The Reforged Realm: The First Days
The End came and went, but the End was also the source of beginnings. This new realm was one such place. Spotaneously born as surviving gods encountered one another, this realm is a place of tower trees, thick hills of ferns and babbling brooks running between mossy rocks. Below the thick canopy a great many animals prowl, fly and slink. This place was given shape by the vision of the gods who beheld it, and the hard ridges that can occasionally be found are testament to the differing vision some had from the rest. And most of all, this realm was small, especially so when one realized how full it was. Because the topography of this new world was one of its least interesting factors.

No, what was interesting were the wildly different people who called this place home.

There was the Noctem. Not truly immortal, these beings are as close as it comes. They age slowly, they are hardy, they are intelligent. If it were not for the fact they bred so very slowly they might be natural rulers of the world, but where other species measure themselves by the thousands, this people is in the dozens, every death in their numbers is a deep blow. They breed as quickly as they live, which is to say, hardly at all.
Traits: Timeless, Few, Prideful Respect
Leader: Decisive
Temporary States: Hostile to Imps, Tradition of the Stag Hunt, Hidarugami servitors, developing agriculture

And the hungry Hidarugami. The smallest people, they could leap and climb and sneak in ways that would seem impossible to other peoples. Walls might as well be ladders to them. They were also ravenous, they can easily eat twice their weight a day and will generally eat far more than they need to sustain themselves.
Traits: Nimble, Glutenous, Militant Survivalists
Leader: Decisive
Temporary States: Expansive Territory (Strong), High Regard for Abethur, Split Factions, developing agriculture

The tricksy and troublesome Imps. Smaller than most of the other races, this people loves games and pranks. They see no as a challenge rather than a dictate. Their pranks can go too far, but often stop short due to their lack of follow through, they loathe doing too much work.
Traits: Mischievous, lazy
Leader: Decisive
Temporary States: Emboldened, Relocated to Grasslands, taming snakes

Companion Race: Cherubs - Chubby winged creatures had a permanent worried expression in their faces, which reflected perfectly their endless task of doing their best to keep the imps in check. When Neru introduced them to the village, each imp was assigned a cherub to act as both their jiminy cricket and their unwilling partner in crime. The Implord was not an exception, and the cherub assigned to him was denominated The Cherubin by Neru.

And the ever more plentiful Anaxi. A uniform species, other outside their race have trouble telling one from another, it doesn't help that they also reproduce quickly leading short and energetic lives, but despite their fleeting natures these creatures remember grievances and hold onto them fiercely, passing them down from one generation to the next making alliances and friendships a trying matter.
Traits: Abundant, Petty, Curious Pragmatists
Leader: Curious
Temporary States: Unrest, Depleted Numbers, Tradition of the Stag Hunt, developing alchemy

Rhidas the Hunter - Anaxi hunter who successfully hunted the White Stag, an expert tracker and woodsmen.

And finally the always unique Patch People. This race is wise where others are cunning. They find answers by watching the world around them, they often come to the most efficient answer in this way, but this analytical nature also makes them slow to adapt to situations or engage with new ideas.
Traits: Intuitive, Indecisive
Leader: Diplomatic
Temporary States: Malnourished, High Regard for Abethur, Dying

In these early days the five races are each huddled together in their own camps. Newborns, they're only just discovering how to interact with themselves and, more importantly, each other. Because this Reforged Realm was small, any choice one tribe made would impact another of the peoples. The coming days were going to be chaotic and messy.

Features of the Reforged Realm

Eastern Realm: The Golden Fields
Gentle rolling hills appear covered in golden fields of grass. When winds blow across the land the seems to transform into a sea as rippling waves run through the tall grasses. Crumbling ruins seem to rise up out of these rolling waves like gray ships on the horizon, the presence of these tired monoliths testament to the history hidden in this idyllic setting.
Status: Untamed

Bushel Berries: The branches thickened and the leaves widened. The shoots doubled and the number of berries this bush would produce doubled. These bright blue berries were sweet with a hard pit, more evolved than the surrounding bushes in time animals devouring them would excrete these plentiful seeds. In a generation these newly shaped bushes would be plentiful. They would come to be called bushel berries.

Tower Twelve: A realm folded into a realm. This was once a news studio, the cameras, lights and sound equipment all remains waiting to be used, but now it's imbued with even greater range. Whatever message is delivered from this studio will be received by the intended party regardless of where they are (though the message will take a form suitable to the environment which may cause some errors in transmission.)

---------

The single entrance to the Reforged Realm is a twisted oak archway that sits in a secluded glade. Here the gods may come and go. For the time being only they can traverse this doorway, the peoples of the Reforged Realm are contained.

