crystal swamps.

In 312 BBY, King Berethron e Solo abolished Corellia's monarchy. In time, control of Corellia fell to a Diktat, whose duties included maximizing Corellia's footprint in shipbuilding and interstellar trade. Currently during our glorious Emperor's reign, Corellia answers to the auspicious Imperial Moff Bandersnatch.

You are currently on centerpoint station orbited by Talus and Tralus. Both planets would be heavily industrialised but of course there are areas that are abandoned on both planets for various reasons. As said Correllia has been kept mostly rural and more of a recreational planet/bazar for spacers, again you would be able to find recluse areas to conduct business forested if thats what you want. Drall and Selonia both are currently more like prison planets for the native inhabitants. With the Mof Bandersnatch using his fleet resources limiting who comes and goes to these planets. All inline with the empires regulations on other races of course. The mof has chosen containment rather than outright invasion and continued subjugation of these planets.

"Oh snap!" Jett said, laying eyes upon the crate contents, "Nice. I suspected as much — but I didn't suspect it's be so slick a set."

She reaches for one of the 22T4s... and the look on her face says she really wants to keep it.
"This is an ISB special. Man, no wonder that Agent was creeping around with local law goons."

Then she picks up a thermal detonator, "And it looks like we might have our distraction right here, right? Or at least a goodbye kiss-off. If Utinni here can rig this to blow, but on some kinda delay, when it goes off, one of us snatches the credits from our man — who we know is feeling the heat — and we make a run for it."

"Once Zenna scoops us up, we live happily ever, packing heat and sticking it to the Man."

The droid begins another series of droidspeak, this one very long.  Almost immediately, however, the translation comes through the ship's coms.
Fill the crate with spare parts, hide the guns.  Tell the contact where we hide the crate, find out where to collect the money.  We can either leave the money and go, or the Mynock and the ewok can distract the Imperials watching the money and steal it.  They can use a dud thermal detonator.  Then we hide the weapons somewhere, go back to Tatooine and sell them to those Rebels for double what Jabba asked.  Then we give him the money to pay the debt.

“I can dig it,” Jett said. “We tell our guy to meet me and Brannexx in the woodsiest planetfall we can find, then we hand off the dummy crate while X2 is messing with clear comms. Hex riggs up either a decoy detonator to scare him, or one on delay — can you do both in time? —  for the distraction. And depending on who’s carrying the credits, either I or Jubjub — who’d be so deep in his element even we wouldn’t be able to see him — will grab the credits and we make a dash for the hoversled to the ship — which Zee will have ready to make our getaway! If all goes well, we’ll have the credits to send Jabba’s way, then we turn around and sell the weapons! Bang-bang, it’s double the take!”

Jett put her hands on her hips, and almost grinning now. “This could work.”

OOC: Seems like a good amalgam of the plans. I’m up for this, if you guys are. Also, lol “the Mynock.”

With JubJub having so quickly located a suitable box in the next cargo bay over, Jett decides to devote her search time to finding items of similar size and weight – and precious little value — to fill the crate with.

And if X2 was keeping one of the ISB-issue hold-out blasters, Jett certainly was too. Grabbing a power pack from the initial discovery and loading it, Jett stashes the second pistol in the back of her waistband. Now where would be best for her to convince their contact to meet?

Searching the nearby planets you find 3 suitable areas:

1. An abandoned factory area where you can place your ship inside an abandoned factory but it is also most accessible by ships on the planet talus.

2. A polluted swamp region where you will need to park your ship well away from the meeting site but no ships could approach and land they like you would need to come in in ground vehicles. Located on the planet Tralus.

3. A forested area of correllia with wooded areas to hide your ship within a short distance from the site and room for them to land nearby but little access from the Sky.

Jett folded her arms in response to Brannex's plan, but directed her answer to everyone, "The difference is this way we set *them* up. Look, I hate to pin it on our late captain, but hey, if Agent Badguy needs an explanation, well, let's say our contact and the Cap were old buddies. As far as I know *he* planned this hand-off with Gregorious that the Cap kept mum about. And in our business, it's supposed to be no questions asked, right? And look out, spoilers, but I think we try to palm the creds on the sly first, and only pull a smash-and-grab and make a break for it, *if* the poodoo hits the fan."

Then, after reviewing the planetside options available, Jett said, "Either the abandoned factory space on Talus or the forests of Corellia. In the woods, we can at least be a little more cloak and dagger — but if there's little skybound access, I can see that getting real messy real fast, especially if we need to make a quick getaway. Abandoned factory's wide open to air traffic though, so... I guess it's pick your poison for escape route?"

"What do we like better and what'll get us less... dead? Weaving through waves of TIEs, or squeezing our bird through treetops. I could go either way."

The translation comes through the coms again.
I think the swamp may be the best option.  No one can brings a ship in, and we can lose pursuit through the trees.  If we camouflage the ship, maybe even sink it into the water somewhere, we can hide out for awhile until the heat is gone.

But if we give them a box of the captain's old clothes and whatever other junk we have, I can convince 'em it's on our client and that he pulled a swap. If I can't, well, that's where Jubjub and his nimble paws come in. If he can't snag those credits then? Then we go in guns blazing.

Before Jett can run off to meet the cretin that set you all up Zenna grabs her shoulder and with a sly smile says,

“Wait Jett! Remember he’s wired, and we’re probably under surveillance. Play innocent with him for now. Like we don’t know him or his cargo. Tell him to pissoff if he asks about anything illicit, act as though we don’t have anything to do with that shit. Play it cool, like ice cold.

We’ll get Jubs to follow him when he leaves. Then you and Brannexx can arrange your own meeting in a dark corridor. Cover up, so he won’t recognise you. When you do talk to him, if he asks about the hardluck, just say it was a decoy to throw the imps off the scent.

That way the hardluck stays clean and we can still arrange the ambu.. I mean a meeting.”

She then turns to the ewok.

“Jubs, when he leaves you follow him ok. Keep in contact via comlink, we need to know where he is. I am sure  Jett and Brannexx here are looking forward to a one on one meeting with this guy.”

She stops as though she remembers something and turns to Brannexx.

“And when you catch up with this guy, Brannexx. You may want to “accidentally” let it slip that your imperial contact gave you a heads up on the bust, thus the decoy. If we are convincing enough that special dick will think that there is a mole in his department. He won’t bring in as many troops to the party, because he won’t know who to trust. That may even the odds a little and make them more missable..Ya know what i’m saying?”