OOC: This thread will be used events as they arise. Hold off on posting here for the moment!

The Reforged Realm: The First Days
Crisis Point

In these first few days with the fledgling races still getting their bearings an important moment has come to a crossroads. A conflict has arisen between the Patch People and Hidarugami!

In these early days most of the newborn races have been dedicating themselves to sustaining themselves. Each of them have succeeded, but the issue arisen here is that the Patch People found themselves born near the Hidarugami and that small nimble people are ravenous. One of them will strip an entire bush of its berries, they'll eat every grub from under a rock or chase all the fish up river, their appetites are rarely sated. Which is hardly a problem for them!

But contrast that to the Patch People. Thoughtful, contemplative, indecisive. They've come up with efficient ideas for gathering their food, fashioning some of the first nets in fact in order to catch fish. But taking so long to decide on a course of action by the time they do they often arrive to find the area already stripped of sustenance and Hidarugami snoring nearby if they managed to eat their fill or already charging off to gorge on the next source of food.

This contest for sustenance is quickly becoming untenable. Patch People are beginning to starve. They've turned their contemplative natures to solving the task, coming up with a number of solution ranging from leaving the area, throwing rocks at Hidarugami or even trying to eat the smaller people. One of their more outspoken members has tried to reason with the ravenous people, but with no luck.

The problem requires outside intervention. Regardless of what choice is made, both parties won't end up happy. With limited space and the endless Hidarugami appetite, it's a matter who will end up unhappy, not if someone will.

Resolution: 3/24/20

Note: If a decision isn't reached by the gods then the mortals than a solution will be reached. But wouldn't you rather have a say then just hope it works out?

Abethur gathered around the conflicting mortals, sure in the fact that his own curious peoples would be near at hand. He was more interested in seeing the resolution of the situation over giving his own input. Instead he turned to the Anaxi that would likely be observing and queried them.

"If you were in the position of either of these mortal races. What would your response be?"

Before leaving the realm Abethur asked a few of the Anaxi how they would handle the situation that was at hand. After explaining it each would quietly ponder for a few minutes, then each of them came largely to the same conclusion. "If someone is taking all your food you should hit them with sticks, or if someone is trying to keep you from having food you should also hit them with sticks. Because then they're your enemy, isn't that what you said? An enemy is someone who tries to hurt you, and being hungry hurts." While some of the wording varied, the Anaxi were united in their strong stance as pro-fed. Thankfully for the time being the question was purely hypothetical, at least for them, for the Patch People and the Hidarugami the question was quite pressing indeed.

Note: The conflict between the two peoples is looking like it will naturally resolve itself this evening.

Abethur nodded sagely as his people spoke.

"Yes that is the obvious answer. Food is a imperative for survival. Anything that would limit an imperative should be removed. Of course there is always the unconventional approach to things. The experimental course of action; should you find the power and means to pursue it."

With that Abethur walked over to one of the bushes in question and laid his hand upon it. He suffused the bush with his morphic power, watching as it coalesced and interested to see what might arise from it.

Abethur uses his trademark ability.

The tensions continue to mount as food becomes increasingly scarce in the region the two peoples share. The Patch People come up with several good ideas, thoughts of catching birds, digging up roots and other novel sources of food, but the problem is that once the Hidarugami observe the Patch People uncovering these new sources of nourishment they unfailingly take advantage of it themselves and the problem of food scarcity continues. The Patch People, being far less nimble, are at a distinct disadvantage. Finally, their bellies tight with hunger and several of them falling ill from weakness and malnourishment, the Patch People decide that the best option is simply to leave the area and they surrender their birth grounds to the appetites' of the Hidarugami.

This is a welcome development to the hungry Hidarugami who make themselves at home in the newly vacated areas.

The Patch People meanwhile have moved closer to the Anaxi. For now this new proximity is of no concern, the Deep Woods has plentiful food barring voracious appetites, but will no doubt force interactions in the times to come.

The Reforged Realm: The First Days
In a distant world a god stomped their tiny foot and an entire realm quaked (A small one, but a realm nonetheless) A building of stone and steel crumbled into the ground in a great cloud of dust. Meanwhile in the Reforged Realm the land shook and a great billow dust blew through the trees, behind it a building collapsed... upwards? It was like a building destroying itself in reverse, concrete chunks flew up and joined together, the cracks fading to form a complete whole. For long minutes the earth trembled, when it finally ceased a building stood where none had moments ago.

The tower was a jarring thing compared to the otherwise untouched wilderness surrounding it. It's peak reached the top of the leafy canopy overhead and its glittering windows caught the shadowy light that came through the canopy. Something new had arrived in the Reforged Realm.

The Reforged Realm: The First Days
Crisis Point

In another corner of the Reforged Realm, another problem had arisen. This time between the Imps and the Noctem.

It started innocently enough. One of the Noctem was gathering food on the edges of their village. On the edge of a slope she'd collected a number of ripe berries and was in luck for she'd just found another. She was so focused on her tasks he didn't notice the pair of imps that had come cavorting into that part of the Wood. The duo were bored, a very dangerous thing for an Imp to be, and when they spotted the lone Noctem and the way she precariously balanced to collect her berries an idea came to mind. Sneaking forward the Imps crept closer and closer till they were just behind the scavenging Noctem. Then with a barely contained giggle, they pushed her. With a great cry she went tumbling head over heels and down the hill with just a small moment to spot the pair of grinning assailants, her berries thrown all about the grass much to the delight of the pair of Imps who happily claimed them.

Unbeknownst to the mischievous pair of Imps, the Noctem had tumbled far down the hill and come to serious harm. Dashed upon a tree root she was knocked unconscious and didn't wake till hours later. In the dead of night she found she could not stand, something had happened to her leg, she did not dare cry out, in the dark of the night that was only an invitation to the hungry predators, so she waited through the long night till morning, then her fellow Noctem found her and her mangled leg. Twisted and broken and given a night to set, it was permanently ruined. She would never use that leg again. She shared her story and the other Noctem knew rage!

Now the Noctem currently discuss a plan of retribution. They intend to go and maim the legs of two dozen Imps in order to see that justice is meted out. And they are capable of executing their plan as they are far more physically capable than the Imps. Now it is only a matter of how this conflict, started by innocent mischief, will be resolved. No answer will appease all parties, but an answer must still be decided.

Resolution: 3/28/20

OOC: If an god hasn't intervened and decided how to resolve this dispute the mortals will solve it themselves by the resolution date.

Being aware of the conflict, Neru made his way into the Reforged Realm, and towards his territory. He wasn't upset at the imps, really, despite the problems they had caused. They didn't mean it after all. Once there, he gathered all his little mortals, and sat them for an explanation on what happened.

"Listen, you guys made the Noctem really upset. When you pushed the one down the cliff, which, I'll concede, was a pretty funny idea, you accidentally maimed it forever. Now, I'm sure you didn't mean to do that, but if we don't want them to have come break your legs in retribution, we'll need to offer a solution. SO! Here is what we will do..."

Neru then proceeded to explain his solution to the imps. They couldn't fix the leg of the Noctem gatherer, but they could provide the food that they won't be able to gather because of the injury. So, until that particular Noctem healed, the imps will provide rations for the Noctem tribe, in an amount that it would reflect what the injured Noctem could have collected. These berries and other foodstuff they would place in a basket, that they will set up outside the village where the imps spent most of their free time (which was most of their time).

Nox was also aware of the conflict, and waited a bit to see how it played out. However, he decided to step onto the scene when Neru made an appearance.

"My good Neru. What happened isn't good. And honestly, I'm of the mind that the imps need to be made a swift example of." he said firmly, his face unreadable. How he was truly feeling about the matter was hidden behind his usual poker face.

"However, if you are willing to discuss alternatives, then bringing a basket of berries to the village is hardly enough. That young woman will be maimed and lame for the rest of her very, very long life. And her single life is worth that of many of the imps." he said.

"So I will only be satisfied if you not only use your shrine to heal the wound to the young lady's leg, but to allow her to break a leg on each of the two imps that caused this. In public view where the other imps and Noctem can see it. You are free to cure those imps' wounds too afterward, but I do demand that they go through the same pain that young lady did. It is the only way they will truly learn, and by doing it publicly the message will be sent that the Noctem will not take crap from anyone." he continued.

He shrugged.

"At least this way no one has to die, especially the imps. Otherwise I'm of the mind to let them exact their justice. Do you accept these terms?"

Neru didn't take a second to think of the answer, before spitting it right back at Nox's face.

"No. Also, you seem to have misunderstood what my orders to my imps were. They are not taking the basket to your tribe, they are leaving it at the edge of their own town, so your people can easily collect it. Also, my imps lives are way more valuable than your noctem's to me. They are mine, after all."

"Though, I suppose I would be fine with healing your noctem. I'm not entirely certain if the wounds will be gone permanently, or only as long as she remains within my part of the realm. Either way, trying won't hurt... probably. Ok, maybe it will, but we can do it anyway."

Having seen the matter between his fellow gods people in his mind's eye he sought them out, no doubt being followed by a delegation of the Anaxi. They observed the exchange as they had with the previous one. This situation, however, seemed to have warranted divine attention.

Abethur was curious himself to see how things would resolve themselves and thought it would be a good learning exercise for the Anaxi on the nature of crime and punishment. What was deemed fair retribution and what was considered simple vengeance.

Nox considered.

"Fine - I want a basket of berries as an apology, and for you to try and heal the woman." he replied.

"In exchange, I won't have their legs broken. And if the healing fails...well, then I'll leave the Noctem to dispense proper justice. They will either learn repentance or learn fear, and I'm fine with either but would prefer the former I suppose. So let's hope this healing works." he said firmly.

Crisis Point

So Neru and Nox were decided. Neru would command the Imps to leave an offering of berries at the outskirts of their village each day for the Noctem. Nox would dissuade the Noctem from exacting revenge on the Imps:

Imps: Decisive Leader Complication - That all sounded well and good, at least until Neru came to the Imps and said as much. "Every day?" The leader asked in horror. "That's so much work! A week of berries would be much more reasonable. Accidents happen after all!" The other imps nodded. They had each suffered bruises and scrapes from the pranks they played on one another. "Those Noctem just need to be quicker and learn to take a joke!"

Noctem: Decisive Leader Complication - Nox went to the Noctem and told them of the agreement he'd reached with Neru and there was a long silence before finally the Dark Archon spoke up. "But what of next time? Will the Imps remember in ten years, five years, a single year? They wrong their betters, harming a single Noctem is like harming two dozen of them, they won't understand that unless we make them experience it first hand."

Nox looked amused at the Noctem Leader who questioned his decision.

"I did not make you all so that you would be angry barbarians lashing out at every little slight. You are better than that. Restraint is a part of strength. But no not mistake that for weakness though. There's a difference between restraint and being weak, and I hope I can teach you this today." he replied.

"In this case, the point was made that they messed up, and had to make amends. And they are both going to heal that poor woman, but also will leave offerings of berries as repentance. It is important, young one, that you give your lessers a chance to repent their mistakes first so that they may learn the error of their ways. And if they persist in their transgressions? Then by all means exact a more harsh justice on them. I'm not saying to tolerate their acting against you. I'm simply saying that as their betters you need to hold yourself to a higher standard of righteous anger. Give them one chance. But not two. If it happens again, feel free to break two dozen of their legs with my blessing and teach them to fear the consequences. But always after a single second chance. That is what will make you not only physically superior to them, but socially as well."" he said tersely.

"But you should always act with honor towards your lessers. Give them a chance to right their wrongs. That doesn't mean to let it go unanswered - on the contrary, you should always hold an offender accountable. And if they don't learn from their second chance...then don't give them a third."

Neru frowned at the leader of the imps. He didn't like to be contradicted, specially by a smartass. "Well, maybe you shouldn't have broken her leg. Also, I said it clearly, it's every day until her legs are fixed. So when that happens, you don't have to do it anymore. Fair is fair. If she can't collect the berries herself, then those that broke her legs oughta do it. Besides, it's not extra work. You are already gathering berries for yourselves. Also, I'm planning to create siblings for you all, so you have more people to help with all the un-fun stuff. Of course, if you are set in not gathering a few extra berries every day, I can give you over to the noctem. I'm sure they will be less kind than me.

Chastizing the outspoken leaders of both their peoples, Neru and Nox pushed ahead with their plan. For the next few days the imps begrudgingly set berries out for them Noctem neighbor for the injured Noctem was helped to make her journey. The injured Noctem would be taken to the heart of the imps land where the Shrine of Neru lay. There the god was basked in something akin to his old power. With a motion the maimed Noctem was bathed in a warm light and her leg was made whole once again. Tentatively she stood up and her eyes widened as her leg was no longer pained and once again supported her weight. It was truly a miracle and it set both the Imps and the Noctem murmuring to see such a thing done.

But while old injuries could be erased, that did not undo the past. The Noctem delegation left the Imps village, their faces stoic. It did not help that there was more than a few jeers and giggles from the gathered Imps. Violence had been avoided this day, but history had been established. The Imps were left with a gleeful sense that regardless of their actions, things would work out. The Noctem were left, their attitudes none improved and with no patience left for the Imps. They were also left murmuring why it was another god had the power to heal when they were supposed to be the superior people, shouldn't their god also be superior, why then was Neru required for miracles.

Imps new temporary state: Emboldened

Noctem new temporary state: Hostile to Imps

But for now the Crisis has been resolved. New troubles would be dealt with as they arose.

The Reforged Realm: The First Days
OOC: I liked Nox's idea of a rolling update regarding changes to the Reforged Realm similar to God Game Aeon updates. So each Sunday we'll be rolling time forward. This happens regardless of the gods desires so the best they can sometimes hope is to lay projects into place and nudge them back on track if they start to veer away during the intervening years.

The Passing of Time

Time is a strange thing after the End. This is true of the greater Universe and its true of even the newborn Reforged Realm. At times the gods find time flowing like water. In these moments days, months and can years pass by before time returns to its natural rhythm. Perhaps it was due to having so many gods sharing one small parcel of land, perhaps it was just the way the cosmos worked now. Regardless, it was a fact of life and one that had to be accounted for rather than fought.

During these years mortals grew, multiplied learned, aged and some even died (save for the Noctem. Who remained as they were year in and year out.

The time ten years pass. Only a blip really on the scale of things, but long enough that these mortals have started to get their bearings. They've learned what plants are good to what and what is not, what animals are meals and which can turn them into meals. They different tribes have each settled into more permanent routines. The best example of this being the Anaxi who have shown a preference to the ridge hills where they like to hollow out burrows, perhaps showing their similar tastes to Abethur whose will added those rocky outcroppings. Their homes, built into these crags, are some of the most secure and predators are nary a concern. The Patch People are a constant shadow of the Anaxi tribe, due to necessity rather than any strong fondness between the two.

Necessity dictated by the fact that Hidarugami control the largest swathe of the Reforged Realm. Their long strip of forest neatly divides the realm in two so the Imps and Noctem remain on one side and the Anaxi and the Patch People on the other while the hungry Hidarugami roam between them. The small hungry people have become more aggressive under the fierce direction of Seris, they manage to not eat their land barren, but only barely. As such they aggressively approach any other tribe who dares enter their land. Over those intervening years at least a few members of each tribe have died for testing these boundaries. (Save for the Noctem, but even a few of them have come away with scars.) The Hidarugami continue to spurn settlements or stone weapons, instead foraging or hunting with their hands as Seris had commanded.

On the far side of the Realm (As far as one can get in a place so small) the Imps and the Noctem hold a tenuous peace maintained primarily through avoidance. The Imps, with their Cherubs created shortly before the flow of time sped up, have settled into a happy routine of foraging their favorite berry groves, catching the occasional bird of rabbit for food, and mainly spending their days in game and song. They have a greater number of stories and games than all the other tribes put together. The Noctem meanwhile keep far distant of the Imps and encourage the Imps to do the same, often greeting the troublesome race with a well thrown rock (Though this at times backfires when Imp children creep close to see who can avoid being hit the longest) The Noctem have been carefully cataloguing their world, they've come up with names for each plant in their region and examined their rates of growth. Their culture of superiority has also developed in a number of challenges, their preferred form of confrontation is challenging tribe members to games of speed, or skill, or wit.

So while their lives have grown more refined and found a routine, overall little has changed during this flow of time. Mortals are much like how the gods last saw them, only the mortals are a little wiser to the world and more populous. It won't be long before these greater numbers start to see friction between the peoples.

The Reforged Realm: The First Days
Crisis Point

On the far edge of the Realm life has been relatively quiet. That made it all the more mystifying to the residents there when sickness started to spread. First there were a handful of Patch People, then Hidarugami, then the Anaxi. Each of these separate people kept largely to themselves as initially they were unaware that others were similarly afflicted. Fevers, chills, violent nausea, those stricken started to waste away. Travel in the Realm was still relatively uncommon at this point so it was only carried by the occasional adventurous soul, thus it took weeks before news spread widely of the blight. When finally comparisons were made between the tribes it became clear that the source was the river each of them used for water, but by then it was too late, the contamination (a carcass left to rot) was gone, but the illness was firmly rooted and it proved contagious once it was caught.

Thankfully, there was a cure. An uncommon flower found in the hills that the Anaxi settled could cure the sickness if it was chewed. Even better news, there was enough for all the Anaxi to benefit from the cure. While this was wonderful news for the Anaxi, it was not an answer for the Patch People and Hidarugami. There was no other source of the medicine and it would take all of the Anaxi's supply to cure their own people. That meant any cure given to a different tribe member meant an Anaxi died. And if so many Hidarugami died they would not have the numbers to maintain influence over the lands they'd obtained from pushing out the Patch People.

As it stood now, without a cure half the Hidarugami and Patch People would die if left untreated. With a finite supply of cure, mortals were going to die regardless of what decisions were made. It was simply up to the gods who those mortals might be.
